Juventus – Torino Player Ratings: Cuadrado’s Derby

Late headers give Juventus dramatic derby win over Torino - Eurosport

.

Dec 5, 2020

Juventus hosted Torino in the famous Turin derby, otherwise known as the derby Della Mole. Marco Giampaolo’s men took a surprising early lead through Nicolas Nkoulou as the Bianconeri looked shell-shocked. But luckily for Andrea Pirlo, Juan Cuadrado saved the day with two fabulous assists as his side earned a late 2-1 win. Here are our player ratings for the encounter between Juventus and Torino.

Wojciech Szczęsny – 7

The Polish goalkeeper kept Juventus in the match as he denied a second Torino goal by Simone Zaza, and was on-alert whenever called upon.

Matthijs De Ligt – 6

The former Ajax captain found some trouble containing Belotti’s danger, but his strong challenge on Linetty was crucial to deny another goal for the Granata

Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5

The Juventus captain – along with his fellow defenders – was having a torrid time in the first half, but ended up being the hero of derby as he notched a late winner.

Juan Cuadrado – 7.5

After a forgettable first half, the Colombian wing-back was the catalyst behind the Bianconeri’s come-from-behind victory. Scored a goal that was disallowed for an offside on Bonucci, but then set up his teammates with two identically brilliant crosses for the goals.

Dejan Kulusevski – 5

The young Swedish is not enjoying his best period at the moment, and tonight he failed to infiltrate inside the Torino box when Juventus where in desperate need for a player with his skill-set.

Paulo Dybala – 5

Speaking of Juve players who are having a difficult moment, La Joya once again failed to impress this season. He did set up Chiesa on one occasion, but aside from that his usual brilliant touch was nowhere to be seen.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 6

The Portuguese legend’s impressive scoring run was put to a halt as he suffered in the absence of a true striker like Alvaro Morata beside him, and was well-marked by the Granata defenders all night.

Weston Mckennie – 7

The hard working American was the unlikely scorer for the goal that brought his side back to the match.

Alex Sandro – 6

The Brazilian left-back immediately provided to be an improvement on his compatriot Danilo. ........

According to reports in Italy, Juventus goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio was sent off in the final minutes of Juventus-Torino because he screamed at the referee: ‘Disallow this one too.’

Pinsoglio, Juventus’, third goalkeeper, was sent off after celebrating Leonardo Bonucci’s late winner in the Derby Della Mole.

According to reports in Italy quoted by Alfredo Pedullà, the Italian screamed to the referee Daniele Orsato: "Disallow this one too."

Torino fans furious over Dybala shirt

Cattura-1-750x391.jpg

Dec 6, 2020

Torino youngster Jacopo Segre has apologised after being heavily criticised by Granata fans for taking a picture with Paulo Dybala’s shirt after the defeat in the Derby della Mole. ........

The 23-years-old took a picture with a Juventus shirt Paulo Dybala gave him after the Allianz Stadium clash.

The picture was not shared on social media by the footballer, but it was made public by other people. As a result, the player had to justify his behaviour with an Instagram story.

"I made the mistake of taking a picture with the shirt of Dybala, a simple gift for an Argentine fan," he wrote.

“I was wrong and I wanted to apologise to all the fans and to the whole world of Toro. Jacopo Segre is a Granata inside and he will always be.”

Pirlo: 'Juve have nothing to lose'

Immagine

Dec 7, 2020

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo said Gianluigi Buffon could play against Barcelona and believes the Old Lady can win on Tuesday. ‘We have nothing to lose’.

The Bianconeri are already through to the last-16 of the Champions League when they travel to Barcelona and Pirlo revealed Buffon could be in goal tomorrow.

The Blaugrana have struggled in La Liga but have picked up five wins in five in Europe and Pirlo said he doesn’t believe they’re in a crisis.

“Gigi is better, he has recovered from the injury,” Pirlo said at a press conference. “He could be in the game tomorrow because he deserves such an important stage and could play.

“I don’t believe in the Barcelona crisis; they have a new coach who is putting together his ideas. We know that they’re a great team.”

Juventus need to win against the Blaugrana to fight for the top spot in Group G, having lost 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium against Barca, and Pirlo believes they can pick up three points.

“Yes, we have to believe it. It will be a difficult match and in part, we must suffer,” he added. “We know we will get opportunities and must exploit them.

“We should just play openly; we have nothing to lose. Knowing the mistakes in the first leg, but also the good things we have done.

“We are calm and convinced that anything can happen.” ..........

Dec 8, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo faces Lionel Messi and Barcelona for the first time since joining Juventus, with Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann in this head-to-head for top spot.

Both clubs have already qualified for the Champions League Round of 16, so this is purely to decide who wins the group.

Barca have 15 points and Juventus 12, so as the Blaugrana won 2-0 in Turin – a game where Ronaldo was out of action due to COVID – then it all goes down to head-to-head record.

