Juventus is preparing to loan out two youngsters in the summer Juventus has some talented youngsters in its squad, but not all of them receive the necessary game time to develop. To provide them with valuable playing experience, the club often sends these players out on loan. Last summer, three of their young talents, Kaio Jorge, Enzo Barrenechea, and Matias Soule, moved to Frosinone to gain more playing time. ............ Juventus is seriously considering now sending Fabio Miretti and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia on loan. Although Miretti remains a favorite of Max Allegri and has been given opportunities to play, Nicolussi Caviglia has struggled after failing to secure a move away from Juventus last summer. If they leave at the start of the next campaign, Juventus expects them to gain valuable experience and perform well before returning to Turin. ............ Is Thiago Motta to Juventus already a done deal? Juventus is interested in making Thiago Motta their next manager as Max Allegri struggles to get the best out of their current players and win trophies. This is Allegri’s third campaign as their manager during his second spell at the club, and he could end it without a trophy. ............ Motta is a frontrunner to become the Bianconeri’s next manager, and the Bologna coach may already be in talks with Juventus. Juventus is waiting until the end of the season to make a decision and has been publicly backing Allegri. However, journalist Carlo Pellegatti has suggested that a move for Motta is currently a done deal. He said: “From what they told me, between ‘Italian-Brazilian and Juve is done, but when I spoke about the Rossoneri hypothesis I wasn’t explicitly told no…” ............ Pavan wants Juventus to try a new attacking lineup against Salernitana Massimo Pavan expects a reaction from Juventus when they face bottom-of-the-table Salernitana this weekend. Juve is eager to seal qualification for the Champions League as soon as possible as they continue to struggle to win games. Salernitana is no match for Juve, even though the Bianconeri are struggling, and it is one of those fixtures that Juve is expected to win by a large margin. ............ But Pavan expects a change in their play and wants to see a front three of Federico Chiesa, Dusan Vlahovic, and Kenan Yildiz in the game. He said: “Against Salernitana, I expect something new, that is to say that Chiesa, Vlahovic and Yildiz play from the start to try to see something new, then it may or may not work, but we have to try since we have to win at any cost”. ............ Juve have to clinch a UCL spot vs. Salernitana ... RIGHT?! The worst team in Serie A is coming to Turin this weekend, with Juventus just one win away from securing their spot in the Champions League for next season Weeks and weeks have gone by with dropped points galore. The second half of the season for Juventus has ended up being quite the disaster for a number of reasons. But the biggest is the simple fact that a campaign that looked like it was going to be smooth sailing back into the Champions League has been anything but that over the last 3 1⁄2 months. With three games to go, Juve still hasn’t secured that Champions League spot. But there could be some good news coming their way this weekend. And that’s simply because of who Juventus are playing this weekend. The only team that has already received their ticket to Serie B for next season rolls into Turin, with Juventus hosting last-place and already relegated Salernitana. With a win over the 20th-place side in Serie A that has a Seahorse in its club crest, Juve will get that incredibly elusive spot in the Champions League for next season. It’s something that should have been done weeks ago, but with just 14 points in their last 14 games, it’s now been delayed and delayed and delayed some more. ............ Journalist says top Italian manager is waiting to coach Juventus Antonio Conte is one of the managers earlier reports suggested Juventus could name as their next head coach. The Bianconeri have been working on a new profile to replace Max Allegri at the end of this season. Several coaches have made their shortlist, with reports suggesting that Thiago Motta is now the leading candidate. ............ Journalist Paolo Paganini insists that the former Juventus manager also wants to return to the club. He said: “Antonio Conte is waiting (and wants) Juventus. In addition to Napoli and Milan, in recent days there has been a new contact with Bayern Munich but the coach would have said no thanks. Thiago Motta remains in pole position for Juventus but his prices are rising di Conte.” ............ AC Milan idol makes a surprise revelation about his Juventus past AC Milan idol Paolo Maldini has revealed that he was a Juventus supporter before joining AC Milan as a youngster. Maldini, a legend of the game, spent his entire career at AC Milan and comes from a family of Milan players, with his son currently on their team. The former defender made almost 1000 career appearances for Milan and recently worked at the club in a non-playing capacity. ............ He said: “As a child, I was a Juventus fan. The first competition I saw on TV was the 1978 World Cup: the national team was Juve plus Antognoni. I was in love with Cabrini and Rossi. How can Juventus secure Champions League qualification following Roma draw Despite settling for a draw against Roma, Juventus are now ever closer to achieving Champions League qualification. The Bianconeri currently sit third in the Serie A standings with 66 points. Last night’s result allowed them to preserve their six-point gap over the Giallorossi who currently lie in 5th place. Bologna reside between the two with 64 points. The status quo was preserved on this front, as the Emilians also settled for a goalless draw against Torino on Friday. But with Serie A earning an extra spot for next season’s Champions League edition, all three clubs are currently sitting in the UCL zone. However, Atalanta are preparing to launch an onslaught and take advantage of the recent results to climb their way up the ranks. ............ The Bianconeri can finish the job with a win over Salernitana next Sunday at the Allianz Stadium. But even if Max Allegri’s men fail to beat the Granata, they can still book their UCL ticket depending on the outcome of the direct clash between Atalanta and Roma which will be played on the same day. If the Orobici were to beat Daniele De Rossi’s side, it would be enough for the Old Lady to qualify regardless of the result against Salernitana, thanks to their superior head-to-head record against Roma. On the other hand, Juventus would need a single point against Salernitana to qualify if Atalanta and Roma end their match in a draw. Stefano Impallomeni tips Juventus star to shine at Euro 2024 Federico Chiesa was Italy’s standout player in Euro 2020, helping his team win the competition in England. The Azzurri star has remained a key player for his country, but between that success and this year, he has struggled with injuries. With Juventus actively working to harness his potential, the attacker is showing promising signs in the ongoing campaign. While he hasn’t scored many goals, Chiesa has clearly improved. ............ He has now been tipped to shine at Euro 2024 by Stefano Impallomeni, who said: “He’s back in a great way, he’s ready for the European Championship. He’s superior to the others, I’m happy to have seen him in these conditions. With someone like that, Italy can aspire to something different. Bremer registers unique stat in Top Five European Leagues Juventus star Gleison Bremer has scored more headers in Europe’s Top Five leagues since the 2019/20 campaign than any other defender. The 26-year-old was once again on target yesterday when he rose above his marker to score the equalizer that earned the Bianconeri an away point against Roma. Giuntoli on Allegri: “We’ll decide at the end of the season, unfair to blame one person” Juventus Football Director Cristiano Giuntoli insists the club will only make a decision on the future of Max Allegri at the end of the campaign. ............ But while Giuntoli is no longer publicly confirming the manager’s stay beyond the season, he’s still lauding his work, refusing to cause a stir in the media. The former Napoli director feels it would be unfair to blame a single person for the team’s mid-season collapse. “Every path must be decided in the end, now we are focused on the objectives”, said the club director ahead of Juve’s clash against Roma. ............ “What a pleasure to remember May 5th,” he said jokingly. “Now we must achieve our objectives, that is reaching the Champions League. We had a great first half of the season, everyone did great things. “But now that the results went south, it’s unfair to point the finger at one person. “We’re very much united with the coach and the technical staff. We will sit down and evaluate the future at the end of the season.” ............ Spoils shared between Juventus and Roma in tense battle at the Olimpico With a Champions League spot at stake, Juve and Roma stood toe to toe but neither could come up with a winner. Sunday’s game between Juventus and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico had plenty of storyline behind it. First and foremost, there was the fact that both teams were desperately trying to secure a place for themselves in next year’s Champions League. There was also the contrast between the two teams in the second half of the season. Roma had cast off an old coach whose tactics were stuck in generations past, and his replacement had changed the team’s tactics and led a flying run of form that had only recently started to end. Juve, on the other hand, had kept a similar coach in place even after an incredible collapse that he seemed completely unable to arrest — one that was still ongoing as of this writing. There was also the side plot of two ex-Juve men in Roma’s starting lineup, looking to get a jab in on their old club. All those stories showed up to a degree, but in the end it was the game itself that ended up being the main talking point in the end. ............ With the end of the season coming closer and closer and Champions League qualification hanging in the balance, the Bianconeri and Giallorossi traded blows like a pair of prize fighters in the middle of the ring. By the middle of the second half they were treating viewers to a thrilling contest that, for the neutral, was quite entertaining, and for the partisan was liable to put you on beta blockers. In the end, thanks to some epic goalkeeping and brilliant goal-line clearances, neither side was able to land the knockout blow that they needed. The 1-1 draw at the final whistle was a better result for Juve than Roma, but still short of what either team wanted to clinch their spot in the top five. ............ The game’s opening salvos came from Juve. Three minutes in Chiesa took a pass from Cambiaso, cut inside, and unleashed a shot for the far post that flew over, but not by that much. Four minutes later Bremer pressed Dybala off the ball deep in the Roma half. The ball was fed into Chiesa, who dribbled into the box and squared it for Vlahovic, who had to backtrack to pick it up but still had good shooting position, but he yanked it just wide. Of course, seeing this early sign of life, Allegri proceeded to do how Allegri do, and Juve began to drop back into their own half. ............ Roma’s long spell of possession led Kristensen to send Baldanzi to the byline. Baldanzi — whose equalizer against Juve while he was still at Empoli was perhaps the trigger for this whole mess — pulled the ball back to Dybala, who laid it back further still to Cristante. The midfielder’s shot actually beat Szczesny, but Gatti was right there to touch it away from the line. While this technically counted as a goal line clearance for some stat sites, his touch redirected the ball straight to Lukaku, who made no mistake burying the rebound. ............ But Juve had some fight in them, and they had a Federico Chiesa who, as it would turn out, was absolutely on fire. Chiesa lit the fuse when Juve recycled a corner kick back to him. He put Pellegrini on his backside with a quick cut and sent in a gorgeous cross, putting it on a dime for Bremer, who outjumped two defenders and hit a powerful header that went past Svilar almost before he could react to tie the score. ............ Juve had the better of things through the opening phases of the first half. Things changed right around the hour mark, when Weah took out Paredes while trying to get a pass off after a heavy touch. Practically every Roma player surrounded referee Andrea Colombo begging him to show Weah, who had been booked in the game’s first 10 minutes, a second yellow card. Colombo, who overall had a wretched night, made the right call in this instance and refused to go to his pocket, and Allegri immediately put Filip Kostic onto the field to keep Weah from actually getting that second yellow. ............ The game’s final phases brought the goalkeepers to the fore. In the 79th minute, Locatelli ran on to a loose defensive header and bounced it towards the goal. It was headed just under the crossbar before Svilar adjusted and tipped it over the bar. At the very end of normal time the Belgian did it again, somehow getting a hand up after Moise Kean put a perfect header on a Kostic corner kick. Roma, who lead the league in goals after the 75-minute mark, nearly added to that total deep into stoppage time, when a bad giveaway by Gatti was moved downfield and put into the channel perfectly for Tammy Abraham, who had a clear shooting lane but couldn’t get the ball past an onrushing Szczesny, who made himself big and blocked the ball with his legs. LE PAGELLE WOJCIECH SZCZESNY - 6.5. A couple of his punches could’ve been better, and he was beaten a couple times only to be bailed out by blocks, but his huge stoppage time save kept the game level and at least got Juve one point. FEDERICO GATTI - 5. His weak clearance gifted Lukaku Roma’s goal, and he made a complete brain fart at the end that could’ve given a second gift of a winner. He needs to eliminate the mental errors like that. BREMER - 7. That towering header was exceptional, the perfect shot that gave the keeper zero shot to react. Kept Lukaku relatively quiet, and was again a force at the back, reading the game well and clearing the ball six times, as well as getting in that crucial block on Pellegrini’s shot. DANILO - 7. His header off the line may have saved the game for Juve, and he was a constant pressence in defense all night long. He finished the day with three tackles and eight clearances and also contributed a pair of key passes at the other end. TIMOTHY WEAH - 5. ............ WESTON McKENNIE - 6. ............ MANUEL LOCATELLI - 5. Only completed 82.1 percent of his passes, which wasn’t good enough for how the game began to develop. He did almost give Juve the win when he was denied by Svilar. I’ve seen people say he should’ve caught the ball more cleanly on that shot, but I wonder if he hadn’t hit it into the ground if it would have hit the target at all. ADRIEN RABIOT - 5.5. ............ ANDREA CAMBIASO - 6. ............ FEDERICO CHIESA - 7.5. The best player on the pitch by a good margin. He was dangerous whenever he had the ball, and no one in Roma’s defense could do anything about it. The cross he put in for Bremer’s goal looked as though he’d picked out an individual pore on his head, and the shot that hit the post would have been one of the goals of the season in the entire league had it gone in. It begs the question: why was he removed from the game? DUSAN VLAHOVIC - 5. Missed his best chance early and didn’t get a whole ton of service the rest of the night. He only touched the ball 15 times in the first half, and 23 times on the whole in 75 minutes. That’s not enough service to your top striker. SUBS FILIP KOSTIC - 5.5. ............ ARKADIUSZ MILIK - 5. ............ MOISE KEAN - 5.5. Only seven touches, but completing a third of your passes ain’t a great look. What was a good look was that last-minute header, which would’ve been a goal had Svilar pulled out a save that was not normal. CARLOS ALCARAZ - NR. ............ MANAGER ANALYSIS Why was Federico Chiesa taken out of the game? Up until that point, there had been little to complain about Allegri’s night. He had gotten the team a little too deep in the lead-up to Lukaku’s goal, but other than that it was a pretty good match. Having Cambiaso on the left helped unlock Chiesa, who combines with him far better than Filip Kostic, who generally takes up the same spaces that Chiesa wants to launch his attacks from. Cambiaso will overlap and underlap with Chiesa and move the defense around, giving him more room to operate. And operate Chiesa did. He was on fire, and Roma simply didn’t have a counter for him. He’d humiliated Kristensen a couple of times, and guys like Llorente didn’t fare much better. And then he was pulled. The way the game was playing out, the only valid justification for that decision is if Chiesa was either hurting or gassed and asked to come out. There was no apparent sign that that was the case. Maybe — maybe — you could make the case that Allegri was trying to adjust to the fact Kostic was in the game and that he and Chiesa don’t work well together. But even then, you’re removing your only true creative player and a guy that — I cannot stress this enough — was absolutely on fire to put a pair of prima punti onto the field, and Kostic did not put nearly enough crosses into the box to justify that move in any case. I have a feeling that had Chiesa stayed on the field, Juventus would have taken the lead at some point. As it was, it took two extraordinary saves from Svilar to keep Juve out and the game level. In the state of grace Chiesa was in tonight, I don’t think Svilar would’ve been able to make enough saves to do that. In taking him off, Allegri may have managed himself out of three points on the night. LOOKING AHEAD Juve will play Salernitana next weekend at a time still to be determined. After that, they head back to Rome to face Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final, then end the season with an away date against Bologna and a home finale against Monza. Juventus Player Ratings vs Roma: Explosive Chiesa Shines Entertaining Draw Juventus (3-5-2) Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5 The Juventus defenders were all over the place at times, which didn’t help the Pole’s cause. But still made some vital stops, including an injury-time save on Tammy Abraham. Found mild success on his attacking forays, but was dispossessed late in the match which almost gifted Abraham the winner. Juventus 1 - Roma 1: Initial reaction and random observations Things somewhat surprisingly end with just two goals, with both goalkeepers making some highlight-reel kind of saves. Under normal circumstances, Juventus recording a 1-1 draw against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico wouldn’t be the worst result in the world. It was a matchup that certainly had a little bit of everything, and the one that left plenty of people saying “if you were a neutral, then you would have really enjoyed this one!” or something along those lines. ............ An absolutely brutal start to Sunday’s trip to the Italian capital was salvaged by Bremer’s latest thunderous header to even the score before halftime. Somehow, even is how it stayed, with both teams having more than just a couple of chances to pull back in front. But thanks to the efforts of Wojciech Szczesny and Mile Svilar in each team’s goal, the two goalkeepers didn’t let the plethora of chances hit the back of the net, as the latest night where Juventus didn’t have the best of luck in front of goal came to the fore once again. ............ Ultimately, it means that Juventus have to wait yet another week to officially secure their place in next season’s Champions League. The thing is, with all of the dropped points over the last 14 Serie A fixtures, Juve trying to do it against an already-relegated Salernitana — and trying to do so at the Allianz Stadium, no less! — doesn’t seem as routine as you may think it is. It’s just been that kind of second half of the season. It’s just been a three months in which Juventus not winning has been the constant theme that has absolutely sucked all of the good vibes from the season. And much in the same fashion as we saw last weekend against Milan, this was certainly a winnable game for Juventus — especially in the second half — but they just couldn’t get over that final hump to break the deadlock. Some of that had to do with Svilar doing pretty impressive things in goal. Part of it was Federico Chiesa’s brilliant solo effort needing just a little more bend on it so it goes into the side netting and not smashing off the far post. Part of it was simply not taking advantage of the chances that they did have, Svilar or no Svilar. It all just ended up being the same kind of deal that we saw last weekend. Juventus could have won. Maybe they should have won with how they played in the second half. It was certainly there for the taking after a first half in which they were definitely not playing as well as Roma were. But that all-elusive second goal never arrived — and because of it this three-month stretch of barely winning anything no matter if it’s Serie A or Coppa Italia. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Hey, guess what? Juventus are one step closer to securing that Champions League spot. If you didn’t know, Max is here to tell you about it once again. You know, the same thing you’ve been hearing all season. At this point, I was hoping it would be a thing of the past. But with three games remaining, we’re left to hear the same kind of quote about the same topic for at least another week. It’s exhausting. There was a moment after the final whistle where Szczesny and Daniele De Rossi — who, remember, were teammates during Tek’s two-year spell in Rome — had what looked to be a brief conversation and then a laugh. Guessing DDR had a thing or two to say about the couple of big saves Szczesny made late in the game to keep things even. Oh to be a little gremlin sitting on Tek’s shoulder for that exchange. ............ Juventus attempted 161 passes in the first half. Juventus completed 136 passes in the first half. I don’t know about you guys, but it’s pretty hard to score goals when you barely have the ball! Dusan Vlahovic touched the ball 15 times in the first half, And even with absolute scraps coming his way, he still had one of the best scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes. Could we be seeing the reemergence of Federico Chiesa in the pre-injury kind of form? He was great off the bench against Milan, and he followed that up with the kind of man of the match performance against Roma that leaves you wondering about where he’s heading form-wise with the Euros approaching. Some of the runs he made — and especially on the one that saw him nearly score — were those classic kind of Chiesa runs. That’s what gives you hope. On the not-so-good scale: Juventus’ defending on Roma’s goal ... YEAH, NOT GOOD. Like, seriously, think about what happened: Paulo Dybala spun Bremer around multiple times, Federico Gatti basically saw his “clearance” attempt go right to Romelu Lukaku and it’s not like the rest of the midfielders/defenders were all that great either. It was just bad all the way around. A better moment from Bremer: his goal where he just hung in the air and got that much pace on the ball. It came off a brilliant assist from Chiesa, too — another one of those moments where he put Lorenzo Pellegrini on skates and put in a great cross with his weaker foot that Bremer thundered home. Good stuff, man. Can you imagine what Moise Kean scoring his first goal of the season just before stoppage time would have been like? And a goal that clinched Juventus’ Champions League spot too? Oh man, the internet might have exploded. ............ Juventus draw against Roma and wait for Champions League goes on Juventus played to a 1-1 draw against AS Roma this evening, keeping their hopes alive for qualification to next season’s Champions League. Federico Chiesa signalled early on that it would be a challenging day for AS Roma with a long-range shot after just three minutes, although it flew wide. ............ Juve failed to heed those warnings, and Lukaku scored the opener after 15 minutes. Lukaku again missed another chance, and it was all Roma in the opening 20 minutes. ............ But on the 30th-minute mark, Chiesa had his shot blocked, and Gleison Bremer equalised for Juve from the ensuing corner a minute later. Ten minutes later, Manuel Locatelli failed to bury his header, becoming the latest player to miss a good chance. Immediately after the break, Chiesa had the chance to put Juve ahead, but he missed from a great position. ............ In the 62nd minute, Chiesa should have done better as he bent a shot, but it wasn’t difficult for Mile Svilar to save. Svilar saved again from Danilo, who brilliantly got away from his marker to attack a corner. ............ Kristensen could have scored the next goal after 69 minutes, but Wojciech Szczesny denied him with a stunning save. After 76 minutes, Max Allegri decided to bring on Arkadiusz Milik and Moise Kean as he searched for the winning goal. Four minutes later, Svilar pulled off another stunning save from Locatelli to keep the game level. Carlos Alcaraz was the next Juventus player to join the match moments before Svilar brilliantly denied Kean. ............ Both teams tried to find the winner, but it never came as Juve dropped more points in the race for a Champions League place. Official Juventus team to face Roma – Vlahovic and Chiesa start Juventus travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma and this is the team that Max Allegri has selected for the game. ............ Juventus must secure points today to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League. While it’s highly likely that Juventus have already accumulated enough points to qualify for next season’s elite European competition, there is still a mathematical possibility that they could finish outside the top five. Roma is also in the battle for a top-five spot, with Atalanta closely trailing them for that fifth position. A loss today for Roma could have a disastrous impact on their Champions League ambitions. ............ Roma vs. Juventus match preview Over the next two weeks, Juventus will make two very important trips to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The first of those trips, could go a long way in finally wrapping up a Champions League spot, while the other will be Juve’s one and final chance to win some silverware before the 2023-24 season comes to an end and a summer of expected change arrives. That second trip to Rome — and the trophy that potentially comes with it — is very much on the horizon. But that first jaunt back over to the Italian capital is very much right in front of Max Allegri’s squad. They will actually face a Rome-based club this time around, as Juve open up the final four fixtures of the 2023-24 season against a very different kind of Roma squad than the one they saw a few days after Christmas. Four months ago, not only did Juventus’ form look a whole lot different then it does now, but the meeting between Allegri and Jose Mourinho pitted two of the most risk-averse managers in Serie A. But now, with Mourinho gone after he was sacked just a couple of weeks after the 1-0 loss in Turin, former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi has rolled in and brought a new kind of energy that has seen the Giallorossi go from outside of a European spot to now sitting in Serie A’s fifth and final Champions League spot. ............ Both Juventus and Roma are coming off disappointing results the last time out. Albeit, they came on very different kinds of stages considering where both teams are these days. Juventus dropped points for an astonishing 11th time in their last 13 league fixtures last weekend against a shorthanded AC Milan side that featured a second-string defense. A Champions League place is something that should have been secured weeks ago, but because of this form over the last three months, they’ve left it to the last four games of the season. And with who Juve have to face over these final four games, it’s far from a certainty that they will wrap it all up this weekend and have the chance to focus on the Coppa Italia final when they face an already relegated Salernitana next weekend. The hope, of course, is that Juve can take care of what they need to and get their Champions League spot secured come Sunday night. The reality is that Juve are playing so poorly over these last three months — and it’s not like things are getting much better — that expecting them to beat good times is stretching it. ............ How different have things been? Let’s take a look! Since Juventus’ draw with Empoli on Jan. 27 kicked off this tailspin, this is how it’s gone: Juventus: 13 games played, 13 points earned Roma: 13 games played, 27 points earned One team has seen their run over these last three months save their season (even though Sunday’s game is very much a must-win when it comes to the Champions League). The other team has seen such a bright season go to absolute hell within the span of a couple of months, with just about everything feeling grateful for all those points from the first half of the 2023-24 campaign. I don’t want to think what it would be like these final four games if Juventus hadn’t won as many games as they did up until the final weekend of January. Neither do you. So let’s just hope that Juve can get this Champions League spot wrapped up and be done with it all. TEAM NEWS It’s not exactly been the best birthday weekend for Kenan Yildiz, who turned 19 years old Friday. The young Turk will miss the trip to Rome after coming down with gastroenteritis, according to Allegri. Yildiz had hoped to recover in time, but could only train away from the group on his birthday and then didn’t train at all on Saturday, Allegri said. Alex Sandro is the other injured player who will be forced to watch the Juve-Roma matchup back in Turin. Sandro, on the cusp of breaking Pavel Nedved’s record for most appearances by a foreign player at Juventus, suffered a muscle injury in training earlier this week. The two suspended midfielders, Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba, are still suspended. However, Fagioli is now a little more than two weeks away from seeing his suspension come to an end on May 20. That would make him eligible to play in Juventus’ season finale against Monza. ............ JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH Things haven’t exactly been all that great for Weston McKennie lately. ............ Since he recorded back-to-back games with two assists in early March, McKennie has recorded just one more assist — in Juve’s win over Lazio in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal — and just hasn’t had the same kind of effectiveness that he’s had for the majority of his starts this season. The easy reason to think things have happened in this way is because the dude is tired — which is very much valid at this point of the season. McKennie has played the second-most amount of minutes of any Juventus outfield player and the third most of anybody in bianconero if you throw Wojciech Szczesny into the mix. ............ But Juve need McKennie to be more like the player who was such a pleasant surprise to close this season. Especially when you’re going up a team like Roma who are going to play with an aggressive midfield that aren’t afraid to go right at you. It’s a big test for Juve, but also a big one for McKennie as his team is on the doorstep of Champions League qualification. MATCH INFO When: Sunday, May 5, 2024. Where: Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy. The Nerazzurri only needed a victory over Lazio to end their Serie A drought, but Ronaldo and company succumbed to a shocking 2-4 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico, despite taking the lead twice. Simultaneously, the Bianconeri secured a win over Udinese thanks to two early goals from Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet. ............
