  1. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Allegri: ‘CL knockouts main objective’ http://www.football-italia.net/73314/allegri-%E2%80%98cl-knockouts-main-objective%E2%80%99? Sep 22, 2015 Massimiliano Allegri says Juventus’ ‘first aim of the season is reaching the Champions League knockout stages’ and discusses injuries. The Bianconeri face Frosinone tomorrow evening in Serie A, after picking up their first league win of the season against Genoa on Sunday. Read our match preview here. However, their Coach stated that European ambitions are taking precedent over league form for the Old Lady this term. "Our first aim of this season is reaching the Champions League knockout stages,” he said at today’s pre-match Press conference. “We took our first step towards that in Manchester. "In Genoa we didn't allow the hosts a shot on goal and fully deserved our triumph. "Games against Genoa are always physical affairs. We did well to come away with a win from a tough venue. "Mandzukic didn't feel any pain during the game. It was muscle fatigue that led to his injury. "Inter's start hasn't surprised me. They're a solid outfit with dangerous individuals. "Our aim tomorrow is to win and climb up into the higher reaches of the table. "I've got plenty of options for the Frosinone match and could also rest a few players. "It's a pity to leave Daniele Rugani out at present. He's coming on well, has plenty of quality and a great temperament. "Lemina represents a decent fit as an inside midfielder. He did well on his debut against Genoa. "Neto will start against Frosinone in place of Buffon. Caceres will once again be rested for tomorrow's game "I need to check on Morata's condition today, if he's available I'll have three strikers at my disposal. “Asamoah continues to train with the team and will soon be available for selection.” http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  2. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Juventus vs. Frosinone: Team News, Predicted Lineups http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2569785-juventus-vs-frosinone-team-news-predicted-lineups-live-stream-tv-info? Sep 22, 2015 Having finally returned to winning ways against Manchester City, Juventus followed that up with their first league victory, comfortably seeing off Genoa this past weekend. The Bianconeri do not have long to rest on their laurels, however, as they are pressed back into Serie A action with Frosinone's visit to Turin on Wednesday. With that 2-0 victory over Genoa safely in the books—and reviewed in depth here—the squad appeared much happier, with Giorgio Chiellini believing that their Champions League outing had helped immeasurably. “After Tuesday, I was confident that a match like this could see us rekindle our spark,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia (h/t giornalaccio rosa World) shortly after the final whistle on Sunday, going on to insist it also would spur them on further. “I thought we played well, and this should be a starting point for us,” Chiellini continued. “We go into the Frosinone match knowing what we are capable of and we will look to be at our best.” OptaPaolo ✔ @OptaPaolo 14 - #Frosinone have won a league-high 14 home games, securing promotion to the top-flight for the 1st time in their history. History. That is not good news for the Canarini, beaten again on Sunday by Bologna as the size of the task facing the top-flight debutants is fully revealed. Yet coach Roberto Stellone was left bemoaning his side’s misfortune after seeing them hit the crossbar twice in a 1-0 loss. “Today we had a good game,” Stellone noted on Rai Sport after the game (h/t Forza Italian Football). “We were just bad in attack, but in the second half we kept the ball in play and were better—yet unlucky—in front of goal.” Sadly for Stellone and Frosinone, his Juventus counterpart was equally dissatisfied, believing there is also much more to come from the defending champions. “We’ve got time to improve and that’s precisely what we need to do,” Massimiliano Allegri told reporters on Sunday, per the club’s official website. That does not bode well for Wednesday’s visitors as Italian football’s grand Old Lady warms up for yet another title challenge. Predicted Formations Juventus (4-3-3): Gigi Buffon; Stephan Lichtsteiner, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Alex Sandro; Mario Lemina, Hernanes, Paul Pogba; Roberto Pereyra; Paulo Dybala, Simone Zaza Unavailable: Alvaro Morata, Mario Mandzukic, Sami Khedira, Kwadwo Asamoah, Claudio Marchisio (all injured) Frosinone (4-4-2): Nicola Leali; Aleandro Rosi, Leonardo Blanchard, Modibo Diakite, Daniel Pavlocic; Aleksandar Tonev, Yussif Chibsah, Paolo Sammarco, Danilo Soddimo; Federico Dionisi, Nicolas Castillo Unavailable: Massimiliano Carlini, Robert Gucher (both injured) Player to Watch While Juan Cuadrado has shown he is a valuable addition for the Bianconeri, perhaps fellow new arrival Hernanes will be the man to watch against Frosinone. The Brazilian was rested against Genoa at the weekend but is likely to return for this next fixture, and his impact could prove telling. Against both Chievo and Manchester City, the former Lazio man was at the heart of the Bianconeri’s positive attacking play, and did so from two very different positions. For the clash with the former he was deployed just behind the strikers, and orchestrated some fine interplay, while also showcasing his set piece ability. OptaPaolo ✔ @OptaPaolo 40 - Since 2010/11 only Hamsik has scored more goals (46) in the league than #Hernanes (40) among Serie A midfielders. Shooter. At the Etihad Stadium, Claudio Marchisio was unavailable, prompting Allegri to use Hernanes as a deep-lying playmaker in central midfield, and he was once again excellent. Showing a fine range of passing, the 30-year-old showed he is a versatile signing, one that allows Juventus to operate in a variety of styles. Key Battle Arguably the matchup that will most affect the outcome on Wednesday evening is between Frosinone’s Nicola Leali and the Juventus attack. Finally sparking into life over the past two games, the Bianconeri front line poses a daunting threat to any defence, with the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata needing little introduction. Standing in their way will be Leali, a 22-year-old goalkeeper who is actually on loan from the Turin giants for the 2015/16 campaign. According to statistics courtesy of the Fox Soccer website, no player has faced more shots than the 22 fired in his direction thus far, a tally Juve will look to add to. Asked if he was ready to move to Turin in the near future, Leali told Roma Talk Radio (per CalcioNews24, quotes in Italian) that for the moment all he is thinking of is doing well with Frosinone. If his new side are to take anything from this encounter, they will need their young shot-stopper at his very best and have him deliver the kind of performance that first attracted Juve’s attention. Odds (via Odds Shark) Away win: 454-25 Home win: 100-667 Draw: 611-100 http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  3. