  3. Massimo Mauro: ‘Douglas Luiz was embarrassing in the Empoli match’ Former Juventus player Massimo Mauro has offered his insights on the team’s performance under new manager Thiago Motta. While praising the overall project, Mauro suggests a less cautious approach might be needed to ignite the attack. ............ Regarding Douglas Luiz, Mauro is critical of his limited playing time: “From what we’ve seen in Empoli, it was right to rest him. In Tuscany, he was embarrassing, he was walking. If he should be used little in the future as well, then yes, it would become a problem considering he was paid 51 million.” ............ 4. Juventus gets Francisco Conceicao boost, but there is a new injury Juventus has received both a boost and a setback on the injury front ahead of their next game. The Bianconeri have largely enjoyed a fit squad this season, but as the campaign has progressed, they have lost some key players to injury. One player they have been eagerly awaiting is Francisco Conceição, who has been sidelined since the last international break. ............ Timothy Weah has sustained now a new injury and will be unavailable for the weekend match. 5. Crowd likely to be banned for Genoa vs. Juventus after violent clashes The Serie A match between Genoa and Juventus on Saturday is expected to be played behind closed doors as a result of violent clashes with Sampdoria supporters in the Coppa Italia. ............ There was set to be a huge crowd in the stands for the big game, but reports suggest it will instead be played behind closed doors. A final decision will be made by the local authorities on Friday morning and all signs are currently pointing towards an empty stadium. This is a strong response to the violent clashes that happened both before and after last night’s Coppa Italia Second Round tie between rivals Genoa and Sampdoria. ............ 6. Tacconi lauds Di Gregorio & Bremer: “An animal that pounces on his prey” Legendary Juventus goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi applauded Michele Di Gregorio and Gleison Bremer for their displays against Napoli. The 67-year-old made his long-awaited return to the Allianz Stadium on Saturday following a long health ordeal. ............ Tacconi was full of praise for his successor Di Gregorio who showed his competence on a couple of occasions during the encounter to earn his fourth clean sheet in as many league appearances for the club. “He had excellent reflexes, a great reaction,” said Tacconi in his interview. “I would say that he started his adventure in black and white excellently. These big saves are like scoring a goal, they transmit confidence. ............ The former Italy international also hailed Gleison Bremer who had the upper hand in his physical duel against Romelu Lukaku. “It’s crazy how good he is. It’s like watching an animal for the way he pounces on the opponent, almost as if he were his prey. ............ 7. Costacurta highlights difference between Vlahovic & Lautaro Martinez: “Too emotional” Legendary Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta explains how the difference between Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is mostly mental. ............ Costacurta feels that the goal drought weighing more on Vlahovic than Martinez, and that is down to their mentality. ............ The Milan legend urges Vlahovic to mentally free himself from his goal obsession. “When I watch Vlahovic, I see him too emotional. He is thinking too much about goals,” said the 58-year-old. “Lautaro is more detached from the obligation to poach goals from the box, so he makes himself more involved in the play. “Vlahovic must overcome the phase of considering the goal as a fundamental aspect of his game,” concluded Costacurta. 8. Juventus intend to purchase Kalulu from Milan following convincing start Juventus have already decided to exercise their option to buy Pierre Kalulu from Milan after an impressive start to the new season. ............ After missing out on Riccardo Calafiori and Jean-Clair Todibo, Juventus decided to launch an attempt to sign Kalulu, while Milan offered little resistance. The Diavolo agreed to send the player to Turin for a loan fee worth 3.3 million euros and an option to buy at the end of the season. But the Bianconeri might not necessarily wait until June to activate the purchase clause, as the player’s impressive displays in the early weeks of the campaign have already convinced the management to keep him. ............ The Frenchman would cost Juventus a transfer fee of 14 million euros (to be added to the loan fee), plus bonuses that could reach 3M, thus taking the total cost of the operation to circa 20 million euros. 9. Motta tried to “spur” Vlahovic with eyebrow-raising substitution – The two men already discussed it Juventus coach Thiago Motta was only intending to prompt a response out of Dusan Vlahovic through the much-discussed substitution against Napoli, explains a report in the Italian press. ............ The 24-year-old hit a new low in Saturday’s big showdown against Napoli. Following a listless first-half performance where he only touched the ball on six occasions, his manager decided to haul him off at the interval. The decision raised many eyebrows, especially since his replacement was Timothy Weah, a winger by trade. ............ Motta was only trying to “spur” Vlahovic and spark a reaction in the coming weeks. Motta still appreciates the striker’s attitude and willingness to fight for the team’s cause. However, he would like him to become less frenetic on the pitch and avoid getting easily frustrated by the lack of service or wasted chances. ............ 10. Juventus make first contact with the entourage of Ligue 1 bomber Juventus have reportedly made the first concrete move in their attempts to secure an agreement with Lille striker Jonathan David. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the deadliest bombers in Ligue 1 since his arrival in France back in 2020. ............ The Canadian has refused all renewal offers, as he seems intent on pursuing bigger career objectives. This situation has alerted several top clubs around Europe, including Juventus who might need a new striker with Dusan Vlahovic failing to deliver on a consistent basis. ............ The club’s Football Director Cristiano Giuntoli has already made contact first with the player’s entourage. The Bianconeri would like to place themselves ahead of the competition from the very start, as they reportedly consider David one of their main objectives for next season. ............ The Brooklyn native has often been deployed as a centre-forward, but he can also feature as a second striker or an attacking midfielder when required. 11. The Douglas Luiz mystery – Why is the former Aston Villa star struggling at Juventus? Despite being the club’s second-most expensive signing of the summer after Teun Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz has yet to hit the ground running since arriving at Juventus. ............ Last season, the 26-year-old was one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League. He scored ten goals and produced as many assists across all competitions. However, he’s been struggling to impose himself in Thiago Motta’s middle of the park. The Brazilian only had one start thus far this season in what was a disappointing showing in Empoli. ............ Luiz’s late return from the summer vacation has been taking its toll on his physical condition. Moreover, the player is still trying to adjust to the new training methods and tactical system, which also hindered his early weeks at the club. Therefore, the source insists there shouldn’t be a reason to panic at the moment, as the Brazil international can still turn out good for the Bianconeri. ............ 12. Juventus considering new playing position for Kenan Yildiz Juventus coach Thiago Motta is reportedly tempted to test his young star Kenan Yildiz in a different position. The 19-year-old originally rose onto the scene as a second striker, but has been mostly playing as a left winger this season, producing mixed results. ............ Yildiz could be tried as a false Number 9 at some stage. Dusan Vlahovic has been out of sorts as of late. He only managed to score two goals against Hellas Verona since the start of the season. Many supporters fear that the Serbian might not be the ideal centre-forward for Motta’s tactical system. Therefore, the coach could decide to test Yildiz in this role, and hope for results similar to the Joshua Zirkzee experiment from his Bologna days. ............ So it remains to be seen if Motta would be willing to drop Vlahovic – the league’s highest-paid athlete – to make way for this curious experiment. 13. Italian reports link Juventus with sensational Osimhen swoop In the last few hours, circulating reports in the Italian press are linking Juventus with a move for Napoli loaned-out striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian cemented himself as one of the finest strikers in Europe during his time at the Stadio Maradona between 2020 and 2024. ............ Osimhen was tipped to join Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, but the transfer never materialized. In the end, he had to accept a loan move to Galatasaray to avoid spending the campaign on the sidelines. Nevertheless, many observers expect the striker to find himself a more ambitious club sooner rather than later. ............ Osimhen’s contract with Napoli includes a buy-out clause but it could be activated by a foreign club. Therefore, Juventus would have to negotiate a deal with Aurelio De Laurentiis next summer. However, the Napoli patron could be willing to drop his price since the player’s contract will expire in June 2026. ............ 15. “He wasn’t injured” – Thiago Motta reveals why he hauled off Vlahovic at half-time Juventus coach Thiago Motta explained that removing Dusan Vlahovic at halftime against Napoli was purely technical. The Serbian has only managed to score twice since the start of the season, bagging a brace against Hellas Verona in the second round of the Serie A season. ............ So after a disappointing showing in the first half, Vlahovic was nowhere to be seen after the interval. Motta decided to replace him with Timothy Weah, even though the latter is a winger by trade. After the contest, the Juventus manager admitted it was a technical decision, while trying to ease the situation with a few pleasant words regarding the striker’s performance. “Dusan was fine, he wasn’t injured,” said the 42-year-old in his post-match interview. “He had a good first half, he helped the team by looking for depth even though we couldn’t really reach deep positions. ............ “We have to win more matches and do better. We found strong teams that played. We did okay too, but we can’t be happy with the result. “We must always aim to win. We managed to pin back Napoli, but we must improve in the final third.” Read more -> https://www.juvefc.com/he-wasnt-injured-thiago-motta-reveals-why-he-hauled-off-vlahovic-at-half-time/
