Maurizio Sarri has been greeted by an offensive banner placed from the main Napoli ultras groups, accusing him of bowing down to Juventus.

It kicks off at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.

This is the first time the coach has returned to the Stadio San Paolo as an opponent and many expect a hostile reception for the former hero.

“If they do jeer me, it’ll be a sign of love,” said the coach in his press conference.

However, the banner placed on the gates of the Stadio San Paolo overnight by the Curva A group seem to leave little room for interpretation.

‘Sarri you Gobbo bastard, you said so much about Juve, but then dropped your pants!!’

Gobbo is an insulting term used towards Juventus figures.

Line-ups: Napoli v Juventus

Jan 26, 2020

Napoli have Alex Meret back in goal and start Diego Demme for injured Allan, while Juventus start Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala.

It kicks off at 19.45 GMT.

The Bianconeri have the chance to open up their lead at the top of the table even more, as Inter were held to their third consecutive 1-1 draw today.

Mattia De Sciglio and Emre Can were left behind, as they are awaiting transfers, while Danilo, Merih Demiral, Giorgio Chiellini and Sami Khedira are injured.

Matthijs de Ligt therefore steps into defence again, with Rodrigo Bentancur back in midfield after his three-match Serie A ban.

It’s Adrien Rabiot who makes way for Blaise Matuidi, but it was assumed Aaron Ramsey would be the trequartista in support of Dybala and Ronaldo.

Instead, Juve throw caution to the wind with the all-star trio of Dybala, Higuain and Ronaldo together.

This is the first time Maurizio Sarri has faced Napoli since leaving the club, as when Juve won 4-3 in Turin on August 31, the coach was suffering from pneumonia.

He is likely to receive a very frosty reception, if insulting banners placed around the city are anything to go by, accusing him of betraying their cause by joining the arch-rivals.

Napoli are struggling badly this season, with new boss Gennaro Gattuso losing three of his four Serie A games in charge, although there was a midweek boost when eliminating Lazio from the Coppa Italia.

Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, Allan, Faouzi Ghoulam, Kevin Malcuit and Amin Younes are injured, with David Ospina also ruled out earlier today by flu symptoms.

It means Meret returns to the gloves for the first time since the defeat to Inter, as Gattuso preferred Ospina for his ability to play it out from the back.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo is again preferred as a makeshift centre-back to Sebastiano Luperto, with Demme starting in midfield, but Stanislav Lobotka initially benched.

As usual, the front three are Jose Callejon, Arkadiusz Milik and Lorenzo Insigne.

Napoli: Meret; Hysaj, Manolas, Di Lorenzo, Mario Rui; Fabian Ruiz, Demme, Zielinski; Callejon, Milik, Insigne

Napoli bench: Karnezis, Daniele, Luperto, Maksimovic, Elmas, Lobotka, Llorente, Lozano, Leandrinho

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Bentancur, Pjanic, Matuidi; Dybala, Higuain, Ronaldo

Juventus bench: Pinsoglio, Buffon, Ramsey, Douglas Costa, Rugani, Rabiot, Bernardeschi, Coccolo

Napoli and Juventus have successfully neutralised each other during the first half at the San Paolo, with defenders making crucial blocks.

The Bianconeri had the opportunity go six points clear at the top, as Inter and Lazio were held to draws today. It was Maurizio Sarri’s first time back at the Stadio San Paolo and he was greeted by loud jeers and insulting banners.

Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, Allan, Faouzi Ghoulam, Kevin Malcuit and Amin Younes were injured, with David Ospina pulling out after flu symptoms, so Diego Demme started. Rodrigo Bentancur returned from his three-match ban, though Merih Demiral, Mattia De Sciglio, Sami Khedira and Giorgio Chiellini missed out. Sarri threw caution to the wind by starting the all-star trio of Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain.

It was an aggressive start from the hosts, Arkadiusz Milik’s header over from a corner, then Jose Callejon only glanced a Lorenzo Insigne cross into the arms of Wojciech Szczesny.

Milik twice ran on to promising balls over the top, only for Leonardo Bonucci to read his movements and block the shot.

Mario Rui also read the pass for Dybala, getting in front to ensure La Joya ran into him rather than go clear on goal.

Napoli stun Sarri's Juventus

Napoli made it a nightmare return for Maurizio Sarri, as they beat leaders Juventus 2-1 with Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne goals.

Pjanic had been limping since a Demme yellow card offence in the first half and eventually had to come off, replaced by Adrien Rabiot.