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Juventus - Frosinone Preview: Chiellini & Pereyra buoyed by recent upturn A poor start to the season from the Old Lady was ended with wins over Manchester City and Genoa as the Serie A champions looks to climb the table. http://www.goal.com/en-za/match/juventus-vs-frosinone/2120421/preview Sep 21, 2015 Juventus head into their first ever top-flight meeting against Frosinone with their belief restored, according to experienced defender Giorgio Chiellini. The reigning Serie A champions endured a torrid start to their title defence, taking a solitary point from their first three games, and found themselves 1-0 down midway through the second half of their Champions League opener at Manchester City. But goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata completed a sensational turnaround to see off the Premier League leaders and Massimiliano Allegri's men built on that success with a 2-0 victory at Genoa on Sunday. The latter win came at a price, with Mandzukic (thigh) and Morata (abdominal) leaving their coach with something of a quandary in attack, but Chiellini is delighted to be back to winning ways. "We'll take each game as it comes and approach Frosinone with the same calmness that we demonstrated [against Genoa]," he told Sky Italia. "After this week we have plenty of belief going forward for the rest of the campaign." Roberto Pereyra entered the fray when Morata sustained his injury during the first half at the weekend and could be in line to start against the visitors, who have lost all four matches to date on their Serie A debut. Juve come into Wednesday's clash eight points behind leaders Inter, who have a perfect record thus far, but such a margin does not intimidate Pereyra at this early stage of the season. "Inter have started well and that's why they're top after four games," he told his club's official website. "But as we all know the season has just started and we'll give everything as a team to make sure we start climbing the table." On his prospects of a place in the first XI against Frosinone, where Simone Zaza will be pushing for a maiden Juventus start, Pereyra added: "The manager asked me to pick up where Alvaro had left off [at Genoa] and I think I did a good job. "No-one is guaranteed a spot in this team and everyone knows that they have to work hard to cement their place in the side." Juventus won both matches against Frosinone without conceding during their Serie B campaign in 2006-07, goalkeepers Gianluigi Buffon and Massimo Zappino taking part in those encounters. Zappino has not played for Frosinone so far this season, with Nicola Leali – on a season-long loan from Juventus – keeping him out of the team. OPTA FACTS Juventus and Frosinone meet for the first time in Serie A – the Old Lady won without conceding goals in both of their two previous meetings they had in Serie B in 2006/07. The two ‘keepers Gigi Buffon and Massimo Zappino both took part to those meetings in Serie B. On Sunday against Genoa, Juventus kept their first clean sheet after conceding for seven consecutive league games between this and last season. The Bianconeri haven’t won either of their last two home games – the last time they’ve failed to win for three home games in a row in the league was in May 2011. Juventus have won only one of their last four league games at the “Stadium” – previously, they had won 34 home games out of 36 in the league, drawing two. Frosinone have lost their first four Serie A games – the last team to make their debut in the top-flight with four consecutive defeats was Sassuolo in 2013/14 (and they eventually avoided relegation). Frosinone have faced 83 shots so far – more than any other side in Serie A. Juventus have already scored two goals from the penalty spot – more than any other side in the competition. 5. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Serie A Preview – Juventus V Frosinone: The Bianconeri Host Winless Canarini http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/serie-a-preview-juventus-v-frosinone-the-bianconeri-host-winless-canarini/? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus host Frosinone in Serie A at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday night, hoping to extend their recent good form. The Bianconeri got their first win of the Serie A season on Sunday by defeating Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris while the Canarini are yet to gain a single point in the league and haven’t scored a goal since their opening day defeat to Torino. Roberto Stellone’s side lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Bologna at the weekend. Massimiliano Allegri’s side lost their first two games of the season against Udinese and Roma, while they were fortunate to gain a point at home to Chievo following the defeat in Rome. Juventus drew 1-1 with the Flying Donkeys but Rolando Maran’s side had a legitimate goal controversially disallowed. These two sides have never played each other in Serie A but Juventus did play Frosinone in league football back in the 2006-07 Serie B campaign. The Bianconeri won 1-0 in Turin thanks to a Alessandro Del Piero goal and they won 2-0 in Frosinone thanks to a Marcelo Zalayeta double. Both teams won’t have anyone missing through suspension but the Bianconeri will be missing the likes of Sami Khedira, Claudio Marchisio and Kwadwo Asamoah because of long-term injuries. Attacking duo Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic both miss out after suffering muscle injuries at the weekend. The Canarini are close to full strength but Austrian midfielder Robert Gucher isn’t expected to be rushed back into the team. Expected Starting XIs Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Sturaro, Hernanes, Pogba; Cuadrado, Zaza, Pereyra Frosinone: Leali; Rosi, Blanchard, Diakhite, Pavlovic; Tonev, Chibsah, Sanmarco, Soddimo; Dionisi, Castillo http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  6. Kwadwo Asamoah's Juventus return still uncertain When and where will we see him again? http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/9/21/9365855/kwadwo-asamoahs-return-uncertain-juventus-injury Sep 21, 2015 Kwadwo Asamoah has been missing from the Juventus lineup for a long, long time. The player's last appearance in Juve colors was in November of last year when he had picked up a career-threatening knee injury at the time, which resulted in him getting hyaline cartilage surgery done in December. Click here for the BWRAO post regarding the player's injury and subsequent surgery. Here's the club's brief statement, courtesy of juventus.com, from back in December: While his team-mates were out training, Kwadwo Asamoah was in Barcelona to undergo arthroscopic surgery designed to fix torn cartilage in his left knee. Operated on by Dr. Cugat and accompanied by club doctor Causarano, the Ghanaian is expected to return to competitive action within three to four