In order to go top, Juve have won win by three clear goals or by any two-goal margin other than 2-0.

Ronaldo is raring to go in his first game against Barcelona and old rival Messi since joining Juventus, and he is supported by on-form Morata.

Arthur faces his former club, but Juan Cuadrado and Aaron Ramsey are used as the wingers, with Danilo and Alex Sandro as full-backs.

Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral are out injured, but Gigi Buffon returns in goal following a muscular issue. .........

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Dest, Lenglet, Araujo, Jordi Alba; De Jong, Pjanic; Trincao, Griezmann, Pedri; Messi

Barcelona bench: Neto, Inaki Pena, Busquets, Alena, Braithwaite, Ricard Puig, Coutinho, Matheus Fernandes, Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Mingueza, De La Fuente

Juventus: Buffon; Danilo, Bonucci, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Cuadrado, Arthur, McKennie, Ramsey; Morata, Cristiano Ronaldo

HT 0-2: Juventus dominating in Barcelona

Immagine

Dec 8, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty and a spectacular Weston McKennie volley have given Juventus the 2-0 half-time lead away to Barcelona.

Ronaldo tested Marc-Andre Ter Stegen early on and Danilo blasted wide, but Ronald Araujo got into a tangle when trying to tackle CR7 in the area and gave away a penalty. Ronaldo fired it quite central, counting on Ter Stegen picking a side first, putting Juventus into the lead.

The Bianconeri were buoyant and doubled their lead with an excellent team move. Weston McKennie spread the play down the right for Juan Cuadrado, Ronaldo’s movement drew away two defenders, allowing the space for McKennie’s acrobatic volley from six yards. It was the first time ever that Barcelona had conceded two goals at home in the opening 20 minutes of a Champions League tie. ........

Barcelona 0-3 Juventus: CR7 rules in Messi's house

Dec 8, 2020

A pair of Cristiano Ronaldo penalties and Weston McKennie acrobatic volley allowed Juventus to humiliate Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou and win their Champions League group.

The 2-0 result was not enough, and Juve needed one more to take top spot from the Blaugrana. Martin Braithwaite came on for Francisco Trincao to give the hosts a little more presence in the box, and Messi fired straight at Buffon.

However, Clement Lenglet stuck out an arm to stop McKennie firing in from close range, it came to Ramsey and Ter Stegen made a stunning save. When viewed on VAR, the penalty was inevitable and Lenglet was very fortunate not to get a second yellow card.

Ronaldo converted the spot-kick again, this time sending Ter Stegen the wrong way to fire into the near bottom corner, and 3-0 put Juve top of the group. It was an even more incredible result considering Barca were unbeaten in 25 Champions League group games, going back to November 2016 against Manchester City. Juve also became the first ever Italian side to score three away goals at Camp Nou.

Buffon was again decisive on Messi, with Braithwaite firing over on the rebound, even if he was also offside. Barcelona were awarded a penalty for a foul on Griezmann, but it was neutralised by his own offside position.

The offside flag was also up on 76 minutes when Leonardo Bonucci bundled over the line from a Ronaldo lay-off on a corner, but for a moment Juve thought they were 4-0 up at Camp Nou. .........

Pirlo: 'Tactical plan worked with Barca'

224258268-61273f7b-9c57-4b26-b220-01fcd6

Dec 8, 2020

Andrea Pirlo explains the tactical plan that allowed Juventus to dominate Barcelona 3-0. ‘Cristiano Ronaldo was motivated against his eternal rival’ Leo Messi.

The Bianconeri needed to win by two clear goals other than 2-0 in order to cancel out the 2-0 Barca result in Turin.

They achieved it fully, with a pair of Cristiano Ronaldo penalties and an acrobatic Weston McKennie volley, becoming the first ever Italian side to score three goals at Camp Nou in UEFA competition.

“It was important for our journey that we pick up where we left off in the derby. When you start with that focus, concentration and determination, then the quality emerges,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had prepared the match to create superiority in midfield with three against their two, the midfielders like McKennie able to push up, as we knew they had difficulty stopping them pushing up through the middle.

“The tactical plan worked and then the players did really well to make the most of the scoring opportunities.” ...........

I never saw Messi as a rival, Ronaldo says after Juventus win over Barcelona

L'immagine più attesa: l'abbraccio tra Messi e Ronaldo prima della partita - BeSoccer

Dec 8, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo insisted he never saw Lionel Messi as a rival after Juventus brushed past Barcelona in the Champions League.

Ronaldo converted two penalties and Weston McKennie also scored at Camp Nou, where Juve claimed a 3-0 win and top spot in Group G on Tuesday.

Ronaldo, who shared a brief embrace with Messi before the clash, said there was no rivalry between the two all-time greats.

