It’s especially difficult to do just that when the team you write about doesn’t actually play its first friendly and its second friendly then becomes its first friendly as a result. .... Juve evened things up with rivals AC Milan twice in Southern California, ultimately beating them 4-3 on penalties thanks to a pair of big saves from Carlo Pinsoglio. Yes, that is very much something that you probably shouldn’t be surprised to read in a recap of things from a friendly played in the final week of July because, ultimately, if Pinsoglio — no matter how much we love him and want him to be the life of all of our parties — is having to do such a thing in a penalty shootout that actually counts then it signals just what kind of dire straights Juve may be in at the time. But come Thursday night, it was Juve’s No. 3 goalkeeper and a hodgepodge of PK takers who started things off on a winning note this summer even though the results probably don’t mean as much as some want you to believe. .... On this night, though, there were some good things that happened well before Pinsoglio was saving penalties and doing it with a giant smile on his face. Was the overall team performance all that great? No, not by any means. This was decent at times, but pretty not-great for a lot of other phases of the game. But when you see Federico Chiesa buzzing around and growing into the game like he did prior to his knee injury, that’s a good sign. When you see Dean Huijsen at all of 18 years old showing absolutely no fear and going strong into challenges, playing with poise, taking a crack at goal and then scoring a penalty in the kind of fashion he did, that’s a good sign. When you see Federico Gatti unable to get his head to the ball and Milan scoring a pair of goals because of it, that’s ... wait, that’s not a good sign. ... Don’t lie, you know you at least cracked a smile when you saw everybody congratulating Pinsoglio after Matias Soulé’s penalty won it for Juventus. It’s a friendly, but for a guy like Pinsoglio to get a little bit of shine is never a bad thing no matter if the game counts or not. .... I’m guessing Pinsoglio being named man of the match is something he’s not going to let the likes of Tek Szczesny and Mattia Perin forget about — at all. Pinso won the day, that’s for damn sure. OK, OK. Federico Chiesa also won the day with how he played. And boy, as much as I want to contain my excitement after his performance because it was for all of about 50 minutes or so and there will certainly be transfer rumors involving him over the next few weeks, seeing him play with that pace, that aggressiveness and yet also that kind of control was certainly a great sight. Is Chiesa being fielded as a striker optimal? No, of course not. But Chiesa being at the center of the majority of good things Juve did in attack or on the counter, that’s a very good development. Seeing Chiesa with wide open spaces in front of him and then create a handful of scoring chances, that’s what you want from your most dynamic attacking player. Fra gli attori cinematografici le mie preferenze vanno a Clint Eastwood (adoro i western), e in second’ordine a Dustin Hoffman e Robert Redford: alla Tv vedo cosa capita, non ho particolari predilezioni, diciamo comunque che mi attirano abbastanza gli sceneggiati gialli. Di leggere ho poco tempo, considerati gli allenamenti e gli studi, comunque mi soffermo volentieri su quei libri che si avvicinano alla realtà. PAVANELLO: La musica mi piace, con una particolare punta di preferenza per quella pop e quella rock. Fra i miei cantanti preferiti diciamo i Genesis e Claudio Baglioni; non vado molto spesso al cine, e anche qui comunque ho alcune preferenze, quelli di carattere giallo come trama, e Giannini e Dustin Hoffman fra gli attori. Alla televisione, che non vedo molto, mi piacciono abbastanza i romanzi sceneggiati. GOLA: Tutta la musica mi piace, specialmente quella moderna; amo molto tutti i nuovi cantautori che hanno veramente portato una nuova moda nel mondo musicale. Se debbo fare dei nomi mi soffermerei su De Gregori, Guccini. Come attori cinematografici diciamo Dustin Hoffman e Dalila Di Lazzaro. In quanto ai libri, così come i miei due compagni, non ho molto tempo, a causa dello studio e del calcio; leggo molto i quotidiani politici e sportivi e i romanzi d’avventura. – Quando vi recate in