'Tevez deserves World Cup place'

Apr 9, 2014

Former Argentina international Ariel Ortega believes that Carlos Tevez has earned his place at the World Cup.

With the Albiceleste’s wealth of attacking talent, the Juventus striker may well find himself sidelined for the tournament in Brazil.

But the retired forward has insisted that the Biancocelesti man has done enough in Serie A to be called up by Coach Alejandro Sabella.

“Tevez has done so much this season with Juventus,” he told Radio De La Red.

“Personally, I think he deserves his place in the squad, and maybe even the team.

“He’s played a great season in Italy and has adapted to Serie A really well.”

Tevez 'non-football situations'

Apr 10, 2014

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta said Carlos Tevez is not playing for Argentina due to “non-football situations.”

The striker is Serie A top scorer with 18 goals this season, but is consistently ignored by Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella.

“Clearly Tevez is a man and therefore aspires to wear the jersey of his country, especially at a World Cup,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“He deserves it for his talents, but the Coach makes his decisions. I think it is down to non-football situations we don’t know.

“As a professional, Tevez accepts this decision with disappointment, but understanding, realising he can gain satisfaction elsewhere in his career.”

Tevez ‘won’t follow’ Argentina

Apr 16, 2014

Juventus forward Carlos Tevez says he has no plans to follow Argentina at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The 30-year-old seems set to miss out on a place in Alejandro Sabella’s 23-man squad for the tournament but refused to criticise the tactician for his exclusion.

“No, I don’t think I will go to watch Argentina’s matches,” Tevez said to Cronica. “I have plans to go to Disneyland with my wife and children instead!

“When I was at Corinthians I had a great relationship with Sabella. We never had any problems and the respect was always there.

“Everyone asks me why I’m not in the national team, but I can’t answer that because it would not be respectful. It’s just the way things are.

“I think the CT is just happy with the players he has called up and that’s it. If he wins, everyone will thank him for his decisions.

“Because of this it wouldn’t be right if I were called up now.

“I haven’t been part of the journey. So once I have finished celebrating Juve’s victories at the end of the season, I will go to Disneyland.”

Tevez denies Messi rumours

Apr 16, 2014

Carlos Tevez denies that one of the reasons he is not being selected for Argentina is because he has a poor relationship with Lionel Messi.

The 30-year-old is set to miss out on a place in his country’s squad for this summer’s World Cup but says he is on good terms with the Barcelona man.

“I really don’t know where certain stories come from,” Tevez said as part of his interview with Cronica.

“The truth is that we have played together in matches and training and there has never been a problem.

“He is a very nice person and very polite. This should be his World Cup and I wish him well from the bottom of my heart because he is a marvellous player.

“He and Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom I played at Manchester United, are the best players in the World.”

Tevez has been great for Juve, says Buffon

The veteran shot stopper praised the Argentina international and hailed Antonio Conte
for the way he has motivated the players after winning two straight Serie A titles.

Apr 16, 2014

Gianluigi Buffon has credited Carlos Tevez for being one of the driving forces behind Juventus' title challenge this season.

Tevez arrived at the Juventus Stadium in a reported €10million deal from Manchester City in the close-season, and has responded with 18 league goals in a fruitful debut campaign thus far.

And Juve captain Buffon believes that the Argentina international's desire for victory has been crucial this term, particularly at the start of the season.

"I have to say that in key moments of the season, in my opinion, the will to win and the characteristics of a driver like Carlos Tevez has given us a big hand, especially at the beginning, when we were a bit apathetic," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"His great physical prowess, although he is not enormous, his competitive spirit, in many games, especially at the start, dragged us through and earned us the three points."

Juventus are seemingly on their way to a third straight Serie A title, and hold an eight-point lead over second-placed Roma with just five games remaining.

Buffon also paid tribute to head coach Antonio Conte for continuing to motivate the team.

"He has brought a lot this year on a motivational level, because it can be argued that after two titles, the third is not so clear cut because in some groups there can be a sense of fulfilment that can cause issues," Buffon added.

"But someone like him has helped us this year to always stay on track, not to take anything for granted."

