Serie A teams meet to decide if they should reduce the number of teams

lega_serie_a.jpg

Juventus, along with other Serie A teams, is convening today to deliberate on the future of the competition. Serie A stands among the top five football leagues globally, alongside the Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, and La Liga. Notably, Serie A, along with La Liga and Bundesliga, currently features 20 clubs, a number that might undergo a reduction.

Speculation has been circulating for weeks that the Italian top-flight teams are considering a reduction to 18 clubs, and this matter will be under discussion during today’s meeting. ...........

Juventus, being one of the prominent teams in the country, is likely less concerned about the number of teams it faces. The rationale behind contemplating a reduction in the number of teams is the increasing workload on footballers, with more games per year. This situation is anticipated to intensify with the introduction of the new Champions League and Club World Cup competitions. ...........

Juventus vs Frosinone Calcio: Preview and Prediction

Coppa Italia: Juventus vs Frosinone: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast

Favourites Juventus will face off against Frosinone Calcio with a Coppa Italia semi-final spot on the line

Frosinone Calcio will be eyeing a third Serie A scalp when they travel to Turin to take on Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarter final on Thursday night.

The minnows saw off Pisa in the Round of 64 before overcoming Torino in extra time in the Round of 32. However, their standout performance came in the Last 16, where they stunned defending Serie A holders SSC Napoli by an emphatic scoreline of 4-0.

Meanwhile, Juventus entered the competition only in the Round of 16 and made short work of Salernitana, winning the tie 6-1. Once again at home, Massimiliano Allegri’s men will aim to book their spot in the final four of the competition.

The most successful team in Coppa Italia history, Juventus have secured the trophy 14 times. They have failed to make it to the semi-finals just once in the last nine years and will hope to face off against AS Roma or SS Lazio in the final four.

With defending champions Inter Milan knocked out, Juventus will have their eyes on a first Coppa Italia since 2021. ...........

Team News & Tactics

Juventus

Juventus will be without Adrien Rabiot, who is out injured. Massimiliano Allegri will also be bereft of the Moise Kean and Mattia De Sciglio, both of whom are also set for a spell on the sidelines.

It is not all bad news as Manuel Locatelli returns from suspension. More so, Federico Chiesa and Andrea Cambiaso have recovered rom a knee injury and illness, respectively, to return to contention for the game.

Allegri is expected to retain his 3-5-2 formation for the match. Mattia Perin should start in goal ahead of first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. He should be protected by the back three of Federico Gatti, Daniele Rugani and Gleison Bremer.

Cambiaso and Kostic should provide the width with the trio of Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli and Fabio Miretti holding the fort in the middle of the park. Kenan Yildiz and Arkadiusz Milik should get the nod in attack.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Perin; Gatti, Brember, Rugani; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Yildiz, Milik

Juventus vs Frosinone Calcio: Preview and Prediction.

Frosinone  ...........

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Turati; Monterisi, Okoli, Bonifazi, Lirola; Mazzitelli, Barrenechea, Harroui; Soule, Jorge, Ibrahimovic

Juventus vs Frosinone Calcio: Preview and Prediction.

Key Stats

  • Frosinone have never ever defeated Juventus in their history, drawing one and losing the remaining six clashes.
  • Juventus have won the Coppa Italia 14 times in their history, more than any other side in the competition.
  • Frosinone are already enjoying their best ever run in the Italian Cup this season. Should they win, it will be their first ever semifinal appearance in Coppa Italia history.
  • This is the first meeting between Frosinone and Juventus in the Coppa Italia.
  • Juventus are making their 17th straight appearance in the Coppa Italia.

Player to Watch

Arkadiusz Milik

The Polish international is behind Dusan Vlahovic in the pecking order but has the minerals to make a real difference for Juventus on the field. Vlahovic is likely to start on the bench, paving the way for Milik to make an impact.

The 29-year-old has scored a mere two goals and one assist in 19 games across all competitions. While the numbers are not prolific, his ability is unquestioned and against Frosinone, he has the ability to prove to Massimiliano Allegri that Juventus have a scorer they can rely on.

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Frosinone Calcio

Juventus are in form at the moment, while Frosinone are going through a rut. Given the difference in quality between both the teams, Juventus are the heavy favourites for the match-up.

