Juventus-Napoli: What happens now?

Juventus-Napoli 31 agosto 2019 | Gonfia la Rete

Oct 3, 2020

Napoli are blocked from travelling to Turin, so it looks as if tomorrow night’s game with Juventus will be postponed, but what happens now and who decides?

The situation arose because Napoli registered two COVID-19 cases among their players – Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas – plus a member of staff after their 6-0 win over Genoa last Sunday.

Genoa have since registered 22 cases in the matchday squad, including 17 players, most of which played against Napoli.

Considering the close contact Napoli had with such a serious outbreak, the ASL local health authority has banned them from travelling outside the region to Turin.

That would have to be by plane and it is considered an unacceptable health risk, as COVID-19 has a long incubation period, so people can have it for several days without any symptoms or positive tests.

The Lega Serie A has adopted the UEFA protocol for dealing with COVID outbreaks, specifically that as long as a team has 13 players available including at least one goalkeeper, the match must go ahead.

In theory, that would see Napoli forfeit the game with a 3-0 defeat. ......

Juventus refuse to postpone for Napoli

Juventus-Napoli, la sosta chi stanca di più? Ecco i km che percorreranno i 24 nazionali | Sky Sport

Oct 3, 2020

Juventus are trying to force Napoli to forfeit tomorrow’s Serie A game 3-0, whereas the Partenopei argue they are banned from travelling due to COVID restrictions.

A battle royal is erupting around protocol, rules and regulations, immediately putting this first post-COVID Serie A season to the test.

Sunday’s evening match at the Juventus Allianz Stadium has not formally been postponed yet, even though Napoli have been banned from travelling to Turin as planned this evening.

The Lega Serie A protocol for COVID cases is the same as the UEFA rules, so if a team has 13 available players including at least one goalkeeper, then the game can go ahead.

With this in mind, Juventus released the following statement this evening.

“Juventus Football Club announces that the First Team will take to the field for the Juventus - Napoli match tomorrow at 20:45, as foreseen by the Serie A League calendar.” ......

AGNELLI ON JUVENTUS-NAPOLI GAME: THE PROTOCOL IS CLEAR, WE RESPECT THE RULES

Immagine

Oct 4, 2020

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has defended his club’s actions after they took to pitch as usual with Napoli unable to travel to Turin.

The Partenopei were unable to leave Napoli after the local health authority refused the team permission following two positive coronavirus cases within the squad, thus resulting in the club asking for the game to be postponed.

Juventus declared that they would take to the field as normal, with Lega Serie A releasing a statement indicating that Napoli had no grounds for a postponement given there were only two positive coronavirus cases among the Napoli squad.

“There are very clear protocols for these situations,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia. “It was expected that a situation like this would come up. ......

Agnelli also confirmed that he had been in contact with his Napoli counterpart Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“We sent each other a message, he wrote to me,” Agnelli said. “I replied that Juventus follow the regulations.

“He wanted to postpone the game, a request that may be legitimate. In all industries there are rules and they must be followed.”

Spadafora: 'Serie A protocol still valid'

The Neapolitan mask of Pulcinella

Oct 5, 2020

Italy Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora insisted the Serie A protocol is “still valid” and said local health authorities can “intervene in specific and motivated cases” after a meeting with FIGC President Gabriele Gravina today.

“As of today, the protocol is still valid and must be respected by everyone with the utmost rigor”, Spadafora said.

Spadafora met Gravina after Napoli failed to attend yesterday's away clash against Juventus. The Partenopei didn't travel to Turin last week-end following a statement of the local health authority (ASL) that had told the Partenopei to self-isolate after two of their players and a member of the staff tested positive for Covid.  ......

Juventus-Napoli result sub judice

Juventus-Napoli, il Giudice Sportivo verso il rinvio della decisione. La Procura Figc apre un'inchiesta - Corriere.it

Oct 6, 2020

The result of Juventus-Napoli is ‘sub judice’ pending an investigation.

The Disciplinary Commission has released its findings for the Week 3 fixtures and there is a notable absentee, namely the result of the Juventus-Napoli fixture.

It was never played because the Partenopei didn’t make the trip to Turin, insisting they had been ordered not to travel by the local ASL health authority due to the risk of COVID-19 contagion.

