Allegri facing selection headache ahead in attack ahead of Lecce clash

Yildiz e Chiesa possono giocare insieme? I tifosi della Juventus sognano, Allegri frena | Goal.com Italia

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has an attacking dilemma as his side prepares to take on Lecce on Sunday night.

With league leaders Inter off to Saudi Arabia, the Bianconeri will have a golden opportunity to climb to the top of the Serie A standings, albeit temporarily, if they prevail over their hosts at the Via del Mare Stadium. ............

The tactician is facing a selection headache in attack now that Federico Chiesa has regained his optimal physical shape.

The Italian star marked his return from injury on Tuesday with a second-half cameo that saw him score Juve’s third goal against Sassuolo in the dying embers of the game.

Therefore, Allegri could restore Chiesa to the starting lineup against the Giallorossi, but it would come at the expense of Kenan Yildiz who has been vastly impressive over the past month. ............

On the other hand, Dusan Vlahovic will certainly maintain his starting berth after scoring a fabulous brace against the Emilians, keeping Arkadiusz Milik on the bench. ............

Argentina coach says Juventus is the “Real Madrid of Italy”

Preview: Juventus vs Real Madrid - Juventus

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has called Juventus the “Real Madrid of Italy” and emphasises that they should not be overlooked in the Serie A title race.

Juventus has demonstrated strong form in recent weeks, making a significant push for the league crown. Despite their commendable performance, Inter Milan continues to lead the standings and remains a popular choice among football followers for the title. ............

With Inter engaged in the Super Cup this week, Juventus has the opportunity to claim the top spot in the next few weeks if they secure victories in their upcoming matches. Despite not being viewed as favourites by some fans, Scaloni acknowledges Inter’s favouritism but asserts that Juventus still has a viable chance to win the Serie A title.

“I say Inter, but with Juve you never know: it’s the Real Madrid of Italy”. ............

Massimo Pavan warns Juventus against conceding goals when they face Lecce

Lecce vs. Juventus en vivo: cómo verlo, horario y TV - TyC Sports

Juventus’ next Serie A match is against Lecce, and it is a game that they must win to secure the league’s top spot.

With Inter Milan not playing this weekend due to their Super Cup commitments, Juventus has an opportunity to overtake them on the league table if they can collect all three points. ............

Ahead of the game journalist Massimo Pavan talked about the dangers Juve faces against a team like Lecce and warned:

“Juventus in Lecce must go back to not conceding away goals, it will be a difficult match, but the Bianconeri have the weapons to do badly, starting from dead balls, it will be a difficult match like in the first leg, it is essential not to concede goal to win”. ............

Allegri warns Juventus of presumption trap

Coach’s comments as Juve prepare for trip to Lecce.

Juventus Training Session

Juventus return to action this weekend with an away game at 13th placed Lecce, with an opportunity to leapfrog Inter Milan into the league lead with the current leaders away in the Middle East playing for the Supercoppa Italiana.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, coach Massimiliano Allegri gave a squad update first.

“The team are good, they had a good training session yesterday. Tomorrow there’ll be no Adrien Rabiot and Federico Chiesa. Rabiot has a calf strain, while Federico had a flare-up of his knee problem and will be evaluated in the next few days.

“We don’t have those two players available, but we have some to play tomorrow. We’ll evaluate Rabiot, the calf is a very risky area. For Chiesa, the doctors will evaluate him.” ............

“There are some horses that need blinkers and others that don’t. The difference is that for some it bothers them having a horse near and maybe they slow down. Juve don’t have blinkers, the other day I liked how the team played the match with confidence.

“What has been done up to now counts for nothing, it matters tomorrow evening. Football thrives on balance, if you don’t get a result one week, you can ruin the season.” ............

Lecce vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction

Lecce vs Juventus Prediction & Betting Tips - 21/01/2024

Juventus will look to move above Inter Milan at the top of Serie A table when they make the trip to Via del Mare to face mid-table Lecce on Sunday night.

After a calamitous campaign on all fronts last season, Juventus are looking like genuine title contenders, and the Old Lady’s run of 12 wins and three draws from the past 15 Serie A games has put them within touching distance of the summit ahead of the game against Lecce.

They have now enjoyed six consecutive victories across all competitions, reaching the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia in that run, while Dusan Vlahovic continued his fine form with a stunning brace that fired Juve to a relatively comfortable 3-0 win against Sassuolo on Tuesday night. .............

Team News & Tactics

Lecce

Probable Lineup (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Gallo; Kaba, Ramadani, Gonzalez; Oudin, Krstovic, Almqvist

gdhHmZfOVmYGXPJOa9Lc.png

Juventus

Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie are back from their suspensions and will feature in the starting lineup as Massimiliano Allegri looks to freshen things up after the midweek game.

Dusan Vlahovic was the main catalyst in Juve’s rampant victory over Sassuolo. He opened the scoring with a lovely strike from the edge of the box before tormenting Andrea Consigli with an unstoppable free-kick for his second.

