Juventus 3-0 Crotone: Ronaldo brace in Turin

Feb 22, 2021

Juventus secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Crotone on Monday, as Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first-half brace before Weston McKennie added the third.

The champions were looking to turn things around as bottom-placed Crotone visited the Allianz Stadium on Monday.

Juventus had won their last six Serie A fixtures played on a Monday but the visitors had the first big chance when Danilo slipped at the far post and gave Reca an opportunity, but he missed it wide. ...........

Cristiano had a chance halfway from a free kick just outside the area, but the finish was blocked by his teammate Weston McKennie in the wall.

The Portuguese then missed a tap-in at the far post, as Federico Chiesa did well to find him with a cross but the ball took a small deflection on its way and put off Ronaldo.

After 38 minutes, he finally finds the net, as Alex Sandro finds him unmarked at the far post and this time he makes no mistakes with a great header across the goal and in behind Alex Cordaz.

He then almost created the second by himself testing the goalkeeper with a long-range effort, the ball ended up with Ramsey at left and the former Arsenal man found Ronaldo with the cross.

Ronaldo leapt and a powerful header found the back of the net for a second time.

Juventus arrived time after time and seemed comfortable in both phases of the game, eventually finding the net for the third time through McKennie.

A Chiesa corner to the far post was headed down by Matthijs de Ligt, who then called for a handball. But the ball ended up with McKennie, who let it bounce once before the American smashed it into the back of the net. ........

Pirlo: 'Juventus will fight until the end'

FOTO - Juve-Crotone 3-0: Pirlo sorride, il Crotone si arrende: le immagini più belle della sfida - TUTTOmercatoWEB.com

Feb 22, 2021

Juventus continued with a 3-0 win over Crotone and coach Andrea Pirlo warned Inter that the Bianconeri will ‘fight until the end’.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace before Weston McKennie completed the scoreline for the Old Lady, who comfortably picked up three points at the Allianz Stadium.

But Pirlo felt his men started the match ‘a bit nervous’ and were helped by the goals before the break.

“We started a bit nervous, maybe the last defeats had made us nervous,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia. “Then the goals helped us and gave us peace of mind.

“The rest we managed well. The start was not the best, the important thing was to bring home the three points.”

Juventus are still struggling with injuries and was asked how many he will recover for the return leg against Porto in the Champions League.

“I don’t know [how many]. On Saturday we have Verona and we will also be without Danilo, who is suspended. We must study to field the best players.” ...........

Agent hopes Fagioli follows in Del Piero’s footsteps

La Juventus scopre Fagioli: senza Arthur può diventare utile nelle rotazioni | Goal.com

Feb 24, 2021

Nicolò Fagioli’s agent Andrea D’Amico hopes the Juventus starlet follows in Alessandro Del Piero’s footsteps without being sold like Moise Kean or Sebastian Giovinco.

Fagioli, 20, made his Serie a debut against Crotone on Monday.

“It was a special moment for Nicolò. We are happy because we trust Juventus and the club have been perfect,” his agent Andrea D’Amico told Tuttosport.

“The directors have had clear ideas about him. They had planned to include him gradually in the first team. We’ve shared every step with the club,” he continued.

“Juventus opted to keep him in Turin where he developed in their second team that play in Serie C, Italy’s third division. He’s never been on the market and he’s benefited from playing in Serie C.

“In Nicolò, I can see similar behaviour to Del Piero. He has the serenity and class that brought Del Piero to winning everything. Fagioli is only 20, but this can be the beginning of great history.” ..........

Pirlo: 'Juventus must continue to believe'

Juventus-Roma, Pirlo: "Siamo migliorati sotto l'aspetto mentale. Roma attrezzata per lo scudetto" | StadioSport.it

Feb 26, 2021

Andrea Pirlo admitted Juventus have ‘lacked energy’ due to the tough fixture list and ‘few players’ available, but stressed the Old Lady still target the Scudetto. ‘It remains our goal’.