  16. Kenan Yildiz is Juventus’ new No. 10, can he live up to his predecessors? Heavy is the head that wears the crown... Historically, the No. 10 in the world of football has been reserved for the greats. Lionel Messi, Diego Mardonna, Pele, and Michel Platini have all donned the number on the world stage, and are remembered as legends of the game. This number stands for many things, from playmaking, to leadership on and off the pitch, and creativity that will generate goals, opportunities, and positive influence on the team. This season, 19-year-old Kenan Yildiz was selected to have the number emblazoned upon the back of his black and white kits. Nicknamed by many as “starboy,” a pun on the Turkish translation of his last name that literally means “Star,” the player is a product of the Juventus Next Gen after he arrived from Bayern Munich two years earlier, who saw his first senior team appearance in 2023. Soon thereafter, he became the youngest international player to ever score a goal in the Serie A, at only 18 years of age. Since then, his rise has been meteoric. Fans of Juventus have seen him as a new and welcome addition to the squad, was called up to the Turkish national team for the 2024 Euros, and has generally proved to be a skilled technique player. ............ In terms of status as a legend on both the club and international stage, no Juventus player to wear the No. 10 comes even close to Alessandro Del Piero. Nicknamed “Pinturicchio” due to his similar style of play to Roberto Baggio, Del Piero is easily one of the greatest Italian football players to ever grace the field, if not the world. He began wearing a few different numbers during his career at Juventus, but the No. 10 in the 1995-96 season became permanent and lead to more than fifteen years wearing the number. This season would eventually lead to Juve’s second and most recent Champions League title. ............ Additional Juventus legends to wear the No. 10 include Roberto Baggio, Tevez and Platini, all of who dominated the pitch in their respective time. This leads to the question: Is Yildiz ready to don the No. 10 shirt and all the history with it? While he has been in superb form since his debut, there are some who may say that this move is premature. Overall, this choice from the club represents a more progressive and younger skewed vision for the club. It is important to note that Del Piero was only nineteen years of age in the 1993-94 season when he briefly donned the number, and twenty-one when it became permanent. He and Yildiz are similar in the sense that they were both young talents when they arrived at Juventus and were launched into the spotlight soon after. ............ To his benefit, Yildiz, in his first Champions League outing with Juventus, netted the first goal of the competition in spectacular, and in doing so, became the youngest player in Juventus history to score in the competition. For now, it looks like this choice to move him to the 10 spot was a good one, and time will tell if the successes continue. 17. Motta: Juve ‘have to do something more’ to break out of Serie A scoring drought There’s no lacking for things to discuss following Juventus third straight scoreless draw in Serie A. Coming into Juventus’ early-season showdown with Napoli and former manager Antonio Conte, the hope was that Thiago Motta’s squad could break out of their scoring funk that has seen them fail to find the back of the net in back-to-back league fixtures. The hope, at least for one more day, went up in smoke as things went on Saturday night against Napoli. Juventus recorded their third straight scoreless draw Saturday night, with the same sorts of problems that hampered them in their previous outings against Roma and Empoli on either side of the international break. Juve were hoping to continue their goal-scoring moment from their midweek Champions League win over Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, but could only muster a grand total of two shots on target and rarely test a Napoli side that had to bring in their backup goalkeeper midway through the first half due to an injury to Alex Meret. “In order to win, we have to do something more,” said Motta, whose team has yet to lose a game this season but has also dropped points in their last three Serie A fixtures. “We’ve been up against teams with good players, we did well today, but clearly we cannot be happy with the result, because we always play to win. This remains the right path, we pinned Napoli back for long periods and need to do better in the final third.” “When a team clams up in defense,” Motta continued, “it’s not easy for anyone to break them down. We are on the right track, we have the quality to do better with a change of tempo, shots from outside the box, there are many ways we can unlock them and we have the characteristics to do that.” ............ “Vlahovic is fine, he has no physical problem. He had a good first half, tried to attack the space, although there wasn’t much of it today because Napoli clammed up and limited the spaces,” Motta said. “It was a good (team) performance, but clearly we got to the final third and that is where we need to improve. Weah was meant to alternate, which Tim did well in the second half, and also attack the penalty area. They each have their own characteristics and ways of helping the team.” ............ “Kalulu and Koopmeiners only recently joined the club, but they have a fantastic attitude, they are two examples of that,” Motta said. “(Manuel) Locatelli had a great game today, he trains well, he always communicates with his teammates. He’s always focused on what he has to do, that’s why Manu plays.” A player who has surprisingly started the last couple of games is Weston McKennie, who looked destined to leave Juventus for much of the summer before he was brought back into the squad prior to the 2024-25 season opener. ............ “He is a player who reads the spaces well, can get into the opposition penalty area, help out in attack and defense,” Motta said. “We have strong players who together can show their potential to the benefit for the whole team.” Read more -> https://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2024/9/22/24250822/thiago-motta-juventus-napoli-2024-serie-a-matchday-5-final-score-result-manager-comments-analysis
  18. McKennie admits Juve needed an extra contribution to beat Napoli Juventus played out a goalless draw against Napoli today, extending their winless run in Serie A. Following consecutive goalless draws in the league, Juve managed to break that streak with a 3-1 victory over PSV in the Champions League midweek. Fans were hoping for a similar attacking display against Napoli, but both teams neutralised each other, leaving Juventus scoreless once again. ............ Weston McKennie made his second consecutive start and delivered a solid performance. After the match, he acknowledged that the team was missing that crucial edge needed to secure a victory. He said: “It’s difficult to win matches without scoring, we needed an extra contribution from us midfielders too”. Asked what he thought about Dusan Vlahovic’s substitution and struggles, he added: “He won’t be happy but the whole team must put him in a position to score”............. 19. Bremer insists Juventus is on the right track and are only missing one more step Gleison Bremer has admitted that Juventus will regret missing the opportunity to beat Napoli, but he remains confident that the team is heading in the right direction. Under Thiago Motta, Juventus are still unbeaten, but three consecutive draws in Serie A have seen them lose ground at the top of the table. Despite the disappointment, Bremer believes Juve can take positives from the result, especially considering the quality of Antonio Conte’s Napoli. ............ Bremer acknowledged that failing to score ultimately prevents you from winning matches. However, the Brazilian is optimistic, viewing this as the beginning of a new journey for Juventus, one that will require patience and faith in their manager’s vision. He said: “It’s a shame we didn’t win this match, the important thing is to score and without scoring it’s difficult. We’re on the right track and we have to continue like this”. Adding: “We are starting a journey and it is difficult to find goals right away, the last step is missing. We must listen to the coach and continue like this”. ............ 20. Thiago Motta: ‘Vlahovic was taken off as a technical choice’ Following Juventus’ recent draw against Napoli, manager Thiago Motta shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and individual player contributions. Motta addressed several key points about the match and his tactical decisions. Regarding Vlahovic’s performance, Motta stated, “Vlahovic is doing well. He had a good first half and helped the team by attacking the depth, even though there wasn’t much of it today.” The manager also praised Weah’s impact as a substitute, noting, “Weah came on well. We reached the final meters, and that’s where we need to improve.” Motta acknowledged the team’s potential for improvement, especially in attack. “Certainly, when a team sits back, it’s not easy for anyone. We have the quality to do it, but we’re on the right path,” he explained. “We need to change the rhythm and attack the depth. When we face a team with many men in the penalty area, we have more ways to score.” ............ Read more -> https://www.footitalia.com/thiago-motta-vlahovic-was-taken-off-as-a-technical-choice/
