  1. “Juve creates little” Harsh but fair media criticism of Juventus after goaless draw Juventus played out a dull goalless draw against Empoli this evening, in a performance that won’t linger long in the memory of their players. The men in black and white struggled to connect during key moments of the play and found Empoli too well-organised to break down. ............ After the match, Calciomercato wrote: “After the one at home with Roma, Juventus collects another in Empoli. Motta’s Bianconeri provide a disappointing performance at Castellani-Computer Gross and stumble into another misstep. The goals conceded remain zero, but this time, too Juve creates little and does not break through. Vlahovic and his teammates climb to the top of the table alone but could be overtaken tomorrow by the other leaders, including Inter.” ............ 2. Thiago Motta: ‘Not the result Juventus wanted’ Thiago Motta reacted to Juventus’ goalless draw against Empoli this evening, admitting that it was not the result they had hoped for. The Bianconeri had already entered the international break following a goalless draw against AS Roma. ............ A lack of chemistry among Juventus’ top players was evident, and ultimately, they were unable to secure the win. After the game, Motta acknowledged that the result was disappointing but emphasised that his team performed well overall. He said: “We go home with a point, it’s clear that it’s not what we want, certainly the result wasn’t what we wanted before the match, but the performance of the boys was a good performance at this time and we have to continue to grow on this”. ............ 3. Juventus 0 - Empoli 0: Initial reaction and random observations Juventus dropped points for the second time in the last three years when visiting the Castellani. And as much as Empoli played well — and they really did to continue their very good start to the 2024-25 season — it’s hard not to focus on what Juventus wasn’t able to do for the second consecutive game. And that’s score a goal. with Saturday night’s trip to Tuscany resulting in a scoreless draw with Empoli. And that’s score a goal. Or really come close to doing so outside of one or two big chances that couldn’t be put away. It looked a little something like this: Total number of shots: 15 Total number of shots on goal: 3 Juventus’ final XG figure: 0.68 Simply put, that’s not good enough. It’s not good enough in terms of what Juventus created. It’s not good enough in terms of what Juventus did — or, in this case, didn’t — when it comes to the quality of scoring chances they had. And it’s not good enough when it comes to actually seeing something put on frame, with Empoli keeper Devis Vasquez only making one really good save. (Yes, it was a very good one.) ............ This team has gone through such an overhaul that they deserve at least a decent amount of time to get things on order and truly show what they can do under Motta. But at the same time, they keep throwing out performances like this and there will be people smashing that same panic button or throwing out wild statements that I’m not considering right now. That’s just the nature of this whole thing where sometimes context of the situation is thrown out the window like you’re littering. Panic button or no panic button, though, what Juventus do on the European stage in a couple of days suddenly became a lot more of interest than it might have been a couple of hours ago just because of how sub-par this performance was. RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Even with the scoreless draw, Juve moved top of the table again. Personally, I liked it when Juventus got a clean sheet and won. Clean sheet but there’s only one point that comes along with it? Unrelated: that first half was so drab. It was brutal. ............ Pietro Pellegri did get a yellow in relation for the headbutt. Oh, let me correct myself: Pellegri got a yellow for arguing with Gatti about it. There you go, Serie A refereeing! Way to make up for you initial mistake! Nico Gonzalez and Dusan Vlahovic both lost possession a team-high 13 times. One player had 46 touches, the other barely had 30. I think you can tell which one is which. Not great either way. When it comes to Vlahovic, we know that he is far from the perfect striker. That’s just facts. He’s not, as much as we’d love it, in the same class as that bulldozer in Manchester with the long blonde hair. Vlahovic is going to frustrate the hell out of us with missed chances no matter if Juventus win 3-0 like they did the first two games of the season or have scoreless draws like they’ve done in back-to-back games now. ........... Certain websites are already running headlines like “IS DOUGLAS LUIZ A FLOP?” and I just want to tell you to knock that crap off even though I know that will never happen. Maybe wait until a guy has more than one start at his new club under his belt? Maybe even 10? Maybe a full season’s worth? I don’t know. Douglas Luiz is a talented player and I look forward to him finding his footing at Juventus and then bringing back some receipts. That’s all I’m saying, friends. ............ Federico Gatti with twice as many defensive actions than anybody else in bianconero and a last-second tackle to save a potential goal? That’s my captain! ............ 4. Empoli 0-0 Juventus: Player ratings – Nico and Douglas Luiz disappoint Empoli: Vasquez 7.5; Goglichidze 6.5, Ismajli 7, Viti 6.5; Gyasi 6, Grassi 6, Henderson 6, Pezzella 7; Esposito 6, Maleh 6; Colombo 5. Best Empoli player: Vasquez 7.5 – As far as goalkeeping performances go, it doesn’t get much better than that, really. ............ Coach: Roberto D’Aversa 7 ............ Juventus: Perin 6; Kalulu 6, Bremer 6, Gatti 6.5, Cambiaso 6; Douglas Luiz 5, Locatelli 6; Nico Gonzalez 5, Koopmeiners 6, Yildiz 6; Vlahovic 6. Best Juventus player: Gatti 6.5 – The temporary Juventus captain put in a solid centre-back’s performance, and was alert right until the end, providing a fine recovery in injury time to keep the scores level. Gatti has matured in the Juventus shirt, and looked composed, commanding and ready to lead his teammates. Coach: Thiago Motta 5: – The Bianconeri coach fielded what, on paper, was not far off his strongest available XI, handing first league starts to high-profile summer signings Teun Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz. It was only the first game back after the international break, and the first full game of the season for a few of their key players. That said, it didn’t quite click at the Castellani – Juventus were never really able to break down the strong Empoli defensive unit. They have gone from consecutive 3-0 wins to consecutive 0-0 draws. However, the Old Lady are still unbeaten, and a tally of eight points from a possible 12 is not a bad start. A testing week awaits. ............ 5. Juventus play out a drab 0-0 draw with Empoli Juventus played out a goalless draw against Empoli this evening, failing to secure a win for the second consecutive game. Empoli started by defending well, frustrating Juventus by allowing them to pass the ball around midfield without creating real chances. ............ Despite having some of their biggest names on the pitch, the lack of familiarity among the players left Dusan Vlahovic isolated up front at times. ............ Juventus nearly took the lead immediately after the break when Vlahovic connected with a well-placed pass, but Vásquez once again pulled off a brilliant save. After failing to find a breakthrough, Motta made several substitutions, bringing on Khephren Thuram, Samuel Mbangula, Timothy Weah, and Nicolo Fagioli to push for a winner. The new arrivals injected more urgency into Juventus’ attack, but they still lacked the cutting edge to break down Empoli and score. ............ 9. Juventus teenager set for his first team debut against Empoli Vasilije Adžić is one of the new signings Juventus made this summer, and he could make an appearance in their game against Empoli. The Montenegrin teenager joined the Bianconeri as one of the most highly sought-after talents in his country. Some sections of the Montenegrin media have labelled him the best prospect to emerge from the nation, and much is expected of him. ............ Adžić could make his debut against Empoli. Motta has been impressed with his performances in training and might bring him on as a second-half substitute. Though he is unlikely to start the match, he is expected to be included and could see some minutes late in the game. ............ 10. “It takes time” Christian Vieri is sure Motta is the right man for Juventus Christian Vieri believes that Thiago Motta is the right man for the Juventus job and has fully earned the position, but he cautions that the manager will need time to succeed. ............ Motta is regarded as one of the best coaches in the game, and given Juve’s performances over the past three seasons, he has been tasked with exceeding expectations. Vieri, who has followed Motta since his time at Bologna, believes the coach has demonstrated his ability to transform a team. ............ “Motta? In Bologna, in the first six months, he saved them and in the second year he still played well, he took them to the Champions League. “Nobody expected it: in a year and a half they took him to save Bologna and then he went to the Champions League. Juventus took him: it takes time, he wants to play good football and wants to command the game, to do this it takes a bit of time and a bit of patience. But he is a very good coach, very smart”. ............ Read more -> https://www.juvefc.com/it-takes-time-christian-vieri-is-sure-motta-is-the-right-man-for-juventus/