Tuttosport says Sebastian Giovinco will play
in Serie A, Carlos Tévez in the Europa League

Apr 17, 2014

The news following Juventus' 2-0 win over Udinese on Monday has been, well, relatively slow when it comes to actual on-the-field matters. It's pretty easy to understand why. There's no Scudetto race to hype up with Juve being ahead of Roma by a comfortable eight-point margin and Juve are about to battle with a couple of relegation battlers rather than title contenders.

There's been plenty of interviews, though, if that's your thing. Gigi Buffon talked about Paul Pogba and how he trusts the Juve management when it comes to the French midfielder's future at the club. Andrea Pirlo wrote in his English-version book about how Rino Gattuso tried to kill people with forks. Beppe Marotta talked about Antonio Conte and a contract renewal for the Juve manager.

You know, some stuff we've heard for months, some stuff that is relatively new and interesting.

But on Wednesday morning, Tuttosport rolled out something that would directly impact Juventus on the field. And not as they cranked up their in-house Transfer-O-Meter another notch for next season. This has to do with Juve this season. Hell, it has to do with Juve this weekend.

Well, potentially this weekend if their report has any kind of juice behind it.

It's something coming from Tuttosport, you know, so we probably have to take it with a grain of salt until it actually becomes a reality. But let's say all of this is what Antonio Conte is planning on doing for the final month of the season. Instead of spitting out typical transfer blabber on a daily basis, they actually went with something that makes a decent amount of success.

The gist of it, if you didn't figure out the caption by now, is that Sebastian Giovinco will be the one playing in Serie A matches and Carlos Tévez will put his attention towards Juve's upcoming Europa League games against Benfica — and possibly beyond if Juventus get that far.

The two biggest things of having a Tévez-Giovinco alternation?

1. Having Tévez solely concentrated on the two Europa League matches against Benfica — and a possible cup final in the middle of May at Juventus Stadium — would allow him to rest any kind of injury he has been bothered by over the past week. It's why Conte kept him out of Juve's trip to the Friuli on Monday night and you would like to assume it's why any kind of Giovinco-related playing time will be coming in the future.

2. Giovinco will get playing time — and a lot of it. And based off what he has done his last couple of times out, he's adding something positive to the team. His goal against Udinese this past Monday night will be the headliner of why he should be playing more these days — and I understand why.

You never know, if this playing time scenario is the case and Giovinco is playing the rest of the way in Serie A, he could very well be showing what can do when it comes to next season. And while it won't be the biggest sample size in the world, this would be Giovinco's first regular playing time for the first time since last season. A year ago, the little guy started over half of Juve's games in Serie A. This season? All of four. That's what you'd expect out of somebody like Simone Padoin, not a player like Giovinco who is a known favorite of Conte. (I know there's been injuries, but just go with me here, people.)

Just consider this: Juventus have an eight-point lead over Roma and two big-time European games on the horizon. Would you rather have Tévez get extra rest against Bologna and be 100 percent and ready to break that favorite discussion point of everybody outside of Juventus circles a week from today? I think I know which one I'd go after.

But it's not like if you open Door No. 1 you're going to get a magical prize. Well, maybe Juventus playing in the Europa League final next month. In that case, I'd say Door No. 1 is a pretty good choice.

I understand that Conte wants to win everything left on the schedule because that's what Conte does. But a healthy Tévez is so much better than any other striker in Serie A these days.

Tevez: I don't have any problems with Messi

The 30-year-old has dismissed suggestions that his relationship with
the Primera Division star has kept him out of the Argentina squad.

Apr 17, 2014

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has insisted that he does not have any problems with Barcelona star Lionel Messi amid rumours that he has fallen out with the Argentina skipper.

A number of recent reports claimed that the former Manchester City forward has lost his spot in Argentina's national side due to his poor relationship with the Barca attacker, but Tevez has laughed off any such suggestion.

"I don't know where these rumours that I have a bad relationship with Messi are coming from," Tevez was quoted as saying by Cronica.

"Everybody publishes stuff like this, but the truth is that I don't have any problems with Messi.