qualche città nuova per giocare una partita o effettuare un torneo, cosa fate di solito: state chiusi in albergo, oppure girate alla ricerca di cose nuove, monumenti, musei e così via? PAVANELLO: Dipende dalla città e da cosa offre, e se presenta cose belle; a volte sono gli stessi organizzatori che ci accompagnano in pullman a mostrarci le bellezze; l’importante comunque è svagarsi, non pensare alla partita. GOLA: In ogni città o paese dove vado mi piace vedere la gente, facce nuove, negozi, conoscere abitudini e modo di vivere. Ai musei non ho mai pensato, anche perché non ho una preparazione su questo argomento troppo difficile. FRANCISCA: Dipende anche dalla pioggia a parte gli scherzi, anche a me piace vedere gente nuova, negozi, strade; prima della partita solitamente c’è una certa tensione, e il passeggiare per strade sconosciute serve molto a distendere i nervi; anche a me i musei non vanno: bisogna capirli, ci va una competenza che io certamente non mi ritrovo. – Se un giorno vi accorgeste che non siete riusciti a sfondare, quale atteggiamento prendereste; continuereste a giocare oppure smettereste e cambiereste mestiere? FRANCISCA: Data la passione che è in me non potrei troncare di colpo, rimarrebbe solo una certa rassegnazione; io comunque continuo a studiare, per avere un giorno eventualmente un’alternativa, e continuerei in una squadretta come hobby. PAVANELLO: La passione rimane, non si può cancellare, quindi anch’io continuerei, magari in una piccola squadra, ma non abbandonerei mai le scarpette da calcio. GOLA: Smettere è impossibile, con la passione che mi ritrovo; anch’io continuerei a studiare e giocherei alla domenica in qualche compagine minore. – Vorrei sapere quale concetto avete delle persone più anziane di voi? PAVANELLO: Molta, molta stima: a volte non ci capiscono, ma secondo me è proprio per la diversità dei momenti in cui viviamo noi e sono vissuti loro; ma ripeto, a essi, che hanno senza dubbio un bagaglio di esperienza enorme, va tutta la mia stima e rispetto. GOLA: Io vivo con la nonna, che, pure con la sua età e pur non comprendendo niente di calcio, mi aiuta a perseverare, spingendomi a far bene, si interessa dei miei problemi e da lei ho sempre dei buoni consigli che metto in pratica ogni volta; e mi sono sempre trovato benissimo; a volte le idee fra noi e questi anziani non collimano, e allora bisogna trovare una via di mezzo, conciliare le idee in modo di andare d’accordo. FRANCISCA: Io vivo addirittura con tre nonni e li stimo molto; non sono affatto superati come si vuol far credere; hanno dalla loro un bagaglio di esperienza che riversata su di noi, con il nostro temperamento, ci fanno superare molte traversie e difficoltà. – Fareste l’arbitro? FRANCISCA: Per fare il mestiere di direttore di gara ci vuole molta passione; secondo me il salto da giocatore ad arbitro è troppo forte, poi io che sono abituato a giocare non mi abituerei mai a vedere gli altri intorno a me che corrono dietro al pallone ed io fermo a guardarli. PAVANELLO: No, assolutamente, c’è troppa responsabilità. GOLA: Se un giorno mi accorgessi di avere le qualità necessarie, perché no? Secondo voi ragazzi, per riuscire, per poter sfondare nel calcio, quale percentuale occorre di fortuna? GOLA: Quaranta per cento PAVANELLO: Sono anch’io dell’idea di Gola. FRANCISCA: Io la terrei su un tono più basso, diciamo soltanto il trenta, il resto è tutta abilità. – Al momento attuale, date più importanza allo studio o al calcio? FRANCISCA: Attualmente al calcio, tanto in un anno o due la cosa dovrebbe decidersi; o abbandonare o continuare. PAVANELLO: Metà e meta, un occhio al calcio e uno allo studio. GOLA: Per il momento cerco di conciliare le due cose. – Potreste elencarmi sommariamente i vostri maggiori pregi e relativi difetti? FRANCISCA: Debbo ancora migliorare in tantissime cose, vado bene ad esempio nel fluidificare, ma difetto ancora nel fisico come peso, poi il sinistro non è certamente allo stesso livello del destro. GOLA: I miei compagni dicono che ho la grinta, poi mi ritengo abbastanza buono tecnicamente, cosa comprensibile arrivando dal Nagc; mi manca ancora personalità, e lo scatto nel colpo di testa, tutte cose che spero arriveranno con gli anni e l’esperienza. PAVANELLO: Mi piace molto marcare l’uomo; difetto ancora abbastanza nell’uso del sinistro e manco di spregiudicatezza.