Having defeated Napoli, can lightning strike twice for Frosinone? It appears unlikely. With home support to boot, it is difficult to see anything other than a comfortable win for the Bianconeri. ...........

Juventus vs. Frosinone match preview

Juventus will face another provincial club with a chance to get to the Coppa Italia semifinals at the Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.

Juventus FC vs. Frosinone - YouTube

It’s not necessarily playing the same team twice within the span of four days, but Juventus’ opponents in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals are very much somebody they’ve seen very recently.

Instead of a couple of days, this time around it’s a couple of weeks.

And in those couple of weeks, things have not gotten any better for Juventus’ group of young loanees as the rest of the Frosinone squad. ...........

Frosinone’s upset win over Napoli in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 has proven to be one of the few results that have gone Eusebio Di Francesco’s way over the last six weeks. That win over Napoli in the last round of the Coppa Italia is the only victory Frosinone has recorded in its last seven games. They’ve not only see the goal scoring record slow down, but they’re leaking goals at an even quicker rate than they were at the beginning of the season. ...........

TEAM NEWS

  • Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli — still suspended.
  • Mattia De Sciglio and Moise Kean — still out injured.
  • Federico Chiesa and Adrien Rabiot will also miss out on Thursday’s game due to their respective ailments. Both have trained away from the group so far this week.
  • Andrea Cambiaso has recovered from the flu. but Allegri said the Italian fullback/wingback is unlikely to be in the starting lineup.
  • Same goes for Samuel Iling-Junior, who also trained away from the group on Tuesday after picking up a slight calf injury coming out of the win over Salernitana over the weekend.
  • Dusan Vlahovic, while himself coming down with the flu and missing training on Tuesday, is still expected to be available against Frosinone, according to Allegri.
  • Allegri said that his only starting lineup decision in defense is between Danilo and Daniele Rugani.
  • This will be Max Allegri’s 400th game as manager at Juventus. That’s a lot of games. ...........

Official Juventus team to face Frosinone for a place in Coppa Italia semi’s

Juventus vs Frosinone Prediction, Betting Tips & Oddsmakers │11 JANUARY , 2024

Juventus are looking to progress to the Coppa Italia semi-finals and this is the team that Max Allegri has selected to get the job done against Frosinone.

Juve is taking the Coppa Italia seriously, this was shown when they dispatched Salernitana 6-1 in the last round and they are expected to get a positive result against Frosinone, a team that is far inferior to Juve and probably going to end up in a relegation dog fight. ............

Juventus: Perin; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Weah, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Milik, Yildiz

Frosinone: Cerofolini; Romagnoli, Okoli, Lusuardi; Garritano, Brescianini, Mazzitelli, Lirola; Harroui, Ibrahimovic; Kaio Jorge

Juventus 4 - Frosinone 0: Initial reaction and random observations

Juventus FC v Frosinone Calcio: Quarter Final - Coppa Italia

Thursday night marked the 400th time in which Max Allegri has managed a game for Juventus. And with that very notable accomplishment, one could say (even with a fair bit of humor behind it) that the perfect way to mark such an occasion would be to have a beloved corto muso kind of win. It would have been something that you know would make Max smile on the inside even if he was screaming on the outside.

What played out was not corto muso.

Instead, it was a second straight Coppa Italia blowout in front of the hometown faithful.

It wasn’t quite the absolute thrashing that Juventus put forth last week against Salernitana to open 2024, but it was pretty close. For the second straight Thursday night of Coppa Italia football at the Allianz Stadium, Juventus went out and recorded one of their highest-single game goal tallies of the last couple of years. It was led by a hat trick from Arek Milik, two world-class assists from Weston McKennie and capped by Kenan Yildiz latest piece of individual magic, as Allegri’s squad continue to roll right along in a 4-0 win over Juventus B Frosinone to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 16 games.

