JUVENTUS - FIORENTINA March 13, 2014 - 9:05 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Björn Kuipers (Netherlands) Kuipers for Juventus-Fiorentina Mar 11, 2014 Dutchman Bjorn Kuipers will officiate the Europa League Juventus-Fiorentina clash, while Porto-Napoli goes to Pavel Kralovec. AMAZONIAN The Europa League Round of 16 kicks off on Thursday with the first leg ties and there are three Italian clubs in action. Unfortunately, two of them are in the same game and that means one will be going home after this stage of the competition. The Juventus Stadium hosts the first leg of the Bianconeri’s clash with Fiorentina, which will be officiated by 40-year-old Dutch referee Kuipers. AMAZONIAN He doesn’t have a good record with Juve, as his only previous game with them was a 4-1 Europa League defeat at Fulham in 2010. Napoli visit Porto on Thursday and their match is handed to Czech referee Kralovec.

JUVENTUS - FIORENTINA March 13, 2014 - 9:05 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Björn Kuipers (Netherlands) Trap: Juve-Fiorentina hard to predict Mar 11, 2014 Giovanni Trapattoni is struggling to pick a winner between Juventus and Fiorentina, and enthused at Vincenzo Montella’s work. AMAZONIAN The veteran tactician has had spells on the bench with both clubs, who this week meet in the first leg of their Europa League Last 16 tie. “I cannot say what sort of game to expect, it is difficult to make a prediction,” Trapattoni has considered in La Repubblica on the encounter. “Juve have all the components of a great team, but Fiorentina will be motivated. Nothing can be ruled out, [but] Juve should win.” AMAZONIAN For the 74-year-old, Montella’s work at the Artemio Franchi has in particular caught his eye. “I believe that of Vincenzo and Fiorentina you can only say good things. I like Montella, he seems to me an intelligent guy and Fiorentina play very well. “Even when I hear him speak on television and in interviews, I like him a lot. AMAZONIAN “He’s having a brilliant career, moreover in a difficult and demanding city like Florence. “He has my congratulations and I’ll cross my fingers for him for Thursday.”

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Asamoah's Lovely Goal Makes The Difference It was a low quality game, but Juventus once again scraped away 3 points to get ever closer to a third straight Scudetto. Mar 11, 2014 If players ever needed additional motivation to play a high profile game at the top level, the Juventus Fiorentina game provided many before it even started. The "rematch" as many were calling it in the media, was supposed to be another cracker of a game between two very motivated teams. The first encounter against the two in October ended with Juventus suffering the first loss of the season after relinquishing a 0-2 lead at halftime in Florence. AMAZONIAN Unfortunately, as it is often the case, the quality of the game did not match the hype it followed. There was only one goal scored (to the previous 6 in October), there were no spectacular stories about players coming back from long knee injuries to carry teams to victories, and there was very little drama in front of either goal over the span of 90 minutes. Fortunately though, and this is by far the most important thing for us Bianconeri, the resulting outcome of the match meant three points, a 14th straight victory at home, to match a now 14-point lead over Roma in the race for the Scudetto. AMAZONIAN MATCH SUMMARY Both teams were playing without their marquee playmakers as Pirlo and Borja Valero were unavailable. This was definitely one of the main reasons the quality of the match was a tad bit lower than expected. Juventus, lining up Marchisio in Pirlo's role and Ogbonna in the center of defense, dominated the first 45 minutes. There weren't a ton of goal-scoring opportunities though, as the only notable one was in fact Asamoah's goal. The Ghanaian had seen plenty of the ball along the left flank in the first half (which was definitely by design with Pirlo not in the team) and after a couple shots on goal finally found his mark. Wiggling through 4 Fiorentina defenders, unusually for him he lined up a beautiful shot with his right foot that took the smallest of deflections and went in off the post. With just a few minutes left in the first half, it was the perfect time to strike and take the lead for Juventus. The second half, while many label it as another meltdown by Juventus, was actually very even up until 10 minutes from time. Juventus weren't sitting deep and inviting Fiorentina on, which I actually thought was pretty encouraging given how some of our other recent second half performances have gone. AMAZONIAN Fiorentina did get its chances to equalize though and it became very dangerous with the introduction of Mati Fernandez and Masto. Diakite had a goal disallowed offside, while Masto hit the crossbar of Buffon's goal with a close-range header. Bullet dodged, and a big one too. At the end of 90 minutes it was another well-fought victory for Juventus, though many will question if this type of play will be sufficient to continue being victorious in the Europa League as well. AMAZONIAN LE PAGELLE Buffon: 7 - Was laser focused throughout the whole match and you can really see him eager to lead our team in games against big teams. Had a couple good saves and was very attentive to rush out and clear a goal-scoring opportunity for Fiorentina in the second half. Barzagli: 6 - Didn't have his usual quality against Milan and the same story repeated against Fiorentina. He's not himself yet and he'll need a couple more games to get back to it. Vargas gave him more trouble than he should've. Ogbonna: 7 - I thought Ogbonna had a great game subbing in for Bonucci in the middle of the pack. Tidied everything up, tracked Gomez when needed, and made some great clearances. Chiellini: 7 - Our team is a different beast with him on the field. Despite Cuadrado's sneakiness and pace, Chiellini coped well and was at the right place at the right time on a few occasions. Lichtsteiner: 6 - Surprisingly, most of our build up play came along the left flank with Pogba and Asamoah