Federico Chiesa also added a third goal in the dying minutes of the same game. But Turkish teenage sensation’s Kenan Yildiz’s dazzling form may keep the Italian winger on the bench for this game at least. .............

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Szczesny; Rugani, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, Miretti, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Yildiz.

9mdKtmXsfxlHQawUPqcy.png

Key Stats

  • Juventus are undefeated in their last 15 Serie A matches.
  • Juventus have won their last four matches against Lecce in all competitions.
  • The Bianconeri have won eight of their last nine games across all competitions.
  • Dusan Vlahovic has scored four goals in his last four league games.
  • Lecce have scored just one goal in their last four games against Juve.

Player to Watch

Dusan Vlahovic

The Serbian hitman has regained his best form in recent weeks, notably bagging a fine brace to contribute to Juventus’s victory over Sassuolo in their last game. Despite Vlahovic’s initial struggles to replicate his goalscoring prowess from his time at Fiorentina, he has become a key player for the Bianconeri after the club tried to sell him last summer without any takers.  .............

Prediction

Lecce 0-1 Juventus

Although Lecce are in a bit of a slump of late, picking up just a point in their last four matches, three of those games were against top-six opponents. Returning to Stadio Via del mare, where they have only lost twice this season, could give them enough of a boost to stay competitive against the Turin giants.

Juventus have been ruthlessly efficient on the road, edging past their opposition by a solitary goal in five of their last six away assignments. And that trend is likely to continue this week.  .............

Roberto D’Aversa admits Juventus is too strong for his Lecce team

Comincia la festa della Juve con Elkann e dirigenza - Calcio - Ansa.it

Lecce manager Roberto D’Aversa anticipates a formidable challenge for his team as they prepare to face Juventus in Serie A this weekend.

They are the latest team to attempt to thwart Juventus from ascending to the top of the Serie A table. With Inter Milan not in action, Juventus has the opportunity to secure the leading position for the next few weeks before their crucial match against Inter at the beginning of the next month. .............

Speaking ahead of the match, D’Aversa said:

“We try to approach it like in the first round, when we lost due to an inactive ball. We conceded little, although they are very strong and will fight until the end to win the Scudetto. Courage and intensity will be needed; they have superior quality, but with intensity and determination we can put them in difficulty.” .............

Lecce vs. Juventus match preview

As Inter hangs out in Saudi Arabia for the extended weekend, Juve have the chance to go top of the table with another win during an impressive start to 2024.

Kijk Lecce - Juventus Live Stream | DAZN BE

 .............

The schedule easing up a little bit simply in terms of the competition level from the opposition has paid dividends for Allegri and Juve to begin 2024. Between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, Juve have played four games so far in January and the results speak for themselves: four wins, 15 goals scored, only two goals allowed and a whole lot of positive energy after a first half of the season where tight, one-goal wins became the norm. While those four wins came against teams sitting either in the relegation zone or right above it, it’s not like things are suddenly changing on that front this weekend, with Juventus heading over to the Stadio Via del Mare to face a Lecce squad that enters Sunday night’s game in 14th place and just four points out of the relegation zone.

There’s also this very important piece to the puzzle: As Inter gets set to play for the Supercoppa on Monday night in Saudi Arabia, a win over Lecce would send Juventus into first place as their arch-rival from Milan tries to capture their first trophy of the season.

With another relegation battler in the form of Empoli on the schedule next week, two wins to finish out January and Juve heads into that showdown with Inter atop the Serie A table. .............

Much like Salernitana, Frosinone and Sassuolo before them, Lecce are not exactly entering their meeting with Juventus in the best of form. They’ve lost three of their last four games and have only scored one goal over that span. (The losses, for the record, have been to Inter, Atalanta and Lazio and away from home, so it’s not like their schedule of late has been all that easy.) Allegri was quick to note during his pre-match press conference that Lecce, while sitting in 14th, have been a side that picked up a result in their last four home games, so it’s not like they’ve been totally wasteful over the last month and a half.

It may sound redundant at this point, but this is very much the same kind of message as the last month or so: Juventus can’t afford to let this opportunity be the one where they slip up. And that’s especially true now considering the showdown at the San Siro is now all of two weeks away. You can see it there, off in the distance, but it’s still a little bit fuzzy because there’s two stops still to go to along the way before you get there. .............

TEAM NEWS

  • The two suspended midfielders, Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli are still suspended.
  • The two injured players who have been out for weeks (or much longer than that), Mattia De Sciglio and Moise Kean, are still out injured.
  • Also out injured are two of Juventus’ most important players: Adrien Rabiot and Federico Chiesa. Rabiot will miss out on the trip to Lecce due to a calf strain while Chiesa's ongoing knee issues continue to flare up and give him issues.
  • Weston McKennie and Federico Gatti are back in the squad after each serving a one-game ban on Tuesday for yellow card accumulation.
  • With Chiesa out, Allegri was not exactly helpful when saying who will start up front, stating “Two of Milik, Yildiz and Vlahovic will play.” Thanks for that heads up, Max.
  • Danilo is the only Juventus player who is a yellow card away from suspension.

JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH

Fabio Miretti of Juventus Fc gestures during the Coppa...

Yes, Fabio Miretti has been playing much better as of late. Maybe it’s the fact that he had a bit of a time on the bench to reset mentally and shake off a tough start to the season. Maybe it’s because he’s looking like a total badass these days while rocking the new Adidas Predator throwbacks. I don’t know. There’s only so much you can tell from so far away. .............

Four of his last five appearances over the last month have been starts, and while I get that some of it has been out of necessity because there’s simply nobody else outside of Joseph Nonge available, Miretti has been taking advantage of the opportunity to suddenly play a whole lot more than he had been along the same lines of Kenan Yildiz.

Maybe not to the level of Yildiz because that’s an extremely high bar to try and match at the moment, but Juventus have been able to do some good things with Miretti in the lineup for Rabiot (and McKennie when he was suspended on Tuesday). Miretti’s involvement in the attacking phase has grown, his runs just seem to be more dangerous and impactful than they had been and, while still a problem at time, he just seems to be playing a little more composed and the decision making has been better as a result.

Fact is, Juve need Miretti to continue to answer the bell while injuries and suspensions are still happening. Doesn’t matter if it’s Rabiot out or somebody else — the depth in midfield is going to be an issue the rest of the season because of who is out for the long term. And the more he performs like he has been lately, the more it will make Juventus a better team. .............

Juventus probable line-up vs Lecce: Yildiz favorite to start again

Allegri: "Yildiz è più grande mentalmente. Vlahovic criticato, lo aiuto"

Juventus teenager Kenan Yildiz could be set for another starting berth as the Bianconeri take on Lecce at the Via del Mare Stadium.

Max Allegri’s men will be hellbent on climbing to the top of the table, albeit provisionally, with Inter away in Saudi Arabia.

The Juventus boss confirmed the absence of Federico Chiesa and Adrien Rabiot due to injuries. So who will he pick for Sunday night’s encounter?

Yildiz is the favorite (60%) to start in attack ahead of Arek Milik (40%).

The Turkish wonderkid has cemented himself as the natural replacement for Chiesa in the supporting striker role.

Therefore, Allegri could trust the 18-year-old once again alongside Dusan Vlahovic who’s enjoying a hot run. .............

Juventus Probable XI (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Yildiz, Vlahovic.

Preview: Lecce vs Juventus – Team News, Lineups & Prediction

Lecce_Juventus_Preview.jpg

Sunday’s Serie A program draws to a close at Stadio Via del Mare as bottom-half Lecce entertain title-bidding Juventus. Both sides desperately need three points, albeit for quite the opposite reasons.

What once seemed like a comfortable cushion on the drop zone has turned into a four-point gap between Lecce and 18th-placed Hellas Verona. Roberto D’Aversa’s emphatic start to his managerial tenure in Puglia is a distant memory now, with Lecce going through a rough patch. .............

Visiting Juventus make this routine-looking journey in the midst of a purple patch, looking to seize control of the Serie A summit. Massimiliano Allegri’s side can take advantage of Inter’s pursuit of Supercoppa Italiana glory in Saudi Arabia to overturn a two-point deficit, at least temporarily.

Star forward Dusan Vlahovic returned to form just in time to bolster Bianconeri’s Scudetto pursuit, notching a brace to inspire Juventus to a 3-0 demolition of Sassuolo last weekend. The Serbian goal-getter also netted a stoppage-time header in Juve’s 2-1 comeback at Salernitana on their most recent Serie A travel.

Match Preview

Lecce

Despite Lecce’s long-standing struggles, it’s hard to write them off just yet. D’Aversa’s men are not only unbeaten in their last four home league outings (W1, D3) but have held visitors starting this round seventh or better winless in all three matches in 2023/24 (W1, D2). .............

Juventus

The abovementioned triumph against Sassuolo extended the visitors’ winning streak in all competitions to six matches. More importantly, Allegri’s troops have rediscovered their scoring touch, bagging an eye-catching 15 goals across their last four games. That’s more than they had accumulated across their 12 previous outings combined.

Despite their frontline’s resurgence, Juventus have not let complacency spoil their outstanding defensive record. Holding Sassuolo at bay marked their 11th Serie A clean sheet in 2023/24. Defensive resilience has been this team’s most prominent feature under Allegri’s stewardship, with only Inter (10) conceding fewer goals than Juventus (12) this term.

And they’ve performed equally well at home and on the road. Juventus have racked up five wins on their last six Serie A travels (D1), increasing the likelihood of maintaining their dominant run against Lecce.

Team News

.............

As for Juventus, Chiesa and Rabiot are not alone in the treatment room. Mattia De Sciglio and Moise Kean are still nursing injuries, with Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba still out with suspension.

Lecce vs Juventus Potential Lineups

Lecce (4-3-3): Wladimiro Falcone; Valentin Gendrey, Marin Pongracic, Federico Baschirotto, Antonino Gallo; Mohamed Kaba, Ylber Ramadani, Joan Gonzalez; Remi Oudin, Nikola Krstovic, Pontus Almqvist.