  11. Juventus draws up a list of players that could replace Vlahovic Juventus will meet with Dusan Vlahovic’s representatives at the end of this month to renegotiate his contract. Although his current deal runs until 2026, the main concern is that Vlahovic is set to earn €12 million net in the final year of his contract. Juve is keen to avoid paying such a high salary and also wants him to extend his stay at the club. This situation is delicate because if Vlahovic refuses to accept a pay cut as part of a new contract, Juventus could find themselves in a position similar to their recent situation with Federico Chiesa. ............ The Bianconeri are eyeing several strikers as potential replacements: Jonathan David, Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyökeres, Victor Boniface, Santiago Gimenez, or Samu Omorodion. Juventus has been tracking these players and believes any of them could be a strong replacement for Vlahovic, likely on a more manageable salary. ............ 12. Boost for Juventus as two players make a full recovery ahead of Empoli game Juventus has received a fitness boost ahead of their weekend match against Empoli. ............ In their season opener against Como, Timothy Weah and Khephren Thuram were unable to complete the game due to knocks. Juventus gave them time to recover, and the international break allowed them to regain full fitness. Both players have now fully recovered and returned to full training with the squad. Thiago Motta can consider including them in the starting XI for the Empoli fixture or keep them available for the following match. This comes as a timely boost for Juventus, who face a congested fixture list with the Champions League about to begin. ............ 13. Juventus schedules meeting with Vlahovic’s agent and will make good offer Juventus is eager to reduce Dušan Vlahović’s salary through a new contract negotiation. Once his current deal reaches its peak, the Serbian striker is set to become the highest-paid player in Serie A, earning €12 million per season. ............ Juventus is not in a position to pay Vlahović €12 million net per season, which amounts to €24 million gross. As a result, the club is looking to renegotiate a new deal to bring down his wages. Juventus has scheduled a meeting with Vlahović’s agent at the end of this month to discuss a contract extension until 2028. The new terms would likely offer a salary similar to Lautaro Martínez’s €9 million net per season, potentially saving the club around €6 million annually. ............ He said: “Juventus will now face Empoli, PSV and then Napoli , three games that will allow us to take stock of the team’s potential. The Bianconeri fans are definitely full of ambition, legitimized by the market conducted by the club , which has brought top-level players to Turin, and also by the first outings of Thiago Motta who has given very comforting signals”. ............ Following that, they kick off their Champions League campaign against PSV before facing Napoli in Serie A next weekend. ............ According to Sky Sport’s Giovanni Guardalà, the manager will likely have no choice but to rotate his squad in the coming week to handle the busy schedule. He said: “Thiago Motta will have the chance to choose in view of Empoli, but then a very important week opens, because then on Tuesday there is PSV Eindhoven and on Saturday a not bad match for Juventus against Antonio Conte’s Napoli at the Allianz Stadium. 16. Rejuvenated Juventus star among players Spalletti could call in October Manuel Locatelli was not included in the Italy squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers and has rarely been considered for the national team since Luciano Spalletti took over as manager. Under Roberto Mancini, Locatelli was one of the team’s standout players and played a pivotal role in their Euro 2020 success. ............ However, he has shown improvement under Thiago Motta and is now expected to rejoin the Italy squad. Although he wasn’t called up for the September international break, Spalletti will likely call him up for the October international fixtures. ............ 17. Versatile Koopmeiners reveals his best role on the pitch Juventus’ new signing, Teun Koopmeiners, has spoken about his preferred role on the pitch, highlighting his versatility. He is determined to be a key figure in midfield under Thiago Motta and is open to playing in any role his new manager assigns him. 19. Juventus looking to secure the services of the “New Verratti” on long-term deal Juventus are reportedly working on locking down Diego Ripani, a teenage midfielder likened to Marco Verratti. The San Benedetto native is an 18-year-old deep-lying playmaker who started his career at Pescara, which partially explains the link to the former Paris Saint-Germain star. The Bianconeri poached the teenager in 2021, and immediately placed him in the U17 squad, although he was still 15 at the time. ............ Nevertheless, the midfielder could earn a promotion to the Next Gen squad in the coming months, thus reuniting with his former coach Paolo Montero. Ripani is thus considered one of the most promising talents in a talent-stacked youth sector. Juventus are keen to armor the former Pescara player with a new contract. ............ Ripani has also been leaving his mark on the international level. He has already earned eight caps for Italy U21, scoring a single goal in the process.