months. That original recovery timeline has been pushed back several times, with the player finally making it back to Vinovo in the earlier part of September. Asamoah featured in a warmup game for Juve too, against fifth division side Cheraschese on the 4th of September. The Bianconeri won 3-1 with goals from Alvaro Morata, Dybala and Stefano Pellini. Asamoah was supposed to have returned to training with his teammates, but his delayed return to the pitch resulted in Juventus being forced to exclude him from the UEFA Champions League squad list which was due on September 1st. Since then he has been training with his teammates but was mysteriously not named in the squad for last weekend's game at Genoa. There are a couple of possibilities for the versatile player when he does make it back into the team. The signing of Alex Sandro during the summer mercato means he most likely will not be used in the left wingback position again. With both Claudio Marchisio out again and no sign of Sami Khedira returning to the lineup anytime soon, there are certain sections of the Bianconeri fanbase clamoring for the Ghanaian to slot in at the regista position. However, debutant and new signing Mario Lemina looked very composed in the middle of the park against Genoa so the pressure is off Massimiliano Allegri for the time being to use Asamoah in that role, in the Seria A at least since Asamoah is not even in the Champions League squad. To add more mystery, unsubstantiated rumours circulating are that Juve could be pursuing a swap deal with AC Milan in January for Asamoah with Nigel de Jong in the January transfer window. Putting aside your opinions of the Dutchman in the Old Lady's colours, getting an enforcer feels like a throwback to the days of Felipe Melo and the consecutive seventh-place finishes.
  7. Trezeguet: Buffon Is The Most Symbolic Juventus Player http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/trezeguet-buffon-is-the-most-symbolic-juventus-player/? Sep 21, 2015 Former Juventus striker David Trezeguet has stated that Bianconeri captain Gianluigi Buffon is the most symbolic player to have played for the club. The former French international spent ten years with the Old Lady from 2000-2010 and has since discussed these ‘golden years’, as well as praising his former teammate Buffon of whom he holds in deep regard. “I had the fortune to play with some people who made footballing history in Italy,” said Trezeguet to Tuttomercatoweb.com “I spent three golden years with the likes of Pavel Nedved, Fabio Cannavaro, Zinedine Zidane and Alessandro Del Piero. The Juve of today now have Paul Pogba.” He continued: “The most emblematic player at Juventus is Gianluigi Buffon.” “I respect him a lot. “As for the best player I played with, it is far too difficult to give an answer.” During his highly decorated career as a Juventus player, Trezeguet made 245 appearances and scored an impressive 171 goals.
  8. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Juventus without Mandzukic for three weeks The Croatia international will miss the forthcoming games in Serie A and the Champions League due to a thigh injury. http://www.goal.com/en/news/723/serie-a/2015/09/21/15594232/-? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic is facing three weeks on the sidelines due to a torn thigh muscle. The Croatia international was substituted during the closing stages of Sunday's 2-0 Serie A win at Genoa and tests revealed he has suffered a grade-one tear of his right femoral bicep according to the club's official website, which says the forward will be absent for 20 days. Mandzukic will miss Wednesday night's league match against Frosinone and this weekend's trip to Napoli. The 29-year-old was on target when Juve beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Champions League last week, but he will miss their next outing in the competition against Sevilla. Juventus host Bologna before the October round of international fixtures, where Mandzukic will also be considered a doubt for his country's Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Malta. Bianoconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri has a striker shortage on his hands at the Bianconeri, with Alvaro Morata having also sustained an injury at Genoa. The Spain international departed during the first half due to an abdominal muscle complaint that is being assessed by the club’s medical staff, making him a major doubt for the Frosinone match. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  9. Mario Mandzukic ruled out three weeks with thigh injury http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/9/21/9364819/juventus-mario-mandzukic-alvaro-morata-injury-update-serie-a-2015 Sep 21, 2015 It wouldn't be the day after a Juventus game without some kind of injury news being told to all of us. That's the state of the players' injury troubles. One player returns, another one heads back to the training room to begin a rehabilitation program. Rinse and repeat. (Insert "Injuries are stupid" thoughts here.) The latest injury-hit Juventus player is stirker Mario Mandzukic, who came off injured late in Sunday's 2-0 win over Genoa. The final verdict after medical examinations is that the big Croatian will miss the next three weeks — games against Frosinone, Napoli, Sevilla and Bologna — with a thigh injury. Here's what Juventus' official website had to say about the matter: Missing out on training today were strike duo Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata, who were both subjected to medical examinations after reporting injuries during the win over Genoa. The Croatian forward's tests revealed a first-grade tear of the bicep femoris muscle in his right thigh, which will require a recovery period of 20 days. Morata's medical checks ruled out any serious muscle damage in the abdominal region and his condition will continue to be monitored over the coming days. Yeah, injuries suck. And writing about them all the time makes them even worse. But I guess the good part in all of this is that there is some good injury news to report, and that involves the status of Morata, who had to come out of the win over Genoa in the first half with a groin injury. The obvious beneficiary of this new Mandzukic injury will be Paulo Dybala, who has started only one of Juve's six games in all competitions this season. And if Morata is truly ready to go come Wednesday against Frosinone, maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see the Morata-Dybala partnership in whichever formation Max Allegri decides to go with the next couple of weeks. (Your guess is as good as mine at this point.) The same can be said for Simone Zaza, who made his first official appearance in a Juventus jersey against Genoa when he came on for Mandzukic in the 82nd minute. Be well, Mario. And, please, let that "monitored over the coming days" portion of Morata's injury situation prove to be nothing at all. I think we've had our fill of injury news for the month, thank you very much.