Juventus (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Daniele Rugani, Gleison Bremer, Danilo; Andrea Cambiaso, Fabio Miretti, Manuel Locatelli, Weston McKennie, Filip Kostic; Dusan Vlahovic, Kenan Yildiz.

Lecce vs Juventus Prediction

With momentum firmly on their side, Juventus head into proceedings as odds-on favorites to add to their 49-point tally. But this will not be a walk in the park for the Turin heavyweights.

In addition to Lecce’s decent home form, the visitors’ away performances mean this clash should be closely-contested. Juventus’ last five Serie A wins on hostile turf have yielded a single-goal margin.

Based on Lecce’s defensive stubbornness, another narrow Juventus win could be on the cards.

Prediction: Juventus Win

Vlahovic chasing Dybala record, Allegri’s 300th – The most interesting stats before Lecce clash

Juve: Allegri conferma Vlahovic, Chiesa in dubbio - tendenzediviaggio.it

The official Juventus website revealed some of the most intriguing stats and facts leading to tonight’s encounter against Lecce.

The Bianconeri prevailed in the reverse fixture thanks to Arek Milik’s solitary goal. They’ll be hoping to complete the double with a win at the Via del Mare.

In the last 18 meetings against the Giallorossi, the Old Lady only failed to score on a single occasion, the source notes. .............

Dusan Vlahovic has now poached nine league goals. He’s only one strike away from equalling the record of Paulo Dybala who’s the only Juventus player in the last 50 years to register double figures in back-to-back seasons before turning 24.

On a separate note, the Serbian bomber has now scored three direct free-kicks in the last two seasons. He now shares the first spot in the Top Five European leagues with James Ward-Prowse, Vincenzo Grifo and Aarón Martín. .............

Finally, Max Allegri will have the opportunity to register his 300th Serie A win this evening. Only two managers have reached this milestone. They are Giovanni Trapattoni (352) and Nereo Rocco (302).

Official Juventus team to face Lecce

Afbeelding

League leaders Inter Milan are away on Super Cup duty and that means they are not in action this weekend, this presents Juventus the chance to go top with a win at Lecce.

There can be no greater incentive than going top of the standings and you have to believe that Juventus will not squander the opportunity and take full advantage against one of the weaker teams in the league. .............

Juve must avoid complacency and they have to respect Lecce, however, anything less than three points will be a disaster in terms of the title race.

Vlahovic scores twice as Juventus go top of Serie A

Vlahovic esaltato dai giornali: «Insaziabile. La sua firma sul sorpasso all'Inter»

Playing well when everyone expects you to win a game can be tricky, but Juventus delivered under pressure against Lecce tonight.

The Bianconeri had to win the game, knowing it would take them to the top of the Serie A table before Inter Milan plays their outstanding fixture.

Lecce was without a win in four consecutive games, but they are a team that could cause problems for anyone. .............

Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring 14 minutes after the interval after they finally broke down the stubborn Lecce defence.

Nine minutes later, he doubled his lead thanks to some fine work from the wing again.

Juve continued to dominate the game at this stage, with Lecce struggling to get back into the fixture.

They got the occasional chance to make the result better, but Juve was solid at the back before Gleison Bremer scored a third to get the Bianconeri’s noses in front in the race for the title with Inter Milan.

Juventus Player Ratings vs Lecce: Red-Hot Vlahovic Runs the Show

Lecce 0-3 Juventus: Dusan Vlahovic double helps Juve move top of Serie A - Eurosport

Juventus delivered a scintillating second-half performance to deepen Lecce’s crisis with an overwhelming 3-0 win at Stadio Via del Mare. After a scoreless halftime score, Massimiliano Allegri’s side continued their free-scoring form with a breathtaking second-half display. .............

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5

Lecce’s uneventful showing made the Polish goalkeeper’s life easy, but he still had to pull off three saves to register his 12th Serie A clean sheet of the season.

Gleison Bremer – 7.5

Not only did he score his second league goal in 2023/24, but his defensive contribution was also immense, as he kept Nikola Krstovic in his back pocket all night.

Danilo – 7

You’d expect nothing less from the Juventus captain. It was another day in the office for the reliable defender who had a field day.

Federico Gatti – 7

Playing alongside the Brazilians alleviated pressure on the Italian youngster as he had a lot more freedom to move the ball around from the back.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5

Despite playing on the right side, the left-footed full-back showcased his burgeoning talent on several occasions, using his blistering pace and quick feet to get rid of his markers.

Weston McKennie – 7 .............

Manuel Locatelli – 6.5 .............

Fabio Miretti – 6 .............

Filip Kostic – 6.5 .............

Dusan Vlahovic – 8

His deadlock-breaking strike could be considered a fortunate piece of art, though he displayed his ‘poacher’s instincts’ to make it 2-0, latching onto McKennie’s cross as a true ‘No9.’

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5

Following a couple of promising-looking performances against Frosinone and Salernitana, the prodigious teenager failed to impact proceedings at Via del Mare.