With it comes the final spot in the Coppa Italia semifinals and a two-legged tie against Maurizio Sarri and Lazio to try and get back to the final, something they missed out on last season. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • You think Mattia Perin enjoyed not surrendering a goal in the first minute this time around? Because I think he did for the simple fact that he was still very much screaming his head off at his defense in the closing minutes against Frosinone. He wanted that clean sheet.
  • Juventus are undefeated in games that Joseph Nonge plays in. #OptaBWRAO strikes again.
  • Juventus have now scored 12 goals in their first three games of 2024. That’s an average of four per game. That’s sustainable!
  • This, my friends, is a badass picture

Juventus FC v Frosinone Calcio: Quarter Final - Coppa Italia

  • Yildiz didn’t really hit that shot of his on the goal all that purely. On one angle it looks like it almost hits off his upper shin rather than his foot. But you know what? It was a beautiful goal no matter how Yildiz actually scored it.
  • That assist from McKennie on Yildiz’s goal — that was GORGEOUS.
  • And that’s saying something since McKennie’s first assist of the night was REALLY GOOD, too. Like, to have an assist that was better than that one to Milik had to be a dime — and it was.
  • Also, the whole combination between Milik and McKennie on Juve’s second goal of the night was genuinely fantastic. Milik was on Juve’s half of the field when he sent a long ball out wide to McKennie, then went on the dead sprint into the Frosinone box to get on the end of McKennie’s cut inside and assist. Just a great goal all the way around.
  • Imagine if McKennie had scored a goal against Frosinone on top of his two (great) assists. Do you go with the guy who had the hat trick or the guy who had a goal and two assists as the man of the match? That would have been a tougher decision than you think.
  • One last McKennie note because he deserves it: How good is Allegri’s decision to bring McKennie back into the squad over the summer looking right about now? The guy has been one of Juve’s three or four best players this season without a doubt. The guy who struggled at Leeds United looks completely reinvigorated now that he’s back with Juventus. Thank you to Max for his call and thank you to Jesse Marsch (and the other managers Wes had in England) for not keeping Leeds up and thus having McKennie return to Juventus. ............
  • I kept looking for Kaio Jorge in this game but I figured out at halftime that he was in Bremer’s pocket. There seems to be a lot of opposing strikers who can say that this season.
  • Speaking of Bremer, there were just a couple of defensive actions where I was just sitting there with the kind of reaction like “Goddamn, this guy is just so good” afterward. The guy has taken that step up in performance from Year 1 to Year 2 with Juventus. He’s so damn good. ............
  • Filip Kostic was solid against Frosinone. Not great, but not terrible. Just ... solid.
  • Very glad Matias Soule’s second-half appearance didn’t result in anything. The last thing we needed to see was a player on loan from Juventus suddenly making things awkward for Juventus at the stadium in which Juventus calls home. Nice to see him get a warm reception when he was subbed on, though.
  • Ten goals in two Coppa Italia games. It just makes me laugh.

Juventus 4-0 Frosinone: Hosts reach Coppa Italia semis as Milik nets hat-trick| All Football

The Polish star has been one of the strikers at the club this season but has not been getting plenty of game time. ............

“They have a good chaplain” – Inter CEO Marotta identifies the main reason why he fears Juventus

Allegri az Inter vezetőségének: „ti egy rakás sz*r vagytok…” | Goal.com Magyarország

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta states that Juventus must be feared, mainly due to the presence of Massimiliano Allegri.

The duo know one another well having worked together in Turin between 2014 and 2018.

The 66-year-old was the general manager of Juventus at the time, and he appointed Allegri as a replacement for Antonio Conte following the latter’s sudden departure in pre-season. ............

The Nerazzurri director was asked why his club should fear the challenge of his former employers who remain their ultimate rivals in the Scudetto race.

Marotta didn’t hesitate to highlight Allegri and his vast experience as Juve’s strongest attributes while running a clerical metaphor.

“Juve have a nice reverend and a good chaplain in Allegri,” said the Inter CEO in his pre-match interview.

“His experience is certainly important. The priest is preaching important lessons and his men are now mentally strong. They can be truly competitive. ............

How will Juventus replace suspended McKennie and Gatti against Sassuolo

Juve: Gatti, Cambiaso e McKennie, i tre outsider che fanno la fortuna di Allegri | Gazzetta.it

In the 20th matchday of Serie A, Juventus will play at an unusual time slot, hosting Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday night.

The extra days of rest would afford Max Allegri’s men additional time to recover their optimal conditions following Thursday’s Coppa Italia victory over Frosinone.