"We have shared a lot of moments together, have trained together, have played together and there have never been any issues. He is a great person.

"This should be his World Cup and I wish him all the best because he is a marvellous player. He and Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom I played together at Manchester United, are the best in the world."

Tevez has made 64 appearances for Argentina, but has not featured for the Albiceleste since 2011.

Tevez: Conte top class

Apr 17, 2014

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has praised Old Lady Coach Antonio Conte, describing him as being ‘of the top level.’

Speaking to Sky Sport, the Argentine also revealed his surprise at how well his side’s season has gone to date.

“I’m well, I’m recovering physically and I’m thinking about Saturday’s match,” Tevez said today.

“Is this Tevez’s Juve? The team is the most important thing, not just one player. Game after game we have shown we are a great team.

“When I accepted the transfer to come here I didn’t think we could be fighting for both the Scudetto and the Europa League at this stage of the season.

“But we are Juve and we need to fight to win everything. We are happy we can do the double.

“Conte is already a top level Coach. He shows it game after game in every competition.

“He is already a great Coach and he has been key to my development.”

Tevez flattered by 'player of the people' nickname in Argentina

That Juventus striker says that he is just "a normal guy"
and so feels privileged to be so highly regarded among his compatriots.

Apr 18, 2014

Carlos Tevez is flattered that so many of his fellow Argentines are pushing for him to be recalled to the national team for this summer's World Cup, admitting that he feels honoured to be known as "the player of the people".

The Juventus striker has not played for his country since Alejandro Sabella took over as coach in 2011 and there appears little hope of the forward travelling to Brazil - despite the fact that he has netted 18 times in Serie A this season.

That has not stopped supporters and pundits alike calling for Tevez to be welcomed back into the Albiceleste fold, though, and he is touched by the affection his compatriots continue to show for him.

"I'm a normal guy and I don't give myself nicknames, like 'player of the people'," the former Manchester City striker told Sky Sport Italia.

"But I'm pleased when the people in Argentina do so much for me and call me that."

It has also been claimed that Tevez has carried Juve at times during his debut season in Serie A but he insists that the Bianconeri's strength is the collective spirit that coach Antonio Conte has cultivated in Turin.

"Tevez's Juve? No, I believe that the team is all important here, not only one player," he argued. "It's the team that is stronger than the player; this is shown in every game.

"And Conte is a top coach. He shows that in every game, in every competition in which Juve plays."

Conte grateful to Tevez

Apr 18, 2014

Antonio Conte has thanked Carlos Tevez for his praise this week and responded with a similar message of confidence in the striker.

The Argentine spoke very highly of the Juventus boss during an interview with Sky Sport, responding positively when the comparison between Conte and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was brought up.

It is a message that got through to Conte and that he has chosen in Friday’s Press conference to respond to.

“On what I have read that Carlos said last night, it definitely makes me very, very happy,” the Coach told reporters gathered.

“They are important comparisons with respect to Coaches who have made history, and I am referring to Ferguson.

“I thank him, I always thank my players, I always say that a Coach can have 100,000 ideas, they may have a particular way and everything, but you need to have great players and great men.

“I have had the good fortune in these three years to have had this. And for this I will never cease to thank my players, and the club that has provided me with this arrangement.

“With Carlos it was definitely an immediate feeling, from the first time we met to try to convince him to join our cause, to come to us.

“I saw him as very determined, he is a player with great personality, the greater the pressure gets, he is there.

“I had heard so much, also about the behaviour of Carlos, during training, that he did very little, but he has always been a great example and this definitely gives me great pleasure, because being able to see those such as Tevez trying to improve upon standards already established, it is certainly a source of pride and satisfaction.

Liverpool look at Tevez .asd

Apr 26, 2014

The Corriere dello Sport claims Liverpool will target Juventus striker Carlos Tevez if Luis Suarez leaves.

Tevez only joined the Bianconeri last summer for €9m (£7.9m) from Manchester City, scoring 18 goals in 30 Serie A games so far this season.