Substitutes

Timothy Weah – 6

Arkadiusz Milik – 5.5

Samuel Iling Junior – 6.5

Alex Sandro – N/A

Juventus Player Ratings vs Lecce: Vlahovic and Bremer Put the Bianconeri on Top

Lecce - Juventus - 0:3. Italian Championship, 21st round. Match review, statistics (Jan. 21, 2024) — dynamo.kiev.ua

At the Via del Mare Stadium, Juventus ascened the Serie A summit (albeit temporarily) thanks to a solid second-half showing against Lecce. .............

Juventus (3-5-2)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6  .............

Federico Gatti – 6

The former Frosinone man couldn’t always deliver the right pass or cross when on the ball, but looked confident at the back, which is what matters most.

Gleison Bremer – 7.5

Another impeccable outing from the Brazilian defender. He managed to shake off a hesitant start against Nikola Krstovic to prevail in their personal duel with ease. Rounded off a formidable display with a bullet header to make it 3-0.

Danilo – 5.5

The Juventus captain struggled on a few occasions against the pace and trickery of Pontus Almqvist and had to rely on Bremer to bail him out. But still managed to regain his composure in the second half.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5

Another convincing showing from the versatile Italian who started on the right flank but was often found in the middle of the park. Picked up Vlahovic with a clever assist on the Juventus opener, displaying quick thinking and sublime execution.

Weston McKennie – 6.5  .............

Manuel Locatelli – 7  .............

Fabio Miretti – 5  .............

Filip Kostic – 6.5  .............

Kenan Yildiz – 6.5

As always, the teenager produced some flashes of brilliance that captivated the crowd. Brought down McKennie’s long ball expertly, which culminated in the Juventus opening goal.

Dusan Vlahovic – 7.5

The former Fiorentina bomber confirmed his good form with his second brace in five days. While his touch wasn’t the cleanest on the opener, it crept into Wladimiro Falcone’s corner. On the second goal, McKennie’s header was going in regardless, but his long leg allowed him to claim it just over line.

Substitutes

Timothy Weah – 6  .............

Samuel Iling-Junior – 6

The Englishman provided the assist for Bremer on the third Juventus goal with a wonderful cross from the free-kick.

Arkadiusz Milik – N/A

Alex Sandro – N/A

Vlahovic insists Juventus taking one game at a time after beating Lecce

Lecce-Juventus 0-3: Vlahovic e Bremer firmano il sorpasso all'Inter!

Juventus hero in their match against Lecce this evening, Dusan Vlahovic, does not want to get carried away with their performance in the game and insists they are taking the season game by game.

DV9 scored twice as Juve defeated Lecce 3-0 to go top of the Serie A table.

Inter Milan will not play this weekend because of their commitments in the Super Cup, which means Juve could be top by the time both title contenders meet at the start of next month. .............

Asked if Juventus is a better team now, Vlahovic said: “Yes, but we don’t think about it, we go match by match, the next match is against Empoli, so we think about Empoli and after Empoli we will think about Inter. We go step by step, match by match, which for us is critical”. .............

Juventus 3 - Lecce 0: Initial reaction and random observations

Guess who’s in first place for more than just a couple of hours?

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-LECCE-JUVENTUS

Max Allegri tried to warn you all. He tried to warn you that Lecce, no matter their overall position in the league table, were going to be a tough go of it on their home turf. They proved it during the first half of the 2023-24 season and they were going to be no different this time around, according to the veteran Juventus manager.

And for the opening 45 minutes on Sunday night, that warning was very much being felt. .............

Vlahovic scored his second brace in less than a week, propelling Juve from the first-half doldrums to a second-half performance that looked a lot like what his team has been doing a lot in 2024. The end result, with a Bremer-themed cherry on top, was a 3-0 win and three points that sent Juventus to the top of the Serie A table with Inter off for the weekend and in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa. It also extended what has been an absolutely stunning start to the new year when it comes to Juventus’ goal scoring total mainly because they weren’t winning games like this all too often through the first half of the season. They’ve now scored 18 goals in their last five games and pushing for a second and third goal in games with the kind of ferocity so many supporters have been waiting for.

Not only are Juve now in first, but this win means they’re now a whopping 19 points ahead of Atalanta in fifth place, albeit with the latter having a game in hand. .............

Juve have now won won five straight league games and seven in a row in all competitions. It’s the second time this season they’ve put a winning streak of at least five games together, the first getting underway a couple of weeks after they suffered their lone loss of the season in late-September. .............

Once Vlahovic got the ball rolling and scored a volley in the same kind of fashion that Angel Di Maria did a season ago — you know, where it’s not struck all that well but it proves to be incredibly effective — to open the scoring. The lead was doubled less than 10 minutes later, although Weston McKennie will surely have something to say about who really deserved the goal. (And I hope he reminds Vlahovic of it!)

The second-half brace were Vlahovic’s fifth and sixth goals in his last five Serie A appearances.

Not only have Juve waken up offensively, but Vlahovic has done the same just as those who were starting to wonder about where he fit into the club’s future again. .............