  10. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Juventus Pair To Miss Frosinone Fixture http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/juventus-pair-to-miss-frosinone-fixture/? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus striking duo Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic could be forced to sit out the Bianconeri’s midweek meeting with newly promoted Frosinone through injury. The pair, who both scored in the Old Lady’s vital Champions League victory over Manchester City a week ago, will be evaluated on Monday afternoon before Massimiliano Allegri will know for certain whether or not they will miss out. As reported by Tuttojuve.com, the Spaniard complained on Sunday of abdominal pain and both will undergo scans on Monday. Should both be forced to sit the game out, it would present the opportunity for Simone Zaza to make his Bianconeri debut alongside Paulo Dybala, following the former’s summer arrival from fellow Serie A side Sassuolo. Juventus will host Frosinone at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday, as part of a full round of midweek Serie A fixtures. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  11. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic injuries a concern for Juventus http://www.espnfc.co.uk/juventus/story/2623654/morata-and-mandzukic-injuries-a-concern-for-juventus? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is sweating on the injuries suffered by forwards Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic. Morata left the field with an abdominal injury during Sunday's 2-0 win at Genoa, while he was followed off the field later by Mandzukic. They join Sami Khedira, Claudio Marchisio and Kwadwo Asamoah in the treatment room and leave Allegri potentially with only Paulo Dybala and Simone Zaza as his only recognised forwards for Wednesday night's clash with Frosinone. Questions were asked about the growing injury list post match, but Allegri brushed them aside. "I don't know much about these injuries -- abdominal injuries are not my specialisation," Allegri told Sky Sport Italia. "It's something unique and strange. It's my fault, just like it was when I was at AC Milan. "I find it entertaining. It's entertaining to hear everybody talking, also because in the end all that matters are the results. It's a discussion which goes nowhere." Morata, 22, is to undergo tests on Monday and Allegri will be hoping it is nothing major as his side prepare to host Frosinone in midweek before travelling to Napoli on Saturday. The following Wednesday, they host Sevilla in the Champions League before Bologna pay the Juventus Stadium a visit in an important few weeks for the Bianconeri leading up to the next international break. Sunday's win -- their first in the league all season -- lifted them to 12th in the standings, still eight points behind the early season pacesetters Inter Milan, who Allegri regards as favourites to win the title this season. "I always said that Inter are favourites," he said. "Looking at the table today, we're a long way behind." The Juve coach can take encouragement from his team's two results this week, with victories over Manchester City and Genoa, and with the performance in both of those games of Paul Pogba. The France midfielder had looked out of sorts in the first few weeks of the Bianconeri's season, but he now appears to be finding his form again. "We've not done anything yet, let's be clear about that," Pogba said. "We only had one point and now we've got four, but we need to rediscover some continuity in our performances and in our results. "We're happy, but now we've got to move on like we know how. Losing [Andrea] Pirlo, [Carlos] Tevez and [Arturo] Vidal was hard to digest and now it's up to the younger players to take that leap. We need to assume more responsibility and I'm ready to play my part. I'm not scared of being the leader. "Wearing the No. 10 shirt is not weighing me down. Wearing any Juve shirt is a huge burden -- not everybody can wear it. This makes me feel honoured to be here. I need to improve a great deal, but the team comes first and so my goal makes me happy only because it means we've got back to winning ways. "My coach and my teammates have a lot of faith in me, and I won't let them down." Pogba has a lot of faith in teammate Mario Lemina, who made his Juve debut in the 2-0 win. "I get on really well with him," Pogba said. "It's only his first game and I'm really happy for him. I want to compliment him because it's not easy to make your debut in Genoa, against such tough opponents, but he did really, really well." http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  12. JUVENTUS - FROSINONE - MATCHDAY 5 Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015 - 8:45 PM Juventus Stadium - Turin Referee:‬ Angelo Cervellera Juve sweat over injured trio http://www.football-italia.net/73254/juve-sweat-over-injured-trio? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus could reportedly be without Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic for Wednesday’s clash with Frosinone, but Mario Lemina should recover. Spanish striker Morata limped off after 22 minutes of Sunday’s 2-0 Serie A win against Genoa, and Tuttosport have today described the injury he sustained as ‘strange’. The paper reports that the Bianconeri’s medical staff have been left stumped by the type of problem Morata has sustained, and he is believed to have a problem with his abductor too. Today the forward will undergo tests in order to work out the length of his layoff. Mandzukic’s injury is less serious according to giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, as the Croatian was also forced to leave the pitch at the Stadio Ferraris on Sunday. giornalaccio rosa reports that the striker has a thigh problem and is almost guaranteed to miss out on Wednesday evening’s clash. However, the good news for the Old Lady is that Lemina, who left the stadium on Sunday with an ice pack on his knee, appears to only have bruising and should recover in time. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  13. Chiellini: Juventus desperate to catch Inter The Old Lady defender wants to catch Roberto Mancini's side and regain the Scudetto after the first league victory of the season on Sunday. http://www.goal.com/en/news/723/serie-a/2015/09/21/15568182/-? Sep 21, 2015 Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has indicated that the reigning Serie A champions remain confident they can successfully defend their league title. Massimiliano Allegri's men have struggled to get going in 2015-16 and Sunday's 2-0 win over Genoa was only their first league victory of the season. Juventus have already fallen eight points behind leaders Inter in the Serie A table, but Chiellini is determined to keep fighting until the very end. "This win will add to our growing confidence and we'll see where we are come May," Chiellini told the official Juventus website. "Inter lead the way at the moment but the league doesn't finish in September. "That tenacious streak has never left this side, it's still there for all to see. "We'll take each game as it comes. After this week we have plenty of belief going forward for the rest of the campaign." Juventus already recorded a 2-1 Champions League win over Manchester City in midweek and Chiellini was pleased to see them build on that win versus Genoa. "Before Tuesday, we knew that a good start in the Champions League would get us going and rekindle that spark that was lacking in our first three league games," he said. "We've come to what is a very difficult place to play against a typically fired-up Genoa side and left with an important three points. We read the game well and grew into it after the first goal."

