Coronavirus, nella Juve nessun positivo. Riecco Matuidi e Khedira

May 21, 2020

The Juventus squad has been given a clean bill of health as preparations for the return of Serie A continue in Turin.

Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the last Juve players to re-join individual drills, having undergone a period of quarantine following his return from Madeira, where he saw out the last two months of lockdown.

However the Portugal star completed the isolation stint on Monday and the following day reported back to the club, where his colleagues had already resumed duties while respecting social distancing measures. ......

..... The former Milan boss was then asked about the Scudetto race and had some harsh words for Juve.

“Should the season stop permanently, the Scudetto shouldn’t be assigned to anyone.

“In the race between Juve and Lazio, enthusiasm, common sense and perseverance are what will count. .....

“The Bianconeri have a limit, however, which is settling for a history of domestic success, having focused so much on its economic power and ability to dominate the league and contributing less to the growth of our national game.” .....

May 24, 2020

Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora confirms Serie A could resume ‘on June 13 or 20,’ while there is the possibility of showing games free to air on television.

Italy is already well into Phase Two of the coronavirus pandemic response, with deaths and new cases falling daily for several weeks.

The FIGC today handed in the medical protocol for matches, just days after agreeing one on contact training, and a decision will be made on Thursday.

“We are working on two possible dates to begin Serie A games, on June 13 or 20,” Spadafora told Rai TG3. .....

May 28, 2020

It’s now official, the Coppa Italia semi-finals will be played on June 13 and Serie A can resume from the weekend of June 20, confirmed Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora.

“It was a very useful meeting and, as we had said from the start, football was always going to resume when we had the conditions to ensure safety and the CTS gave the all-clear to the protocols,” said Spadafora.

“Italy is getting back on its feet and it is only right that football should do the same. The CTS agreed with the medical protocol, but confirmed the absolute necessity for a quarantine period if a player were to test positive. .....

Jun 7, 2020

Portugal and more specifically Lisbon has been chosen as the venue for the Champions League Final Eight tournament, claims German newspaper Bild.

It had been one of the main candidates for the role, along with Frankfurt, Moscow and Istanbul.

Portugal has been among the European nations least affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so could even allow fans into the stadium by August.

Lisbon was chosen because it has several modern stadiums that are suitable to host a tournament, having staged Euro 2004. ....

Leonardo Bonucci saw ‘the glass half-full’ after Juventus were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Milan, as they reached the Coppa Italia Final on away goals.

The Bianconeri dominated possession even before Ante Rebic’s red card and the missed Cristiano Ronaldo penalty, but only went through on away goals thanks to the 1-1 first leg result.

Sarri: 'Excellent first 30 minutes'

Juve-Milan Coppa Italia, Sarri: "Bene per mezz'ora". Pioli: "Pesa ...

Jun 12, 2020

Maurizio Sarri was ‘surprised and satisfied with the opening 30 minutes’ from Juventus, but they gradually ‘faded away’ in a 0-0 Coppa Italia draw with Milan.

The Bianconeri reached the Coppa Italia Final against Napoli or Inter, to be played in Rome on June 17, thanks to away goals and the 1-1 first leg result, as they were held 0-0 by a Milan side down to 10 men for over an hour.

Cristiano Ronaldo had the chance to score moments earlier, but fired his penalty on to the base of the upright. It was the second spot-kick CR7 had missed in a Juve jersey, after Chievo in January 2019.

“Clearly after three months, getting back to the touchline and seeing the teams out there is a good sensation, even if it’s not the same without the fans,” the coach told Rai Sport.

“I was very surprised and satisfied with our opening 30 minutes, as we moved the ball so quickly and totally dominated the game, even before the red card. ....

Sarri: 'I don't think about Napoli'

Juve, Sarri: “È il momento di tirare fuori tutto quello che abbiamo”

Jun 16, 2020

Maurizio Sarri insists he only focuses on Juventus ahead of the Coppa Italia clash with his former club Napoli: “I’m happy to be in the Final.”

The first trophy will be assigned tomorrow, as Juventus play Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia, and the Old Lady coach doesn’t expect the high intensity of a normal Final.

Sarri watched his former club beat Inter 2-1 on aggregate in the other semi-final but felt the Partenopei sat back and waited to hit the Nerazzurri on the break.

“In regards of the intensity, I don’t think the physical change will change in five days,” he said at a press conference. “We are in a particular moment; the games will be very difficult, the same goes for the mental and tactical aspects.

“It’s all part of the abnormal period. I watched a Napoli who tried to get their opponents high up and just waited. ....

Juventus squad for Coppa Final

Jun 16, 2020

Juventus have named their squad for the Coppa Italia Final against Napoli, including Giorgio Chiellini and Gonzalo Higuain, although they aren’t expected to play.

It kicks off in Rome tomorrow at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) behind closed doors.

If the tie is level after 90 minutes, they will skip extra time and go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Coach Maurizio Sarri named a full squad for the trip to Rome, although this is largely because he wants everyone to be involved in the experience of the Final.

Chiellini, Higuain, Merih Demiral and Aaron Ramsey are still not 100 per cent fit and unlikely to feature. ....

Gattuso: 'Respect Juve, use Napoli strengths'

Sarri-2001-Gattuso-epa_0.jpg

Jun 16, 2020

Gennaro Gattuso wants Napoli to ‘respect Juventus, but play to our strengths’ in the Coppa Italia Final.

It kicks off in Rome tomorrow at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) behind closed doors.

If the result is not decided after 90 minutes, the teams will skip extra time and go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

“There is never a good time to face Juve, as I think it’s part of their DNA and the history of the club to always be ready,” Gattuso told RAI Sport.

“For so many years they’ve had consistency and that great mentality. We must respect them, but also play to our own strengths.”

It’s a curious reunion for Maurizio Sarri, who spent three years at the Stadio San Paolo and came close to winning the Scudetto.

“I like everything about him, I won’t deny that and I think I’ve said it more than once, I copied and pasted his tactics many times over the last few years.

“I watched so much footage of how he organised his defensive line, how he started the trend for more passing in Italian football, I like it all.” ....