Pirlo expects another tough battel for the points when Juventus travel to the Bentegodi to face Ivan Juric’s Hellas Verona on Saturday.

“It will be a very difficult and physical game,” Pirlo said at a press conference. “Juric plays very good football, made up of many one-on-one situations.

“We must be careful with their runs and play.

“They are doing well and then they have added players in the transfer market compared to the first leg. Therefore, a tough challenge awaits us.

“We can’t be surprised by their physical approach, knowing they play a similar style to Atalanta.

“We must be careful and know how to play for each other with quick exchanges and attack the space.” ...........

Juventus have a massive injury crisis on their hands, forcing Alex Sandro into a back three with Dejan Kulusevski partnering Cristiano Ronaldo in Verona.

Andrea Pirlo has precious few options to choose from at the moment, as Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, Arthur and Paulo Dybala are injured.

Alvaro Morata has not trained all week due to a viral infection, plus Danilo is suspended.

The Bianconeri therefore return to a 3-5-2 formation with Alex Sandro improvising as a centre-back, Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi taking the wings.

Kulusevski is the only real remaining option to partner Ronaldo, but Weston McKennie is rested in favour of Aaron Ramsey behind the strikers. ...........

Verona: Silvestri; Magnani, Gunter, Lovato; Faraoni, Sturaro, Ilic, Dimarco; Barak, Zaccagni; Lasagna

Juventus: Szczesny; Demiral, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Chiesa, Bentancur, Rabiot, Bernardeschi; Ramsey; Kulusevski, Ronaldo

HT 0-0: Verona keep Juventus quiet

Feb 27, 2021

Wojciech Szczesny had to fingertip a header onto the upright, while Federico Chiesa forced a tough save at the other end, but Verona and Juventus are all-square at half-time.

The Bianconeri missed Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, Arthur and Paulo Dybala, while Alvaro Morata hadn’t trained all week due to a viral infection and Danilo was suspended. Hellas were still without Nikola Kalinic, Ebrima Colley, Marco Benassi and Kevin Ruegg, but Federico Dimarco returned from suspension. It was announced this morning that Verona had a COVID case in their matchday squad, most likely a member of staff, but all other tests were negative.

Juve had lost two of their last three trips to the Bentegodi, but started strong, as within 90 seconds Aaron Ramsey’s strike had been fingertipped round the near post.

Verona did the same, as Marco Davide Faraoni’s header on Mattia Zaccagni’s corner was fingertipped onto the upright by Wojciech Szczesny from close range. ..............

Verona 1-1 Juventus: Barak blocks Bianconeri

Immagine

Feb 27, 2021

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal created by Federico Chiesa was not enough, as Antonin Barak grabbed an equaliser after Hellas Verona hit the woodwork twice.

Juve had lost two of their last three trips to the Bentegodi, but started strong, as within 90 seconds Aaron Ramsey’s strike had been fingertipped round the near post. ............

Juve found the breakthrough at the dawn of the second half, as Chiesa ran onto a Ramsey through ball, drew defenders towards him by pretending to shoot, but instead rolled across for unmarked Cristiano Ronaldo to sweep in, despite Silvestri getting a hand to it.

Verona were piling on the pressure and it paid off, as Merih Demiral tried playing it out from the back, but Veloso shrugged off a challenge and Darko Lazovic floated in a cross from the left for Antonin Barak to out-jump Alex Sandro on the header.

Pirlo blames lack of Juve 'experience'

Verona-Juventus, furia sui social | Tifosi contro Pirlo e la dirigenza

Feb 27, 2021

Andrea Pirlo blamed a lack of experience for Juventus fumbling the lead in a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona. ‘They press you all over the pitch.’

The Bianconeri dropped points again and now risk falling a long way off leaders Inter, as Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener was cancelled out by an Antonin Barak header.