Juventus had an actual shot on target on 53 minutes, but it didn’t count, as Higuain was offside in the build-up before Dybala hit the upright and Ronaldo turned in the rebound.

Piotr Zielinski fired not far over first time from the D and Meret made his first save of the game on the hour mark, smothering Higuain’s weak attempt after a Ronaldo counter.

The deadlock was finally broken moments later. Insigne’s scorching strike from outside the area was only parried by Szczesny into the path of Zielinski, as Cuadrado was caught napping on the rebound.

Napoli had penalty appeals for handball, but it seemed to graze Cuadrado’s hand during an awkward rebound with his arm down in a natural position, so could not be called intentional.

Sarri made radical changes, throwing on Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi for Dybala and Blaise Matuidi. Insigne attempted an audacious over-head kick, while Mario Rui got away with a very risky header back to Meret.

Insigne tried another tough volley on 86 minutes and this time it worked, as Callejon’s cross found him from 12 yards out, he volleyed it into the ground to bounce up at the back post, perhaps also glancing off Matthijs de Ligt.

However, just as the San Paolo crowd was singing at full voice, Ronaldo flicked in a long Bentancur ball at the far post from point-blank range to silence them. It was his eighth consecutive Serie A match on target.

Juve poured forward to the final second, Higuain’s overhead kick on target, but too central, allowing Meret to smother.

Napoli: Meret; Hysaj, Manolas, Di Lorenzo, Mario Rui; Fabian Ruiz, Demme (Lobotka 69), Zielinski (Elmas 81); Callejon, Milik (Llorente 89), Insigne

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Bentancur, Pjanic (Rabiot 50), Matuidi (Douglas Costa 73); Dybala (Bernardeschi 73); Higuain, Ronaldo

Sarri: 'Juventus bland and passive'

da27a5b5c5510d853d2ec077570bba6b-61710-1

https://www.football-italia.net/149308/sarri-juventus-bland-and-passive

Jan 26, 2020

Maurizio Sarri felt let down by the “passive and extremely bland” Juventus attitude, but confessed if he had to lose to anyone, he’s “glad it was Napoli.”

The Bianconeri had lost only two competitive matches under Sarri, both against Lazio in Serie A and the Italian Supercup, so defeat against a side coming off three consecutive league defeats was unexpected.

It was also Sarri’s first time facing Napoli since leaving the club, as during the 4-3 result in Turin on August 31, he was at home suffering from pneumonia.

“We were passive for the entire match, thought we could play with a slow tempo, taking five touches, always distant between areas, extremely bland,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia after a 2-1 defeat.

“It was a bad game, we had the wrong approach, intensity and psychological interpretation, which was followed by physical interpretation. This cannot be us, evidently.

“We put Napoli into a situation where they only had to do the bare minimum to beat us. We were always late to every ball. It was as if we were in slow motion and nothing worked, it was all through the team.”

The Bianconeri surprisingly created practically nothing, despite starting with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain together.

“I chose this trio because they all seemed to be in good shape, the midfield appeared balanced enough to sustain them, but I don’t see any individuals to blame for this. The whole team was bland.”

Sarri was asked if Juventus miss a leader like Giorgio Chiellini, who has been out since pre-season with a torn ACL.

“Chiellini brings a certain mentality to games and situations, so would certainly raise the aggression level. We really do give off the impression at times that we are passive in our final third. For example, in the Coppa Italia Roma scored because we were passive, allowing a player to run undisturbed from midfield to shoot from the edge of the box.

“When I saw what was happening, I tried to introduce Douglas Costa as a proper winger, trying to give some width to the team. That was the idea, anyway, but it made little difference.”

The only other defeat Juventus suffered in Serie A this season was 3-1 away to Lazio, so were there similarities?

“Just as against Lazio, we had a lack of mental energy. When you aren’t fired up, this sparks a chain reaction with tactical and technical problems, but it all stems from there.”

Sarri was asked if it hurt in particular to lose at the Stadio San Paolo, but he gave a surprising answer.

“I am happy for the lads, as I will always be fond of them. If you have to lose, I guess I’d rather it be here to help Napoli get out of their current problems. I’d rather they started winning next week, of course…”

The Napoli ultras did not seem to feel the same way, as there were insulting banners and chants for the coach.

“Clearly, the game takes over and you have to detach yourself from everything around that. Napoli represented a special moment in my life and it’s always pleasing and emotional to be back here.”

Juve had the chance to go six points clear at the top of the table, as both Inter and Cagliari were held to 1-1 draws, but instead their lead has been cut to three points. Did they feel complacent?

