Tudor earns Thiago Motta comparisons after Juventus - Milan 0-0 draw Juventus now have the same number of points (12) after six matches of the 2025-26 season as they did after the same number of games under Thiago Motta last term, and current head coach Igor Tudor is now beginning to repeat an unfortunate trend that also troubled his predecessor. ............ Sunday’s result means that Juventus now have three wins and three draws after six matches of the Serie A season, the same set of results as they achieved after six Serie A matches under Thiago Motta last term. ............ Juventus managed to go 21 matches unbeaten at the start of the 2024-25 season under Thiago Motta, but the former head coach often came under criticism given that 13 of those matches ended in draws. A year down the line, and Juventus have now drawn five matches in a row across Serie A and the Champions League, matching the longest streak of consecutive draws under Thiago Motta last season. . “You lose your identity” – Del Piero thinks Tudor is mismanaging Juventus attack Following Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Milan, Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero tells Igor Tudor to avoid his hectic rotation between the strikers at his disposal. ............ Jonathan David has been initially identified as the team’s designated new bomber following his free transfer from Lille, while Loic Openda arrived on deadline day to offer the manager more options in the attacking third. Moreover, Dusan Vlahovic was happy to reject all offers to stay in Turin for his final contractual year. Unfortunately for Juventus, the healthy depth in attack hasn’t yielded a positive return in terms of goal-scoring. David only netted on his debut against Parma, while Openda has yet to open his account for the club. For his part, Vlahovic bagged four goals, but never scored as a starter. ............ “Who is best suited to play in attack at Juventus? There isn’t a suitable player right now,” noted Del Piero following the club’s goalless draw against Milan. “Juve have strength in other areas, but certainly not up front. Those who have started have almost always performed poorly. Vlahovic has only done well as a substitute. “It’s complicated, the blanket is short. If you rotate a lot, you keep everyone on edge and give everyone confidence. But on the other hand, you lose your identity. “The team recognises itself in a starting XI, which isn’t there right now, especially up front. Elsewhere, in defence and midfield, for example, the ideas are clear. Up front, Tudor still doesn’t have clear ideas.” ............ “Where can Juve improve? If they can play at a very high intensity, they’re much more vertical. Because they have players like Yildiz and Conceicao, who can cause havoc when given space. “Juve are struggling in attack. The only one who tries to lift the pace is Locatelli, so the attackers get very few chances to score. If you receive the ball with eight or nine players up front, it’s difficult to do anything.” . Capello criticises both sides after ‘boring’ Juventus 0-0 Milan draw Fabio Capello did not enjoy the performance he saw from either side during the 0-0 draw between his former sides Juventus and Milan in Serie A on Sunday evening, describing the first half as ‘boring’, and criticising both sides for lacking courage. ............ Juventus, who have now drawn five matches in succession across all competitions, were booed off the pitch, while Milan have been criticised for missing their chance to stay at the top of the table heading into the October international break. ............ “Juve-Milan was not a great show,” Capello said. “A very boring first half, the two teams didn’t have the courage to take any risks. We saw a little bit more in the second half. From two teams like that, we were expecting more of a spectacle. They were all rightly booed at the end.” ............ “I didn’t understand the decision to replace Conceicao,” Capello said. . How Tudor changed Juventus system after taking off Yildiz against Milan Juventus had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home against Milan in Serie A on Sunday evening, in a game that saw head coach Igor Tudor shuffle his tactical approach with 20 minutes to go following the withdrawal of Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao. ............ There were boos at full-time at the Allianz Stadium, but Tudor insists that he didn’t hear the noise from the crowd. Several Juventus players have come under criticism for their performances in the 0-0 draw against Milan, particularly centre-forward Jonathan David, who is without a goal for Juventus since August. David was part of a triple substitution after 70 minutes on Tuesday, which also say the fatigued Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao come off. ............ They were replaced by Dusan Vlahovic, Lois Openda and Khpehren Thuram as Tudor switched from his regular 3-4-2-1 to a more ‘traditional’ 3-5-2, with two out and out centre-forwards and a three-man central midfield. ............ Vlahovic and Openda played together as strike partners, but were unable to find the magic moment against Milan. . Read more -> https://football-italia.net/how-tudor-changed-juventus-system-vs-milan/