Nevertheless, the manager still has to come up with solutions to replace Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie who collected their fifth bookings of the season in Salerno.

With the Italian defender and the Texan midfielder serving a one-match ban, who will Allegri employ in their stead? ............

Adrien Rabiot could pull off a timely return to action.

The Frenchman missed the midweek cup fixture due to muscle fatigue but the pink newspaper expects him to rejoin his teammates for the Serie A contest against Sassuolo.

This would be a major boost for Allegri who is also counting on the return of Federico Chiesa. ............

Chiesa and Rabiot offer Juventus a timely injury boost

Rabiot e Chiesa recupereranno per la sfida della Juventus contro il Sassuolo?

Federico Chiesa and Adrien Rabiot have provided Juventus with a significant injury boost, as they are poised to be part of the team for the upcoming game against Sassuolo.

Both players play crucial roles for Juve, and the Bianconeri are notably stronger when they are in the lineup.

Juve is determined to secure victory in the league and has been putting in considerable effort to achieve that goal. Thanks to the availability of Chiesa and Rabiot, they are closing in on Inter Milan.

Having suffered their only league defeat this season against Sassuolo, Juve sees the upcoming match as an opportunity to avenge that loss in the coming week. ............

Chiesa returns against Sassuolo, Milik and Yildiz vie for starting role – Who will Allegri choose?

Chiesa misses Coppa Italia tie in Allegri's 400th Juventus game | Reuters

Juventus will regain the services for Federico Chiesa for the upcoming encounter against Sassuolo.

The Italian star had to skip the club’s last two fixtures due to a slight injury. He remained at home while his teammates earned a hard-fought victory in Salerno and was also unavailable for the 4-0 thrashing of Frosinone in the Coppa Italia last Thursday. ............

Juventus coach Max Allegri will be looking to choose between Milik and Yildiz for Tuesday’s encounter against Sassuolo.

Dusan Vlahovic, who started on the bench in the Coppa Italia, will certainly return to the starting lineup. ............

Yildiz is the slight favorite to join the former Fiorentina star in attack.

This would be the 18-year-old’s fourth start in the last five fixtures, showcasing the manager’s undoubted trust in his capabilities. ............

Juventus vs Sassuolo: Preview and Prediction

Juventus vs Sassuolo Prediction & Betting Tips - 16/01/2024

Massimiliano Allegri will demand absolute focus from the Juventus players ahead of their crucial clash with ‘bogey’ team Sassuolo. The Bianconeri have suffered only one defeat all season in the league, which came against their next opponent in the reverse fixture.

Since then, Juventus have raked in 36 points, which includes 11 wins in 14 games, representing the best form of any team in the league. In the last match, they kept up the pressure on leaders Inter Milan courtesy of a late strike from Dusan Vlahovic to down Salernitana. But the Nerrazzuri have since thrashed Monza 5-1 to open up a five-point lead.

Juventus can go top of the league if they win against Sassuolo and then beat Lecce, as Inter Milan will be taking part in the Supercoppa Italiana this week. The Nerrazzuri can retake their two-point lead subsequently. But the Bianconeri can apply more pressure by going top during that two-game period. ............

However, since their win over Juventus in the reverse fixture, Sassuolo have barely progressed, considering they are very close to the relegation zone. Only two points separate Dionisi’s team from 18th-placed Hellas Verona, although irrespective of their result in Turin, they will maintain that gap to the bottom three after this round. ............

Team News & Tactics

Juventus

Massimiliano Allegri will have to make do without Moise Kean and Mattia De Sciglio for this clash. Juventus also have Weston McKennie and Federico Gatti suspended for this fixture, meaning the manager could make slight tweaks to his preferred starting Lineup.

Allegri will hope Adrien Rabiot has recovered from his thigh problem that saw him miss last week’s Coppa Italia clash, and the expectations point toward the midfielder starting against Sassuolo. At the back, the manager will decide on three centre-backs, although there is only one spot available, with Daniele Rugani and Alex Sandro in direct contention for it.

