Gianluigi Buffon Sounding Optimistic After Back Surgery Juventus goalkeeper on the road to recovery after operation... Jul 5, 2010 Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has expressed his relief after having surgery to fix a spinal disc herniation. Buffon is expected to be on the sidelines for up to three months following the operation in Milan's Madonnina clinic. But he sounded optimistic as he was discharged on Monday afternoon. "I have removed a big weight. Maybe this operation should have been done before, but it's gone well and I have faith, and I am tranquil," he told the press. "I am in no rush to recover and I will take as long as it takes without risking a reccurence. "Seeing my role as a goalkeeper, I still feel I have a long career ahead of me and I can prolong it at the highest levels." National team football is the pinnacle for every player, and Buffon has gone one further after being told by Cesare Prandelli he will be captain. "For me it represents the maximum that a player can aim for and it's an honour for me," he added. "I have always had Prandelli as an opposition coach, but he is always prepared and one who always has a strong rapport with his players in which he swaps ideas with them." However, despite the success of his operation, Buffon still suffers the pain of World Cup elimination. "It's very disappointing and it was grave for a player like me to renounce such a competition," he said. "I could have given a hand to a group in difficulty, but having been eliminated so early, I don't regret not being there."

It was later revealed that the player suffered a herniated disc. The 32-year-old had the operation at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina that performed by a number of specialists later during the afternoon. On Monday, a diagnosis and recovery time for the player will be revealed, but early indications suggest that the shot-stopper may not return until the new year. Jul 2, 2010 Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta and coach Luigi Del Neri have made their pitch for next season as they work to bring steady success. The Bianconeri launched their new Nike shirts for the 2010-11 season at Vinovo, and both men are confident they can baptise the new campaign with a flourish of growth. "I hope that my Juventus is nice and a winning team, both on and off the pitch," Del Neri told the press. "We need to be ready by July 29. I will treat everyone the same because in football players can come and go." And Del Neri gave an indication of how the squad will take shape. "Our attack is already complete with [David] Trezeguet, Amauri, [Vincenzo] Iaquinta, [Allessandro] Del Piero and Diego," he added. "We are tough in midfielder. In terms of quality we are tranquil in midfield and up front. "Marotta is working for the wings and in defence." Marotta underscored his hopes to deliver a squad with an Italian base, and he wasn't talking pizza. "We want to reinforce our Italian brand through serious politics on youth players, and as well as this the team wants to win instantly," said the director. "I am optimistic for the contruction of the new team. We want to make it stronger, but respecting club guidelines."

Marotta Reveals Transfer Focus, Confirms Leonardo Bonucci Arrival Juventus Chief Giuseppe Marotta outlines his transfer plans... Jun 28, 2010 Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta is making transfer plans public as he works hard to build an effective side. "We are working towards having a competitive team," he told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport. "But we must not lose sight of the financial parameters. "Perhaps we lacked results last year, but the hard work continues. Juventus have the fundamentals to do well and return to winning ways." He also confirmed the deal for Leonardo Bonucci was not a simple one on the day the Bari stopper arrives in Turin for his medical. "It was not easy to convince Bari and Genoa to let us have Bonucci. We are satisfied because the defender fits the bill," he said. But signing Milos Krasic from CSKA Moscow seems unlikely after negotiations broke down. "We made our offer to CSKA Moscow and they did not accept it. Then we both went our own ways," concluded the Juve chief.

Leonardo Bonucci Cannot Wait To Begin Juventus Career Bonucci passes medical and gets ready for Juventus "adventure"... Jun 28, 2010 Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci cannot wait to start playing for his new side after passing his medical in Turin on Monday. The club have not announced the move as official; that should arrive on Tuesday. But the stopper did tell Juventus Channel and Sky Sport Italia of his delight. "It has been a strong emotion joining Juventus, but I am happy to be here to begin this new adventure with the right spirit that has also be instilled in me by the president," he said. And the first objective is to rebuild after last season's dramatic freefall. "We have to improve so Juventus can return to being on the great stages of Europe and the world. "We will work hard to improve on last year. If we win something then that will be good, if not we will continue working hard for the future." Bonucci said it was Juventus who showed the strongest interest in landing him after he returned to Bari once they bought his full rights from Genoa, before selling him onto the Old Lady. "Juventus wanted me, I wanted them. Other clubs did not come forward." He also looked back on the failed World Cup with Italy as a learning curve. "I am not disappointed having not played in the World Cup, we are disappointed for the exit though," he concluded.

Juventus Sign Leonardo Bonucci The Bari centre-back will join the Bianconeri... Jun 24, 2010 Juventus have signed Leonardo Bonucci, finalising a deal after weeks of speculation, according to Sky Sports. The player, previously co-owned by Bari and Genoa, will step into the boots of veteran Fabio Cannavaro in the centre of defence, who is set to join United Arab Emirates outfit Al-Ahli. The Bianconeri reportedly had come to an agreement with Bari yesterday and have now also reached an accord with the Grifoni for the youngster. Reports that he was on the verge of joining Juventus had gathered pace earlier on Thursday. The Turin giants have opted for Bonucci, rather than other potential options such as Palermo's Simon Kjaer. The 23-year-old had an impressive past season, playing in all 38 matches for the Galletti. He did not play in any of Italy's three World Cup matches before they were eliminated from the competition by Slovakia.

Juventus Close In On Leonardo Bonucci The Old Lady could soon tie the knot... Jun 18, 2010 Juventus are closing in on the capture of Bari and Genoa defender Leonardo Bonucci, Corriere dello Sport claims. The 23-year-old defender has attracted much desire in his homeland after an impressive season for Bari which has earned him a place with Italy for the World Cup. Juventus are desperate to bring in new defensive material and have made Bonucci, who is co-owned by Genoa and Bari, their top target to reinforce the area. Reports in Italy indicate the Old Lady will give Genoa full ownership of Domenico Criscito and Raffaele Palladino, while Bari will receive 2.5 million plus Sergio Almiron, in exchange for the services of Bonucci. The Turin-based side, who finished seventh in the league, have also been linked to defensive duo William Gallas and Rafael Marquez of Arsenal and Barcelona respectively.

Juventus & Bari Directors Meet To Discuss Bonucci The two societies have met to discuss the transfer of the Italian international... Jun 18, 2010 Juventus directors have met with Bari sporting director Guido Angelozzi to discuss the possible transfer of defender Leonardo Bonucci to the Bianconeri during the summer. The Biancorossi currently own a 50 per cent stake in the stopper, with Genoa owning the other half. In return, the Galletti want striker Michele Paolucci, but the Bianconeri will need to speak with Siena, as they have a stake in the 23-year-old, according to TMW. Bari could be also preparing to have a meeting with the Grifoni, to see whether they would be interested in selling their share in the Italian international. Bonucci is currently in South Africa, playing for the Azzurri at the World Cup.