  15. GENOA - JUVENTUS 0 - 2 Eugenio Lamanna (37'-own goal) Paul Pogba (60'-penalty) MATCHDAY 4 Sunday, September 20th, 2015 - 3:00 PM Luigi Ferraris Stadium - Genoa Referee:‬ Paolo Valeri Juventus Take European Momentum into Serie A with Big Away Win over Genoa http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2569731-juventus-take-european-momentum-into-serie-a-with-big-away-win-over-genoa? Sep 21, 2015 On Tuesday, Juventus took a major step toward arresting their awful start to the season. Going into their Champions League opener at Manchester City, they were fairly heavy underdogs but played an organized game and scored two fantastic goals to come from behind and take a crucial early victory. After only managing two defeats and a draw in their first three league games, the victory—which accompanied a surprise tactical shift to a 4-3-3—was a massive confidence boost. The team's many new parts came together a little bit more, and it was hoped Sunday's game would take Tuesday's positive start and consolidate it into real momentum. Much to the relief of the team's fans, they delivered on that promise, even though it wasn't as convincing as some might have liked—a 2-0 win away at Genoa. The Bianconeri were expecting a stern test. In the days before the game, full-back Martin Caceres pointed out to JTV (h/t Football Italia) the difference in Italian and English styles and predicted there would be a lot less space for Juventus to operate in than they had in Manchester. The Uruguayan's statement proved prophetic. Playing a typically organized game, Gian Piero Gasperini's men defended well and didn't give the Bianconeri much room to create. Juve did start fast, with Alvaro Morata testing Eugenio Lamanna a mere 20 seconds into the match. But after that, things bogged down for a bit. The new-look attacking trident of Morata, Mario Mandzukic and Juan Cuadrado took some time to get into the game, and for a while, Genoa had the majority of possession. It didn't help matters when Morata—fresh off his fantastic winner against City—pulled up with an apparent abdominal injury after 22 minutes. He was replaced by Roberto Pereyra, and that seemed to signal a change. Pereyra consistently found holes in the defense, and as he pulled the Grifone out of place, Cuadrado began to do the same on the other side. Slowly, they began to cause more problems. It was Pereyra who put Juve in for their first goal of the afternoon. His cross-shot from the right channel was perfectly weighted for Paul Pogba, who stayed onside and acrobatically tried to volley into the net. Nothing has been easy this year so far, so it was fitting that what should have been an easy goal turned strange when Pogba mishit it and banged the ball off the underside of the crossbar—only for it to rebound off Lamanna's knee and into the net for an own goal. Six minutes later, it was Cuadrado's turn to put a stamp on the game. Bursting through on a breakaway, Armando Izzo had no choice but to haul him down, earning his second yellow card—and an early shower—two minutes before the break. It was then when Juve showed there was still room to improve. Up a man for 47 minutes, they heaped pressure on Genoa's goal, but no one was able to come up with a convincing effort to test Lamanna. Cuadrado scurried around the field and dragged defenders with him, but he also showed the glaring weakness in his game: a severe lack of directness. The Colombia international is certainly skilled, but he frequently gets too cute for his own good. He takes dribbles around far too often, executing a series of pointless stepovers while actually being shepherded away from the danger zones or allowing defenders to get into his shooting lanes. All this extra flair can win the odd free kick or penalty, but it sometimes looks like that's all Cuadrado is trying to do rather than actually, you know, score. Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and hardly ever bothers with such extra fluff. He identifies where he wants to go, gets there and finishes. That's the kind of forward that has scored throughout Juve's history like Michel Platini, Alessandro Del Piero and Carlos Tevez. It's what Cuadrado needs to do more of. Eventually, the penalty that sealed the game was drawn not by Cuadrado but Giorgio Chiellini, who was in an advanced position after a corner kick. Pogba slotted past penalty specialist Lamanna, and any hope Genoa had of leaving the Marassi with a point was all but extinguished. It wasn't the dominating victory some were hoping for, but three points are three points, especially given the way the season has begun. Despite the win, the players are still very much feeling each other out. But the positive signs are there. The defence—which had previously failed to keep a clean sheet since the Supercoppa Italiana in August—looked its old unbreakable self. Gianluigi Buffon didn't have to face a single shot on target. Mario Lemina made his Juve debut and showed flashes of the player who has drawn some comparisons to a young Arturo Vidal. Pereyra looked the best player on the field after a horrendous start to the campaign. Slowly but surely Juventus are coming together. A midweek date with Frosinone is next before a crunch away game at Napoli. So long as Juve continue to improve at this pace, they'll be ready to make a climb up the table. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
  16. Pogba: ‘Juve play as a team now’ http://www.football-italia.net/73256/pogba-%E2%80%98juve-play-team-now%E2%80%99? Sep 21, 2015 Paul Pogba says the departures of Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal have made Juventus ‘play as a team.’ The influential trio left Turin in the summer and the Bianconeri have got off to a slow start in the league without them, but the France international believes it has made the team more united. "With Tevez, Vidal and Pirlo we were all more individualistic,” Pogba told Tuttosport. “Thanks to their quality we could decide a game at any moment, but now we have to play more as a team. “The number 10 shirt is important, it was the Platini’s shirt and I have to show that I’m decisive.”