Rabiot could have Manuel Locatelli and Fabio Miretti for company in central midfield, while Andrea Cambiaso and Filip Kostic are the preferred choices for the wing-back roles. Kenan Yildiz will keep performing in a starting role, while Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic contend for the other striker spot.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Szczesny; Rugani, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, Mirretti, Locateli, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Yildiz

Sassuolo

............

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Pedersen, Erlic, Ferrari, Viti; Boloca, Henrique; Berardi, Thorstvedt, Lauriente; Pinamonti.

Key Stats

  • Juventus have seen over 2.5 goals in 13 of their last 14 matches against Sassuolo in all competitions.
  • Juventus have won ten of their last 12 home matches against Sassuolo in all competitions.
  • Juventus have won 11 of their last 14 matches since losing to Sassuolo.
  • Sassuolo have won three of their last five wins in Serie A against top four contenders this season.
  • Sassuolo are only two points ahead of 18th-placed.

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

 ............

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Sassuolo

There is a chance this game will end in a draw, considering how well Sassuolo have played against top sides, particularly Juventus, in the last few seasons. However, the Bianconeri are in a good vein of form to worry about another shock defeat against Alessio Dionisi’s men.

With home advantage also on their side, Juventus are the prime favourite to take three points and close the gap on Inter Milan at the top of the table. Massimiliano Allegri will demand they collect three points, and in doing so, the Bianconeri might look for a clean sheet.

Juventus probable formation vs Sassuolo: Rabiot vying for starting spot

rabiot-vlahovic-roma.jpg

This evening, Juventus will host Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium for what will be their first fixture in the second half of the Serie A campaign.

The Bianconeri will seek vengeance against the only team that toppled them this season.

So how will Max Allegri line up his troops when he takes on his former employers?

Wojciech Szczesny will start in goal with the defensive trio of Danilo, Gleison Bremer, and Daniele Rugani ahead of him.

The latter appears to be the favorite to replace the suspended Federico Gatti, leaving Alex Sandro on the bench.

In the middle of the park, the source expects the return of Adrien Rabiot. While the manager had confirmed that the  Frenchman had overcome injury, his starting berth remains in doubt. ............

In attack, Kenan Yildiz should maintain his starting berth, linking up with Dusan Vlahovic who was rested in the Coppa Italia fixture against Frosinone.

Federico Chiesa returns from injury but should start from the bench. ............

Szczesny; Danilo, Bremer, Rugani; Cambiaso, Miretti, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Yildiz, Vlahovic ..... or .....

Szczesny; Danilo, Bremer, Rugani; Weah, Cambiaso, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic, Yildiz, Vlahovic.

Official Juventus team to face Sassuolo – Vlahovic and Yildiz start

Afbeelding

 ............

Juventus have to win this game, Inter are already five points ahead and that sort of lead, if maintained, would be hard for Juve to overcome, whereas victory today would put the pressure back on Inter and there is every reason to feel confident that Allegri and his boys will get the job done. ............

However, Juve cannot be complacent, shock results happen all the time and Sassuolo have inflicted the odd defeat on the big boys in the past.

That said, as long as Juve plays to their level they really should be winning this game.

Two stunning Vlahovic strikes earn Juventus the win against Sassuolo

Dušan Vlahović scores 2 and Juventus beats Sassuolo 3-0 to move 2 points behind Serie A leader Inter - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Juventus have addressed one of the pivotal questions regarding their title chances this season: will they defeat Sassuolo at home? The Bianconeri have suffered only one defeat this season, and it came at the hands of the Black and Greens. Recognised as one of the most attacking teams in Serie A, Sassuolo consistently poses challenges for Juventus and other opposing clubs.

As Juve strives for the title, this phase of the campaign demands a proactive approach in every game, aiming for victory. It is also a crucial period for all players to elevate their performance levels, a feat successfully achieved by Dusan Vlahovic. Although the Serbian striker hasn’t scored as frequently as desired since joining the club, he made a significant impact by opening the scoring with a remarkable strike just 15 minutes into the game. Subsequently, 22 minutes later, Vlahovic found the back of the net again, this time from a superbly executed free kick. ............

Federico Chiesa, coming off the bench, secured Juventus’s third goal, sealing a victory on a good night in Turin.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Sassuolo: Vlahovic Is Back!

vlahovic-gol-juventus_12504091190x786.jpg

 ............