Juve started very aggressively, but seemed to run out of steam as the game wore on, and Wojciech Szczesny fingertipped two efforts onto the woodwork.

“It’s disappointing, as we knew it would be a difficult and hard-fought game. We managed to take the lead, which was the most difficult part, then didn’t keep hold of it,” Pirlo told DAZN.

“There are these small details that unfortunately young players don’t understand can make the difference and lead to points.

“When you are in front, you must try to bring these games home. We were missing a lot of experienced players, so the younger elements didn’t understand the way the match was going. I asked Cristiano and Alex Sandro to speak to them and make their voices heard, but it wasn’t enough.”

Missing so many defenders and using Alex Sandro as a centre-back, did Pirlo think about moving to a four-man defence?

“I thought about moving to four at the back, but I looked to the bench and didn’t really have the options to change. I saw some players who were starting to get tired after the hour mark, but that was to be expected. .................

Orsato admits Pjanic mistake

EvVN67FWYAYgUQg.jpg

Feb 28, 2021

Daniele Orsato admitted he was wrong not to show Miralem Pjanic a second yellow card during Inter-Juventus in 2018 and revealed what Cristiano Ronaldo told him when he checked his watch in Juve-Roma earlier in February.

Orsato was a guest on Italian television to discuss his decisions. He had overseen Spezia-Parma during the weekend.

It was is 240th game in Serie A, just as many as Pierluigi Collina.

"The AIA President gave a great opportunity to us and the media. The AIA backs this possibility, and we all must make the most of it," he told Novantesimo Minuto.

"This must be an opportunity and not a space to create controversy. Otherwise, we'll go nowhere.

"We all make mistakes, and we've always admitted it. We can only improve by working on them," he added. .................

Cristiano Ronaldo is again supported by Dejan Kulusevski and Federico Chiesa, but Spezia have top scorer M’Bala Nzola back in the starting XI.

Juve’s Scudetto hopes are hanging by a thread following the 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona, leaving them 10 points adrift of leaders Inter, albeit with a game in hand.

Danilo returns from suspension, but Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and Arthur are still out of action.

Alvaro Morata is only fit for the bench after barely training all week due to a viral infection.

However, this time it looks more like a 4-4-2 formation with Dejan Kulusevski and Cristiano Ronaldo upfront, Alex Sandro at left-back, Chiesa and Weston McKennie on the wings. .................

Cristiano Ronaldo thumped the woodwork, but Juventus have struggled in the first half against an aggressive Spezia side.

The Bianconeri were feeling tense after the 1-1 draw at Verona, which saw them slide 10 points behind leaders Inter, albeit with a game in hand. Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, Arthur and Paulo Dybala were already out of action, then Matthijs de Ligt pulled out in the warm-up, making way for Gianluca Frabotta. Spezia missed Riccardo Saponara, Tommaso Pobega and Federico Mattiello, but M’Bala Nzola had his first start since January 11. .................

Kulusevski hesitated on a Ronaldo through ball, allowing Martin Erlic to charge down the finish. Juventus finally created a truly dangerous opportunity on 41 minutes when Ronaldo’s right-foot angled drive beat Provedel to bounce off the inside of the far post.

Juventus 3-0 Spezia: Bernardeschi booster

Immagine

Mar 2, 2021

Federico Bernardeschi came off the bench and changed the game for Juventus, providing assists for Alvaro Morata and Federico Chiesa before Cristiano Ronaldo’s third on the counter against Spezia.

Federico Chiesa put the ball in the net only after he was flagged a long way offside. Ivan Provedel rushed off his line to get just enough on the ball before Dejan Kulusevski, then on the counter Riccardo Marchizza’s effort was deflected over by Merih Demiral.

There was a period of Spezia pressure, but also Juve chances, Chiesa’s volley charged down at the back post and Claudio Terzi making a decisive interception on the cross for Cristiano Ronaldo. .............

