Juventus sweating over Lloyd Kelly who is struggling with physical problem Juventus are reportedly concerned by the physical condition of Lloyd Kelly, who is dealing with two separate physical issues. The Englishman has been omnipresent in the starting lineup since the beginning of the season. He didn’t miss a minute of action under the guidance of Igor Tudor, a choice that was also confirmed by Massimo Brambilla, who acted as caretaker last Wednesday against Udinese. ............ Initial reports revealed that the player has been struggling with back pain, which prompted the decision to rest him on Saturday. Kelly has already overcome his back pain, but he’s now dealing with a thigh problem. ............ The former Bournemouth and Newcastle defender trained on his own on Sunday, which indicates that he might not be fit enough for Tuesday’s vital Champions League contest against Sporting CP. ............ . Chiellini prevails in Lega Serie A vote as Juventus maintain FIGC post Juventus director Giorgio Chiellini has been elected as the Lega Serie A representative on the FIGC board. The 41-year-old has only recently launched a career in sports management, having hung up his boots at the end of 2023. ............ According to several sources in the Italian press, Chiellini will now become a Lega Serie A representative of the FIGC council board after winning a vote on Monday. ............ The Lega gathered to elect a replacement for Francesco Calvo. The latter naturally vacated his post after leaving Juventus earlier this year. He had served as the club’s Managing Director of Revenue & Institutional Relations, but has now joined Aston Villa. Therefore, Juventus were keen to maintain the post by placing one of their own directors, and they identified the universally beloved Chiellini as the perfect candidate for the role. The Livorno native was considered the favourite ahead of the vote, even though some reports claimed that Inter president Giuseppe Marotta was backing Sassuolo CEO, Giovanni Carnevali. While it remains unclear where Marotta’s allegiances lied in this particular election, Chiellini received the majority of the votes, with 12 out of 20 Serie A club representatives picking him for the role. ............ Chiellini will now serve as one of four Lega Serie A representatives on the FIGC board, alongside the league’s president Ezio Mario Simonelli, Udinese vice-president Stefano Campoccia, and Marotta. ............ . Spalletti’s stance proves he understands Juventus better than Motta & Tudor Luciano Spalletti may have only arrived at Juventus on Thursday, but his early statements have depicted a man who’s completely aware of the club’s status in the Italian football pyramid. ............ Aside from the performance on the pitch, Spalletti has also stolen the headlines with his blunt statements, especially the ones related to the club’s Scudetto hopes. The experienced manager insisted that Juventus have what it takes to re-enter the title race, despite bleeding points during Igor Tudor’s last 45 days in charge. According to Tuttosport editor-in-chief Guido Vaciago, Spalletti’s Scudetto stance stems from two main reasons. ............ First, the Tuscan feels that this will be a tight race, as none of the top clubs has managed to break free from the rest of the pack, even though Inter and Napoli probably possess better-equipped squads. Second, Spalletti realises that aiming for the Scudetto must be the norm at Juventus. So while Thiago Motta and Tudor had often insisted that the club’s objective is to finish in the Top Four, the new manager is refusing to settle for a goal he considers below the club’s historical status. ............ . Sono entrato in questo topic proprio per chiedere se fosse vera la notizia di un interessamento del Tottenham (e forse anche del Bayern) per David. Avendolo preso a parametro zero, ci si potrebbe fare una buona plusvalenza.

Tottenham interested in Juventus summer signing who’s already on the market Juventus are reportedly willing to part ways with Jonathan David as early as January, which could represent an opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur. The 25-year-old was expected to be one of the hottest commodities on the market last summer after seeing out his contract with LOSC Lille. ............ David had a decent pre-season and then managed to score on his official debut against Parma. But while hopeful Juventus fans considered a sign of great things to come, the centre-forward hasn’t found the back of the net ever since. Canada’s all-time top goal-scorer started in most fixtures under Igor Tudor, but Dusan Vlahovic has apparently regained his berth in the lineup under Luciano Spalletti. ............ According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Juventus have already placed David on the market. The transfer market expert claims that Tottenham and Bayern Munich have already enquired about his services. ............ As for Spurs, their attacking department has been struggling to produce goals this season, despite the presence of several centre-forwards like Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Dominic Solanke, and former Juventus man, Randal Kolo Muani. ............ For their part, Juventus would register considerable capital gains by selling David, since they signed him on a free transfer in July. . Spalletti requests reunion with former Napoli pupil at Juventus New Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti is reportedly hoping to rekindle his collaboration with Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. The 28-year-old only spent one year in Italian football, but it was enough to leave an eternal mark, as it yielded a historic Scudetto title for Napoli after a 33-year drought, and it also saw him crowned as the Best Defender in Serie A. The South Korean’s exploits at the Stadio Maradona convinced Bayern Munich to activate his release clause by splashing €50 million. ............ Although he’s made 10 appearances across all competitions for the Bavarian giants, Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah are ahead of Kim in Vincent Kompany’s pecking order. Therefore, the former Fenerbahce and Napoli star has been repeatedly linked with a return to Italy, specifically through the gates of either Juventus or Inter. ............ The ‘Korean Monster’ is tied to Bayern with a contract valid until the summer of 2028. However, the Bundesliga giants do not consider him ‘unsellable’, adds the source. ............ Since we’re in the middle of the season, Juventus would likely attempt to sign the player on loan with an option or obligation to buy in June. As for the asking price, Bayern cannot afford to sell Kim for anything less than €30 million, given that they spent €60 million to secure his services just over two years ago. . Juventus probable lineup vs Sporting: Yildiz is back, Thuram to be rested? New Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti will make a few tweaks to his starting lineup ahead of Thursday’s Champions League contest against Sporting CP. The Bianconeri have yet to taste victory in Europe this season. They settled for draws against Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal in the first two matchdays, before suffering defeat when hosted by Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. Therefore, anything less than three points at the expense of the Portuguese giants would be considered a failure. ............ The manager also received good news from the training ground, with Kenan Yildiz rejoining his teammates in training after being rested on the weekend. ............ Spalletti has no doubts about fielding the young Turk as a starter. Yildiz could well join Loic Openda in the supporting roles for Dusan Vlahovic, who will spearhead the attack once more. ............ Khephren Thuram, who has been struggling with physical discomfort in recent weeks, could be dropped from the lineup. In this case, Weston McKennie will operate as a central midfielder alongside Manuel Locatelli. The American had played in a more advanced role against Cremonese. ............ Juventus Probable lineup (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti, Koopmeiners; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Kostic; Openda, Yildiz; Vlahovic. . Major boost for Spalletti as key Juventus star rejoins group training Sunday’s training session at Continassa bore good news for Juventus, as Kenan Yildiz returned to the fold. The Bianconeri are back from Lombardia with three important points in the bag after beating Cremonese by two goals to one on Luciano Spalletti’s debut. ............ Spalletti certainly had no time to soak it all in, as a vital Champions League encounter awaits him on Tuesday night. Juventus will host Sporting CP at the Allianz Stadium in a must-win match, as they have only collected two points from their first three European matches this season. Therefore, the Serie A giants resumed training as early as Sunday, even though the players who started on Saturday were allowed to rest. Sunday’s training session witnessed the return of Yildiz, who trained regularly alongside his teammates. This is certainly a major relief for Spalletti and his technical staff, as they’ll be able to count on the Turkish attacker for the first time, having missed his services against Cremonese. ............ After rejoining group training, Yildiz should be fit enough to start in midweek, but it remains to be seen in which position Spalletti will field him, and whether his return will prompt a change in the formation. ............ On a related note, the source reveals that Kelly underwent personalised training on Sunday, which is a concerning indication since we’re only two away from the contest against Sporting. It remains to be seen whether the Englishman will recover from his back problem in time, and who would replace him if he doesn’t. ............ . Iaquinta hails Spalletti: “More forward passes in 45 mins than in two years” Former Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta was delighted with the team’s display under Luciano Spalletti in Cremona. After sacking Igor Tudor on Monday, the management found a swift agreement with the vastly experienced Italian manager, who has been on the shelf since leaving the Azzurri in June. ............ While the final result wasn’t breathtaking by any means, a large section of fans and observers saw significant improvement in terms of the team’s overall performance. Despite taking the lead as early as the second minute, Juventus kept their foot on the pedal, and dominated the action for the bulk of the contest. ............ For his part, Iaquinta was mesmerised by the team’s performance, lavishing praise on Spalletti and his remarkable impact. “More forward passes in 45 minutes than in two years,” posted the former Juventus Italy striker. “The influence of a great coach is immediately evident.” Iaquinta played under Spalletti more than any other manager in his career. He made 106 appearances for Udinese during the manager’s stint in Friuli, contributing with 34 goals and 10 assists. ............ “I didn’t mean to offend previous managers, but I simply praised Spalletti, whom I know very well.” ............ . Preview: Juventus vs Sporting Lisbon - prediction, team news, lineups Still seeking their first Champions League win of the season, Italian giants Juventus will host Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday. While Juve have picked up just one point - amid a crisis that prompted change in the dugout - Sporting are within touching distance of the all-important top eight after posting two wins from three games so far. Match preview Following two dramatic draws - 4-4 against Borussia Dortmund and 2-2 versus Villarreal - Juventus were faced with perhaps the ultimate test last time out in the Champions League, as they visited the Bernabeu. Despite putting up a decent fight, the Bianconeri were still beaten by Real Madrid, prolonging an awful run of form. After eight games without a win across all competitions, Italy’s most successful club soon parted company with Igor Tudor, eager to halt their decline. Under caretaker coach Massimo Brambilla, Juve finally ended their long wait for a win by beating Udinese 3-1 - a result that preceded the arrival of their vastly experienced new boss. Former Napoli and Italy coach Luciano Spalletti was handed an initial contract until the end of the season, and he took charge of Saturday's Serie A clash with Cremonese, which marked the club's 128th birthday. There was a perfect start to Spalletti's reign, as Filip Kostic scored within two minutes of kickoff, before Andrea Cambiaso added a second soon after the hour mark; albeit Jamie Vardy's late response made for a nervy ending. Victory kept Juventus in touch with the top four, but they must now switch attention to kick-starting an ailing continental campaign. Dating back to last season, Juve have won only two of their last 11 Champions League contests - though they do have a positive record against this week's opponents. Unbeaten in four games against Sporting to date, the Bianconeri have won both meetings in Turin; most recently eliminating the Portuguese side in the 2023 Europa League quarter-finals. ............ Juventus Champions League form: D D L Juventus form (all competitions): D L L L W W Sporting Lisbon Champions League form: W L W Sporting Lisbon form (all competitions): D W W W W W Team News Spalletti surprisingly kept Tudor's trademark three-man defence on Saturday - albeit a more fluid version - rather than switching to his favoured 4-3-3 formation, so Juventus could name a similiar XI to that which started in Cremona. South American defensive duo Bremer and Juan Cabal are still sidelined by injury, but Kenan Yildiz (knee) and Lloyd Kelly (muscular) could be available after missing out at the weekend. Juve's front line has chopped and changed this season, but Dusan Vlahovic started the last two games alongside Lois Openda, with Jonathan David falling out of favour. To date, Vlahovic has recorded 11 goal involvements from 19 Champions League appearances, while Sporting star Pedro Goncalves has played a part in nine goals from 16 - the most of any player in the club's history. ............ Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Rugani, Gatti; Cambiaso, Thuram, Locatelli, Koopmeiners, Kostic; Openda, Vlahovic Sporting Lisbon possible starting lineup: Silva; Vagiannidis, Diomande, Inacio, Araujo; Hjulmand, Morita; Quenda, Trincao, Goncalves; Suarez We say: Juventus 2-1 Sporting Lisbon Buoyed by the arrival of a new coach, Juventus can post three wins on the spin while getting off the mark in this season's Champions League. Sporting have had a far more stable campaign, but they rarely travel well - their tradition of losing on Italian turf will go on. . Will Juventus recover Yildiz & Kelly for Champions League clash? Luciano Spalletti began his Juventus tenure with a 2-1 victory in Cremona, but he had to do it without Kenan Yildiz and Lloyd Kelly. ............ So will either player pull off a swift recovery and make himself available for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Sporting CP? ............ The absence of Yildiz was mostly precautionary. The 20-year-old isn’t injured, but has been suffering from discomfort in his left knee due to patellar tendinopathy. Therefore, Spalletti and his technical staff opted to rest him ahead of the crucial European encounter. Therefore, Yildiz is expected to rejoin the matchday squad, and he could well be in the starting lineup as usual. ............ While the source offered reassuring updates on Yildiz, Kelly’s condition is slightly more serious. The former Bournemouth and Newcastle man is struggling with back pain, and he will have to be assessed on a daily basis. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will be able to recover in time. If he doesn’t, Spalletti might have to extend Koopmeiners’ experiment at the back, or entrust Daniele Rugani with a starting role alongside Pierre Kalulu and Federico Gatti. ............ . Italy legend explains which position should Yildiz occupy under Spalletti Former Italy striker Francesco Graziani analyses how Kenan Yildiz would fit into the plans of new Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti. The former Roma and Napoli boss was appointed on Thursday, just three days following the sacking of Igor Tudor, who failed to win any of his last eight matches in charge. ............ Spalletti adopted a hybrid 3-4-1-2 formation that included some surprises, especially with Teun Koopmeiners starting at the back. Moreover, Weston McKennie operated as an attacking midfielder behind Loic Openda and Dusan Vlahovic, while Manuel Locatelli and Khephren operated in the double pivot. ............ “To be at the top, Juventus are missing a couple of quality midfielders,” said the 1982 World Cup winner in his interview. “McKennie is fighting but not creating. Thuram and Locatelli did well. The latter is one of the most criticised players, and yet, he remains a key component. Cremonese pushed forward in the second half, forcing Juve back into their own half. “Atalanta’s Koopmeiners was a different player compared to the current version. Now we need to have faith in the players in the squad, trying to get them to perform at their best. And that’s Spalletti’s job.” ............ The Turkish forward was rested as a precautionary measure, as he’s been dealing with a slight discomfort in his knee. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old will certainly command a starting role under Spalletti, and Graziani sees him playing behind the two strikers. “Yildiz can be the perfect attacking midfielder for Spalletti’s 4-3-1-2.” ............ . Le Pagelle: Juventus vs. Cremonese The Luciano Spalletti era started for Juventus on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Cremonese. That scoreline could’ve been a lot more had one or two things gone a little differently, but the new-look Juve had little ultimate problem despite Cremonese making things slightly too interesting with a late goal. ............ MICHELE DI GREGORIO - 6.5. An uneventful day for Di Gregorio, who faced only one shot on target besides Jamie Vardy’s late strike. Keeping the defense together was especially important for him given the unorthodox nature of the back line. (We’ll get to that). PIERRE KALULU - 6. ............ FEDERICO GATTI - 5.5. Not a great look to be outmuscled by a 38-year-old dude and then fail to catch up to him before he could shoot. It marred an otherwise good game that saw him make seven clearances and complete 91.7 percent of his passes. TEUN KOOPMEINERS - 6. Meant to try to overload the midfield when Juve was in attack, he did so at times but wasn’t the biggest offensive influence on the team. Defended competently and made a big double block late on. ANDREA CAMBIASO - 7.5. In the right place to poach what was ultimately the deciding goal, and was the biggest creator on the team. He had a game-high three key passes and had a few other well-placed balls fly through the area that didn’t reach a teammate. He’s played his last two games on the right and they’ve been his two best games of the season by a wide margin. MANUEL LOCATELLI - 6.5. ............ KHÉPHREN THURAM - 6. ............ FILIP KOSTIC - 7. Reacted perfectly to Vandeputte’s to give Juve the early lead and was excellent on the left side. He had a pair of dribbles as well as a pair of clearances. Also played a huge part in Juve’s press, keeping Cremonese’s wing-backs pinned back. WESTON McKENNIE - 6.5. ............ LOÏS OPENDA - 5.5. Got himself into good positions all night but still clearly lacks the confidence to act quickly on the field. Could’ve scored once or twice had he taken his shots earlier. DUSAN VLAHOVIC - 6. Could’ve had himself another goal but Audero saved his shot well after an audacious turn. Absolutely ferocious in the press. SUBS FRANCISCO CONCIEÇÃO - 6. Set up Cambiaso’s goal with a nice move, and made some trouble when he got the ball. VASILIJE ADZIC - NR. ............ JOÃO MÁRIO - NR. ............ JONATHAN DAVID - NR. ............ DANIELE RUGANI - NR. ............ MANAGER ANALYSIS Spalletti showed a heck of a lot of gumption in making the tweak he made to the system given he only had one training session before the game. His use of Koopmeiners in the back to essentially serve as a super-deep-lying playmaker and essentially an extra midfielder in possession was an interesting experiment, and not one I think Spalletti would care to repeat against higher-level opposition, but an interesting wrinkle nonetheless. ............ Wednesday’s win saw some of that rigidity melt away, and on Saturday it was clear they were enjoying the freedom Spalletti had afforded them. When a team is clearly having more fun on the pitch, the play is almost invariably better—and this team was clearly enjoying themselves more than they have in weeks. It’s obviously far too early to truly ascertain how Spalletti wants to play on a regular basis, but if the freedom we saw the players afforded is the norm, we could see a much happier and more engaged squad over the course of the season. ............ . Why Spalletti is keen to play with three at back despite Juve’s defensive emergency On his Juventus debut in Cremona, Luciano Spalletti insisted on fielding a three-man backline, even though he had limited options in defence. The Bianconeri went with a hybrid formation, with some viewing it as a 3-5-2, while others interpreted it as a 3-4-2-1. ............ In any case, the fact that Spalletti was so keen to play with three defenders that he converted Teun Koopmeiners to a centre-back stole the headlines. ............ The new Juventus boss had to do without Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, who suffered fresh setbacks last month, plus Lloyd Kelly who’s struggling with back pain. Hence, Koopmeiners was the unlikely candidate who joined Pierre Kalulu and Federico Gatti in the three-man defence. This decision somewhat paid off, with Juventus beating Cremonese by two goals to one. But for a manager who spent the bulk of his career playing with four at the back, one might wonder why he decided to adopt this formation on his Juventus bow in the first place. ............ While his predecessors Thiago Motta and Igor Tudor were determined to implement their favourite formations, Spalletti has opted for a more pragmatic approach. ............ As the source explains, the 66-year-old noticed that if he chooses to adopt a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system, he would be left with three strikers (Vlahovic, Openda and David) vying for one role. Moreover, Spalletti feels that Juve’s wide options (Cambiaso, Kostic and Joao Mario) are more comfortable playing as wing-backs rather than full-backs. ............ . Cambiaso reveals what Spalletti told him on Italy experience, identifies his preferred role Juventus wing-back Andrea Cambiaso opened up on his reunion with Luciano Spalletti, while also discussing his favourite role on the pitch. The 25-year-old helped the newly-appointed manager earn a win on his club debut, as he scored the second goal against Cremonese, which turned out to be the winner, as Saturday’s contest ended 2-1. ............ Cambiaso is one of the few Juventus players who are already familiar with Spalletti, having played under his tutelage in the Italian national team. ............ “I was happy with his arrival. He’s a coach who, I certainly don’t have to say how good he’s been throughout his career. He’s done well everywhere,” said Cambiaso in his post-match interview. “I’ll tell you something about Mr Spalletti: when we first met at Continassa, he told me he was still upset about the national team, so that says a lot about his passion for this sport. “I’m happy to see him again; I’m convinced he can give us a huge hand.” ............ “We conceded a goal that could and should have been avoided,” he said. “We allowed them to reopen a game that was already over, but the important thing is that we won.” ............ “Playing on the right is easier for me. This definitely helped me today. I found good opportunities centrally, and it’s easier to get into the field.” ............ .