  17. GENOA - JUVENTUS 0 - 2 Eugenio Lamanna (37'-own goal) Paul Pogba (60'-penalty) MATCHDAY 4 Sunday, September 20th, 2015 - 3:00 PM Luigi Ferraris Stadium - Genoa Referee:‬ Paolo Valeri Pressure on Juventus begins to ease after earning first Serie A win this term http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/juventus/111/blog/post/2623368/pressure-on-juventus-begins-to-ease-after-first-serie-a-win? Sep 21, 2015 Hardly convincing, but Juventus managed their first Serie A win of the season beating Genoa 2-0 away from home. Having managed unlikely success in the Champions League against a team they themselves feel can win the tournament, the Bianconeri have recovered their confidence, but more importantly, their cynicism. While in Europe, the Juve players worked together and showed great discipline and unity. Against Genoa, there were guilty of relying on excellent movements from certain players but the game from the unit as a whole seemed disjointed as it has done previously. Once again, Massimiliano Allegri was unable to field his best starting lineup, aware that his men are required to play several games in the next few weeks, he decided to rotate again. So while defensively the side is improving, offensively there are still a few kinks to iron out. Genoa played as expected. Masking the lack of sheer talent with grit and energetic running, they pressed their opponents high up the pitch and ran relentlessly to stifle the opponent and claim the upper hand. However, energy can only take you so far as they were not really capable of creating any patterns of play that scared the Juve back line, allowing Gianluigi Buffon to take the night off. Keeping the Bianconeri at bay, they still believed in their cause up until the team went down to 10 men. Then their task of containing talent, despite the lack of fluidity, proved too difficult. Despite the win, it's clear Juve are still far from the levels they reached last season. However, they do seem to be improving with each game, as on this occasion several goal-scoring opportunities were created with only the final ball proving to be problematic. With Juan Cuadrado available and capable of taking on opponents in front of him, he creates problems and has proved effective for the side with his particular set of skills making the difference. More than that, his attitude and confidence is inspiring those around him. Sadly for the team, the offensive movements are not being finished off in style as Paul Pogba missed a few chances while Mario Mandzukic seemed to be suffering with his confidence. Having scored midweek, one thought the former Atletico Madrid striker would be firing on all cylinders, but his style of game and the work he does for the team is almost forcing him into being a little blunt when the time comes to score. Dropping deep, occupying space and bringing others into play have robbed the forward of his usual precision, but it will take him time to find the right balance and better understand how to manage his energy levels so that he can impose his own strengths. The Italian league, despite its reputation, is physically demanding, and coping with the training schedules as well as maintaining freshness is by no means an easy feat. Thankfully, a lucky own goal allowed Juventus to take the lead. Pogba struck the ball and what should have been an easy finish somehow became a complicated affair, bouncing off the goalkeeper before it went in. After the goal Juve were better able to operate without the pressure piling on their shoulders, and their game improved, with several more chances being created until an overwhelmed Genoa went down to 10. Experience is vital in any game, but the lack of it was the reason behind the Rossoblu's defeat. They were of course unlucky, and Juve's second goal, which arrived by way of a contentious penalty, certainly didn't help matters. However, experience helps when it comes to managing games and emotions to ensure little mistakes don't end up costing the team dearly. Mario Lemina is one who will need time to hone his skill and learn how to play the game as opposed to simply fulfilling his positional tasks. Despite managing a good debut, the youngster was guilty of several unnecessary fouls that needn't happen. He must learn how to perform his defensive duties without conceding fouls in dangerous areas or wasting possession. Perhaps the yellow card he received was harsh, but after receiving it his game truly suffered. From then on, he couldn't operate as he liked. One player who has improved during his time with the Bianconeri is Roberto Pereyra, who made all the difference on the day. Coming on for Alvaro Morata, who went off injured, the Argentine dribbled marvellously and showed off all his technical ability while working for the team, creating opportunities and penetrating a tough Genovese back line with relative ease. After so many wonderful performances he perhaps deserves to start a game, as with a little more consistency he could grow even more. With Pereyra helping his side claim the win, Juventus will feel a little less pressure going forward and perhaps in time that will translate into more success and more points. However, there's little time to celebrate as Frosinone await on Wednesday. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127

The Nerazzurri extended their 100% start to the season on Sunday as Mauro Icardi's 42nd-minute winner was enough to down Chievo Verona and give them a fourth straight win. Roberto Mancini's side sit eight points clear of the Bianconeri, who won 2-0 at Genoa to pick up their first victory so far, and Chiellini warns that nothing is won in September. "This win will add to our growing confidence and we'll see where we are come May," Chiellini told the official Juventus website. "Inter lead the way at the moment but the league doesn't finish in September. That tenacious streak has never left this side, it's still there for all to see. "We'll take each game as it comes. After this week we have plenty of belief going forward for the rest of the campaign." Juve have won the Scudetto every year for the past four seasons. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127