“We should’ve felt more motivated to break away rather than less, otherwise this’ll mean we’re weak. I would hope not. If that situation weighed on us, even unconsciously, it means we aren’t ready yet.”

Sarri: 'My words after Napoli-Juve were exploited.

On the trident and Emre Can...'

Feb 1, 2020

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri spoke at his regular press conference today ahead of the match against Fiorentina. A crucial challenge for the Bianconeri who have a three-point advantage over Inter in the Serie A standings and five over Lazio who, however, have a game in hand and can thus make the difference just two points.

"I don't know much about the controversies. It seems strange to me to use the obvious phrase like the one I said. It is clear that those who you work with for three years remain in your heart, as they are those who allowed you to get to Chelsea and then to the top here at Juve," he said.

"There was some escalation but the fans should be angry because we performed very badly and took home a very bad result. In this club, losing is already bad but if you lose and play badly it is even worse."

The former Napoli went on to speak about the need of the Bianconeri to improve and spoke about the current situation of the team across all competitions. He also looked ahead and spoke about the team's next opponent - Fiorentina.

"We must improve for sure. It is not easy when it comes to more psychological than physical or tactical reactions. Numbers? They shouldn't worry us but think about it. The course is good, something less well in the league but better in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

"We all have a feeling that something better can be done, there is no doubt. There are no worrying data, but games. We arrived at the end of a cycle of six games, maybe it's a coincidence but we are starting to monitor it.

"Fiorentina? They defend with intensity. They have players with good feet, they are a dangerous team. The results of last games prove it. We have to play the ball quickly."

Sarri later spoke about his possible legacy at Juventus as well as the trident of Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala. He also addressed the situations of Miralem Pjanic and Gianluigi Buffon.

"I would like to be remembered for some victories, even if Juve is used to winning and so being remembered for the victories is not easy."

"The trident? With Lazio and Napoli they were tactically difficult games, we are aware of not being mentally in the best condition in those matches. With Roma, we had the best physical performance of the season. We have to work on our mental condition, it affects everything.

"Pjanic? He only has a big bruise. He is available. Buffon? I don't know when but from here to the end of the league he will play more than one game, he will do what he needs for all the records he needs."

Finally, the Juventus coach spoke about the team's midfield, the departure of Emre Can, about Douglas Costa as well as the transfer market which ended yesterday.

"The midfield? It depends on the games. In some it is crucial to play Matuidi, in others Rabiot can play. Emre Can? It is a normal situation. I arrived at Juventus and there were 27 players, I didn't ask for anything. If someone doesn't fit, it's normal. This doesn't affect the qualities of  Emre Can who can be fundamental in other systems.

"The market? I'm not interested in what happens on paper. I haven't asked for anything in this market either, the squad is strong. I have to be the one trying to adapt to these players and make them perform at their best.

"Douglas Costa is an important player, he can really shift the balance if he reaches two months of optimal condition. He is an option always to be considered," Sarri concluded.

JUVENTUS VS FIORENTINA PREVIEW: PROBABLE LINEUPS, PREDICTION

Juventus will be keen on keeping hold of their three-point lead over Inter Milan at the top when they play hosts to Fiorentina on Sunday.

Feb 1, 2020

Juventus have enjoyed a bright start to 2020, winning all but one of their six matches in all competitions. However, the only time they failed to secure a win was last weekend against Napoli. In fact, the Old Lady slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Naples rivals, allowing second-placed Inter Milan to close the gap at the top.

The Bianconeri simply cannot afford a similar result this time around, when they host Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Juventus currently have a three-point lead over Inter but their inferior goal difference means they could run the risk of being overtaken, should they lose against Fiorentina.

The Viola, however, are coming on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Inter in the quarter-final of Coppa Italia. But, that was their only defeat since the turn of the year, with the club having won three of their six matches in all competitions so far in 2020.

That being said, Fiorentina are still languishing at the wrong end of the table, with just 25 points on the board. Hence, securing at least a point against Juventus could be critical as they aim to turn their fortunes during the second half of the campaign.

And here, at the Hard Tackle, we will run the rule over the two sides ahead of their highly-anticipated Serie A encounter on Sunday.

Tactics & Team News

Juventus

Maurizio Sarri has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Miralem Pjanic is available despite suffering a bruise. He could, therefore, retain his place at the base of Juventus’ 4-3-1-2, where he will be partnered by Rodrigo Bentancur and Blaise Matuidi.