Andrea Pirlo made a double substitution that proved pivotal. Within a couple of minutes of coming on, Federico Bernardeschi had burst down the right and placed a cross to the near post, were Alvaro Morata got in front of Erlic to tap in from a couple of yards. It was initially ruled offside, but VAR confirmed Bernardeschi was level.

Bernardeschi was involved in the second goal too, as he burst down the left, rolled across for Chiesa, whose first shot was wonderfully saved by Provedel from eight yards, but he threw himself at the rebound to fire in.

The visitors poured forward for the final 20 minutes, as Juve tried to defend the two-goal advantage, but this did allow them to be very dangerous on the counter-attack.

That’s precisely what happened in the final minute, as Rodrigo Bentancur won back the ball and sent Ronaldo clear to drill past Provedel.

Deep into stoppages, VAR was used to give Spezia a penalty for Merih Demiral’s challenge on Emmanuel Gyasi. Andrij Galabinov stepped up and his spot-kick was parried by Wojciech Szczesny to keep the clean sheet intact.

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Demiral, Frabotta (Morata 61), Alex Sandro; Chiesa (Ramsey 72), Bentancur, Rabiot, McKennie (Bernardeschi 61); Kulusevski (Di Pardo 88), Ronaldo

Spezia: Provedel; Vignali, Erlic, Terzi, Marchizza (S Bastoni 86); Estevez, Sena (Agoume 86), Maggiore (Acampora 72); Farias (Verde 72), Nzola (Galabinov 72), Gyasi

Pirlo missing Juventus options

Juventus wint zonder geblesseerde De Ligt van Spezia | RTL Nieuws

Mar 2, 2021

Andrea Pirlo wishes he ‘had more’ options to come off the bench and shake things up after his substitutions transformed Juventus against Spezia.

It was a difficult struggle for an hour, much like the 4-1 win back in November, which was transformed by the substitutions.

Federico Bernardeschi immediately provided the assist for Alvaro Morata, then set up Federico Chiesa’s goal, before Cristiano Ronaldo sealed it on the counter-attack.

Spezia had a late penalty, but Wojciech Szczesny parried Andriy Galabinov’s spot-kick.

“A slow start was more physical fatigue than psychological, which can happen when you have so many games with the same players,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“We tried to control the game and then when the fresh legs came on, we were sharper and able to make the most of our chances.

...................

Morata has been struggling with a viral infection that left him feeling debilitated and even faint, but he immediately made a difference off the bench and proved Pirlo’s side need a centre-forward.

“Morata is the player we wanted for his characteristics, as he can attack the space, score goals, but also play with the team. He has been missing lately unfortunately, but hopefully he can quickly get back to full fitness. .........................

Pirlo. 'Juventus fight on all fronts'

Immagine

Mar 5, 2021

Andrea Pirlo said Juventus ‘are fighting on all fronts’ and will ‘give their all’ until the end, starting with another ‘decisive’ game against Lazio.

The Bianconeri arrive from a 3-0 win over Spezia last time and prepare for their second of three consecutive home games this weekend.

“Lazio are a great team that have been playing together for several years,” Pirlo said at a press conference.

“They have a well-defined game, and the results speak for them. We know we’ll face a team that will fight to get to the top.

“We are preparing for the match in the best possible way, knowing their characteristics and we know it won’t be easy.

“All the matches are decisive for Juventus. The present is tomorrow’s match, we will concentrate with all our strength to win and we’ll only think about Porto after that.”

Pirlo confirmed some of the players could recover in time for the match, but he’s forced to cope without Rodrigo Bentancur.

“This morning, some of the unavailable players have partly trained with the team, we still have one day to recover someone,” he revealed.

“It’s a shame that Bentacur is absent, we will have to invent something to put the best line-up on the pitch.”

Pirlo said the few players available gives him no chance to rest Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

“When you play a lot of games, a day or two of rest is good,” Pirlo said. “It also applies to Cristiano.

“Now that we are short up front, he has gritted his teeth and will do it for as long as we need it.