"I have always had a very cordial relationship with him," the Juve star told Movistar.

"I shared 12, 13 or 14 years of award ceremonies with him. I never saw him as a rival.

"He always tries to do what is best for his team and me too. I always got along very well with him.

"But we know that in football, for the press, for the show, a rivalry is sought, but I have always gotten along well with him. I see him as always."

Ronaldo scored his first goals against Barca in the Champions League (in his sixth appearance) and 133rd and 134th goals in the competition.

"Barcelona are going through a difficult time, but it is still Barcelona," Ronaldo said.

"The truth is that we are very happy, we knew it was an almost impossible mission, it was a complicated mission and we played well.

"The key was to get into the game well, we scored two early and from there we believed it was possible." ...........

RAI report that 1982 World Cup winner, Italy legend and Ballon d'Or winner Paolo Rossi has died at the age of 64.

The news was announced by RAI Sport presenter Enrico Varriale, as Rossi had been working with RAI as a pundit in recent years.

“Such terribly sad news: Paolo Rossi has left us,” wrote Varriale.

“Unforgettable Pablito, who made all of us fall in love in that summer of 1982 and who was a precious and competent work colleague in RAI over recent years.

“RIP dear Paolo.”

Rossi's wife Federica Cappelletti confirmed the news on social media, followed by his RAI colleague Varriale.

Fans, teammates and friends of Paolo Rossi are remembering the Italy legend and Ballon d’Or winner on social media. ...........

It was as Italy’s hero in the 1982 World Cup that Rossi wrote his name in the history books.

He scored 20 goals in 48 caps for the Azzurri, including six on the way to the 1982 trophy in Spain.

His hat-trick to beat Brazil 3-2 is legendary, followed by both goals to defeat Poland 2-0 in the semi-final and finding the net in the 3-1 Final triumph against West Germany.

These exploits allowed him to win the Golden Boot as top scorer at the 1982 World Cup and consequently the 1982 Ballon d’Or as European Player of the Year.

Baggio: 'I wanted to be like Paolo Rossi'

La commovente lettera di Roberto Baggio a Paolo Rossi: "Sognavo di diventare come lui. Ha regalato un sogno a milioni di italiani, cosa che a me non è riuscita" - Stile Juve

Dec 11, 2020

Roberto Baggio wrote a letter for Paolo Rossi: ‘I wanted to be like you, you made the dream of millions of Italians came true, something that I couldn’t accomplish.’

The 1982 Italy World Cup winner died on Wednesday aged 64.

“My awakening, another beating. A great cornerstone of Italian football leaves us. Paolo, PABLITO, PAOLO ROSSI,” Baggio wrote in an heartbreaking letter published by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Almost always he had to be called with name and surname: he was not Rossi he is, and always will be, PAOLO ROSSI. ........

“I went with my father to the Stadio Menti in Vicenza to watch the great Paolo Rossi. Then, throughout the game, I clung to the fence to watch him play and score.

“I thought one day I’d be playing in that stadium too, wearing that beautiful shirt with the big R on my chest. Imitating Paolo Rossi, I could have realized what he managed to achieve. Win a World Cup in the final against Brazil.

“What Paolo Rossi did against Germany. Win the Ballon d'Or, as Paolo Rossi did. Win on the suffering of struggling knees. Like Paolo Rossi did. Winning in a world that needs more and more the smile of Paolo Rossi. ........

“Paolo made the dream of millions of Italians came true, something that I couldn’t accomplish. Understanding the mystery of life today and give a reason to the things that happen to us, is not easy, like the emptiness that Paolo leaves in the heart of his wife and his three children to whom go my thoughts and my understanding.

“Goodbye Paolo, I wonder if you will wear your football boots when you are in the sky. I hope so, I hope your smile arrives there too. We will remember it here for a long time. Have a safe journey Paolo, in the eternal sky of the quiet light.”

Pirlo: 'Put Barcelona out of your mind'

CONFERENZA STAMPA ANDREA PIRLO PRE GENOA - JUVENTUS - YouTube

Dec 12, 2020

Andrea Pirlo tells Juventus to get Barcelona out of their minds and focus on Genoa, but also reveals why gets angry with Juan Cuadrado.

The biggest danger the coach sees in this game is still riding on the wave of enthusiasm created by their 3-0 Champions League triumph at Camp Nou.

“If we do still Barcelona on our minds, then we have to change that right now, turn over a new leaf and create a sense of consistency,” Pirlo told JTV.

“We can’t let that moment stop at one game and we’ve got to do better than over the last four Serie A matches. I want to see the same hunger and determination, otherwise we’ll run into an ugly surprise.”

Alvaro Morata is available again after his two-match ban for insulting the referee was halved on appeal.

“It’s going to be a difficult match against Genoa, who are very good at the defend and counter approach. They have quick and often physical players upfront, so we have to be very focused. ........