Allegri knew of the dangers of playing at Lecce on their home turf — only Napoli and Torino had won at the Via del Mare this season — and his team responded in a way that only seemed to confirm that they are going to be serious players in the Scudetto chase. I mean, they are in first place as we head into the final weekend of January after all.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • This was Allegri’s 300th win in Serie A. The final score was 3-0. The only thing more appropriate would have been corto muso with an 88th-minute winner from a defender.
  • But it is nice to see Max adding lungo muso to his corto muso bag of tricks.
  • Allegri wanted a clean sheet away from home, and he got it. That’s more like it from the defense. It’s always good when Wojciech Szczesny’s final save total involves nothing that was all that difficult to try and stop. .............
  • Speaking of very nice assists: The free kick from Samuel Iling-Junior on Bremer’s goal was pretty nice, too. Same goes for Andrea Cambiaso playing the ball across the face of goal on Juventus’ opener.
  • Something else that was really nice: the entire counterattack on Juve’s first goal. The ability to break that quick, for Kenan Yildiz to bring the ball down the way he did and create the initial shot and then for Cambiaso to jump on the rebound that quickly. It was all just so good and had the Lecce defense just so incredibly stretched.
  • I know I’ve said it a lot lately, but Cambiaso just continues to do stuff that helps Juventus win games. Some games might be better than others, but he is just making important plays and passes at important times, the latest being his assist to Vlahovic on the opener.
  • Who led Juventus in clearances? Bremer.
  • Who led Juventus in blocked shots? Bremer.
  • Who led Juventus in interceptions? Bremer.
  • Who led Juventus in tackles? Br ... nah, just kidding. It was Danilo.
  • But that doesn’t take away from the game Bremer had defensively. And his goal, the dude GOT UP on that goal. Just another night of Bremer being freakin’ awesome.  .............

Lecce-Juventus 0-3: ECCO IL PRIMO POSTO! Vlahovic più Bremer, Allegri gode | ilbianconero.com

  • I, personally, like when Juventus is in first place. Especially when it’s ahead of Inter. By the next time Inter plays a league game, Juve could be four points ahead and it’s not like Fiorentina are an easy out these days. Things are going to be very, very interesting the next few weeks, my friends. I hope you’re ready for it all.

Journalist compares this Juventus team to the one of nine years ago

Lecce - Juventus 0-3 nelle foto di Vito Massagli

Nine years ago, Juventus had one of their best campaigns in the 2014/2015 season as they won the league and reached the final of the Champions League.

It was one of their best campaigns under Max Allegri, and Alessandro Santarelli believes the current side reminds him of the team from that year.

The journalist made the comparison after Juventus earned a 3-0 win against Lecce last night to move top of the Serie A table. .............

“We still have to keep our feet on the ground, but tonight I’m very happy because I was afraid of this match, above all for the mental health of the team. Now Juventus has taken the next step and is winning these races. Now let’s see if the favourite horse needs blinders because, if there is someone next to him, he gets scared. The boys are having a championship and team roadmap similar to the one of nine years”. .............

Journalist explains the state of the Scudetto race after Juve beat Lecce

Let's not exaggerate!' - Dusan Vlahovic plays down Cristiano Ronaldo comparison after scoring second brace in a row for Juventus to send them top of Serie A | Goal.com

Juventus has reclaimed the top spot in Serie A, solidifying their status as one of the premier clubs in European football. The Bianconeri’s impressive form this season, marked by resilience and determination, has proven fruitful, establishing them as the leading side in Italy for the upcoming weeks. .............

Juve will want to continue their winning run and hope Inter falters. After the victory against Lecce, Massimo Pavan explains the state of play and said:

“Juventus gave a good sign of strength in Lecce, I still see Inter as favourites because they still have the Scudetto challenge at home and a perhaps more affordable calendar. Furthermore, before and after the Champions League with Atletico they have two matches that he can play with the reserves, the underdogs remain on his side, but this does not mean that Juve cannot try to undermine him.” .............

Adrien Rabiot set to miss Juventus’ game against Empoli

If you were hoping for Juve’s manbun’d Frenchman to make his return to the starting lineup this weekend, you’ll have to wait a little while longer.

Juventus v US Sassuolo - Serie A TIM

If Juventus were hoping for a fitness boost when it comes to one of their most important players in the game before the big showdown at the San Siro next month, it doesn’t look like that will be happening.

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot will miss his second consecutive game and third in the last four in all competitions when the Serie A-leading Bianconeri host Empoli at the Allianz Stadium this Saturday evening. Rabiot missed last Sunday’s 3-0 win over Lecce with a calf injur, with Juventus not giving any kind of timetable in terms of how long he could be out for or if he’s t risk of missing out on the trip to the San Siro to face Inter in less than two weeks.

Which, considering he’s going to be out on Saturday, either means that he’s a doubt for Inter or Juve are just choosing to play it super safe knowing that Inter’s next up on the schedule after facing Empoli.