They visited Liguria looking for momentum and confidence in the domestic championship. Maybe it wasn´t pretty, but Juventus captured their first victory of the season with a solid exhibition against the Grifone. Massimiliano Allegri presented a 4-3-3 formation, similar of what he displayed this past Tuesday in Manchester. The biggest highlight in the lineup was the debut of Mario Lamina, as the youngster started along with countryman Paul Pogba and Stefano Sturaro in the middle of the park. In the other side, Gian Piero Gasperini, a well-known attack-minded coach, deployed a 3-4-3/3-5-2 arrangement with Diego Perotti playing as a faux prima punta. On paper, the two managers promised a very entertaining game. The match began extremely even with the two sides attacking and exchanging some unclear opportunities. However, at the 20th minute, Allegri´s plans for the match changed briskly when Álvaro Morata had to leave the tie due to a groin injury. Max chose Roberto Pereyra to replace the Spaniard. Fifteen minutes later, "El Tucumano" proved his worth in a blooper-like play. Pereyra dribbled Issa Cissokho and executed a brilliant cross that found an unmarked Pogba at the far post. The Frenchman volley crashed the bar and ricocheted off Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna, after the rebound the ball found slowly the back of the net. Juventus was ahead. Shortly after, Juan Cuadrado intercepted the ball cleanly in the midfield, he accelerated towards Lamanna, but Armando Izzo fouled him. This action represented the second yellow card for the Genoa's defender, who must departed the game earlier and left his side with 10 men on the pitch. The second half was dominated by the Bianconeri, who harassed Genoa early and often. Juventus showed patience in the early stages, clinically testing the Rossoblu's defense. At the 58th minute Diogo Figueiras -who just entered in the game- innocently fouled Giorgio Chellini inside Genoa's penalty area. Pogba took the ball and executed the penalty with a lot of class. After this, Allegri's men managed the match smartly. It's hard to remember a really treating play by Genoa; nevertheless Mario Mandzukic and Cuadrado could easily put their names on the scoreboard with better finishes. Juventus was superior and deserves the victory. Now, it's time to hunt the championship leaders. LE PAGELLE Buffon 6 The Juventus captain was hardly tested. However, San Gigi always make everything looks easy. Litchsteiner 6.5 Combined well with Cuadrado in the right flank. Kept Diego Laxalt in check. Barzagli 6.5 Signature game for the "Great Wall of Barza." He was a metronome in the Bianconeri's defense. Chiellini 7 Won the penalty that meant Juve's second goal. Played a great game in defense. Evra 6.5 Managed the game with composure and experience. He enjoyed an easy afternoon. Sturaro 6.5 Stefano was a Ninja in this match. He seems invisible, yet he had a strong influence in Juventus midfield. Lamina 6 The French kid played a solid game in his debut; he covered a lot of grass and had adequate ball skills. My only concern is that he committed a lot of fouls. Pogba 7 A true leader in the pitch, always looking for the ball. He was a participant in both goals and executed the penalty masterfully. Cuadrado 7 The spark of Juventus' attack. It looks like he's really enjoying his time at Turin. Provoked fear and havoc in Genoa's defense. Mandzukic 5 Unfortunate performance by the Croatian. Looked slow and without concentration. He failed badly in a couple of scoring chances. Morata 6.5 Looked prepared to have another brilliant performance. He was forced to leave the pitch due to an injury. Subs Pereyra 7.5 Great game by the Argentinian. Entered in a very delicate situation and responded exceptionally. He was relevant with his playmaking ability and crafted Juventus first goal. Man of the match for me. Hernanes s/v Entered for Lamina in the final minutes. Helped to close the game with his skills and smarts. Zaza s/v Entered for Mandzukic and played his first official minutes with Juventus. Rarely touched the ball. Coach Allegri 6.5 Kudos to Max, who stayed with the 4-3-3 formation and debuted Mario Lamina. He reacted smartly to Morata's injury calling Pereyra. Once again the Livornian coach proved that he could adapt to any circumstance. Things I think I think Quoting our own Danny Penza: "injuries are stupid." Let´s hope Álvaro Morata is fine. I really miss you, Carlitos. This match should/could be in the cooler earlier. I'm a Mandzukic believer, but Juventus needs to be more cynical in attack - and not just today-. Lamina played a solid game today and proved that he can contribute. Please, Bayern, stay away! Juventus played with a pack of hounds in their midfield. They were really hard to pass. That said, I can't wait for Marchisio to return. So our 2015-16 season finally begins. Watch out Serie A! http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127

Sep 20, 2015 Juventus travelled to Genoa on Sunday afternoon, the Bianconeri in the unfamiliar position of needing a first Serie A win some four weeks into the season. They would do just that, however, comfortably seeing off Gian Piero Gasperini’s men 2-0 and finally getting their title defence properly underway. The visitors were undoubtedly boosted by an impressive midweek victory, collecting all three points in a difficult encounter with Manchester City. Speaking after the game, Alvaro Morata told reporters that he believed the Champions League result should provide the spark they had lost in their previous few outings. “The most important thing is that we got the win we dearly needed, and that gives us something to build upon,” the Spanish striker said, per the club’s official website. “Our season begins now.” He was proven correct, with Genoa providing little resistance to Massimiliano Allegri’s side. What follows is a look at the winners and losers from this clash, highlighting the best and worst performances from both teams. Winner: Paul Pogba (Juventus) Over the first few games, Paul Pogba had looked a little out of sorts, failing to match the impact he had previously been able to provide for the Juventus midfield. Massimiliano Allegri believed that came as a result of attempting to take on too much responsibility after a summer of upheaval. “In the end, Pogba is a 22-year-old guy,” the coach said at a recent press conference. “A 22-year-old cannot act and play like a 30-year-old. So he must play as he knows how to play and exploit his skills, of which he has many.” On Sunday he would do just that, forcing Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna into conceding an own goal to break the deadlock, then doubling Juve’s advantage with a confidently taken penalty. Loser: Armando Izzo (Genoa) While Pogba was everywhere here, it was an afternoon to forget for Armando Izzo, as the Genoa defender endured a horrible outing against the reigning champions. The 23-year-old was shown his first yellow card shortly before the half-hour mark and was subsequently sent off after 43 minutes for pulling down Juan Cuadrado. According to statistics from WhoScored.com, Izzo failed to register a single tackle or interception but committed four fouls before the referee gave him his marching orders and effectively ended the game as a contest. Winner: Mario