in tandem. Lichtsteiner tried to cut in from his right side and he even floated in some crosses in early on, but his delivery was way off. Had a good chance in the first half that he scuffed as well. Vidal: 6 - Rarely do I give Vidal a 6, but he was very ineffective all day long. Got himself booked early and that kinda threw him off a bit. Marchisio: 6.5 - Did his best possible Pirlo impression in the regista role and did it decently well. Had the right ideas - played it simple and down the flanks most of the time with the occasional long ball forward. Pogba: 7 - Out of the three midfielders, he definitely stood out. Worked very hard to be useful in both attack and defense. He can still do much, much better - maybe he'll get his rest this Thursday against La Viola in the EL. ASAMOAH: 8 - By far Juve's best player of the night and the definite difference maker. Scored a lovely goal, but also had a few other shots that were dangerous prior. He welcomed the opportunity to see more of the ball with Pirlo unavailable. Tevez: 7 - He didn't score, but did everything possible to put himself in a position to do so. Worked tirelessly all game and recovered many balls with his pressing. Llorente: 6.5 - Not the best of games for Fernando who will most likely sit the next one out with Osvaldo back in the squad. Had some good touches and fought valiantly in the air, but wasn't able to create much in attack with Tevez. AMAZONIAN Subs: Caceres: sv Padoin: sv - Isla: sv - Coach: Conte: 7 - Prepared well for the absence of Pirlo and strategically focused the play down the flanks. He'll be seeing Fiorentina a lot more here soon so I'm sure he has a plan that if the players can execute, will see us through to the next round of the Europa League. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

Agnelli backs Scirea’s widow Mar 11, 2014 Andrea Agnelli has backed the widow of Juventus legend Gaetano Scirea for complaints against discriminatory chants, and also urged that focus is correct. AMAZONIAN Mariella Scirea has spoken this week of her desire to see her late husband’s name taken down from the south stand at Juventus Stadium that bears it, if discriminatory chants from the Juve Ultras it is home to do not stop. Reports from the giornalaccio rosa dello Sport alleged that there were anti-Semitic chants from a section of the Juve support during the weekend game against Fiorentina and the Bianconeri have been reported to the FIGC by prosecutors on that charge. Considering this today, the Bianconeri's President has backed Mariella, but also asked for perspective in coverage of the wider issue at hand. AMAZONIAN “It was a legitimate reaction - we are against all forms of discrimination," club President Agnelli has told reporters today. “The name of her husband is tied to the curva where the most passionate fans are and we are proud of this, but it takes a strong and unified message against all forms of discrimination, even if we also must not give too much resonance to certain marginal events. “Juventus have previously been punished with the closure of curva on the occasions of chants that have been heard by all. AMAZONIAN “On Sunday, myself and my colleagues have not heard anything, whilst, even if there is an audio file, I am surprised by the fact that, despite the stadium having advanced technology, we are unable to identify the few people that are responsible. “We must be careful not to emphasise certain situations, otherwise you are likely to give visibility to 20-30 people, who do not deserve it. “It is something else if the chants are clear - I and my colleagues, for example, did not hear it. The battle is also in the world of information, which must enhance positive initiatives. AMAZONIAN “I went to UNESCO to present the Juve project, I made a joke about Pogba and the next day the joke about Pogba was reported with great fanfare and nothing about the meeting at UNESCO.” Fiorentina fans are also facing disciplinary proceedings for fans who displayed on Sunday banners in reference to the Heysel tragedy. AMAZONIAN “A piece of paper written by a kid. One cannot emphasise things when at the stadium there are 30,000 people, otherwise it can create a spirit of emulation. “These are guys who do not know what Heysel is or what happened in Brussels.”

Chiellini: Italy controversy resolved Mar 11, 2014 Giorgio Chiellini believes that the controversy surrounding his inclusion in last week’s Italy squad has been resolved. AMAZONIAN Antonio Conte was not pleased with the defender being named in the Azzurri squad to face Spain after only just coming back from injury. But the centre-back has insisted that episode has been forgotten about. “These are situations and misunderstandings that can sometimes be created,” he told Sky Sport Italia. AMAZONIAN “We’re all friends. This has been resolved peacefully.” Chiellini then commented on Juventus’ bid for the Scudetto and Conte’s importance to the club. “We know we have two important weekends coming up. But we’ve made an important step towards the title. AMAZONIAN “We have a great advantage but we are aware that we can’t be complacent. “We try and take Conte on to the pitch with us. We all hope he stays with us. I can’t see a future without him.”

Madrid ask Juve for Pogba meeting Mar 10, 2014 Real Madrid have asked Juventus for a meeting to discuss the possibility of signing Paul Pogba, it’s suggested. AMAZONIAN El Confidencial report that Los Blancos have requested to meet with the Bianconeri hierarchy to enquire about the France international. The former Manchester United youngster has been heavily linked with a switch away from Turin this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain, the Spanish giants and his previous employers all supposedly keen. Marca claimed over the weekend that Madrid assistant Zinedine Zidane had set his sights of signing Pogba for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit. AMAZONIAN And El Confidencial believe that the wheels have been put in motion to start that process, by asking members of the Juve board to meet. Whether they will accept that proposal however, is another matter.

