  1. Former referee Marelli criticises decisions in Verona 1-1 Juventus Former referee Luca Marelli has hit out at the controversial refereeing decisions in Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Verona this evening. Verona equalised from the penalty spot after Francisco Conceicao’s opener, with an albeit soft penalty given for a handball from Juventus wing back Joao Mario. It was a harsh penalty and one which many, including Juventus head coach Igor Tudor, felt should not have been given. ............ Marelli said: “The penalty was awarded after a VAR review for a touch by Joao Mario’s arm.” “The magnifying glass shows us Joao Mario’s attitude, he closes his eyes and the ball suddenly drops,” he continued, “I disagree with the decision: it was an unexpected ball and shouldn’t be punishable. He can’t know where the ball went.” ............ Verona goalscorer Gift Orban was also the centre of another controversy, when he made contact with an elbow to the face of Bianconeri defender Federico Gatti. On this incident, Marelli said “The challenge is open to debate. Rapuano called for a yellow but VAR didn’t call it back.” “Orban isn’t looking at the ball,” Marelli continued, “it looks like he’s aiming at his head. The blow wasn’t direct but also touched the shoulder, the correct decision would have been a red card.” Finally, the former referee concluded “The yellow is a discount on the punishment he deserved. VAR might not have intervened to assess whether the player goes with a closed fist or an open hand: in case of the former, it’s considered violent conduct.” ............ . 2. Bremer suffered a physical issue in Juventus post-match training Juventus defender Gleison Bremer gave the travelling fans in Verona a real scare as he went to the ground during the team’s post-match training. The 28-year-old regained his automatic starting role since the start of the season after managing to overcome an ACL injury that kept him out of action for around 10 months. ............ As usual, the Bianconeri held a swift training session after the contest for those who either didn’t feature in the contest, or were only given brief cameos. The session witnessed a scary moment, as Bremer was no longer able to continue, and was seen sitting on the ground while talking with members of the medical staff. This was a particularly concerning sight, as the centre-back’s physical condition has been under great scrutiny for months, as is the case for players who return from long layoffs. ............ The Juventus sources insist that Bremer hasn’t suffered a new injury. Instead, it was only a case of muscle fatigue. Therefore, Tudor and the rest of the technical staff will be hopeful of a swift recovery ahead of Saturday’s big clash against Atalanta at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. ............ . 3. Verona 1-1 Juventus – Bianconeri coach Tudor hits out at ‘shameful’ refereeing Juventus fell flat to a 1-1 draw with Verona today, in a controversial game marred by two refereeing incidents. The Bianconeri led the game through Francisco Conceicao before a harsh penalty was given against Joao Mario for handball. ............ Tudor slammed referee Antonio Rapuano and his team: “The penalty that was given is shameful,” the coach began, “how can you… if someone doesn’t see the ball, what is he supposed to do?” The Croatian continued his tirade, “These kinds of penalties don’t exist. Only people who have never played football could give that. It’s a shameful rule.” ............ “Then there’s the red card for the foul against Gatti,” the coach said, “I was right there, I saw it myself.” Gatti took an elbow to the face from Gialloblu goalscorer Gift Orban, yet no red card was given. “He didn’t charge, that’s how you have to go in, I’ve never seen two decisions like that”, Tudor said, “I don’t know what to say. And then, it has to be said, we lacked energy today, even though we prepared at our best.” The reporter then showed the coach an image of Orban’s elbow on Gatti, “I mean, if you don’t give a red for that, I don’t know what you give a red for. He wasn’t even looking… if that’s not a red, honestly, it’s a disgrace.” Tudor doubled down on his comments “A disgrace. With VAR, today, these two decisions – no – I don’t want to make excuses, but in the end matches are decided like this.” ............ “We put a lot into these three matches,” Tudor said in reference to the 4-3 win over Inter, 4-4 draw with Dortmund and today’s game against Verona, “so then the energy ends up being lacking.” He continued, “The lads gave everything, they wanted to push. In some situations we could have done better but I’m not angry: we have strengths and weaknesses, you can’t win every game. We’ll analyse everything properly.” ............ . 4. Verona 1-1 Juventus – Conceicao blames disappointing draw on tiredness Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao scored today on his return from injury but it was not enough as the Bianconeri fell flat in a 1-1 draw with Verona. ............ “We’re a great team that plays in all competitions,” the Portuguese forward began, “so it’s normal to be a little more tired than the other teams. We knew it would be difficult here so it’s only normal that we wanted to do better – but unfortunately we didn’t manage it.” ............ In an attempt to identify where Juventus went wrong today, Conceicao said “We knew Verona were strong at home but we lost a few too many balls,” he claimed, “This can be explained by the fact we play every three days.” On head coach Igor Tudor’s faith in him, the winger said “We’re all strong. I do my best to make things difficult for the coach, then it is up to him to decide.” ............ . Read more -> https://football-italia.net/verona-1-1-juventus-conceicao-tiredness/