The Lega Serie A and Juventus felt there was insufficient evidence for the ASL to over-rule the existing protocol, as only two Napoli players had tested positive.

In theory, Juve should receive a 3-0 win by default, but the result is still shown as ‘sub judice,’ meaning it is pending further investigation and judgment. ......

Juve-Napoli rescheduled with point deduction for the Azzurri?

Juve-Napoli: il 3-0 è meno probabile. Verdetto politico in preparazione

Oct 7, 2020

Serie A seems set to reschedule Juventus-Napoli, but the Partenopei could reportedly be deducted one point for breaking the current protocol.

The controversy after last weekend’s scheduled match between Juventus and Napoli, when the Bianconeri showed up at the Allianz Stadium to play the match against a Partenopei side who had been blocked from travelling to Turin by the local health authority.

The days go by and the Corriere della Sera claims the 3-0 defeat by default doesn’t seem likely and the report reveals Napoli hypothetically could be stripped of one point for violation of the protocol, but the match should therefore be rescheduled at a later date. ......

Seven players break Juve bubble

Juventus Brand Video Logo Presentation - YouTube

Oct 7, 2020

Seven players have left the Juventus retreat on Monday morning and could face fines for leaving the current team isolation.

After having found two cases for coronavirus last Saturday, Juventus have lived in a bubble within their camp at Continassa.

Several reports in Italy revealed Gianluigi Buffon and Merih Demiral had decided to leave the camp and return to their respective homes on Monday morning, whilst five others joined their national teams.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Juan Cuadrado, Danilo, Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo have reportedly left to play for their respective national teams.

The reports claim the Old Lady couldn’t stop them from leaving and when the players left the Juventus bubble it became an individual responsibility. ......

Oct 7, 2020

Juventus have been released from their ‘bubble’ after the series of COVID-19 tests all came back negative, with Cristiano Ronaldo even starting for Portugal tonight.

The Bianconeri had been placed into self-isolation at the J Hotel on October 3 following two positive tests for members of staff.

A statement this evening confirms the tests came back negative for the required period, so they have now been released to continue their self-isolation at home. ......

Tavecchio: 'Serie A suspension apocalyptic'

Pallone Da Calcio Con La Bandiera Dell'Inghilterra, Rappresentazione 3D Illustrazione di Stock - Illustrazione di multicolored, oggetto: 79991435

Oct 9, 2020

Former FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio warns suspending Serie A again if COVID-19 cases continue to rise would be ‘worse than apocalyptic’ for the sport. ......

“There is a protocol that was approved by all the authorities and is valid for various different situations,” Tavecchio told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“As far as I know, there was also an agreement between the clubs that they would continue to play, even if the squads were significantly reduced by cases.

“The local authorities therefore have to come into line with or at least work with the central authority of the State. If Serie A were to be suspended again, it’d be worse than apocalyptic for the sport in this country.” ......

Preziosi: 'Genoa risk Serie B with COVID outbreak'

All-New Serie A Logo 2019 Revealed - Footy Headlines

Oct 10, 2020

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi warns his club ‘risks losing many games by default and relegation to Serie B’ if the COVID-19 outbreak doesn’t ease its grip soon.

They have been the Serie A club by far worst affected by the virus, with 17 players and five members of staff testing positive.

“I still have 15 players who are positive, none of them have moved on to a negative status, and almost all of them are first choice picks,” Preziosi told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I don’t know how we are supposed to turn up to Verona and Inter. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was positive for 16 days at Milan, if that were to be replicated in all our players, it’d be a disaster.” ......

Napoli could forfeit the game with Juventus and have a point docked for their refusal to travel to Turin, despite citing an order from the local health authority to remain in the region.

“Juve-Napoli was a mortal blow to the reputation of our football. It opened up a chasm that we all tumbled into and it will be difficult to clamber back out.” ......

Former Juventus hero Claudio Marchisio claims the Old Lady’s match against Napoli should have been postponed in advance.

The former Italy international believes the ‘decisions’ should have arrived before the scheduled match last Sunday, when Juventus turned up to play against a Partenopei side blocked from travelling.

A verdict and an outcome of the controversial match is expected next week, but Marchisio thinks Serie A should have postponed the match after Genoa announced several positive tests in the matchday group from Napoli-Genoa. ......