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, the 30-year-old is the first name on Liverpool’s shopping list if hitman Suarez decides to walk away from Anfield.

Although Tevez has Premier League experience with West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City, he also ran into a series of personal issues in England.

This move seems to be extremely unlikely, particularly as Suarez rejected offers to leave Liverpool last summer and is now on the verge of winning the Premier League with Champions League qualification.

Argentina boss Sabella all but
ends Tevez's World Cup hopes

The 59-year-old has ignored the forward since taking charge of the Albiceleste in 2011
and says he there is little chance of him ending the Juventus ace's international exile.

Apr 26, 2014

Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella has all but ended Carlos Tevez's hopes of featuring in World Cup 2014, admitting that it is "very unlikely" that he will select any players that he has not called upon before.

The striker has been in sensational form for Juventus this season, playing a key role in the Italian side's bid for a Serie A and Europa League double, and he recently admitted that he was still dreaming of representing his country in Brazil this summer.

However, Sabella has not called up Tevez once since taking charge of the Albiceleste in 2011 and admitted that he is unlikely to imminently end the striker's international exile.

"We're just a few weeks away from the selection," he told reporters. "I'm not saying no, but I think it's really hard to see it.

"I will not stop evaluating [players] right up until the end and maybe there's a chance of me calling on someone I've never called upon before.

"I don't want to name names. But I repeat: it's really very unlikely to happen."

Tevez has struck 18 times in his debut season in Serie A, while he also bagged a crucial goal in Thursday's Europa League semi-final first-leg defeat at Benfica - his first in continental competition since 2009.

Sabella to view Serie A stars

2ex6dth.jpg

Apr 27, 2014

Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella is due in Italy to view several players ahead of the World Cup, but not Carlos Tevez.

The Coach is expected to fly in to the Peninsula over the next few days and has a few games already on his schedule.

These include the Milan Derby and the Coppa Italia Final between Napoli and Fiorentina on May 3.

Among those he’ll be keeping an eye on are Rodrigo Palacio, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Federico Fernandez, Hugo Campagnaro and Gonzalo Higuain.

There are particular concerns over Higuain, who was stretchered off with a bruised right ankle during Napoli’s 0-0 draw against Inter on Saturday.

However, despite continuing protest marches from fans in Argentina, Sabella has no intention of even watching Tevez in action.

His itinerary in Italy does not include any Juventus fixtures, even with Apache scoring 18 Serie A goals this season.

Tevez: 'Now we celebrate!'

May 4, 2014

Carlos Tevez revealed “incredible tension” in the Juventus camp as they watched Roma lose on television.

The Bianconeri won the title without stepping on to the field, as Roma’s 4-1 defeat in Catania made it mathematically impossible to catch them.

“I was asleep, but only managed 30 minutes, as they were watching the game in the hotel and there was an incredible tension between my teammates,” said the Argentine.

“I was expecting to win it tomorrow on the field against Atalanta. Now we will go celebrate and relax a bit.

“We knew that we had the title after Monday’s win over Sassuolo. That was a huge step for the Scudetto.”

There will be a party atmosphere at the Juventus Stadium on Monday night, as they play Atalanta at 21.00 CET.

Tevez left out of Argentina
provisional World Cup squad

As expected, the striker will not be joining Lionel Messi and Co. in Brazil
this summer, with Jose Sosa and Franco Di Santo two of the more surprising call-ups.

May 13, 2014

Carlos Tevez has been left out of Alejandro Sabella's provisional Argentina World Cup squad.

The Juventus striker had widely been expected to be missing from the party to Brazil, with his impressive form in Italy this season not enough to convince Sabella to bring him back from international exile.

Franco Di Santo and Rodrigo Palacio are both included alongside captain Lionel Messi in the forward positions, while Atletico Madrid loanee Jose Sosa earns a more surprising call-up.

Squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Monaco), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Agustin Orionu (Boca)

Defenders: Ezequiel Garay (Benfica), Federico Fernandez (Napoli), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Marcos Rojo (Sporting), Jose Maria Basanta (Monterrey), Hugo Campagaro (Inter), Nicolas Otamendi (Atletico Mineiro), Martin Demichelis (Manchester City), Gabriel Mercado (River), Lisandro Lopez (Getafe)

How can Argentina not take Tevez to Brazil?