HT 0-0: Genoa frustrating Juventus

Dec 13, 2020

Juventus have attacked Genoa constantly, but failed to create many clear-cut scoring opportunities. ........

This was Cristiano Ronaldo’s 100th competitive game in the Juventus jersey. Adrien Rabiot had the ball in the net within 90 seconds, but he’d used his arm after Leonardo Bonucci knocked on the free kick and the midfielder was booked.

Mattia Perin made a good reaction save on Weston McKennie’s header and Rodrigo Bentancur drilled wide from a promising position, but while Juve were dominating possession, they had very few actual shots on goal.

Another McKennie header on a corner sailed over and Paulo Dybala’s curler was too close to Perin, as Juve attacked constantly in the first half, but without creating many genuine chances.

Genoa 1-3 Juventus: Dybala breaks duck

Immagine

Dec 13, 2020

Juventus took a long time to break Genoa down with Paulo Dybala’s first Serie A goal of the season, then a pair of Cristiano Ronaldo penalties sealed the win.

The Bianconeri were fresh from their best performance of the season, beating Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou, but had struggled against smaller clubs.

This was Cristiano Ronaldo’s 100th competitive game in the Juventus jersey. Adrien Rabiot had the ball in the net within 90 seconds, but he’d used his arm after Leonardo Bonucci knocked on the free kick and the midfielder was booked. .........

The deadlock was finally broken for  both Juve and Dybala with his first Serie A goal of the season. McKennie flicked on a long ball with his head for Dybala, who cut inside from the right and drilled left-footed in the near bottom corner, wrong-footing both Perin and the defender.

However, Genoa equalised moments later with a combination of ex-Juventus players. Luca Pellegrini floated a cross to the back post for Stefano Sturaro’s cushioned volley from the tightest of angles.

Dybala thought he’d scored another with an overhead kick when Ronaldo’s effort was parried into his path, but La Joya was offside and it was the second Juve goal disallowed.

Perin was decisive with a reaction save from point-blank range on Ronaldo’s header, but Genoa gave away a penalty with Rovella’s mistimed lunge on Cuadrado and CR7 celebrated his 100th game in the Juve jersey by converting a central but powerful penalty.

Genoa shot themselves in the foot again, as Alvaro Morata intercepted the terrible Pellegrini backpass and was brought down by Perin. Ronaldo converted this penalty too, firing it into the roof of the net.

Genoa: Perin; Goldaniga, Masiello, Bani, Pellegrini; Lerager, Radovanovic (Pandev 82), Rovella (Caso 82), Sturaro (Behrami 66); Pjaca (Shomurodov 73), Scamacca (Destro 66)

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt (Dragusin 90), Bonucci, Alex Sandro; McKennie, Bentancur, Rabiot (Morata 67), Chiesa (Kulusevski 83); Dybala (Bernardeschi 83), Cristiano Ronaldo

Dec 13, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 100th appearance in the Juventus jersey with his 79th goal to beat Genoa 3-1. ‘The win in Barcelona boosted confidence.’

The Bianconeri took a while to break Genoa down at Marassi, with Paulo Dybala’s first Serie A goal of the season, then Stefano Sturaro got an equaliser.

Ronaldo kept his cool late on to convert two spot-kicks following Genoa defensive errors.

“The objective is to win, always. It was a difficult game, personal records are pleasing, but the objective is the three points for the team,” Ronaldo told Sky Sport Italia.

It followed up their 3-0 Champions League triumph at Camp Nou, which allowed them to top their group.

“The win in Barcelona was very important, because to beat a side like that on their own turf really boosts confidence and belief. We saw the results here tonight. ...........

Pirlo: 'Happy for Dybala'

Serie A, Genoa-Juventus - Pirlo: "Bravi a cancellare Barcellona, ora mi aspetto di più da Dybala" - Eurosport

Dec 13, 2020

Andrea Pirlo congratulates Paulo Dybala on breaking his duck ‘both psychologically and physically,’ but the high press was behind the Juventus win over Genoa.

The Bianconeri had to rely on two late Cristiano Ronaldo penalties to finally get the better of Genoa after Stefano Sturaro had cancelled out the Dybala opener.

“The attitude was the most important thing and we had to cancel the Barcelona game from our minds,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were against a team that wanted to close up and defend, so we needed patience to get the breakthrough, but also the right attitude to attack them and press them into making errors.

“It was annoying to concede a goal at literally the first shot on target, especially a few minutes after we broke the deadlock, but we recovered from it.”

Many had expected Alvaro Morata to start today after his two-match ban was halved on appeal, but Pirlo kept the faith with La Joya, who got his first Serie A goal of the season.

“Paulo needed this goal to break through both psychologically and physically. He did well in the two phases today and we are happy for him.

“His performances have been improving recently and he deserved this goal, we’re very pleased for him.” ...........