In defence, however, Sarri is facing an injury crisis, with players like Mattia de Sciglio and Danilo out injured. It should pave the way for Juan Cuadrado at right-back while Alex Sandro is a guaranteed starter on the opposite flank, mainly due to lack of viable alternatives.

In central defence, both Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral have been ruled out with injuries. That means Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt are set to continue at the heart of Juventus’ four-man backline.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey is tipped to return to the side after being left out in the last game. The Welshman is likely to replace Paulo Dybala in the number ten slot, where he will be tasked with the responsibility of providing the creative essence in the final third.

And finally, the Juventus attack will be led by the offensive duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain. These two players will be keen on returning to scoring form following a disappointing game against Napoli.

Probable Lineup (4-3-1-2): Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, de Ligt, Sandro; Bentancur, Pjanic, Matuidi; Ramsey; Higuain, Ronaldo

6238430539284480.png

Fiorentina

Unlike Sarri, Fiorentina manager Giuseppe Iachini is not facing an injury crisis. However, he will miss out on the services of Martin Caceres and Nikola Milenkovic due to suspension. Igor is the likely alternative, especially following the loan departure of Luca Ranieri.

The young Brazilian is set to partner Federico Ceccherini and club captain German Pezzella, thus forming the three-man Fiorentina backline. They will be supported by the two wing-backs in Pol Lirola and Dalbert, both of whom are expected to operate in a deeper role given the quality of the Juventus attack.

Moving forward, both Gaetano Gastrovilli and Alfred Duncan have been ruled out due to injury, which means Milan Badelj could once again start in holding midfield. He is likely to be partnered by Marco Benassi and Erick Pulgar in the second line of press.

Meanwhile, the Fiorentina attack is likely to be led by Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic, although new signing Patrick Cutrone has been included in the squad for the trip to Turin.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Dragowski; Ceccherini, Pezzella, Igor; Lirola, Pulgar, Badelj, Benassi, Dalbert; Vlahovic, Chiesa

Key Stats

  • Fiorentina have lost more games and conceded more goals against Juventus in Serie A than against any other side.
  • Juventus have found the net in each of their last 33 home league meetings against Fiorentina. It’s the longest current such streak for a side against a single opponent in Serie A history.
  • Victory would see Juventus become the first side to reach 1600 Serie A wins.
  • 15 of the last 16 times Juventus have suffered a league defeat, they won their next Serie A match. The last time the Bianconeri lost two games in a row in the top flight was in August 2015.
  • Juventus have only failed to score in one of their 30 games in all competitions under Maurizio Sarri and that came in the reverse fixture against Fiorentina earlier in the season.

Player to Watch

Aaron Ramsey

TURIN, ITALY - JANUARY 19: Aaron Ramsey of Juventus FC looks on during the Serie A match between Juventus and Parma Calcio at Allianz Stadium on January 19, 2020 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images)

After being left out on the bench in the last game, this could be an excellent opportunity for Ramsey to make an impact. His work-rate, combined with his ability to link-up with teammates in the final third could be useful against Fiorentina, who are the only side to prevent Juventus from scoring this season.

Moreover, Ramsey will also have a point to prove, after notching up only 11 league appearances this season, though he has had to contend with injuries. Nevertheless, it could be imperative for Fiorentina defenders to keep a close watch on the Welshman, who is more than capable of providing the supply that will allow the likes of Ronaldo and Higuain to make a difference this weekend.

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Fiorentina

Juventus have performed really well at home, especially in Serie A. And given their mighty attack, we expect them to dominate the game and secure a relatively easy win against a Fiorentina side, who are not having the best of times, of late.

Juventus welcome Fiorentina to the Allianz Stadium for their Round 22 Serie A clash on Sunday afternoon.

Goals should be expected as Juventus have found the net in each of their last 33 home Serie A meetings against Fiorentina, with La Viola losing games (77) and conceded more goals (263) against Juventus in the top flight than against any other side.

Victory would see Juventus become the first side to reach 1,600 Serie A wins, and given they lost their last match against Lazio, you have to go back to August 2015 to find the last time the Bianconeri lost two consecutive league matches.

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, de Ligt, Alex Sandro; Pjanic, Bentancur, Rabiot; Douglas Costa, Higuain, Ronaldo

Fiorentina: Dragowski; Lirola, Ceccherini, Pezzella, Igor; Ghezzal, Benassi, Pulgar, Dalbert; Chiesa, Cutrone

SARRI: I DON'T KNOW WHY COMMISSO IS ANGRY, AND I DON'T CARE

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor sarri conferenza dopo juventus-fiorentina

Following Juventus’ win over Fiorentina, Bianconeri coach Maurizio Sarri was unable to understand why Viola president Rocco Commisso was so angry with the result.