  5. Player Ratings: Verona 1-1 Juventus – Goalscorers Orban & Conceicao highlights in drab affair Verona battled hard to a 1-1 draw with Juventus this evening, as the Gialloblu put an end to the Bianconeri’s 100% start to the season. ............ Verona 1-1 Juventus – Player Ratings Verona: Montipo 6.5; Nunez 6.5, Nelsson 6.5, Frese 6; Bradaric 5.5, Akpa Akpro 5.5 (Niasse N/A), Serdar 6, Bernede 5.5, Belghali 7 (Kastanos N/A); Nascimento 5.5 (Sarr 6), Orban 7.5 ............ Juventus: Di Gregorio 6.5; Kelly 6.5, Gatti 6.5, Kalulu 6; Joao Mario 5.5 (Zhegrova N/A), Locatelli 6 (Koopmeiners 5.5), Thuram 6.5 (Adzic 6), Cambiaso 6; Yildiz 6, Conceicao 7.5 (David 6); Vlahovic 5 (Openda 6). Best Juventus player: Francisco Conceicao – On his return from an injury suffered on international duty with Portugal, the tricky winger impressed. He scored the Bianconeri’s opener and was dangerous throughout his seventy minutes on the pitch. The Bianconeri looked far less dangerous without him – the Portuguese forward showing lots of confidence in taking on his man. Lowest Juventus rating: Dusan Vlahovic – Whilst Joao Mario was also massively underwhelming today, it is the Serbian who struggled. He was given the spot in the starting eleven as a reward for his fine form but he seems a different player when coming off the bench. The forward was limp and hardly touched the ball before being taken off just before the hour mark. Juventus coach: Igor Tudor 6 – Tudor made the right subs today but they did not have his intended effect on the game. The coach brought on Openda for a struggling Vlahovic but Derby d’Italia hero Adzic came on for Frenchman Khephren Thuram and the Bianconeri’s momentum wavered. Was let down by his players today but also really needs to figure out his optimal front line. . Read more -> https://football-italia.net/ratings-verona-1-1-juventus-orban-conceicao/
  6. Determined Verona puts a halt to Juventus winning streak Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Verona this evening in a contest that proved frustrating for the visitors, as the hosts not only resisted but also came close to claiming a surprise victory. Coming off the back of two high-scoring matches, there was an expectation that Juventus would place greater emphasis on defensive stability in this encounter. Instead, Verona approached the game with determination, eager to test themselves against a top side and to show they could stand toe to toe with the Bianconeri. ............ Juventus took the lead through Francisco Conceição, who marked his return with a well-taken goal. At that stage, the momentum appeared to shift firmly in their favour, with Juve enjoying greater control and pressing forward in search of a second. Verona, however, were not easily subdued. Their persistence was rewarded when a penalty was awarded, and Gift Orban stepped up to convert confidently, restoring parity. The Nigerian forward had been lively throughout, causing frequent problems for Juventus, and his equaliser reflected his influence. ............ The hosts were disciplined in defence, limiting space for Juventus’ creative players. Goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò produced a particularly outstanding save to deny Dušan Vlahović, underlining Verona’s determination not to allow the visitors a second breakthrough. Although Juventus maintained pressure, Verona’s defensive organisation was impressive. They even thought they had taken the lead when the ball was put into the net, but their effort was ruled out, to the relief of the Bianconeri. ............ . 7. Tudor aiming to match Trapattoni and Allegri record in Verona vs. Juventus Igor Tudor has an opportunity to match an encouraging record set previously only by Giovanni Trapattoni and Massimiliano Allegri when Juventus take on Hellas Verona away from home in Serie A on Saturday evening. ............ Juventus currently sit at the top of the Serie A table, level on points with Napoli after three matches. Both sides boast the maximum possible nine points. For Juve, those victories have come against Parma, Genoa and rivals Inter. ............ Igor Tudor is now looking to become just the third Juventus coach to win four Serie A matches in a row at the start of their first full campaign in charge. Encouragingly, the last two coaches to do so, Trapattoni and Allegri, both went on to win the Scudetto by the end of those seasons. ............ . 8. Maurizio Setti reveals what differentiates Tudor from other coaches Former Verona president Maurizio Setti has offered insights into his experience of working with Igor Tudor, the coach he appointed during the 2021/2022 season. Setti’s remarks shed light on Tudor’s character, professionalism, and values, which continue to resonate in his current role at Juventus. ............ At the conclusion of that campaign, Verona were in a difficult financial position and needed to sell key players to remain sustainable. Setti explained that he was transparent with Tudor about the situation and even advised him to consider moving on to a bigger club. Rather than simply staying in his position and collecting his salary, Tudor chose a different path. He tore up his contract, saving Verona significant funds at a crucial time. Recalling the moment, Setti recently said: “I’ll always have a special memory of Tudor. Let’s start with one thing: he’s a very calm man. He lives life better than other coaches I’ve had. At the end of the year, when we met and I explained to him that I’d have to sell the big players, his contract had already been automatically renewed after we stayed up. I told him, ‘I advise you not to stay here, because I don’t know how many players he’ll be forced to sell.’ He looked at me, hugged me, and tore up the contract, giving up the money. I’ll never forget it. A month later, Marseille called him, and I wrote to him: ‘God sees and provides, life is taking you to the Champions League.’ Tudor is a man of substance, a rare person to find in the world of football.” ............ Such values remain evident in his career today. At Juventus, Tudor has handled speculation surrounding his position with composure, even when reports suggested the club were considering a return for Antonio Conte. His calm demeanour and consistent leadership have earned him admiration from both players and supporters. Now firmly established as Juventus’ manager, Tudor is delivering strong results while maintaining the same qualities that impressed Setti during their time together at Verona. He is demonstrating that he is not only capable of building strong relationships within the squad but also of providing stability and focus during challenging moments. ............ . 9. Preview: Hellas Verona vs Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups After a total of 15 goals across their last two matches, entertainment should be guaranteed when Serie A giants Juventus visit Hellas Verona on Saturday evening. The Bianconeri followed a thrilling Derby d'Italia with an incredible home draw against Borussia Dortmund, and they will now aim to extend their flawless league record. Match preview Rising from the ashes deep into stoppage time, Juventus somehow stole a point from their first Champions League fixture on Tuesday, defying Dortmund at the end of an eight-goal second half. Having previously conceded a penalty as Juve went 4-2 down on 86 minutes, Lloyd Kelly was ultimately his team's saviour 10 minutes later, heading home to make it four-all. That crucial intervention followed the English defender's opener in a similarly chaotic Derby d'Italia last week, when the Bianconeri beat arch-rivals Inter Milan in Turin. On that occasion, young substitute Vasilije Adzic popped up with a last-gasp winner, making it 4-3 to the hosts and breaking Inter's hearts. Both games were a far cry from the sterile football served up by former Bianconeri bosses Massimiliano Allegri and Thiago Motta, but current coach Igor Tudor may seek more control this weekend. Heavy favourites, Juve will head to Stadio Bentegodi having won their opening trio of league fixtures for the first time in seven years, following previous wins over Parma and Genoa. ............ Not only did the Serbian striker score twice as a substitute in midweek, he has previously notched six Serie A goals against Verona. Elsewhere, Andrea Cambiaso can return to the left flank after completing a domestic suspension, and Francisco Conceicao has resumed full training after missing the goal-packed clash with Dortmund. ............ 10. Juventus is not getting any closer to keeping Dusan Vlahovic Dusan Vlahovic is showing that he should not be underestimated, despite Juventus’ unsuccessful efforts to move him on during the summer transfer window. The Serbian forward has responded impressively, becoming the club’s leading scorer this season and reinforcing his value at a crucial time. ............ Vlahovic’s ability to adapt and deliver under pressure has highlighted his determination to succeed, regardless of the speculation surrounding his future. By repeatedly stepping up in important moments, he has rebranded himself as a player who thrives when called upon, giving Juventus a reliable weapon in their attacking arsenal. His consistency in front of goal demonstrates not only quality but also a strong mentality, qualities that underline his significance for the team in the current campaign. Yet, despite this fine form, signs point towards an eventual parting of ways between striker and club. His contract situation, coupled with external interest, continues to fuel speculation that his time in Turin may soon be coming to an end. ............ Vlahovic appears far closer to leaving than to staying, with Barcelona and Inter Milan both monitoring his situation carefully. The report suggests that, regardless of his current importance, Juventus may find itself unable to resist pressure if the striker demands terms that exceed the club’s capacity. Should negotiations fail, Juventus could be forced to sanction his departure for the best possible price, potentially as early as the January transfer window. While the club would lose a valuable player, such a move could become unavoidable if circumstances dictate. ............ .