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 7

Despite what the final scoreline may suggest, the former Arsenal man still had an integral role to play in preserving his team’s lead. Pulled off a solid save on Armand Lauriente in the first half and then a stunning reaction stop to deny Domenico Berardi’s deflected shot.

Daniele Rugani – 6.5  ............

Gleison Bremer – 7

An almost bullish display from the Brazilian defender who simply ate Andrea Pinamonti alive in what proved to be an agonizing mismatch for the former Inter striker.

Danilo – 7

The Juventus captain produced a series of vital interceptions to deny the opposition. He was entrusted with the task of marking Berardi and did fairly well.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5

The former Genoa man made himself involved in almost every action, even if he found some difficulties in skipping past Mattia Viti. Started as a right wingback but then had a cameo in midfield, showcasing his versatility.

Fabio Miretti – 6  ............

Manuel Locatelli – 7

A splendid display from the 26-year-old who bossed the middle of the park against his former employers. Rounded off a memorable night by providing the assist for Chiesa’s goal.

Adrien Rabiot – 6  ............

Filip Kostic – 6  ............

Kenan Yildiz – 6

The latest Juventus revelation showcased his incredible skillset with his some fascinating dribbles, but was slightly less efficient in his final touch this time.

Dusan Vlahovic – 8.5

A superb performance from the former Fiorentina bomber who opened the scoring with a fabulous curler that dipped into the far corner, before tormenting Andrea Consigli with a vicious freekick. He’s finally looking like the Vlahovic of old.

Substitutes

Federico Chiesa – 6.5

The Italy star announced his return from injury by putting his stamp on the win with a late third goal. While it was a scrappy finish, it will serve as a valuable morale booster.

Timothy Weah – 5  ............

Arkadiusz Milik – 6  ............

Samuel Iling-Junior – N/A

Alex Sandro – N/A

Juventus 3 - Sassuolo 0: Initial reaction and random observations

The high-flying Juventus that we’ve seen in 2024 added three more goals to its name against Sassuolo.

Vlahovic finds magic as Juve stomp out the bad memories against Sassuolo - Black & White & Read All Over

There have been a good number of points through the first half of the 2023-24 season in which we’ve openly wondered what it would take to get Juventus’ strikers going again. It seemed like nothing but defenders or midfielders were scoring goals, with the two guys up front — namely Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa — not exactly lighting things up. ............

The difference between Juventus and Inter atop the Serie A table is back down to two points after the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium. It was not only the kind of Vlahovic-inspired win that cleansed a little bit of the lasting memories from the first time Juve played Sassuolo this season, but it was another example of how Juve have been approaching games a little bit differently in the new year. The goals were absolute things of beauty from Vlahovic to build a 2-0 halftime lead and then Chiesa to close any chance that Sassuolo had of coming back late in the second half. Throw in the fact that one of the major players in Juve’s horror show back in September, Wojciech Szczesny, made a pair of fantastic saves to keep Sassuolo off the scoreboard and you’ve got the makings of another quality win that suddenly has Juve looking about as dangerous as they’ve looked in ... years? ............

Throw in there that Inter off this weekend due to their participation in the four-team Supercoppa mini-tournament in Saudi Arabia, there is a very real possibility that Juve — albeit with one more game played — could be ahead of Inter in the standings when the two teams meet at the San Siro during the first weekend of February.

That is still two weeks away, though.

For now, we can enjoy the success — and goals! — that Juventus has only continued to show during the new year.

Let’s just do a quick dive into what Juve has done through their first four games of 2024:

  • Fifteen goals scored
  • Two goals allowed

For comparison sake, Juventus scored seven goals in five December games. They scored four goals in three games in November. They scored four goals in for games in October. It was corto muso to the core and Allegri, for the most part, seemed like somebody who was more than happy to have his team grind out win after win no matter if it was an opponent competing for a spot in the top four or somebody in the bottom third of the Serie A table. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Personally, I liked this performance against Sassuolo much more than the last one. That’s just me, though. Feel free to disagree! I won’t hold it against you!
  • How I feel when Juventus has scored as many goals as they have through the first couple of weeks of 2024 ...