Two penalties from Cristiano Ronaldo helped Juventus to a 3-0 win over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, with both given following VAR review.

When asked about Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso’s comments regarding the referees, Sarri was clear in his assessment of the game.

“I looked at the stats,” Sarri told the press. “ We were better in possession and in territory. So, for me the result seems to follow on from that.

“I don’t know [why he was so angry] and I don’t care. I only saw the stats which were in our favour.”

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in his ninth successive Serie A game, as well as getting his 50th goal for Juventus, and Sarri believes he is back to his best.

“The knee problem didn’t allow him to train at his best,” Sarri continued. “He then had specific training.

“He is explosive, and therefore I think it is right that he trains in that way.

“We have to give him the right conditions to score, and in a match like today, having Douglas Costa in the side added some balance in the defensive phase.”

Douglas Costa made his first start for Juventus in since their away match against Fiorentina in September and Sarri was happy with his contribution.

“When preparing for the game, we thought that given they defend wide, we could use a solution there,” Sarri went on.

“It is clear that leaving [Paulo] Dybala out is heresy, as we saw at the end of the game.

“Nevertheless, Douglas gave us a lot of balance.”

HELLAS VERONA VS JUVENTUS PREVIEW: PROBABLE LINEUPS

Juventus will be keen on maintaining their three-point lead at the top when they visit Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi to face Hellas Verona on Saturday.

With Inter set to play AC Milan in the derby this weekend, Juventus will be keen on extending their three-point lead at the top of Serie A table when they face Hellas Verona on Saturday. The Bianconeri are coming on the back of a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fiorentina last weekend, though their last away game ended in a 2-1 defeat, at the hands of Napoli.

It would, therefore, be imperative for Juve to return to winning ways, away from home, knowing a draw or defeat against Hellas Verona could allow Inter to possibly regain the top spot in the league table.

It has been a very eventful first half at the Bentegodi, as Hellas Verona had a goal disallowed, but Juventus hit the woodwork twice.

Hellas were unbeaten in seven rounds, but tired from Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 17 fixture against Lazio, holding out for a 0-0 draw at the Olimpico.

Sofyan Amrabat returned from suspension and Fabio Borini took an attacking role, while Juve opted for 4-3-3 with Douglas Costa, but Giorgio Chiellini, Merih Demiral, Danilo, Federico Bernardeschi and Sami Khedira missed out.

Sarri: 'Superficial Juventus must change'

Feb 8, 2020

Maurizio Sarri confessed Juventus “have a problem we absolutely need to resolve, as we keep throwing points away with a superficial attitude” after defeat to Hellas Verona.

The Bianconeri suffered their third Serie A defeat of the season after Lazio and Napoli, but above all had taken the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo only to fall apart in 10 minutes.

Sarri: 'Juve pressure normal'

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri says that if he didn’t want to feel pressure, he “would’ve taken a job at the post office” in the wake of recent league defeats.

The Bianconeri have lost their last two away games in a row, and speculation is mounting that the club will either bring back former coach Max Allegri or attempt to hire Pep Guardiola in the summer.

Sarri however says the pressure of the job comes with the territory.

“If I didn’t want to face examinations I would’ve taken a job at the post office. This is the job,” Sarri said in his press conference ahead of the Coppa Italia semi final first leg against Milan. ......

San Siro presents another giant duel, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo prepare for battle when Milan host Juventus in the Coppa Italia tonight.

Kick off at 19:45 GMT

The Rossoneri might move away from their recent strategy but keep Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a lone striker and return to a 4-2-3-1. .....

Aaron Ramsey could start behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala in Bianconeri’s 4-3-1-2, shoving Gonzalo Higuain to the bench against his former club.

Juventus need a good result from San Siro, as the pressure piles on Sarri after the recent return in Serie A. .....

Milan rely on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ante Rebic and Hakan Calhanoglu against Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Juan Cuadrado trident in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

The first leg kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT, with the return in Turin on March 4.

Juventus made the trip without Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi, Sami Khedira, Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral.

Former Milan flop Gonzalo Higuain is benched along with Adrien Rabiot and Rodrigo Bentancur, but the changes are not so much personnel as roles.

Juan Cuadrado goes from right-back to his traditional position on the right side of the trident attack with Dybala and Ronaldo, while Aaron Ramsey shifts back from trequartista to midfielder.