The Juventus striker has been in exceptional form all season but, incredibly,
it has not been enough to persuade Alejandro Sabella to take him to the World Cup.

May 13, 2014

COMMENT
By Kris Voakes | International Football Correspondent

He played no part in Argentina’s World Cup qualifying campaign, yet on Monday a small band of fans gathered in the centre of Buenos Aires to petition for Carlos Tevez’s inclusion in Alejandro Sabella’s squad for the finals tournament in Brazil. They held flags carrying the inscriptions ‘Tevez Seleccion’ and ‘Tevez al Mundial’, and all the while sung songs deifying the Juventus striker.

But their pleas fell on deaf ears.

When the Albiceleste head for their training base near Belo Horizonte, they will do so without the driving force behind Juve’s record-breaking Serie A season, with Sabella announcing on Tuesday that Tevez is not to be a part of his 23-man World Cup panel. Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and Manchester City star Sergio Aguero will don the famous blue and white stripes alongside Lionel Messi this summer, but Tevez will not.

A superb return of 21 goals in all competitions, including 19 in the league as the Bianconeri marched to the verge of 100 points, have seen Tevez’s stock rise once more, yet Sabella has been unwilling to buckle under the weight of public pressure.

"I think the coach of Argentina's national team must not have satellite television hooked up to watch Juventus," Tevez joked recently when asked about his hopes of returning to the national fold. He knew some time ago that the writing was on the wall.

At the age of 30, it would appear that Carlitos’ World Cup career has been ended on the back of a season in which he adapted so quickly to Italian football that, less than two months into the campaign, Juve coach Antonio Conte had to fend off suggestions that the Turin outfit had become a one-man team centred on the qualities of their No.10.

It is fair to say, though, that Tevez hasn’t helped himself over the years.

Time and again, he has spoken publicly about international retirement and the tiresome task that is travelling back and forth for Argentina fixtures. And when he was included in the squad for the 2011 Copa America on the back of a campaign by media, fans and even members of the government, his response was to turn up 6kg overweight, completely underperform and, ultimately, miss the penalty that eliminated the Albiceleste at the quarter-final stage.

Soon after, his club career seemed to be spiralling out of control, with his infamous bust-up with Roberto Mancini resulting in him sitting out of four months of football while at Manchester City. But just as he turned around his fortunes there to become a Premier League champion before moving on to Juve and adding an Italian league title, many were hoping for a similar renaissance in the national shirt.

Yet the man once introduced by the public address announcer in Messi’s home state of Santa Fe as “the player of the people” is clearly not the kind of character Sabella believes can bring the best out of his other squad members.

Tevez’s exile has coincided with the national side’s most convincing qualifying campaign in some years, and the coach is not willing to rock the boat now. Instead, the striker is a held up as a symbol of an Argentina that was underprepared, that underperformed, and that wasn’t ready to win a World Cup.

But when the Albiceleste square up to Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 15, they will do so without arguably their best-performing player of the last 12 months. If they win the World Cup, Alejandro Sabella will forever remain a national hero. But if they don't, he will always be asked about the wisdom of overlooking Tevez.

Palacio in, Tevez out for Argentina

May 13, 2014

As expected, there are several Serie A players in Argentina’s World Cup squad, but no Carlos Tevez.

Alejandro Sabella named his provisional list of 30 players for the tournament in Brazil, which will be cut to 23.

There are eight Italy-based figures in the list, including Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, Inter’s Ricky Alvarez, Hugo Campagnaro and Rodrigo Palacio.

Of the three goalkeepers, two of them play in Serie A, as Mariano Andujar was relegated with Catania and Sergio Romero is owned by Sampdoria.

Despite scoring 19 goals in his debut Serie A campaign, Juventus hitman Tevez is not included.