Refereeing expert questions Milan’s penalty against Juventus: “No legs contact” Former Serie A referee Luca Marelli raises doubt over the penalty kick that was awarded to Milan against Juventus on Sunday. ............ Although the contest ended goalless, Milan had several chances to break the deadlock, no more so than the spot-kick that Marco Guida awarded them in the second half. It all stemmed from a clever long ball from Luka Modric, who picked up Santi Gimenez’s run to the box. While the ball was sailing in his direction, the Mexican striker was involved in a tussle inside the box with Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly, before going to the ground. The referee immediately pointed towards the spot, and the VAR was happy with the decision, choosing not to intervene. ............ Nevertheless, many Juventus supporters were still livid with the decision, considering it a harsh call, since Kelly didn’t commit a clear violation. ............ For his part, Marelli resonates with the black-and-white fanbase, noting that the English defender didn’t clip Gimenez. “There was contact, but I’m having a hard time understanding if there was a violation,” said the reputable former referee during his post-match appearance. “Guida assessed it while being in an excellent position. Kelly’s arms may have been involved, but there was no contact between the legs. “Dismissal? It can’t constitute a red card because Gimenez didn’t have possession.” This isn’t the first time this season that questionable decisions have gone against Juventus. Igor Tudor was left fuming following two grave errors committed against his team in the 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona. . “You will never be a foe” – Allegri given hero’s welcome by Juventus fans Max Allegri received a warm reception from the adoring Bianconeri crowd ahead of the big Serie A clash between Juventus and Milan. Unfortunately for the fans in attendance at the Allianz Stadium and viewers watching at home, the encounter didn’t live up to the expectations, ending in a goalless draw. ............ The Juventus fans jeered while the stadium announcer was listing Milan’s starting lineup, as per custom. However, the mood drastically changed when Allegri’s name was announced, drawing applause from the black-and-white army. The ultras in the Curva Sud then held a banner that read: “We are always proud of you, thank you for everything, Max Allegri.” ............ Moreover, these ultras groups had already posted a statement on social media, expressing their gratitude towards the 58-year-old: “You will never be an opponent. A great coach. Because you may not have entertained us, but you brought so much joy to us, mister. Welcome home.” Allegri also shared a few hugs and laughs with some of his former players before the match, including Kenan Yildiz. ............ After the contest, the Livorno native admitted that his return to the stadium was a rather emotional affair. “It was emotional. I saw so many people who supported me during my eight years at Juventus, people with whom we celebrated and even cried, because there were some difficult moments,” said Allegri in his post-match interview. “I thank them and the fans, who welcomed me so warmly. Now I’m at Milan, we took home a point, but we could have done better: when you have to ‘bite’ the opponent.” . Tudor ‘didn’t hear’ stadium jeers, defends struggling Juventus star & names Scudetto favourites Juventus manager Igor Tudor made some interesting comments following his team’s goalless draw against Milan, especially when asked about the full-time whistles. ............ While the Bianconeri were the slightly better team in the first half, Max Allegri’s men were more dangerous after the break. They came close to breaking the deadlock, but Christian Pulisic sent his penalty kick high and wide, while Rafael Leao spurned two easy chances following his introduction. ............ “After we switched to a 3-5-2, they stopped creating chances,” said Tudor while speaking to the press after the match. “It was a difficult match, it’s a shame because we tried to win. The draw is fair.” “The changes? It was a choice we had to make. We had planned to take off Conceicao at that moment, due to his physical condition. David and Yildiz were tired. “To send the message that we wanted to win, we put two forwards, and three in the middle to contain well in that area of the pitch.” ............ “Pressure is part of this club. I liked David’s display, but I didn’t like that he couldn’t score. He’s a goalscorer, but even if he didn’t score, he did well. “You make decisions, you watch, you observe, and off you go.” When the referee blew the final whistle, the Juventus fans in the stands responded with jeers, voicing their irritation with the team’s performance. And yet, Tudor claimed he didn’t hear them, but is rather satisfied with the team’s status. “Jeers? I didn’t hear them, I immediately headed down the tunnel.” “I’m satisfied. This is a positive, united dressing room, with a mentality of working hard and always doing better. We’ve made very few mistakes in games; I’ve played about twenty since I’ve been here. None of them were easy, but we’ve made very few mistakes. ............ “Nobody likes Juve drawing or not winning. I have an eye and a conscience when the team does what it should and when it doesn’t.” Finally, the Croatian identified Inter as the best-equipped team to clinch the Scudetto title. “I don’t think this is the right time to pass judgment on Juventus (as a Scudetto contender). Inter are above the rest. This is how I see it, and then we’ll see what the future holds. . Read more -> https://www.juvefc.com/tudor-juventus-jeers-struggling-david/

Juventus 0 - AC Milan 0: Initial reaction and random observations Following Sunday’s scoreless draw with Max Allegri and AC Milan, these two things are true about Juventus … Juve have not lost a game during the six-game stretch of fixtures between the September international break and the October international break. Juve have not won a game in over three weeks since the wild comeback against Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia that started the post-international break slate of fixtures. This is where things stand after when happened in Allegri’s first game back at the Allianz Stadium following his departure from the club he coached to five Serie A titles and a couple of Champions League final appearances. The state of the current squad doesn’t exactly feel all that much better than when Allegri left — and that was proof once again on Sunday as Juve struggled with more inconsistencies up front in the final third as well as errors that nearly cost them dearly and could have seen them suffer their first defeat of the 2025-26 season. Plus, it always helps when your opponent misses a penalty like Christian Pulisic did in the 53rd minute to keep the game scoreless and give Juventus a chance to actually get the win over the subsequent 30-plus minutes. ............ Whether it was that big Jonathan David stumble in the first half that saw one of Juve’s few chances up to that point go for naught or Mike Maignan’s big close-range save on Federico Gatti, it’s not like Igor Tudor’s side was putting a ton of pressure on the Milan defense. Just on the face of it, is a draw against an in-form Milan side like they are right now a necessarily bad thing? No, despite Juve’s recent success in this matchup between the two historic rivals. But when you pile on draw after draw after draw after draw and now a fifth straight draw, it becomes a little worrisome to say the least. ............ On this night, a predictably cagey matchup proved to be exactly that. Both teams struggled for a large swaths of the game to get attacking momentum going, with Juve really only having to sustain a big Milan push coming both before and after the PK miss by Pulisic. Other than that, it’s not like either goalkeeper was very busy, although both Maignan and Michele Di Gregorio had to make a few big saves apiece. Ultimately, this night will be remembered more for what either team was unable to do in the final third more than anything else. ............ There’s a lot for Tudor to think about during these next two weeks of the international break — especially since the later part of October isn’t going to get any easier domestically and in Europe. No matter what, though, this will be a 90 or so minutes in which we can all probably say we will want to forget about as soon as possible during the international break. At least that’s how I feel all about that. RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Don’t look now, but with Sunday night’s result Juventus officially have as many draws in Serie A as they do wins this season. ............ But hey, at least Juve got a clean sheet, right? That’s the first one of those since the final day of August. That’s nearly six weeks! That’s a long time. David will get a lot of stick for that first-half miss he had — and rightfully so. That doesn’t mean it was an easy thing he had to do, essentially having to try and get around the ball by moving his body backwards and it clearly was his downfall from there as he somehow got airborne. Not saying I forgive him for it, just trying to figure out just how the hell it actually happened. ............ Daniele Rugani was thrust into the starting lineup — his first start for Juve in a year and a half! — and pretty much did exactly what he needed to do. That’s the Rugani I know and appreciate even if he’s never lived up to the hype from a decade or so ago. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to see Bremer in there against Como two weeks from now. I want him to be healthy, happy and playing well because this team needs that desperately. It wasn’t a surprise that Allegri got a warm reception before kickoff, but it’s still very nice to see. You know who didn’t? Adrien Rabiot, who got a good amount of whistles form the curva after his first shot attempt of the night went flying well over the Juve goal. One of these guys is not like the other. Kenan Yildiz with his second relatively quiet game of the week. He attempted just one shot, which was blocked, and was subbed off in the 69th minute. (Nice?) Tudor himself said afterward that Yildiz was looking tired. The kid is tired! He’s played a ton of minutes already this season after a 2024-25 season in which he also played a ton of minutes as a teenager. Just because he’s 20 doesn’t mean he’s invisible to fatigue — and it’s showing. ............ David, who also part of that three-man swap, touched the ball a total of 16 times. What I’m trying to say here is that Juve’s two main strikers barely saw any of the ball against Milan. To his credit, though, even though Vlahovic didn’t see much of the ball at all after coming on he did try and will his teammates to push forward more and try and get something going. It didn’t work, but he tried. I’m still not convinced in regard to Pierre Kalulu being Juve’s main wingback on the right. ............ Di Gregorio didn’t look completely convincing in goal against Milan, but he made that big save on Rafa Leao late in the game so I guess I am able to forgive him a little bit. Just in case you were wondering, the Leao shot from midfield that put a bit of a scare into Di Gregorio had an xG of 0.01. Sounds about right. ............ There was a point in this game where Luka Modric was marking Yildiz a couple of times and that means you had a 20-year-old trying to get past a 40-year-old and it was the latter who shut things down to force a corner. ............ After the last few weeks, I feel like a two-week break from watching Juventus will probably do a lot of us a good amount of good mental health. ............ Juventus 0-0 Milan – Kalulu: ‘We’re Not Happy With The Point’ in 0-0 draw Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu expressed disappointment after the Bianconeri’s 0-0 draw with Milan, describing the result as “a point we’re obliged to take” after another cagey contest. ............ Speaking in the post-match press conference, Kalulu said his side wanted more from the evening: “It was a complicated game against a very strong team in form. Both sides had chances to score. We’re not satisfied with the draw, but we have to take it and focus on the next match.” ............ The Frenchman was once again deployed in a more advanced role and looked good on the right flank. ............ “Everyone has their preferences, but in that position, I can maybe score more goals. My goal is to be as complete as possible – maybe in a month or two, you’ll prefer seeing me higher up the pitch.” ............ Asked about the team’s ambitions, Kalulu was clear: “Our goal is always to stay at the top. That never changes.” ............ . Juventus 0-0 Milan – Tudor defends substituting Yildiz & Conceicao in stalemate Juventus were held to a goalless draw by Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening, with Igor Tudor’s side once again left frustrated in front of goal. The Bianconeri battled hard in a cagey contest but failed to find a breakthrough, extending their streak of low-scoring outings under the Croatian coach. ............ “It was the kind of match we expected – difficult, against a strong team,” Tudor said. “We wanted to win, both sides created chances, and in the end, a draw is fair.” ............ “Yildiz, Conceição and David were tired – they’ve played so much. We tried to finish with more cover and energy.” ............ “Bremer felt some discomfort and we didn’t want to risk him. After the break, he’ll be fine.” ............ “With two more goals, we’d have two more wins. That’s football. We have to keep working – we’ll always be on track.” . Juventus Player Ratings vs Milan: Uneventful Bianconeri Held Again Juventus and Milan shared the spoils in a dramatic 0-0 draw in Sunday’s Serie A classic at the Allianz Stadium. Despite a scoreless outcome, the match was far from dull as both teams had their chances to take all three points. ............ However, it was a forgettable first half in Turin as neither team could impose itself. Chances were few and far between, with both defenses standing firm and midfield battles dominating the opening 45 minutes. Juventus came agonizingly close to drawing first blood at the start of the second half. Yet, Mike Maignan pulled off an astonishing save to deny Federico Gatti’s close-range volley. The Bianconeri nearly got punished for Gatti’s miss as Lloyd Kelly tackled Santiago Gimenez to the ground inside the box. Christian Pulisic took the spot-kick dreadfully, blazing his shot well over the crossbar. Still, Milan could’ve snapped up a late win, only for Rafael Leao to miskick the ball in a one-on-one situation against Michele Di Gregorio. In the end, Juventus preserved their undefeated record in the 2025/26 Serie A season but lost further ground on pacesetters Napoli. ............ Juventus (3-4-2-1) Michele Di Gregorio – 8/10 The highly-rated goalkeeper saved his team tonight, making several important stops to thwart Gimenez, Pulisic, and Leao. Lloyd Kelly – 4/10 Erratic and clumsy, the Englishman gave away a chip penalty and was lucky to get away without a booking after making a silly foul on Youssouf Fofana. Daniele Rugani – 7/10 Unlike his defensive colleague, the Italian ace did well for most of the game, though Gimenez caught him off guard once, which nearly led to Milan’s goal. Federico Gatti – 7/10 Though he was Juventus’ best-performing center-back tonight, the former Frosinone star will not forget that 48th minute anytime soon. He did everything right, only for Maignan’s brilliance to deny him celebrations. Andrea Cambiaso – 5/10 ............ Weston McKennie – 6/10 ............ Manuel Locatelli – 7/10 Apart from a reckless yellow card at the start of the second half, the Juventus captain had a near-spotless game, dictating the pace with composure and precision. Pierre Kalulu – 6/10 ............ Kenan Yildiz – 4/10 In such a cagey affair, where Juventus needed a moment of brilliance to unlock Milan’s defensive block, their No.10 failed to rise to the occasion and looked largely ineffective before being subbed off. Francisco Conceciao – 5/10 Despite showing plenty of ambition, the diminutive winger couldn’t make an impact, often struggling to outpace Davide Bartesaghi. Jonathan David – 2/10 A night to forget for the struggling Canadian striker saw him fluff his lines, the only time he had a chance to put Maignan to the test. His dreadful start in Turin continues. Substitutions Lois Openda – 5/10 Dusan Vlahovic – 4/10 Khephren Thuram – 6/10 Filip Kostic – N/A . Juventus Player Ratings vs Milan: Di Gregorio salvages a point in dull affair Juventus registered their fifth draw in as many matches across all competitions, after firing blanks against Milan. Much was expected from the Allianz Stadium clash between the two old Serie A rivals, but the action fell off the mark. The Bianconeri had very few chances to score, with the most memorable being Federico Gatti’s close-range attempt that was miraculously denied by Mike Maignan. ............ Juventus (4-2-3-1) Michele Di Gregorio – 8 A superb showing from the Italian goalkeeper who pulled off a string of saves, including a late one on Leao. Federico Gatti – 6 The former Frosinone man should have done better in front goal, but was somehow denied by Maignan. But did well at the back. Daniele Rugani – 6.5 A confident display from the experienced defender, although Santi Gimenez gave him a few scares. Lloyd Kelly – 6 The Englishman was solid in defence, but gave away a spot kick. While it was a harsh decision, he should have avoided the situation by beating Gimenez to the ball. Pierre Kalulu – 6 ............ Manuel Locatelli – 6 ............ Weston McKennie – 5.5 ............ Andrea Cambiaso – 5.5 ............ Francisco Conceicao – 6.5 The Portuguese was an absolute livewire down the right flank. He was easily Juve’s main source of danger, but his impact dwindled as the match progressed. Kenan Yildiz – 5.5 The Turk began his evening with some flashes of brilliance, but the tide gradually turned in Youssouf Fofana’s favour, with the Frenchman getting the better of him. Jonathan David – 5.5 The energetic Canadian pressed high and connected with his teammates. However, Juventus need goals from their main striker, whereas the 25-year-old slipped when he had the opportunity to threaten his former Lille teammate, Maignan. Substitutes Khephren Thuram – 6 ............ Dusan Vlahovic – 5 ............ Loic Openda – 5.5 The Belgian wasted a promising chance with a wayward shot. Filip Kostic – N/A . Player Ratings: Juventus 0-0 Milan – Flat attacks as Pulisic misses big chance Juventus vs. Milan – player ratings Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio 6; Gatti 6, Rugani 6 (86′ Kostic), Kelly 5; Kalulu 6, Locatelli 6, McKennie 6, Cambiaso 5.5; Conceicao 5.5 (69′ Vlahovic 5.5), Yildiz 5.5 (69′ Openda 5.5); David 5 (69′ Thuram 6). Coach: Tudor 6. Best Juventus player: Locatelli 6 – There wasn’t really a standout performer among the Bianconeri. Daniele Rugani started the first game this season and looked quite in control at the back. Gatti had the best chance in the game for Juve, but was denied by a fantastic Mike Maignan save in the second half. Manuel Locatelli was composed on the ball and helped defensively, but nobody gave that decisive spark to win the game. Lowest Juventus rating: Kelly 5 – The Englishman caused a penalty kick for a foul on Santiago Gimenez, and it could have been a costly mistake. Luckily for the Bianconeri and Kelly, Christian Pulisic skyrocketed the attempt from the spot. Juventus coach: Tudor 6 – The priority was not to lose the game, and the performance was quite flat in the end. Credit to Milan defenders as well, as they conceded very little to the Old Lady. The question is whether Juventus have enough quality to offer more than this. Surely the boos from the Allianz Stadium at full-time were not encouraging. Milan (3-5-2): Maignan 7; Tomori 6.5, Gabbia 6.5, Pavlovic 6.5; Saelemaekers 6, Fofana 6 (63′ Loftus-Cheek), Modric 6.5, Rabiot 5.5, Bartesaghi 6; Gimenez 6 (63′ Rafael Leao 5.5), Pulisic 5 (74′ Nkunku 5.5). Juventus 0-0 Milan – Honours even in cagey affair in Turin as Pulisic misses penalty Juventus and Milan shared the points at the Allianz Stadium this evening after a 0-0 draw marked by a dramatic penalty miss from in-form Rossoneri forward Christian Pulisic. It was a cagey affair to begin with; neither team prepared to take many risks in the early stages. ............ Jonathan David continued his woes in front of goal in the first of two communication mix-ups with Weston McKennie, rising to meet a cross before heading it down at the feet of McKennie who does not have enough time to react. ............ Juventus continued to exploit the space out wide, with McKennie once again getting on the end of a cross but deflecting past everyone and out for a goal kick. A few minutes later, Locatelli played a superb pass through to Kalulu on the right-hand side, with the Frenchman putting the ball on a plate for Jonathan David. However, the summer signing lost his footing and slipped over. Milan had the last good chance of the first half, when a surging run from Pavlovic on the flank saw the defender put a great ball into the box, with Santiago Gimenez heading wide from close range. ............ Juventus started the second half strong, after a short corner taken by Conceicao sees the winger put a good ball into the box, flying past everyone to the back post where Gatti blasts the shot on the volley and Maignan pulled off a wonderful reflex save to deny the Bianconeri defender. Milan finally had their chance to break the dead lock when Lloyd Kelly clumsily fouled Gimenez in the box in the 52nd minute. However, Christian Pulisic stepped up and blasted the ball over the bar, giving Juventus a huge let-off. Milan took control of the game after the penalty miss, pushing hard with Luka Modric orchestrating play in the middle of the park. Juventus had flashes after the hour mark before Rafael Leao came on and nearly marked his cameo with an instant impact. The Portuguese forward saw Juventus keeper Di Gregorio off his line and attempted to lob the shot-stopper from the halfway line. The ball was struck well and the goalkeeper was left scrambling but the shot ended up just over the bar. ............ Juventus’ subs gave them some much needed energy but resulted in the loss of taking off their two most dangerous players on the night: Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao. The game lost a lot of momentum in the closing stages, Tudor attempted to switch things up by bringing on Filip Kostic for Daniele Rugani but it was too little too late. Allegri’s Milan dug in to pick up a clean sheet and a valuable point on the road. ............ However, with Pulisic’s missed penalty, Milan will be disappointed they were not able to pick up three points at the home ground of one of their fiercest rivals. .