  21. Juventus 0 - Napoli 0: Initial reaction and random observations Another scoreless draw in Serie A, my friends. Well, I guess the good part in all of this is that Juventus, while they are struggling to score against their last three Italian opponents, aren’t exactly allowing anything, either. So there’s that. But the problem is, for the third straight Serie A weekend, Thiago Motta’s squad has failed to do much of anything in front of goal. First it was Roma before the international break, then it was Empoli coming out of the international break, and now it’s another night to forget in attack, this time coming Saturday night in a scoreless draw against Napoli and old “buddy” Antonio Conte. It didn’t really matter how much possession Juventus had — and especially in the second half, which was a lot of it — the chances were truly few and far between no matter who was in goal for Napoli on this day. And because of it, even with another clean sheet in Serie A, Juventus dropped more points — now six in the last few weeks — in what was another very winnable game. ............ But even with the clear-cut back pass that wasn’t called, Juventus had chances. The problem was, as it has been the last couple of games against Serie A opposition, putting things on frame. How bad was it in the second half? Well let’s just go ahead and take a look ... Possession: 71% Total shots: 7 Shots on goal: 0 Second-half xG: 0.22 ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Oh, you thought the no call on the back pass was the only major screw-up from Daniele Doveri? Well, let’s go back to the first half where Bremer got a set of studs right to the middle of his shin and nothing was called. Serie A refereeing at its finest. If you wanted a prime example of how exhausted some of these dues were at the final whistle, just go ahead and look back at Yildiz and Cambiaso walking off the field. Absolutely GASSED. Wojciech Szczesny got a warm welcome in his return to Allianz Stadium. When his name was announced over the PA system as starting lineups were read, it’s pretty safe to say that Antonio Conte did not get that same kind of reception. In short: “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Speaking of Szczesny and the pre-game ceremony Juve held to honor their former starting goalkeeper, look at this outfit and tell me this guy isn’t enjoying retirement. ............ Dusan Vlahovic’s 45 minutes looked like this: six touches, four passes attempted, two passes completed, 0-for-3 on aerial duels and lost possession three times. You can see why Thiago Motta gave him the hook at the half simply because of production even with the lack of a natural backup currently on the bench. Just to state for the record, Motta said that everything is fine with Vlahovic physically, which means him being replaced by Timothy Weah at the start of the second half was purely a tactical decision. ............ Bremer looked like a natural with the captain’s armband on. Bremer also locked up Romelu Lukaku for the umpteenth time. I’ve lost count at this point. Danilo: unused sub. Douglas Luiz: unused sub. I think Andrea Cambiaso had about 456 touches on the ball and his heat map looked like the opposite of what a lazy Sunday after Juventus plays on a Saturday looks like. In actuality, Cambiaso had 117 touches — which is just wild for somebody who starts at fullback. ............ Pierre Kalulu looks like an absolute steal and I’m wondering why in the hell AC Milan decided that he should be an expendable player this summer. If he keeps playing this way, activating that buy option is going to be one of the easiest decisions Cristiano Giuntoli makes next year. ............ 23. Caprile breaks silence after referee controversy in Juventus vs Napoli Napoli goalkeeper Elia Caprile admits the Partenopei would have protested like Juventus, appealing for an indirect free kick from inside the box, but insists Mathías Olivera’s back-pass was not intentional. Juventus were furious in the second half of a 0-0 home draw against Napoli on Saturday as Caprile collected the ball with his hands inside the box after an Olivera back-pass. Daniele Doveri ruled that it was not intentional, but DAZN pundit Luca Marelli said Juventus’ protests were legitimate, so the Bianconeri should have been awarded an indirect free kick inside the box. ............ 24. Juventus Player Ratings vs Napoli: Bremer Shuts Down Lukaku Juventus (4-1-4-1) Michele Di Gregorio – 6.5 ............ Nicolò Savona – 6.5 The Juventus youngster looked composed at the back, preventing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from imposing any threat on the left flank. ............ Pierre Kalulu – 6.5 The Milan loanee was reliable once more. After playing at right-back on Wednesday against PSV, he showcased his prowess in a central role this time. Gleison Bremer – 7 A defensive masterclass from the Juventus stand-in captain who was first to the ball on almost every single occasion against Romelu Lukaku. Very few players can go shoulder-to-shoulder against the Belgian giant and come out on top. Andrea Cambiaso – 7 While he was placed at left-back on paper, the Italian was everywhere on the pitch. He was at times his side’s most dangerous player, especially when cutting through the middle to provide Koopmeiners with a big opportunity to score. Manuel Locatelli – 7 The Euro 2020 winner is finally coming into his own as a Regista. Dominated the middle of the park, made some crucial interceptions at the back and distrubuted the ball well. Nico Gonzalez – 5.5 ............ Weston McKennie – 6.5 ............ Teun Koopmeiners – 6 The Dutchman is improving with every appearance for Juventus as the chemistry between him and his teammates is beginning to florish. ............ Kenan Yildiz – 5.5 The teenager tried to replicate his stunning goal from midweek, but didn’t have his scoring boots this time. Worked hard for the team, but his impact dwindled as the game progressed. Dusan Vlahovic – 5 Another underwhelming showing from the out-of-sorts striker.