Argentina World Cup squad

Goalkeepers: Orion, Andujar, Romero

Defenders: Zabaleta, Garay, Fernandez, Rojo, Campagnaro, Basanta, Otamendi, Lisandro Lopez, Mercado, Demichelis

Midfielders: Gago, Mascherano, Di Maria, Banega, Biglia, Maxi, Augusto, Sosa, Enzo Perez, Ricky Alvarez, Rinaudo

Tevez out due to 'group issue'

May 14, 2014

Argentina’s FA President Julio Grondona said Carlos Tevez was left out because of “a group issue.”

The striker scored 19 Serie A goals for Juventus this season and supporters held marches in Buenos Aires to call for his international recall.

However, there was no room for Tevez in the provisional World Cup squad.

“It’s a group issue, one to do with the players,” explained Afa President Grondona.

“There are many players battling for one position in the team. In these situations, it is not positive that they are all there, as at the end you don’t know who is going to play.

“That is when the problems start, as already happened on previous occasions.”

Tevez: Argentina, pull together

May 15, 2014

Carlos Tevez has called on Argentina to group together for the World Cup, and has a word for those saying his international career is over.

The Juventus man was, as expected, left out of Alejandro Sabella’s provisional World Cup squad named this week, continuing an absence from the national side that has lasted for a few years.

However, the assertion from the Argentina Football Association’s President that his omission has been based on a ‘group issue’ drew the player to comment on social media.

“Through this medium I want to thank all the people for the nice things and the affection I have received,” Tevez has written on Twitter.

“We must understand that I have never been a part of this process. In this national team do not look for problems where there are not.

“I ask reporters, journalists, players, technical staff and directors that they are all united. Pull on the same side. We have to give joy to the people and this is the most important thing.

“For those who are under the illusion that my cycle is finished, do not forget that I come from a place where it was said that it was impossible to win.”

Carlos Tévez voted
Juventus' Player of the Season

May 15, 2014

Carlos Tévez taking the No. 10 jersey at Juventus was greeted with mixed emotions. It's a jersey that is held in the highest esteem. It has been worn by some of the greatest players the club and footballing world has ever seen.

Lofty standards would probably be an understatement.

But based on the final outcome, I'd say he lived up to the billing of a No. 10.

And because of it, Tévez has been recognized for his outstanding first season in a Juventus uniform, being voted as the club's Player of the Season by Juventus Members. A surprise? Oh hello no. Other than struggling to find the net in Europe, Tévez has been a simply fantastic form for nearly the entire season. Here's the official announcement from the Juventus website:

Carlos Tevez has been elected by Members as this season's MVP. There were hundreds of votes cast for the Apache, who won over Bianconeri fans from the very start with his goals and sublime play.

Even in his first appearance in a Juventus shirt back in August, Carlos lived up to expectations with his strong performance in the Italian Super Cup against Lazio in Rome.

He took off like a rocket at the beginning of the season and hasn't slowed down since: 21 goals in all (and he's not finished yet), with one in the Super Cup and one in the Europa League. The Argentine striker has played for 3,619 minutes over 47 appearances, providing eight assists.

Yes. There's been a whole lot to like about what Tévez has done this season — especially with his 19 goals in Serie A, the most since the days of Del Piero and Trezeguet. His partnership with Fernando Llorente has not only been one of the best in Italy, but also one of the most productive in all of Europe. Entering the final week of the season, the Beauty and the Best pairing has found the back of the net 34 times.

Not too shabby, eh?

Bnq0cx4IgAAp3ob.jpg
JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
The #JMembers have chosen: their Bianconeri player of the season is @carlitos3210!

That picture is pretty. And if you visit Tévez's WhoScored player page, the numbers are even prettier. There's been assists, ackles, interceptions, plenty of shots on goals and everything in between. Tévez has truly been the kind of striker Juve had been searching for since Antonio Conte took over as manager.

Let's just hope that next season is just as good. Oh, and that there's a couple goals in the Champions League, too. Just a suggestion, Carlitos. Though you probably know that by now.

Reviewing Carlos Tévez's 2013-14 season

May 20, 2014

The summer of 2013 was deemed as the transfer window that Juventus gets its long awaited top striker. The names were out there for everybody to read about. The Italian press hammered those names home like they were a nail on a construction site. To miss a name being linked to Juventus was virtually impossible.