“He has shown and continues to demonstrate his great professionalism.” .........................

Ronaldo in doubt for Lazio game

Immagine

Mar 6, 2021

Cristiano Ronaldo is in the Juventus squad to face Lazio, but there continue to be reports he will be rested ahead of the Porto match.

Sources close to the Bianconeri camp had told Football Italia that Ronaldo was not 100 per cent fit and might even be left out of the squad entirely.

It is now confirmed he is in the group, but coach Andrea Pirlo is still giving serious consideration to leaving him on the bench ahead of the Champions League showdown with FC Porto.

The problem is that there are no other strikers available to start, so he could be forced to play regardless, especially as Ronaldo rarely rests if he can avoid it.

The good news for Pirlo is that Arthur, Juan Cuadrado and Leonardo Bonucci return from injury. .........................

Line-ups: Juventus v Lazio

Juventus have Juan Cuadrado back, but Cristiano Ronaldo is benched in favour of Alvaro Morata, while Lazio are also forced to reshuffle amid injuries.

This is a head-to-head for the top four, although Lazio have some catching up to do after sliding into seventh place, as the Biancocelesti, Napoli and Juve all have a game in hand.

Both sides have to make changes, as Matthijs de Ligt, Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala are still injured, with Leonardo Bonucci not at 100 per cent, while Rodrigo Bentancur has COVID-19.

Cuadrado returns to the starting XI after his injury problems, with Federico Chiesa on the other wing, but the big change is upfront, where Ronaldo is not at his best.

Andrea Pirlo opts to rest CR7 in favour of Morata alongside Dejan Kulusevski.

Gianluca Frabotta sits out a ban, leaving Pirlo with limited options, especially ahead of the Champions League decider with Porto, so Under-23 midfielder Nicolò Fagioli had been suggested to start.

Instead, Federico Bernardeschi goes on the right, with Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot in the centre, resting Weston McKennie. .........................

HT 1-1: Rabiot cancels out Correa opener

Immagine

Mar 6, 2021

A ferocious Adrien Rabiot strike has put Juventus back on level terms after Joaquin Correa had given Lazio the lead in a pulsating game, but there were strong penalty appeals.

Andrea Pirlo pulled some more surprises, as he seemed to place Danilo in midfield for a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Lazio started much stronger and took a deserved lead when Dejan Kulusevski gave it away cheaply, Joaquin Correa surged forward, twisted and turned to eventually drill the finish between Merih Demiral’s legs into the near bottom corner.

Wojciech Szczesny had to get down to push away a Milinkovic-Savic effort, but Juventus had penalty appeals on 26 minutes. It was a fantastic Francesco Acerbi sliding tackle on Federico Chiesa, but the ball ricocheted up and onto Wesley Hoedt’s hand. The referee and VAR waved play on, considering it an unintentional handball.

Aaron Ramsey curled off target and Alvaro Morata nodded a free kick wide, but Juve got their equaliser with a sensational finish from Adrien Rabiot.

He burst down the left, Pepe Reina expected the cross and took one step forward, which opened up just enough of a gap for Rabiot to hit a rocket into the near top corner from an improbable angle. ........

Juventus 3-1 Lazio: Morata comeback

Immagine

Mar 6, 2021

Juventus completed the comeback from an early Joaquin Correa goal to beat Lazio 3-1 with an Adrien Rabiot rocket and Alvaro Morata brace.

He burst down the left, Pepe Reina expected the cross and took one step forward, which opened up just enough of a gap for Rabiot to hit a rocket into the near top corner from an improbable angle.

There were more penalty appeals when Morata went down while trying to turn Marusic, Lazio wasted a counter-attack from that incident, but then Juve countered again with Chiesa breaking away from Gonzalo Escalante and sending Morata clear to fire into the near top corner.