Juventus v US Sassuolo - Serie A TIM

  • Kenan Yildiz’s reaction to Vlahovic’s free kick was great.
  • The whole stadium erupting in unison in reaction to Vlahovic’s free kick was great.
  • It was a great free kick and one that deserved the reaction it got from Vlahovic’s teammates, coaches and Juve supporters alike. Just so, so good. ............
  • This was the kind of night in which Vlahovic reminded everybody why Juve paid all of that money for him two years ago this month.
  • The last four or six weeks has seen Vlahovic really take a step forward with his level of play. On this night he was rewarded with a pair of goals. Other games he’s gotten the deciding goal when Juventus needed it desperately. Hopefully this is the true turning of a corner we’re seeing from a player that is starting to make a big, big difference on the field.
  • Sassuolo finished with three shots, two of which were on frame. Both saves Tek had to make in this game proved to be very good ones, especially the second one to keep Domenico Berardi from scoring. It was made even the more difficult with the deflection it took after Danilo and Szczesny having to immediately change which direction he was about to dive to. When you consider how the first game of the season against Sassuolo went, that save had to feel pretty damn good. ............
  • This was just another great all-around game from Locatelli as well. He’s really taken a big step forward the last couple of months and is giving Juve some hugely important stability in the midfield. As much as things have changed around him with injuries and suspensions this season, Locatelli just continues to be a calming yet very important influence on this team.
  • Another shutout with Daniele Rugani in the lineup. Don’t say it’s not a trend. ............
  • Funny how this is probably the quietest start Yildiz has had over the last month and he still had a couple of simply brilliant individual moves and nearly broke the ankles of a couple of defenders. I know I’ve said it a lot lately, but this 18-year-kid just wants to take your soul whenever he’s dribbling at you and it is very, very fun to watch. I’m happy he’s a Juve player.
  • Juventus at home in Serie A this season: 10 games, eight wins, two draws, league-best 26 points. Yeah, that’ll play.

Allegri: Juventus must maintain this team spirit and cohesion

Coach’s comments after Juve register another thumping win, this time over Sassuolo

Mentaliteit van een kampioen: Allegri eist meer van paradepaardjes Juve - Voetbal International

Juventus are going through a purple patch right now, having registered six straight wins in the league and Coppa Italia while scoring a whopping eighteen goals and conceding just three in that spell. Granted that some of those were against reserves in the cup competition, it’s still quite the streak Juve are on against opponents that have traditionally caused the Bianconeri trouble.

Speaking after the game, coach Massimiliano Allegri was asked if he was enjoying himself right now.

“It’s not a matter of enjoyment, all that really counts in football is winning games. The rest is irrelevant.

“This was a Sassuolo side that beat Fiorentina last week, put four goals past us in September, with talented players like Berardi and Lauriente who forced big saves from Szczesny.

“We are happy, but we have to focus on Sunday’s game with Lecce. We have 49 points, we must keep going, keep working and keep this up.

“It was a good game, we had a lot of chances, but needed to be sharper in the final third. Those who came off the bench did well and that is very important. We must maintain this team spirit and cohesion, which is very important, but also work on our limitations.” ............

Kenan Yildiz has taken the league by storm and despite being only 18 years old is already becoming a regular for the Bianconeri.

“There are few who can control the ball like Yildiz. On top of that, he rarely makes the wrong decisions, that is innate talent, we didn’t have to teach him that. However, he is young and it is only natural at 18 there will be an off period, but we have other options and that is fine.

“I want him to do more, as he can make the difference.”

The coach tends to be pretty tough on Dusan Vlahovic, and despite the striker’s brilliant brace tonight, Allegri maintained his stance on the striker.

“Vlahovic is improving. When he came on against Frosinone the other night, he had a bad half-hour because he was so desperate to do everything. That was a sign of lacking maturity and I had a talk to him.

“He was much calmer this evening, didn’t argue as much with the referee, but he must continue working to avoid these errors in future.”

Juve have been chasing Inter at the top of the table for the majority of the season so far, does the coach prefer to be the hunter or the hunted in the title race?

“If there is someone in front, there has to be someone behind. We must do well to stay calm, focus on one game at a time. ............