Europa League final against Napoli would be a 'dream' - Chiellini The Italy international is eager to seal continental glory in the final in Turin in the Spring and believes his side are firmly on course for a third-successive Serie A title. Mar 11, 2014 Giorgio Chiellini has insisted that Juventus are desperate to go all the way in the Europa League and he hopes for an all-Italian final against Napoli. AMAZONIAN The Turin giants meet Fiorentina in the round of 16 of the competition and Chiellini has made it clear that Juve are brimming with confidence ahead of Thursday's first leg. "We have belief that we can win the Europa League and we'll go for it right until the very end," the defender told reporters. "I think everyone's dream is for us to face Napoli in the final, because two Italian sides reaching that stage would be a point of pride for everyone." AMAZONIAN The defender also had his say on the Serie A title race and admitted that Juventus are sitting in pole position to win their third consecutive Scudetto are building up a significant lead over Roma. "We know that we've emerged victorious from two very important matches against opponents whose strength we were wary of. We had luck on our side but we also played well. AMAZONIAN "I think we've made an important step towards the Scudetto." Juventus currently hold a 14-point lead over second-placed Roma, who have a game in hand.

'Balotelli is our greatest talent, Pirlo is sensational' - Chiellini on his Italy team-mates The Juventus defender believes the striker can shine for Italy at this summer's World Cup, while lauding the midfield metronome as the man who draws the best out of the team. Mar 10, 2014 EXCLUSIVE Giorgio Chiellini believes that Mario Balotelli is Italy's greatest talent ahead of the World Cup finals in Brazil. AMAZONIAN The AC Milan striker, who scored twice against Germany in the semi-finals of Euro 2012, is set to lead the line for Italy again this summer, and Chiellini feels he can deliver once again for the Azzurri faithful. "Mario Balotelli is undoubtedly the greatest talent of Italian football," he told Goal. "His career so far has seen many ups and downs, but let's hope that at the World Cup he will lead his team in the way that all Italian fans want."

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Barzagli: Serie A title race not over yet The Italy international has warned that anything can still happen in the remainder of the season, while he was pleased with the Old Lady's defensive performance against Fiorentina. Mar 10, 2014 Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has stressed that the Serie A leaders cannot afford to rest on their laurels as he feels the race for the Scudetto is not over just yet. AMAZONIAN The champions hold a 14-point lead over second-placed Roma after Sunday's 1-0 win over Fiorentina and their rivals' defeat against Napoli, which prompted Rudi Garcia to concede the title race was effectively over. However, Barzagli has warned it is too soon to say the title race has been decided, telling the official Juve website: "We've got an excellent lead over Roma in the table, but the league campaign isn't over yet." Barzagli then went on to discuss his side's performance against Fiorentina and admitted he was thrilled with the Bianconeri's display in defence. AMAZONIAN "It's important to keep a clean sheet in these games. During a certain period it appeared that every opposition shot ended up as a goal," he said. "Even if it was with a bit of luck on our side, it's good that we're not conceding. The most crucial thing is the team's attitude." Juventus and Fiorentina meet again on Thursday in the Europa League round of 16. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Florenzi: Juve’s lead? No excuses Mar 9, 2014 Alessandro Florenzi says Roma do not feel pressure for second spot, as he admits Juventus in first deserve credit for their season. AMAZONIAN The Giallorossi’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday evening has extended the Bianconeri’s lead in the standings to 14 points and seen the Vesuviani close the gap on second to three points. “We played a great game, always on top, and the result is a little unfair,” considered Florenzi to Roma Channel after yesterday’s result. “Is there pressure now? It is on the others, we think to continuing on our path because we know we can get second. AMAZONIAN “Sometimes certain games are determined on the episodes, we lacked the final shot, the one that could have made the difference here. “We had significant absences, but we have seen that the squad is strong against a good team like Napoli. AMAZONIAN “Juventus? I do not want to create an excuse or anything, they are having a great season that not even they expected. “They may finish on 105 points for the season and they should be given credit, but we think to ourselves and not to look at others.” http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Roma have handed the title to Juventus, Garcia admits The Frenchman was frustrated that his side failed to take their chances in Sunday's defeat to Napoli and is concerned over the injury suffered by Kevin Strootman. Mar 9, 2014 Roma boss Rudi Garcia has conceded the Serie A title race is effectively over following his side's 1-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday. AMAZONIAN A late header from Jose Callejon saw the Partenopei seal maximum points and leave second-placed Roma 14 points adrift of leaders and reigning champions Juventus. "We played with character and maturity, so I don't think the defeat was deserved. We saw tonight that in football the best team doesn't always win," Garcia told Sky Sport Italia. "I am not worried, as you need a little bit of luck to score. Our shots went very close to the goal, whereas Napoli's chance hit the bar and went in. We shouldn't forget that [Pepe] Reina made some great saves. AMAZONIAN "It's true we can be more effective in attack, but we hadn't played this well in a while and to do so on Napoli's home turf is really impressive. "Maybe we have also lost some confidence and determination in attack, so we need to work on that. The goal is a good Napoli move, but it was simple to defend against. "Mathematically the Scudetto race isn't over, but realistically it is. There's a huge gap now and we have to win our next home game, with hopefully some players returning from injury. Francesco Totti will hopefully