Another one of Juve’s injured stars, Federico Chiesa, is considered day-to-day with his ongoing knee troubles that have seen him be in and out of the matchday squad for the last month.

Unless Max Allegri decides to field somebody like Andrea Cambiaso as a makeshift central midfielder, then we’re likely seeing the same midfield that was deployed against Lecce over the weekend, with Fabio Miretti filling in for Rabiot on the left of Manuel Locatelli. For some, that’s something that will lead to bad thoughts and grumpy feelings, while for others seeing Miretti get more playing time is not the worst thing in the world if Rabiot is going to miss more time due to injury. .............

Juventus probable lineup for Empoli – Chiesa unlikely to recover in time

chiesa1.jpg

Juventus manager Max Allegri will likely have to do without Federico Chiesa once again when his team hosts Empoli at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

The Italian striker is struggling with a bone edema that has been derailing his momentum recently.

The 26-year-old remained in Turin last weekend while his teammates traveled to Lecce. So he now appears set to skip yet another Serie A fixture.

Nevertheless, the technical staff will be hoping to have him back at their disposal for the direct Scudetto showdown against Inter on the ensuing weekend (February 4th).

So with Chiesa probably out of action, Allegri will confirm the striking duo of Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz.

In fact, the coach seems to be heading towards maintaining the same starting lineup that toppled Lecce by three goals last Sunday. ............

Juventus Probable XI (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Cambiaso; Vlahovic, Yildiz.

Preview: Juventus vs. Empoli - prediction, team news, lineups

Juventus vs Empoli live score, H2H and lineups | Sofascore

Back at the summit of Serie A, resurgent Juventus aim to move further clear on Saturday evening, when they welcome Empoli to Turin.

While free-scoring Juve have just netted 18 goals in five matches - in their best start to a year since 1932 - their opponents have the league's least potent attack.

Match preview

With their main title rivals away in Saudi Arabia, Juventus seized the chance to go top of Serie A last Sunday, when they met Lecce down at Stadio Via del Mare.

Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic followed up his brilliant brace against Sassuolo - both of which were scored from outside the box - by netting two more in Salento, as Juve ultimately ran out 3-0 winners following a tightly-contested first half.

Seven wins on the spin have put the Bianconeri into the Coppa Italia semi-finals and confirmed them as Inter Milan's chief challengers for the Scudetto, and a potentially decisive Derby d'Italia between the old foes will take place at San Siro next week.

Unbeaten in their last 16 league matches, this is only the 10th top-flight season in which Juventus have exceeded 50 points after 21 games, and they went on to finish first on every previous occasion.

With another success on Saturday, Max Allegri would not only see his side move four points clear of Inter - albeit having played twice more - but will also become the first coach ever to reach the milestone of 1000 points in Serie A.

Indeed, the Tuscan tactician has just surpassed last year's Scudetto-winning coach, Luciano Spalletti (996), which could bode well for Juve's chances this year.

In addition to a 2-0 home defeat in September's reverse fixture, Empoli have lost 12 of their 14 away games against Juventus in Serie A, being beaten 4-0 on their most recent trip to the Allianz Stadium. ............

Team News

New recruit Tiago Djalo, who confirmed his switch from Ligue 1 club Lille earlier this week, is not expected to start for Juventus on Saturday evening, when Max Allegri should name a settled side.

Federico Chiesa is still hampered by a muscular problem, while fellow forward Moise Kean will not be involved as he nears a loan move to Ateltico Madrid.

Adrien Rabiot is set to miss out again, so Fabio Miretti could continue in the hosts' engine room, while the potent partnership of Kenan Yildiz and Dusan Vlahovic may be retained up front.

Vlahovic (five) and Empoli's Szymon Zurkowski (four) are Serie A's top scorers for 2024, and the latter will be one of the first names on Davide Nicola's teamsheet in Turin. ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Yildiz, Vlahovic

Empoli possible starting lineup:
Caprile; Ismajli, Walukiewicz, Luperto; Bereszynski, Zurkowski, Grassi, Fazzini, Cacace; Shpendi, Cambiaghi

We say: Juventus 2-0 Empoli

There is little to suggest that Juventus cannot continue their ruthless run through January, and another win is surely on the cards against Empoli. The Azzurri may have stirred into life under new management, but they are still no match for Juve's in-form front line.

Official Juventus team to face Empoli – Milik starts with Vlahovic

Juventus vs Empoli LINE-UPS: Vlahovic leads, Milik & Locatelli in| All Football

............

Juve have won their last five Serie A games in a row, including two comprehensive 3-0 victories. They are currently unbeaten in their last eight away games, securing six wins and two draws. Their current form is excellent.

In contrast, Empoli won their last match 3-0 against Monza, marking their first victory in the last nine Serie A games. Despite being second from the bottom, they may not be considered a strong team, but that doesn’t mean they will be easy to overcome. Empoli will likely be determined to get something from the game. ............

Juventus drop two points against Empoli after early Milik red card

milik-empoli.jpg

Do you feel the pressure of the title race is getting to Juventus? The Bianconeri dropped two valuable points in front of their fans against Empoli this evening.