Dionisi admits Juventus is stronger at the Allianz Stadium

Juventus kruipt met zege op Sassuolo dichter naar koploper Internazionale

Sassuolo manager Alessio Dionisi believes the outcome of their 3-0 loss to Juventus last night was harsh for his team. ............

Juve was not in the mood to be surprised by Sassuolo, and they demonstrated it with an excellent performance on the pitch.

Ultimately, they deservedly secured the victory, leaving Sassuolo feeling like the smaller team they are. ............

“We weren’t perfect, we have responsibility for their goals. The result was too harsh, but Juve is stronger at home than away from home. If you’re not perfect, it becomes impossible to get a result.” ............

Bremer reveals what Allegri asked from them before beating Sassuolo

Juventus-Sassuolo 3-0, cronaca, tabellino e voti: Vlahovic e Chiesa riportano i bianconeri a -2 dall'Inter | Goal.com Italia

Juventus avenged their painful loss in the reverse fixture by defeating Sassuolo in Serie A last night.

Sassuolo has consistently proven to be a tough opponent for Juve, and the Bianconeri were in disarray during the first game of the encounter. ............

After the match, Gleison Bremer spoke about the demand from Max Allegri, who instructed them to stay focused.

He said:

“We played a good match and a good result. We lost in the first leg, we are happy. We must continue like this. The coach asks us to be concentrated, Now we’re thinking about Lecce, not Inter. If we win all the games we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.” ............

Commentator suggests Juventus is behind Inter because of referee errors

204352511-06f37661-446f-4f29-8d76-bc331e80bea0.png

Juventus has maintained a strong position in second place in the Serie A table, positioning themselves as formidable challengers to Inter Milan in the race for the Italian championship.

The Bianconeri have diligently worked to stay within striking distance of the top of the league standings throughout the season. While they have secured the second spot for months, there is speculation about whether they could have claimed the top position.

Serie A has witnessed numerous instances of inconsistent refereeing and VAR decisions this season, influencing the standings of the clubs, particularly at the top of the table. ............

According to journalist Graziano Campi, these refereeing decisions have been a crucial factor in distinguishing between the seasons of Juventus and Inter Milan.

He said:

“The difference between Juve and Inter in the standings today, according to the errors admitted by Rocchi last week, lies entirely in luck with the referees. In his place, I would have avoided that list of serious and clear errors.” ............

Journalist discusses the importance of Juventus match against Lecce

Lecce - Juventus live uitslagen, H2H en opstellingen | Sofascore

Juventus will have the opportunity to reclaim the top spot on the Serie A table in the upcoming weeks and potentially maintain that position for a certain period.

The Bianconeri have earned this chance through their persistent efforts to stay near Inter Milan in the league standings. Despite not possessing the same squad depth and quality as Inter, Juventus has remained competitive, with their players consistently delivering strong performances. ............

Their upcoming match against Lecce, followed by the fixture against Empoli, will see Juventus playing one more game than Inter. This provides them with the opportunity to ascend to the top of the league standings and potentially maintain that position for several weeks.

Pavan says winning against Lecce is very important and explains why:

“Juve is finding their attackers again, a good part of the season is being played in Lecce, because with a victory Juventus could stay at the top of the table for a week or maybe more, Juve is playing a lot in Puglia, we’ll see if he’ll be able to play a great game.” ............

Saudi Arabia dissatisfied with Supercoppa - They wanted Juventus and Milan

L'ideatore della Supercoppa Italiana sulla Final Four in Arabia Saudita: non doveva diventare così

The new Supercoppa Italiana format will get underway today, but the amount of interest that it is getting in Saudi Arabia has been dampened by the absence of Italy’s two biggest clubs.

The 2024 Supercoppa will officially kick off today, with Inter fighting to defend their crown against Lazio, Fiorentina and Napoli in the four-team format that has taken over from the previous one.

On the eve of the first semi-final – the Saudi population including journalists and fans present asked their Italian colleagues why two teams like Fiorentina and Lazio had been sent to Riyadh ‘instead of of Juventus and Milan’.

It then fell to the CEO of Serie A, Luigi De Siervo, to explain in a press conference that this is the formula for the Supercoppa, then ensuring that this evening’s match ‘between Napoli and Fiorentina will be a beautiful match’. ............
