  2. Italian Football Is Dead - Luciano Moggi Moggi has relaunched his attack on the FIGC... Jul 16, 2010 Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi has accused FIGC president Giancarlo Abete of "killing Italian football" as he launches a sharp sting on the powers that be. His attack follows on from Inter striker Mario Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola, who claimed Abete should resign from his post at the helm of the Calcio tree. He even claimed Balotelli would boycott Serie A because of measures Abete introduced which limits foreign transfers. And Moggi has taken his argument even deeper in his Tuttomercatoweb.com comment column. "Shooting at Abete now would be like taking the last brick away from a house that has fallen," Moggi blasted. "Italian football is rebelling against absurd decisions from one man that is slowly killing our football. "Euro 2012, Euro 2016, Sepp Blatter that gives the World Cup presentation to Vieira, Donadoni's flop at the Euro 2008, failure in South Africa. Is that not enough? No. "We also had to add the fact that we changed coach of the national team while one was still in position. These were suicidal and illogical strategies. "Italian football has had enough of Abete, not me who is in the past, but the football league and its 20 presidents. Someone please save us."

  4. Buffon Tells Juventus To Sign Edin Dzeko Gianluigi Buffon drops Dzeko hint as club gets to work on signing the Bosnian from Wolfsburg Jul 12, 2010 Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is pushing the club to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko as negotiations resume over a possible transfer. Dzeko, who is also being courted by Manchester City, is said to want Juventus, and Italian director Giuseppe Marotta is expected to meet German counterpart Dieter Hoeness to get talks back up to boiling point. And Buffon hopes the move boils over and transforms into a solid deal. "Dzeko is a player who does not need any introduction," Buffon told Sky Sport Italia. "I think he is among the top five strikers in Europe now and he has been for at least two years. He would surely be a great buy." Injured Buffon, who is recuperating after his recent back operation, feels rapid progress is being made under coach Luigi Del Neri. "He has always done well wherever he has been. I think he has the right qualities to stay at a club like Juventus for a very long time," he concluded.
  5. Juventus Buys Are Not Scudetto Material - Moggi Luciano Moggi not impressed with Juve transfers Jul 9, 2010 Former Juventus transfer director Luciano Moggi has become highly sceptical over the club's summer buys, claming they are not "Scudetto" players. Despite his ban from Calcio, Moggi has become a notable commentator on the wheeling and dealing, and he has analysed Juve's market thus far. His insight on Juve was grey and he feels the club have far to go before they can tackle the Scudetto issues, claiming better players need to come to the fore if Juve are to leap towards the title. "The buys that Giuseppe Marotta has made so far don't seem like they are Scudetto calibre," he wrote in his Tuttomercatoweb.com column. "Jorge Martinez for example doesn't allow them to make a significant step up in quality. "The same goes for Pepe and Storari. I think Leonardo Bonucci is the only player with prospects and he is a Juve type player. "A good signing would be Milos Krasic, but he is no Pavel Nedved."

  17. Gianluigi Buffon Sounding Optimistic After Back Surgery Juventus goalkeeper on the road to recovery after operation... Jul 5, 2010 Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has expressed his relief after having surgery to fix a spinal disc herniation. Buffon is expected to be on the sidelines for up to three months following the operation in Milan's Madonnina clinic. But he sounded optimistic as he was discharged on Monday afternoon. "I have removed a big weight. Maybe this operation should have been done before, but it's gone well and I have faith, and I am tranquil," he told the press. "I am in no rush to recover and I will take as long as it takes without risking a reccurence. "Seeing my role as a goalkeeper, I still feel I have a long career ahead of me and I can prolong it at the highest levels." National team football is the pinnacle for every player, and Buffon has gone one further after being told by Cesare Prandelli he will be captain. "For me it represents the maximum that a player can aim for and it's an honour for me," he added. "I have always had Prandelli as an opposition coach, but he is always prepared and one who always has a strong rapport with his players in which he swaps ideas with them." However, despite the success of his operation, Buffon still suffers the pain of World Cup elimination. "It's very disappointing and it was grave for a player like me to renounce such a competition," he said. "I could have given a hand to a group in difficulty, but having been eliminated so early, I don't regret not being there."
  18. Gianluigi Buffon Undergoes Surgery The 2006 World Cup winner is expected to be out of action for a few months... Jul 4, 2010 Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has undergone surgery on his back on Sunday, according to the club's official website, juventus.com. The Italy custodian only featured for 45 minutes in their dismal World Cup 2010 campaign before bring substituted in a 1-1 draw with Paraguay. It was later revealed that the player suffered a herniated disc. It was already expected that the former Parma man would need the surgery and was confirmed after another consultation by medical experts in the morning. The 32-year-old had the operation at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina that performed by a number of specialists later during the afternoon. On Monday, a diagnosis and recovery time for the player will be revealed, but early indications suggest that the shot-stopper may not return until the new year. Former Milan and Sampdoria goalkeeper Marco Storari has been brought in as his deputy.
  19. Marotta & Del Neri Promise A Winning Juventus Director and coach sound optimistic ahead of tomorrow's ritiro... Jul 2, 2010 Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta and coach Luigi Del Neri have made their pitch for next season as they work to bring steady success. The Bianconeri launched their new Nike shirts for the 2010-11 season at Vinovo, and both men are confident they can baptise the new campaign with a flourish of growth. "I hope that my Juventus is nice and a winning team, both on and off the pitch," Del Neri told the press. "We need to be ready by July 29. I will treat everyone the same because in football players can come and go." And Del Neri gave an indication of how the squad will take shape. "Our attack is already complete with [David] Trezeguet, Amauri, [Vincenzo] Iaquinta, [Allessandro] Del Piero and Diego," he added. "We are tough in midfielder. In terms of quality we are tranquil in midfield and up front. "Marotta is working for the wings and in defence." Marotta underscored his hopes to deliver a squad with an Italian base, and he wasn't talking pizza. "We want to reinforce our Italian brand through serious politics on youth players, and as well as this the team wants to win instantly," said the director. "I am optimistic for the contruction of the new team. We want to make it stronger, but respecting club guidelines."
  20. Real Madrid Eye Giorgio Chiellini Italian international on Madrid's radar... Jul 2, 2010 Spainish giants Real Madrid are considering a move for Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini, according to Leggo. Jose Mourinho wants Chiellini in Madrid knowing he will offer a reliable guarantee of strength. Real Madrid are desperate to break their Champions League hoodoo and they are working on building a squad that will ensure success. Chiellini is currently in talks with Juventus over a better deal. His agent Davide Lippi is pushing for a wage packet that matches the top earners at the club. Negotiations between Lippi and Giuseppe Marotta continue, but if they breakdown then Chiellini could leave for a club that will offer him top money. Manchester United had recently been linked with the Italian, but Lippi said "no concrete" offer had arrived.