be available. AMAZONIAN "Of course I remain confident of second place. If we play like this, we will win many games for the rest of the season." Roma lost midfielder Kevin Strootman to a knee injury early in the encounter and Garcia admits he is concerned the Netherlands international could have suffered some serious damage. "The main concern is not the defeat, but Kevin Strootman," he added. "We hope that we haven't lost him for a while. He is in a lot of pain, the knee is swollen and he had a nasty knock, then sprained it a few minutes later." http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Juventus 1-0 Fiorentina: 6 Things We Learned Mar 9, 2014 Juventus picked up a good win against Fiorentina, gaining some revenge on the Viola after their defeat earlier in the season at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. AMAZONIAN The Bianconeri barely reached the heights that they are capable of, but they managed to grind out the points, as they have done for most of the season. Kwadwo Asamoah's outrageous piece of skill and powerful finish broke the deadlock, and Fiorentina never reacted. Here are six things we learned from the first of three matches between the sides inside two weeks. AMAZONIAN Conte Has a Tough Decision on Whether to Buy a Left Midfielder Antonio Conte has accommodated Asamoah on the left side since his move from Udinese. The fact that the Ghanaian was always a better player through the middle for the Zebrette suggested that the Bianconeri were wasting the player by pushing him out wide. But Asamoah has adapted well and is flourishing this season, suggesting that Juve may not need to invest in a left-sided player this summer, as was previously the talk from Juventini. AMAZONIAN Asamoah is adding a cutting edge to his game and looking more dangerous in the final third. It would be harsh if Conte were to invest in a new player to displace Asamoah, given his transition over the past couple of seasons. Now that the transition seems to have been completed, Juve can reap the benefits of a phenomenal athlete adding excellent tactical understanding to his game. AMAZONIAN Juve Will Be Too Strong for Fiorentina in the Europa League Juve proved on Sunday that they are a superior outfit to Fiorentina and that while the Viola managed to upset them earlier in the season in Florence, over two legs, it will be a very tough ask for Vincenzo Montella's men to even make it a close tie. Juve barely got out of second gear at the Juventus Stadium, and you sensed that with the league wrapped up, they will focus fully on the last 16 Europa League tie, meaning they will be an even tougher opponent for the Viola. There is animosity between the sides and the fans, which should make for a good spectacle, but ultimately, while they will be enjoyable matches, the outcome is unlikely to be a surprise. AMAZONIAN Montella Is Relying on Gomez Finding His Form to Save Their Season Montella must be worried, as the Viola have completely lost their cutting edge up front since Giuseppe Rossi picked up a serious injury. Mario Gomez has also suffered a long-term injury, and the German must return to form quickly in order to rescue Fiorentina's season. Alessandro Matri arrived from Milan in January, but it has not really worked, and without a trusted forward, Fiorentina are a blunt side. AMAZONIAN With their wonderful passing midfielders, sides will allow them to keep the ball in deep areas, knowing that if they mark their strikers tightly, they are unable to be able to score. Montella has toyed with the 4-3-3 and 3-5-2, searching for the best solution to upping their contributors in the goals column. The Coppa Italia final is something to keep in mind, but the league form needs to pick up, starting with Gomez returning to form. AMAZONIAN Fiorentina Need to Be Wary of Disintegrating Fiorentina have been battling a tough schedule in recent weeks, but the squad is thin, and the injuries have finally taken their toll on them. The Viola were always outsiders for third place but seemed to be clinging on to Napoli's coat tails, perhaps more to do with Rafael Benitez's side failing to open up a gap, rather than Montella's men maintaining pressure on their rivals with a great run of form. The Viola are sitting in fourth place, but Inter Milan have suddenly hit some form and are one point behind. AMAZONIAN While Parma are just a further point adrift and have gone 15 matches unbeaten in what will surely put Roberto Donadoni in contention for manager of the year. The Gialloblu actually have a game in hand, meaning that they could usurp both Inter and Fiorentina if they beat Roma when their game is rescheduled. It would be harsh on Fiorentina to slip down as low as sixth and potentially risk losing out on European football, as injuries have evidently played a part in the team fizzling out, but Montella must maintain focus. AMAZONIAN There is a Coppa Italia final to come, but the league form must drastically improve to give themselves the best chance of beating Napoli in May and capping off a great season. Failure to do so could mean huge disappointment and an ultimately poor season, despite the circumstances. AMAZONIAN Conte's Side on the Verge of Greatness Thanks to Their Fortress Juventus' success this season has been predicated on some remarkable home form. The Bianconeri have strung together 14 consecutive wins in the league at home, and that includes every match this season. They can create history by maintaining this devastating form to catch the record-holders Bordeaux, who achieved 18 wins in a row in 1985. AMAZONIAN David Amoyal @DavidAmoyal Juve is now 4 wins behind Bordeaux's 1984/85 team (18) for most home wins in a row in Europe's history That feat seems within in their grasp, with their next home matches in the league against Parma, Livorno, Bologna, Atalanta and Cagliari, who were the last side to take something off the Old Lady at home in the league. Parma will be the toughest hurdle, but the record is certainly achievable and can help legitimize Conte's claims that they are one of the greatest Juve sides of all time. AMAZONIAN Borja Valero Is Sorely Missed Borja Valero's suspension really hurt Fiorentina, and given that it came from a lack of discipline, Montella will be quietly seething. Despite the length of the ban handed out, which appeared to be inconsistent with other cases of a similar nature this season, Montella will know that the Spaniard's ill discipline has cost his side. Valero knits everything together superbly, picking the ball up from the deep-lying playmaker, David Pizarro, before weaving a way through the opposition's crowded midfield. AMAZONIAN Without him, the Viola became rather predictable, knowing that Mati Fernandez was the only midfielder who could move with the ball at feet, so Juve used tight marking in the middle of the mark and often doubled the Chilean to stop him from gaining a step and spinning into the space behind Juve's midfield. Valero should be extra motivated to return and make it up to his team-mates, starting in the Europa League against Juve next week. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Pasqual: Fiorentina will try to do better against Juventus in Europa League Mar 9, 2014 Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual has insisted that his team will try to do better against Juventus in their Europa League meeting on Thursday after failing to overcome them in the Serie A on Sunday. AMAZONIAN The Viola were defeated by the Bianconeri with a 1-0 result at Juventus Stadium on Sunday and although the 31-year-old isn’t fully dissatisfied with the Gigliati’s performance, he admits that they’ll be more concentrated for Thursday’s Europa League match in Turin. Pasqual spoke to Sky Sport Italia after Fiorentina’s loss to Juve about the match and commented on the recent return of Mario Gomez, who was out of the club’s line up for around five months with a knee injury. “The coach rarely speaks after the game,” said the Italian international. “It’s fair to analyse the challenge with a cool head. AMAZONIAN “There’s regret because we were beginning to play a good game in the second half. “Lack of courage in the first half? We struggled, we couldn’t dribble around like we usually can. We may have lacked a bit of speed in our manoeuvring. “Does playing with Gomez change our style of play? Yes, with Mario we always try to find the right time to put the ball into the middle. AMAZONIAN “He’s only recently returned after being out for five and a half months and he’ll take some time to return to 100 per cent. “What will we change on Thursday? The team will be much more concentrated, the goal we conceded even came accidentally. “We’ll play with everything we have in the next 180 minutes. In front we have a great team, we have found the key to overcoming Juventus and we’ll try to do something important.” http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Juventus taunt Fiorentina on Twitter Mar 9, 2014 Juventus taunted Fiorentina via Twitter following their 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. AMAZONIAN The Bianconeri emerged victorious thanks to a Kwadwo Asamoah strike and now face La Viola in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday. “Good, Fiorentina at lunch, see you in four days… for dinner,” the Tweet read. AMAZONIAN The two clubs will face each other another two times, both in the Europa League, with Fiorentina being the only team to have beaten Juve in Serie A this season. JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Fiorentina deserved draw against Juventus, says Montella The Viola coach was not impressed with his side's display before the break in their 1-0 defeat, but feels their second-half showing merited at least a point. Mar 9, 2014 Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has bemoaned his side's slow start in Sunday's 1-0 Serie A defeat at Juventus and feels they could have got a positive result with a bit more luck. AMAZONIAN Kwadwo Asamoah scored the only goal of the game three minutes before the break as Juventus dominated possession in the opening period. The visitors showed a slight improvement after the interval but were unable to find a way back into the match, although Montella believes they performed well enough to earn a share of the spoils. "When you play against Juventus, a lot depends on them," the former striker is quoted as telling Sky Sport Italia. AMAZONIAN "We were forced to sit very deep in the first half, but despite that Juve didn't really have that many scoring opportunities. It wasn't the game we wanted to play, though, and we played higher up the pitch in the second half with a few chances to equalise. It's a shame. "Everyone knows Juve are a very strong side in every aspect, so in all honesty I thought Fiorentina played a very good second half and could've equalised. "The team slowly gained confidence and was under less intense pressure. I am satisfied with the reaction after an unusual first half for us, as we rarely play with that attitude, but we need faith and optimism." AMAZONIAN The teams meet again in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday, with the second leg taking place on March 20, and Montella is certain his charges will be better prepared for the coming encounters. JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Fiorentina troubled Juventus, admits Asamoah The Ghana international was overjoyed after his goal extended the Bianconeri's lead over Roma to 14 points. Mar 9, 2014 Kwadwo Asamoah has conceded that Fiorentina made life difficult for Juventus after the Serie A leaders ran out 1-0 winners on Sunday. AMAZONIAN The Ghana international played a key role in the win by scoring the only goal of the game shortly before the break as the Bianconeri moved 14 points clear of second-placed Roma, who play Napoli on Sunday night. "It wasn’t easy to play against a top side like Fiorentina, so I’m pleased with the result," the midfielder told the official Juventus website. "We gained three important points here." AMAZONIAN The 25-year-old then went on to reflect on his goal and admitted that he did not expect his right-footed strike to go in. "The boss often tells me, ‘Try cutting inside’. I’m giving it a go all the time at the moment and today it went well. AMAZONIAN "I’ve never scored a right-footed goal before, let alone one as good as that." Asamoah has netted twice in 24 Serie A appearances so far this term. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 I'll be nervous watching Roma-Napoli, admits Conte The Bianconeri boss says he will watch the game but is well aware of just how important the outcome of the contest could be in his side's bid to retain their Serie A title. Mar 9, 2014 Juventus boss Antonio Conte has revealed he will be nervous when he sits down to watch the clash between Roma and Napoli. AMAZONIAN The Bianconeri ran out 1-0 winners over Fiorentina on Sunday thanks to a Kwadwo Asamoah goal, to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to 14 points. “Will I watch the game? I can’t eat when I’m nervous! We will watch it in a relaxed and satisfied manner, because we have done our job," said Conte. "There are still 11 rounds to go, but we are 50 per cent champions of Italy. We’re going at an extraordinary pace, but they’re not letting up behind us either." AMAZONIAN Sunday's victory maintained Juve's 100% home record in the league - they have won 14 of their last 14 games at Juventus Stadium - and Conte admitted he is impressed with the relentless nature of his players. He added: “We did well to win the first Scudetto unbeaten, while last season only Inter and Sampdoria got the better of us. This term we are pretty winning too." AMAZONIAN The Old Lady face Fiorentina a further two times over the next few weeks as the two sides meet in the last-16 of the Europa League and Conte is confident ahead of their European tie. "It won’t be difficult to prepare for that game because we have reference points and know them well. It will be a battle." http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Player Ratings Kwadwo Asamoah's strike secured the Bianconeri's 14th consecutive home win this season and temporarily opened up a 14-point advantage over Roma at the Serie A summit. Mar 9, 2014 JUVENTUS Gianluigi Buffon - The Italy international was barely tested by Fiorentina throughout the game. Andrea Barzagli - Looked susceptible to the pace of Vargas in the early stages but as the pair contested more aerial balls he more frequently came out on top. Angelo Ogbonna - Played at the heart of the defensive trio and did not put a foot wrong all afternoon as he helped limit the influence of Gomez on the game. Giorgio Chiellini - On his return to the starting line-up he showed his quality with a very physical display that made it close to impossible for the Viola to penetrate his defence. Stephan Lichtsteiner - Added some much-needed width down the right and combined with his team-mates well, but he did not supply enough crosses for the strikers. Paul Pogba - The Frenchman was exceptionally dynamic in midfield, putting in strong challenges and also getting into the box to support Tevez and Llorente. Claudio Marchisio - Attempted to fill the boots of the suspended Pirlo by spraying the raking passes from midfield. His vision was commendable but his execution was not always accurate. Arturo Vidal - Picked up an early booking after a couple of clumsy challenges and it set the tone for his rather cumbersome display. KWADWO ASAMOAH - Was a constant danger out on the left, supplying numerous crosses and efforts on goal, one of which broke the deadlock after a sublime piece of individual skill. Carlos Tévez - The Argentine worked very hard for his team, closing the ball down and make regular runs in behind the defence. However, he did not test Neto enough. Fernando Llorente - Attempted to bring his team-mates into the game as often as possible, but did not do so to the same extent in the second half. He too did not worry Neto, though. AMAZONIAN Substitutions Martín Cáceres - Replaced Lichtsteiner in the 79th minute. Simone Padoin - Brought on for Marchisio in the 88th minute. Mauricio Isla - Came on for Tevez with eight minutes remaining. AMAZONIAN FIORENTINA Neto - Made a good save from Asamoah's deflected shot in the first half but could do nothing to keep the Ghanaian's goal out. He was confident when coming off his line. Modibo Diakite - Appeared nervous in the early stages as he sent a pass straight out of play but he soon collected himself and proved a formidable opponent at right-back. Gonzalo Rodríguez - The Argentine showed good awareness to make a number of blocks when Juve got in behind. He closed quickly in a well-organised defence. Stefan Savic - The Montenegrin stuck close to Llorente and did not allow him much room in and around the box as the Viola stayed compact. Manuel Pasqual - Restricted the influence of Lichtsteiner in the wide areas and pushed on to help supply the forwards with much-needed ammunition. Anderson - The Brazilian did his share of running in the centre of the park but he did not get close enough to Gomez to bring him into the action. David Pizarro - The Chilean was caught in possession in dangerous areas on a couple of occasions but was let off the hook by Tevez both times. Alberto Aquilani - The Italian failed to offer enough in terms of creativity for his side and pinged too many aimless passes over the top of the defence. Juan Cuadrado - Started brightly with some clever play on the right as he utilised his blistering pace to full effect. He created openings but none were taken. Mario Gomez - Received minimal service throughout the game and was often found chasing lost causes. He saw one header drop wide of the post from his best opportunity. Juan Vargas - Made a couple of bright runs in behind Barzagli early on but was not picked out often enough and therefore was unable to make a real impact on the game. AMAZONIAN Substitutions Rafal Wolski - Brought on for Pizarro in the 65th minute and had one effort flash just wide of the post. Mati Fernández - Came on for Anderson in the 57th minute and got Fiorentina playing much better football with his impressive passing. Ryder Matos - Replaced Gomez in the 77th minute and saw his header come back off the bar. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Initial reaction and random observations Mar 9, 2014 Juventus is developing a pattern. It could be viewed as good, it could be viewed as bad. Regardless, said pattern was on full display at Juventus Stadium during Sunday's lunchtime throwdown between Juve and Fiorentina. AMAZONIAN Yeah, it was one of those first halves. But it was also one of those second halves. The difference between the Juventus of the first 45 minutes compared to the Juventus of the second 45 minutes was as noticeable as the awesomeness of Kwadwo Asamoah's stunning goal. Juventus' shots towards the Fiorentina goal were firing high and wide in the first half, but the main thing was that they were obviously creating plenty of opportunities. The second half, though, it was the Juve we've seen after the break the last few games. Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella clearly changed his team's approach, and it showed. It was almost as if the teams switched roles at halftime without telling anybody. But sometimes you just need a shot to clang off the upright. When you're good, you get luck going your way, I guess. AMAZONIAN Antonio Corsa @AntonioCorsa Il commento di Buffon al palo di Matos. Alas, three points is three points and that's exactly what Juventus got against Fiorentina. Home turf defended again. The revenge tour was completed. Preparations for a second straight home match against Fiorentina on Thursday will start right about...now. Or now. AMAZONIAN Random thoughts and observations • Kwadwo Asamoah is making me rethink the notion that Juventus need to sign a new starting left wingback this summer. He has been absolutely fantastic the last couple of months. It's the exact opposite of how he played during the second half of the season last year. How much that had to do with the busyness of the Africa Cup of Nations I don't really know, but it's pretty easy to see that Asamoah hasn't been this good form-wise since his first couple of months in a Juventus jersey. And that's never going to be a bad thing. Oh, one more thing: HE SCORED A GOAL WITH HIS RIGHT FOOT. • Juventus' home form this season: WWWWWWWWWWWWWW Pretty. 14 games at Juventus Stadium, 14 wins. • This stat will make you think a little bit. OptaPaolo @OptaPaolo 49.1% - Fiorentina kept 49.1% of ball possession vs Juventus: their lowest percentage this season. Exertion. AMAZONIAN If that's Fiorentina's lowest possession percentage this season, holy cow. I don't know what's more impressive in what comes out of that number — that Juventus kept Fiorentina to that, or that 49.1 percent possession became the lowest of the season. Impressive in both aspects, really. • Leonardo Bonucci getting some much deserved rest gave Angelo Ogbonna to play in the center of the Juve defense for the first time in a little while. And he definitely took advantage of it. There seems to be a nervy moment or two whenever Ogbonna plays, but not Sunday afternoon. He was as reliable as he's ever been this season. He didn't play on the ball as much as Bonucci does because Juve were really putting an emphasis on attacking down the wings, but Ogbonna was one of his team's best players on Sunday. • Claudio Marchisio with another unspectacular yet solid game as the fill-in for Andrea Pirlo as Juve's regista. He's done one hell of a job adapting to his new role and it just seems that he's getting better and better at it as he becomes more comfortable in it. AMAZONIAN • Gigi Buffon had one big save to make at it wasn't technically a save. Don't lie if your heart rate doubled when you saw San Gigi rushing off his line and out of the box to clear the ball. I know mine did. • Unbeaten run currently stands at 19 games and counting. Juventus' lead atop Serie A currently stands at 14 points going into the afternoon and evening matches (you would like to think Roma vs. Napoli should be rather interesting). That's all I got for now. The sun is about to rise here in California and I'm going back to bed. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Juventus do just enough to grab a win against Viola Mar 9, 2014 Yet another victory for Juventus, and this one was to equal Torino's record of 14 consecutive home wins from 1975-76. It may not have been an especially dazzling performance against Fiorentina, but when the same opponents must be faced twice more over the next 10 days -- in the last 16 of the Europa League -- energy needed to be preserved. AMAZONIAN Kwadwo Asamoah and his delicious feet ensured a 1-0 victory and the full three points to keep Juve at the top of the table. Fiorentina's strategy was obvious in the first 45 minutes. They wanted to contain the pressure by defending deep in their own half and then making the most of their pace when they won back possession. Defensively, they succeeded in frustrating Juventus, who struggled to play through them. Shutting down the spaces through the middle and defending very narrowly, the Bianconeri explored their avenues on the wings in the hope of stretching the back-line before pinging a ball into the box. In failing through that strategy, Antonio Conte's men were always looking for that vertical pass over the top towards Fernando Llorente, who could hold the ball up and allow Carlos Tevez to make the right run. AMAZONIAN A lack of quality in Fiorentina's back-line made for an entertaining game. Modibo Diakite for one, had a torrid time trying to keep up with the Old Lady attack, over committing at the wrong times or simply too slow to halt a movement. Thus it came as no surprise that the goal Juventus did manage, came from the left, via Asamoah, who showed delightful skill to cut in and strike. Once Fiorentina did win back possession, they struggled to come out of their own half, usually surrendering the ball back to one of the Bianconeri's midfielders, who pressed incessantly. Simply unable to make their time on the ball count, Fiorentina were forced into giving up on the notion of attack in order to contain Juve. Wasteful, careless and surprisingly poor in controlling the ball, the only chances Vincenzo Montella's men did have came when they committed a foul, or a perceived foul, to launch a quick attack before Juve had adequately rearranged themselves at the back. Even then, wrong decisions were made and Viola striker Mario Gomez was left ruing the little service he was given. As for Juve, they enjoyed the ample space and time offered to Claudio Marchisio to pick out the right passes into the front areas. Rarely closed down, Fiorentina concentrated on marking the potential targets of his passes as opposed to cutting out the service altogether. AMAZONIAN In the second half we saw the Viola allowed more time on the ball as they attempted to start constructing attacking passages of play. Gomez squandered an excellent chance when he was free to head in an equaliser. Juventus, unfortunately, seemed to be too content with their 1-0 lead and adopted a relaxed approach in the latter half of the game. Pleased with possessing the ball as opposed to pushing through and creating goal scoring opportunities, they began to demonstrate imprecision with their passes, whilst both sides were guilty of seemingly dropping their focus. However, this quickly changed when Montella began to make his substitutions and the Viola made the most of Juve's drop in intensity to start forcing errors from the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and creating good chances at goal. Gianluigi Buffon had to remain incredibly alert as he was forced into acting as a sweeper to rescue a back-line that erred again during a dangerous Viola move. AMAZONIAN Direct runs by Juan Cuadrado and Ryder Matos' movement and tenacity made for a nervy ending but Juventus managed to hold on and register all three points to keep them in first place. It was indeed puzzling to see that Conte's men had not learned their lesson from the last time they played the Viola, dropping their intensity to allow Fiorentina to grow in confidence. Perhaps this was an exercise in preserving energy, expending only the necessary amount and nothing more to make for an interesting Europa League tie. Only time will tell as the two face-off again on Thursday night. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Asamoah goal enough for Bianconeri to avenge Florence defeat Mar 9, 2014 Juventus defeated Fiorentina 1-0 at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Serie A. AMAZONIAN The Bianconeri gained revenge for their astonishing defeat in Florence back in October as a first half goal from Kwadwo Asamoah was enough to see off the challenge of the Viola. Although Vincenzo Montella had the fit again Mario Gomez to call on, the absence of the suspended Borja Valero and long-term injury victim Giuseppe Rossi seemed vital against a determined Juventus side despite themselves missing Andrea Pirlo. Despite the absence of the suspended Italian international it was the Bianconeri who controlled the opening exchanges, pressing the vistors straight from kick-off and creating the first clear chance when Fernando Llorente played in Arturo Vidal, but after supplying the onrushing Stephan Lichtsteiner the Swiss international sliced well wide after being forced onto his left foot. AMAZONIAN While the Viola seemed content to stifle the Juventus attacks they did slowly begin making their way into the game with Anderson trying to impress in midfield, snapping at the heels of the opposition and trying drive the team forward. With Antonio Conte’s side struggling to play their way through the Viola it was a more direct approach that nearly brought the breakthrough as Claudio Marchisio played a ball over the top of the defence for Carlos Tevez who’s attempt to control the ball saw it trickle past the post despite appearing offside. On 26 minutes Juventus went even closer when Asamoah met a deep cross sweetly on the volley, but Neto showed great reflexes to readjust his body and palm away when Alberto Aquilani’s outstretched boot nearly deflected the ball past him. AMAZONIAN With their constant domination looking destined to give the Old Lady the lead a corner kick was excellently flicked on at the near post by Paul Pogba, but Juan Vargas just managed to rise high enough to head away and stop Vidal nodding into an empty net. Just before half-time Juventus had their advantage through Asamoah, the Ghanaian with a wonderful piece of skill to cut in from the left, and although surrounded by several Fiorentina defenders fired off a shot that took a slight deflection off the leg of David Pizarro and flew in off Neto’s left post. Highlighting the visitors meagre attempts to test the Gianluigi Buffon during the opening period was the fact that their only attempt was a blocked Aquilani shot from some 30 yards from goal. AMAZONIAN Although the second half started following a similar path Fiorentina finally created a second attempt on the Juventus goal only for Gomez to completely head a Manuel Pasqual cross off target six yards from goal. With Juventus seemingly willing to defend their one goal lead and Fiorentina failing to replicate the quality that they have shown on numerous times this season the game as a contest looked destined to fade away, as is the Viola’s hopes of catching Napoli in third and a chance of Champions League qualification. However, as the clock ticked down Fiorentina nearly drew level when Ryder Matos, on for the ineffectual Gomez, met a Rafal Wolski flick-on yards from goal but could only direct his header against the crossbar as Juventus had their victory. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111

JUVENTUS 1 - 0 FIORENTINA Kwadwo Asamoah (42′) March 9, 2014 - 12:30 PM Juventus Stadium — Turin Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 38000 Juventus scrape past Fiorentina A first-half goal from Kwadwo Asamoah was just enough for Juventus to secure a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in this afternoon's Serie A clash. Mar 9, 2014 Fiorentina kept possession in the opening stages, but the home side began to push forward in search of an early goal. AMAZONIAN After 15 minutes, Juve had the first real chance when Arturo Vidal set up Stephan Lichtsteiner, however the full back's left-footed strike went wide of the mark. Soon after, Carlos Tevez had an speculative effort from the edge of the area, but his strike didn't trouble the goalkeeper and went well over the bar. Claudio Marchisio found Tevez again on 24 minutes with an intelligent pass, the Argentine connected with the cross, but the finish was poor. AMAZONIAN Juve continued to press the away side and came close again through Asamoah, who latched onto a pass and saw his powerful strike saved by the goalkeeper. Fiorentina worked an opening for Juan Vargas, but his strike from distance was blocked well by an alert defence. Juve eventually took the lead on 43 minutes when Asamoah cut inside and burst into the box before firing a shot which looped into the net to make it 1-0. AMAZONIAN The intensity of the game seemed to drop in the second half as both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball. The away side had a chance on the hour mark when Manuel Pasqual picked out Mario Gomez, but the striker fired his shot high over the bar. Paul Pogba created himself some space on 70 minute, but his strike was straight at the goalkeeper and easily kept out. AMAZONIAN Juve struggled to create anything going forward as the tempo of the game continued to stutter. Fiorentina had a huge chance to equalise on 80 minutes when Matos sent a header towards goal and hit the crossbar. The away side began to push for a late equaliser, however Antonio Conte's men held on and stood firm in defence to secure the points. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