Lemina (Juventus) Playing alongside Pogba and Stefano Sturaro in midfield, Sunday saw Mario Lemina make his debut for Juventus. The Frenchman arrived from Marseille on transfer deadline day, and the Bianconeri appear to have another fine young player in their midst after he turned in an impressive display. Shielding the defence well, Lemina anchored the side and played with a maturity beyond his years, while also showing how the team might look when Sami Khedira returns from injury to fulfill the same role. Loser: Simone Zaza (Juventus) While Lemina’s fine debut deserves much praise, sadly the same cannot be said of Simone Zaza, the striker also making his first appearance for Juventus against Genoa. Brought on in place of Mario Mandzukic, he was given just 10 minutes to show his ability but failed to do so in what should have been comfortable circumstances. Despite the visitors being two goals ahead against 10 men, Zaza managed to pick up a needless booking and incensed his coach, Massimiliano Allegri remonstrating with his player after a particularly wasteful shot. The Bianconeri need him to rediscover the form he showed at Sassuolo as quickly as possible, and with three competitions to play for, there will hopefully be plenty more opportunities for him to do just that. Winner: Juan Cuadrado (Juventus) For the third straight match, Juan Cuadrado was vital to Juventus, his running with and without the ball causing endless problems for the opposition defence. He also worked hard defensively, turning in the kind of display that Chelsea never seemed to draw from him during his short stint at Stamford Bridge. His presence in Turin affords Allegri the kind of tactical flexibility he did not have last term, providing the versatility to play in a number of roles and in a number of different formations. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127

Sep 20, 2015 Genoa made a strong start and matched Juve early on, but a rash tackle from Izzo reduced the home side to 10-men. Genoa were undone by a Lamanna own goal before Paul Pogba stepped up and converted from the spot to give Juve their first win of the 2015/16 season. Gigi Buffon 6.0 - Had precious little to do all game but was assured in his box and managed his defence well. Stephan Lichtsteiner 6.5 - A strong performance from the right-back who had a personal duel against Laxalt. More impressive in defensive than in attack Andrea Barzagli 6.5 - Didn’t have much to do but he was solid throughout alongside Chiellini. Giorgio Chiellini 6.5 - A very strong display at the back. Kept the Genoa defence very quiet and earned Juve the penalty that ultimately secured the result. Patrice Evra 6.5 - Bossed the left flank with his typical control and composure. Rarely let anything get by him and pushed forward every chance he could. Stefano Sturaro 6.0 - Solid but not spectacular. Defensively sound but lacked any real spark in the final third. Mario Lemina 6.5 - A slightly risky first half display quickly gave way to a mature and composed performance. Great tackles, good positioning, rarely let the ball get away from him but worked hard to win it back when he had to. Paul Pogba 7.0 - Played a part in both Juve’s goal, the first hitting the crossbar and rebounding in off the keeper, the second, a nicely taken penalty. Juan Cuadrado 7.5 - Absolutely bossed the right hand side and never stopped running at/through Genoa. The majority of Juve’s attacks all came through his superb play. Mario Mandzukic 6.0 - Held up play at times but was also immensely frustrating late in the game, failing to find the target or shooting straight at the keeper. Alvaro Morata 6.0 - Looked bright to start with but was substituted early on after injury. Sep 20, 2015 Paul Pogba feels Juventus are not missing summer departures Arturo Vidal, Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo this season because they play more as a team without them. The trio departed in the transfer window as the Serie A champions underwent many changes ahead of the current campaign. Pogba struggled to find his best form in the opening weeks of the season, but had a hand in both of his side's goals as they beat Genoa 2-0 on Sunday and he feels the team work has increased this term. "With Carlos, Arturo and Andrea we could rely on individual moments of brilliance. Now we play more as a team," Pogba told the club's official website. The 22-year-old took over the number 10 shirt from Tevez following the latter's return to Boca Juniors, thus following in the footsteps of compatriot Michel Platini, and he is determined to honour the jersey. "Taking on the number 10 is to follow in the footsteps of Michel Platini and several other Juventus greats. It's very important that I honour the shirt on the pitch, the club has shown a lot of faith in me," he added. "I need to keep working on my game, both in terms of build-up play and my runs off the ball. I need to put in strong performances both for the benefit of myself and that of the side." Juve's win over Genoa was their first in Serie A this campaign and the France international has urged his team-mates to keep it up in the weeks to come. "We haven't achieved anything yet. Until today we had just one point in the table, now we've four. We're happy with the win, but we need to keep picking up results. "We're just concentrating on ourselves right now. Sep 20, 2015 Massimiliano Allegri is confident Juventus are on their way back to the top of the table after they picked up their first Serie A win of the season on Sunday. The Bianconeri beat 10-man Genoa 2-0 to climb up the table after picking up just one point in their first three matches of the campaign. The reigning champions are now eight points behind league leaders Inter and while Allegri feels the San Siro club and Roma are genuine contenders this year, he insists his team are still one of the top teams in the league. "I always said that Inter are the favorites along with Roma and Juventus, but looking at the standings today, we are back," he said. "Everyone is going through the motions: Garcia is saying we are the favourites - the opposite of what he said last year. "We won because we played carefully and defended in an orderly fashion and we have suffered just one shot on goal. It is a well-deserved win, now we have to gradually get closer to the front runners. "There are 10 new players, so I cannot expect perfection right away. We did not concede a goal and that was important. "But we must improve how we manage the ball, especially when it's 11 against 10. We should have lowered the pace after Genoa's red card and then speed it up, instead we hurried too much and wanted to hit a shot after two or three moves." http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127