Gonzalo Higuain. Stevan Jovetic. Who would it be? It was like a vicious cycle. The same names over and over again for weeks on end.

But Juventus didn't sign either of those names that vastly populated. Instead, Juventus went a different route. A cheaper route, too. Beppe Marotta went to England for a player who had scored 15 goals combined in the past two EPL seasons with Manchester City and gotten a good amount of attention for what he was doing away from the field rather than on it.

Carlos Tévez had no place in the Man City squad. But when the swift, almost out-of-nowhere move for Tévez was completed, he became the center of Juventus' new-look attack along with fellow summer signee Fernando Llorente. They were brought in to take Juventus to the next level and give the club what they had lacked compared to the last couple of seasons — proven, consistent goal scorers at the striker position.

Two weeks before the season started, we played a game. Something that involved predictions of just how well Carlitos might do in his first season with Juventus. It wasn't difficult, really. Name the amount of goals and assists that Tévez would record. Simple enough.

What I projected for Tévez:

Games played: 33

Goals: 16

Assists: 10

What actually happened:

Games played: 34

Goals: 19

Assists: 7

Nailed it. Well...almost.

Outside of the whole "CARLOS CAN'T SCORE IN EUROPE!!!" narrative that dominated a lot of talking heads throughout Juventus' European roller coaster ride this season, Tévez seemingly could do no wrong. And that's pretty much the truth, too. He was a consistent pest, a consistent threat who spearheaded Juve's attack.

Was there some skepticism that Tévez might not do that well? Yeah, I guess you can say that. You never really know how somebody is going to adapt to Serie A until they actually start playing games. But when he found the back of the net against Sampdoria in Juve's opener, it was the first goal in a season full of them. Nineteen goals in Serie A, to be exact, the third most in all of Italy this season.

Here's the thing I've come to admire about him: Even when he isn't scoring goals, he's busting his ass trying to do so. He is basically the striker that Antonio Conte lacked in his first two years as manager — the energy, the effort, the grinta each and every game. And then when you pair him with somebody like Llorente who compliments Tévez so well, good things are bound to happen.

And good things did happen.

So I guess in hindsight it's not a surprise that Tévez was damn good in his first season with Juventus. Even with a couple extra million euros going over to Man City's bank account after the season, Tévez's price looks like a total bargain. Maybe not a Llorente or Andrea Pirlo kind of bargain, but close enough.

Money well spent, I say. Juve gave him the No. 10, and he proved that he's worthy of it.

Now about those goals in Europe...

Okay, I'll just stop right there.

Tevez is better than Messi and Higuain - wife

The Juventus striker's wife is outraged that Alejandro Sabella overlooked
him and insists he is better than all 23 players who did make the squad.

Jun 14, 2014

Carlos Tevez's wife, Vanesa Mansilla, said it was "totally unfair" that the striker was left out of Argentina's World Cup squad, insisting he is better than Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain.

The Juventus star hasn't been a part of the national team since Alejandro Sabella's appointment as coach and was left out of the squad for the tournament in Brazil.

Mansilla launched a scathing attack on the Argentina squad, insisting Tevez is better than every single one of the 23 man squad, but said she is happy that he gets to go on holiday with the family.

"It 's totally unfair that he was not called up," Mansilla said. "They are without the player of the people.

"Everybody knows that Carlitos is better than the 23 that are in the national team and will play in Brazil.

"On the one hand, however, it is good for us that he is not with the Albiceleste so he can go on holiday with [his children] Florentia, Katie and Lito who enjoy spending time with their dad.

"Now we'll go with the gang to Marbella: he and his friends play a round of golf at the Open Fuerte Apache, there'll be women there and we'll be at the beach with the children."

Tevez warned Juve off Mancini

Jul 23, 2014

There are sensational reports in Italy this afternoon suggesting that Carlos Tevez told Juventus directors not to appoint Roberto Mancini.