The game turned on its head, as moments after that Milinkovic-Savic foolishly bundled into the back of Ramsey for a penalty. The Welshman wanted to take it, but Cuadrado took the ball out of his hands and Morata converted to complete a brace in three minutes.

Pirlo: 'Juventus started 20 minutes late'

Kan een afbeelding zijn van 1 persoon

Mar 6, 2021

Andrea Pirlo thanked his Juventus players for their ‘professionalism and spirit of sacrifice’ after fighting back to beat Lazio 3-1, even if ‘we started the game 20 minutes late.’

It was a poor start, Joaquin Correa giving Lazio the deserved lead, cancelled out by an Adrien Rabiot scorcher, until Alvaro Morata bagged a brace in three minutes.

“We started badly and conceded with our poor backpass, but then there was a strong reaction from the whole team, despite missing so many players.

“We didn’t let our heads drop, we started to step up the tempo and that was the most important thing,” Pirlo told DAZN.

The Bianconeri transformed their line-up with Cristiano Ronaldo benched, Danilo in midfield for a 4-2-3-1 formation and Federico Bernardeschi at left-back.

“We thought about Tuesday’s game, we have some players who have barely trained, like Cuadrado and Arthur. We knew tonight was like a final, some had to play in new positions and showed great professionalism and spirit of sacrifice.

“The most important thing was the three points. Danilo was ready to work in central midfield, while Bernardeschi deserves all the compliments for playing as a left-back.

“What I liked the most was the reaction of the team, as we didn’t accept being behind in such a delicate and important game, so it was that spirit I appreciated.” .......................

Pirlo: ‘De Ligt out of Porto clash, my future...'

Pirlo & Bonucci press conference ahead of Porto | Juve Canal

Mar 8, 2021

Andrea Pirlo announces that Matthijs de Ligt won’t be available against Porto and is convinced his future does not depend on tomorrow’s game.

The Old Lady host Porto in the decider of the Champions League last 16 stage after their 2-1 defeat in Portugal.

“We need a very technical game. We face a compact team, that play with two tight lines,” Pirlo said at a press conference.

“There will be little time and space to think. We’ll need a lot of technique, we must have the patience to make them run from one part to another.”

Matthijs de Ligt joined the team for this morning’s training session, but won’t be available tomorrow.

“Everyone is feeling quite well.

“De Ligt warmed up with the team this morning but trained separately from the group. The others are all available, not 100 per cent fit, but it’s already a good thing to have them.

“Chiellini is feeling well, I think he will be available tomorrow.

“Arthur could start, hoping he is going to last for a while.”

“McKennie is feeling fine. He still has a little problem [at his hip]. We know he can’t play the whole game and we’ve been trying to manage him in the best way.

“Morata keeps improving because he is ambitious and intelligent. He always tries to find the best solutions, he likes to study his opponents and that’s a very good thing for a player like him.”

What impact does he expect from Cristiano Ronaldo?

“These are Cristiano’s games, he’s always proved it. He followed a special training program these days, he is serene and is looking forward to playing.” ..............................

Alvaro Morata, Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Chiesa lead the way for Juventus, as they must overturn the 2-1 first leg Champions League defeat to FC Porto.

The first leg ended 2-1 for Porto, with Federico Chiesa’s late away goal potentially decisive in this fixture.

There are significant changes to the side that beat Lazio 2-1 on Saturday, because Danilo is suspended, although Rodrigo Bentancur is still out with COVID and Paulo Dybala has that long-running knee injury.

Leonardo Bonucci is back in the starting XI, but Matthijs de Ligt is not at 100 per cent, so Merih Demiral gets the nod rather than Giorgio Chiellini.

The choice in midfield was between Aaron Ramsey and Weston McKennie, while Arthur returns from his muscular issue.

Alvaro Morata partners Cristiano Ronaldo, with Chiesa taking the wide left role.

CR7 is hoping to add to his remarkable record of 135 goals in 175 Champions League games, including 67 strikes in 81 knockout fixtures ..............................
