Boasting a remarkably fluid style of play, strength and power in addition to wonderful technique, few sides can halt the Bavarian giants led by Robert Lewandowski upfront, and coached by arguably the best tactician, Pep Guardiola. Tactically versatile and overwhelmingly technical, the many injuries the German giants have suffered have done little to hinder a side with so much squad depth. With Kingsley Coman's pace, Arturo Vidal's strength, Douglas Costa's brilliance and Philipp Lahm's leadership, it is difficult to not feel a slight twinge of pain if you support the men in black and white. Arsene Wenger did extraordinarily well at the Emirates where he asked his players to spread play as soon as they won back possession, attacking quickly and playing in between the lines to overwhelm an opponent that had little time to reorganise themselves at the back. Gladbach, unlike all the others in the Bundesliga, showed courage and played with confidence against Bayern. One interesting thing to note in that win was that for the first time in their season, the Foals opted to play a 3-5-2 formation -- a shape that worked wonders despite their little relative inexperience with it, and a shape Juventus have mastered. With five men in midfield working extremely hard to overcome Bayern's tough pressing game, Schubert's men gave themselves a chance at creating, taking advantage of Bayern's indiscipline and their inability to get back into the game once they fell behind. A side that rarely faces Bundesliga opponents without a defeatist attitude, Bayern are perhaps not the most defensively organised team. As the Foals demonstrated, Guardiola's defenders can easily be dragged out of position in rather unrecognisable fashion, conceding goals that could very well have been stopped. In many ways, this is a side that perhaps need to suffer a little more before they can really be an unstoppable force in Europe -- to learn how to overcome obstacles thrown their way by opponents willing to put them to the test. Unaccustomed to falling behind, the Bavarians have shown themselves to be a little psychologically fragile. The shock of not dominating a game this season has proved so distressing that they have failed to get back into the game, ceding confidence and eventually all control and discipline. The problem is, whatever fragilities the Germans do have may be exposed when they play away from home. But in the Allianz Arena, they are too formidable to terrorise. The question then becomes, how far have Juve really grown? These are the matches Juventus must play and win if they are to be recognised as a major European power once again. While they boast talent, organisation and experience in Europe, they are not quite at the level they once were in the mid 90's, yet that doesn't mean the Old Lady should be underestimated. Allegri's men come alive in the matches people assume they will lose and perhaps, in this case, sheer desire and intellect will be enough to overcome the toughest of challenges.

Defensively solid and improving offensively, it's difficult to believe that less than two months ago, this was a team languishing in 12th place, 11 points behind Roma. Today it is the Giallorossi who find themselves behind the Old Lady. While the Bianconeri have played admirably well in recent weeks, managing exciting wins against the likes of Milan and more, what was most impressive about this particular win against the Viola was the maturity -- that understanding of how to go up a gear and suffer for the win. Every ball fought for, hope was never lost and attempts at goal always made even if Paulo Sousa's men dominated possession. The runs were more incisive, the desire more visible, it took Juve only three minutes to restore parity after conceding a penalty in the second minute of the game. The curse of the ex is a very real thing in this wonderful game and while Juve suffered from Fernando Llorente's goal for Sevilla midweek in the Champions League, their own Juan Cuadrado did enough to equalise against his old side, albeit it accidentally. Leonardo Bonucci, 7 -- Made some vital challenges even if he's always capable of a mistake or two. Seemed overwhelmed initially, he eventually took control and played confidently. Giorgio Chiellini, 6 -- The Italy international fouled Federico Bernardeschi to concede the penalty. Chiellini can always be brash and clumsy but he pushed forward well on occasion and quickly recovered his stability. Juan Cuadrado, 7 -- One of his better games. Not yet perfectly disciplined, he was better defensively while his goal was magical even if it was accidental. This is still not his best position but who can argue with a goal and an assist. Paul Pogba, 6 -- A mediocre performance by a player destined for stardom, he must learn the basics well before he produces the complicated. Far too emotional, when he surrenders to frustration, he irritates. Patrice Evra, 7 -- Injuries or not, Evra is a machine that is always ready to produce. Great understanding with Paul Pogba, he illuminates the left wing. Mario Mandzukic, 8 -- No one can ever accuse the Croatian of not leaving it all out there on the pitch, a predator, he exploits every mistake and scored the second in true Mandzukic fashion. However, what is most impressive about the forward is how much he works for the team. Acting as the team's first line of defence, he manages to make something happen even when under great pressure. Paulo Dybala, 8 -- His technical skill beautifully compliments Mandzukic's tough work. Intelligent, he has greatly improved his understanding of the role he plays and how to play for the team. His finishing could be better but what a talent, what a goal. Substitutes Stefano Sturaro, 7 -- Came on and offered more energy to the midfield to compliment the others alongside him. Not exactly how you draw up a start in a game that had quite a bit of anticipation attached to it. So what did Juve do? Came right back and hit 'em in the mouth. Juan Cuadrado made the Ex Effect work in Juventus' favor for once to tie it just three minutes, then late-second-half goals from Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala allowed Juve to grab the three points and leapfrog yet another team, Roma, in the Serie A standings. Think about it, facing adversity right off the bat and having to try to come out of it almost instantaneously. Random thoughts and observations As much as I want Álvaro Morata to play, it's pretty hard to say he deserves minutes over Mandzukic right now. His game might not be the most glamorous, he might not always be a constant nuisance to the opposing defense like Dybala, but he's doing what he was signed to do — score goals and lead the line. Speaking of Dybala, he's so good. Have I mentioned that the €40 million price tag is looking more and more worth it these days? Because I feel like I have, but I won't get tired of saying it as we see the baby-faced Argentine continue to shred opposing defenses apart. And how about that pass from Pogba on Mandzukic's go-ahead goal? Good lord that boy's good. I won't lie, I raised an eyebrow when I saw that Juan Cuadrado was in the starting lineup at right wingback instead of Stephan Lichtsteiner. And whether or not his game-tying goal was really meant to be a header on goal, he produced and made Max Allegri's decision look like the right one. He may be a frustrating player a good amount of the time, but Cuadrado played a big role in Sunday's win. And this is from somebody who gets frustrated with Cuadrado a good amount of the time. Fiorentina had nearly 62 percent of the total possession yet only had six shots. Their only shot on goal was their goal in the third minute. After that, Juventus' defense — which seems to be getting better by the game these days — absolutely locked things down. Gigi Buffon just stealing checks again. That's what happens when you don't have to make a single save. Claudio Marchisio made 41 passes against Fiorentina. He completed 41 passes against Fiorentina. Last time I checked, that's a perfect 100 pass accuracy percentage. Juventus now sits two points behind both Fiorentina and Napoli for third place. What are the odds that Juve, who plays Carpi next weekend to close out the calendar year, can close the season in one of the three Champions League spots? Napoli's hit a little rough patch, Fiorentina is obviously coming off a big loss to Juventus, and our boys are playing a Carpi side that has won just twice in 16 games this season.