Napoli given 3-0 Juve defeat and docked point

190140991-9d6dd1f9-9af4-4f2d-840c-bb1856

Oct 14, 2020

Juventus have been handed the 3-0 victory by default and Napoli docked one point, as the Disciplinary Commission rules the Partenopei didn’t follow the COVID-19 protocol.

Napoli did not make the trip to Turin for the Serie A Week 3 fixture on October 4 because they had two players test positive for COVID-19, Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas.

The club argued it had been banned from travelling by the local ASL (health authority), which urged the team to self-isolate as a precaution.

Juve and the Lega Serie A pointed out this had been taken into account by the existing COVID-19 protocol accepted by all the clubs before the season began and two cases did not warrant pulling out of the match.

The Disciplinary Commission has now ruled Napoli did not have enough reason to warrant missing the fixture. ......

Pirlo: 'Juventus accept risks'

Crotone-Juventus, Pirlo: «Due punti persi, ma il pareggio ci stava» - Corriere TV

Oct 17, 2020

Andrea Pirlo is ready to ‘take risks’ in order for Juventus to learn on the job after a 1-1 draw with Crotone. ‘It’ll be a battle, but I’m confident we’ll end up on top.’

It was a disappointing result and performance for the Bianconeri, who had to get back on track after Simy’s opening penalty, Alvaro Morata turning in the Federico Chiesa assist.

However, Chiesa was then shown a straight red card for his challenge on Luca Cigarini in the 1-1 draw.

“Unfortunately, we went down to 10 men in the last two games because of our errors, but we are a young team that needs to work and there hasn’t been much time for that with so many internationals,” the coach told DAZN. .......

Andrea Pirlo admits Paulo Dybala was upset after remaining on the bench for 90 minutes against Crotone: ‘Sooner or later he will play.’

Pirlo confirmed yesterday’s reports that claimed the player wasn’t happy for staying in the bench for the whole game against Crotone were accurate.

"I talked to him yesterday,” Pirlo revealed.

“I talk to him like I do with everyone else. He was upset because he didn’t come in on Saturday but he is coming back from three months of inactivity and three days in a room in Argentina being treated for an intestinal virus.

“He could play in Crotone but we were reduced to ten men and it was not possible to let him in. .......

The Old Lady are set to face Mircea Lucescu's Dynamo Kiev in their Champions League debut this season tomorrow.

"I’ll do as my players do. I’ll sleep, I’ll eat, I’ll come here for the game. I won’t play Play Station but I don’t change my habits".

"Lucescu was my first coach, he brought me to the first team when I was 15 and I made my debut at 16.

“We still talk to each other, I will always be grateful to him. Tomorrow is good opportunity to challenge him.” ......

Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski forced saves, but Juventus lost Giorgio Chiellini to injury in the first half against Dynamo Kiev. ......

Federico Chiesa was on the left flank and had the first chance, his angled drive beaten away one-handed, but Georgiy Bushchan missed the resulting Chiesa corner and Chiellini nodded wide.

However, Chiellini pulled up clutching his hamstring after 18 minutes and immediately waved to come off, replaced by Merih Demiral.

Chiesa curled wide of the far post and Juan Cuadrado tested Bushchan with a low cross-shot, but Dejan Kulusevski almost scored a spectacular goal on 35 minutes. Aaron Ramsey skipped away down the left and pulled back from the by-line, the Swede’s back-heel flick from five yards was palmed off the line at the near post.

CL 0-2: Morata double conquers Kiev

Alvaro Morata scored a brace after the break, as Juventus opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win away to Dynamo Kiev, but lost Giorgio Chiellini to injury.

However, Chiellini pulled up clutching his hamstring after 18 minutes and immediately waved to come off, replaced by Merih Demiral.

Within seconds of the restart, Juventus had taken the lead. It was a well-worked team move with Chiesa and Ramsey setting up Kulusevski on the edge of the area, his snapshot was only parried by Bushchan and Morata pounced on the rebound.

Paulo Dybala made his first appearance of the season, replacing Kulusevski, and immediately had a promising move when his shot was blocked in the penalty area.

Against the run of play, Juventus doubled their lead, as Juan Cuadrado’s cross from the right was perfect for Morata to nod in from seven yards, making the run in front of his defender. It had been evident that the Kiev goalkeeper was poor on crosses, so more should’ve been made of this weakness.
