Juventus set to pursue €444 million damages claim over Calciopoli There are doubts over the impartiality of those who carried out the investigation into the actions of former Bianconeri general director Luciano Moggi. Feb 8, 2012 Juventus look set to follow through on their threat to launch a €444 million lawsuit against the Italian Football Association (FIGC). The Bianconeri have been emboldened in their pursuit of damages by the publication of a 561-page report on the investigation into the Calciopoli scandal which first came to light in 2006 and ultimately resulted in former Juve general director Luciano Moggi sentenced to five years and four months in prison. The impartiality of those who constructed the case against Moggi has been called into question by the document, while doubt has also been cast over the conduct of prosecutors and judges involved in the legal proceedings. In addition, the report has, according to La Stampa, strengthened Juve's belief that a clear line should be drawn between the actions of Moggi and those of the club. The Bianconeri, who were stripped of two Serie A titles and demoted to Serie B for their involvement in the ‘sporting fraud’, are now set to hit the FIGC with a massive claim for damages which could bring down the governing body. Moggi, who was also banned from football for life because of the scandal, has always protested his innocence of the charges brought against him.

Approaching his 36th birthday, the Dutchman is increasingly taking on the look of a weathered veteran, but there remains a good reason as to why Massimiliano Allegri has often opted to use the Dutchman in his bigger games as Milan coach. The four-time Champions League winner has the kind of vision and ability the Rossoneri last had in opposite number Andrea Pirlo, and with the No.21 likely to be a vital part of the visitors’ side once again tonight, Seedorf could prove similarly important to the Diavolo if starting in the trequartista spot. DON'T BE AFRAID TO HIT IBRA There is often a negativity pinned to the tactic of playing long balls into channels for a big forward in modern football, but in Ibrahimovic, Milan have one of the best. The ball regularly sticks to Ibra in a way other target men just can’t manage, making him the perfect option when pressure needs to be released. Against Juventus, this will be no different, with Antonio Conte’s philosophy of a high pressing game having resulted in a huge territorial advantage at times this term. So if Juve exercise a similar stranglehold on the game at San Siro, it will be important for Milan to use their greatest tool to release the pressure and set a high base to bring their livelier forwards into the game. BEWARE OF THE OLD GUARD For all of their youth, for all of their energy and dynamism, Juventus’ key men are Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro Del Piero. Pirlo’s effect has been widely hailed all season, while Del Piero’s impact has been evident on a couple of occasions recently. From his magnificent goal against Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-final to the lack of threat in his absence against Siena on Sunday, there have been enough examples to show that he still holds an important position in the Juve ranks. Milan are lucky that they have one of the world’s best centre-backs in Thiago Silva, and will also need Mark van Bommel at the top of his game to ensure that Pirlo is not afforded the space from which he could weave his magic.

Feb 8, 2012 AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is eagerly anticipating the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie with Juventus at San Siro this Wednesday evening. The Rossoneri have not won the Italian cup since 2002-03, and Allegri is desperate to guide the Serie A champions to Coppa glory this term. "The fact that Juve still haven’t lost after 20 Serie A fixtures means that they have a lot of quality," Allegri said in a press conference. "Juventus have character, all their players show desire and this is the first prerogative to win something important. "It will be important for us to win or at least do well to not compromise our way through to the final. We want to go all the way in the Coppa Italia." Allegri then went on to say that Milan are not in crisis, despite their relatively poor form after the winter break.