Following Antonio Conte’s departure last week, the former Galatasaray boss was one of the leading contenders to take over the Bianconeri.

However, Corriere della Sera have claimed today that the Argentine striker openly warned the leaders at the club that he would force a move should they appoint Mancini.

Tevez worked with the 49-year-old at Manchester City, and infamously fell out with the tactician during a Champions League game with Bayern Munich, when he refused to come off the bench.

The goalscorer has put that behind him however, and has become a fan favourite in Turin with his performances.

After becoming one of the most important members of the squad, the 30-year-old is rumoured to have felt it within his power to go straight to the top and force the champions to swerve away from the ex-Sampdoria striker.

Tevez is reported to have said: “I will pack my bags and leave”, should Mancini have been given the job.

As it was, Massimiliano Allegri was appointed.

Tevez on Conte, Mancini and Juve

Jul 23, 2014

Carlos Tevez insists he “never considered leaving” Juventus and denied warning them against hiring Roberto Mancini.

The striker spoke at a Press conference this afternoon and was asked about the sudden departure of Coach Antonio Conte on the second day of pre-season training.

“We players still have to prove we are playing in a team that won many Scudetti, that we weren’t just counting on the strength and hard work of the Coach,” said Carlitos.

“We need to be stronger and prove we belong at Juve. I never considered leaving. Conte is a champion as a Coach just as we was during his playing career. I think he took this decision before announcing it.”

It had been reported today that Tevez advised Juventus director Beppe Marotta against hiring Mancini as a replacement, so they went for Massimiliano Allegri instead.

“I’ve never spoken to Marotta about this. The club is based on respect and I doubt the thoughts of a player could change anything. Those who write these stories should have more respect.

“I didn’t know Allegri as a Coach, but I think we are working well now. We know the Juventini loved Conte, but we have to focus on training to prepare for Serie A and the Champions League.

“What shape am I in now? I’m 8kg heavier! I’m fine and once all my teammates return we can start to really get this season into focus.”

It has been said that Conte’s departure and the transfer strategies mean Roma and Napoli are favourites for the Scudetto.

“The field will tell us whether that’s true, but one thing is for sure: we are champions of Italy. I also think with the team at our disposal we can play for the Champions League and give this joy to the fans.”

Tevez was frozen out of the Argentina squad for the World Cup, who lost the Final to Germany in extra time.

“We could’ve won the World Cup and everyone in Argentina truly believed that, but Germany played better on the night. We lost because the ball didn’t go in the net for us and it did for them.”

Tevez: Ditching Juventus never on the cards

The Argentine has claimed that it never crossed his mind to leave the Serie A
champions, even after the departure of influential coach Antonio Conte.

Jul 23, 2014

Carlos Tevez has claimed that it was never a possibility he would leave Juventus after the departure of Antonio Conte, who brought the former Manchester City striker to Turin last summer.

The Juve boss' acrimonious resignation this month was reportedly sparked by a lack of intent and imagination in the transfer market, with several senior players also thought to have been left disillusioned with the club.

However, the 30-year-old attacker insists he never thought about asking for a move - despite reports in Italy suggesting he threatened to force for a transfer if Roberto Mancini had been hired - while also claiming the team can succeed without Conte.

"The idea of leaving Juventus never crossed my mind after the departure of Conte. I signed up for three years and I want to finish my contract," he told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport.

"His choice to leave did not disappoint me. We have to show that this team is winners. Conte had a great influence on our victories, but the badge is not just about him."

Conte's replacement, Massimiliano Allegri, has proven to be an unpopular choice among many Bianconeri fans while star midfielder Arturo Vidal continues to be linked away from Turin.

Despite the stream of negativity coming from Juventus at the moment, though, Tevez remains upbeat when questioned about the new coach and his Chilean team-mate.

"I don't know Allegri or how his methods work, but we are training well, which is important," the Argentine added.

"Vidal is a phenomenon and a great champion. I hope that stays here with us, as he simply must not go away from Juve."

Tevez was an integral member of the playing staff as he helped Juventus and Antonio Conte on their way to a third consecutive Serie A title last season.