Juve had to win the game to go further clear of Inter Milan, who have two games in hand.

However, Arkadiusz Milik earned a straight red card just 18 minutes into the match for a high-foot challenge, handing Juventus a serious disadvantage.

He had been chosen to start ahead of the exciting and enterprising Kenan Yildiz and repaid that decision with a poor foul early in the first half.

From then on, Juve had their work cut out, but Empoli is close to the foot of the league table for a reason, and the Bianconeri still felt confident that they could win the game. ............

Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring after the break, continuing his brilliant scoring run in January, and Juve fans were confident they could win this game. ............

Advantage Inter Milan; this result makes the Derby d’Italia a must-win for Juve.

Juventus 1 - Empoli 1: Initial reaction and random observations

Well that certainly was disappointing for multiple reasons.

Serie A | Juventus 1-1 Empoli: Milik madness stalls Scudetto race - Football Italia

If you were hoping for another one of Juventus’ high-scoring, smile-filled January fixtures on Saturday night, those hopes were dashed less than 20 minutes after kickoff against Empoli.

That is the result of being a man down for over 80 minutes — something that, no matter who you are playing, is always going to put you behind the eight-ball virtually every time. ............

It looked like 10-man Juventus might just be able to escape with all three points and extend their lead atop the Serie A table to plus-4 over Inter thanks to Dusan Vlahovic’s rich vein of form rolling on early in the second half. But, the thing about Empoli is that even though they are sitting in 19th place, they still have a handful of talented players able to do some things. Like Roma-linked youngster Tommaso Baldanzi did with minutes to go, scoring the goal that pulled Empoli level and squashing any Juve hopes of coming out with a win in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium.

It was the kind of night that, both before Arek Milik was sent off for a very red card-worthy tackle and after, was very much of a case of looking far from what we had seen from Juventus during their five-game winning run in which they had been scoring goals galore and leaving very little room for doubt.

But when you go down a man so early and you’re playing against a team fighting for their life (and just hired a manager who is known for keeping teams up one way or another), this is something that is bound to happen. All the stars needed to align for Juventus to drop points for the first time in six weeks — and that’s exactly what happened. We didn’t necessarily expect it to be because Milik went in for a dumb tackle with his studs up so early in the game, but you want to see a spark that lit the fuse that resulted in Juve dropping points and I feel like that’s a pretty good nominee. Because once Milik got the red, that one went right into the pishadoo.

Or just simply Milik being chosen to start over Kenan Yildiz to begin with since that is something that is going to stick in the craw of a whole lot of folks.

First, here’s Max Allegri’s reasoning for going Milik over Yildiz to pair with Vlahovic:

“It is a choice for this match. Yildiz has done well recently, Milik is in good shape, considering how I think the match will pan out, Milik could be more useful from the start. Yildiz could be a useful option off the bench.”

The quibble I have with this is two-fold ...

  1. We’ve seen Juve’s attack take off, in large part, with the explosion of Yildiz in the starting lineup. And a direct result of that is that Vlahovic is looking every bit of the €80 million man that Juve thought they were getting from Fiorentina two years ago.
  2. It’s not like the Vlahovic-Milik combination up front has worked all that well in the past. They certainly don’t compliment each other in the same kind of fashion that Yildiz and Vlahovic do. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Thought from the 16th minute: Oh no, Arek Milik.
  • Thought from the 17th minute: Yeah, that’s a red.
  • Thought from the 18th minute: Upon VAR review, SURE GLAD AREK MILIK STARTED OVER KENAN YILDIZ, EVERYBODY. VERY, VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT. ............
  • Always good to be worrying about one of your most in-form players hobbling around all of about four minutes in. Sure glad Weston McKennie was able to shake that one off, even if it did take a few minutes for him to eventually show no effects of it.
  • One of the first things that popped into my head after Vlahovic scored: That was a a pure poacher’s goal. That’s the kind of stuff that those of us who have been around this club for a few decades would probably say somebody like David Trezeguet used to feast on during his heyday in Turin.
  • That goal made it six goals in January for Vlahovic, who is going into next weekend’s Derby d’Italia in about as good of form as we could have hoped for a few weeks ago. And the good thing is that Allegri won’t be tempted to start Milik at the San Siro, either! (OK, I couldn’t help it. I’m done. It’s out of my system.)
  • Part of me wants to be mad at Manuel Locatelli for not closing down Baldanzi on his goal, but the other part of me just wants to salute the young Italian on a really nice goal. ............
  • Yildiz came on and was dribbling around defenders like it was going out of style. That surely couldn’t have been useful a little earlier in the second half ... or maybe even from the opening kickoff. (OK, NOW IT IS OUT OF MY SYSTEM.)
  • Guessing when Empoli arrived at the Allianz on this night they weren’t expecting to have a 61-39 advantage in possession and outshoot Juventus by a 16-9 margin. Ah, this dumb game. I hope my head doesn’t hurt too much after smashing it against the wall. ............
  • In conclusion, the hot take is that I think Juve will need to play better with 11 men next weekend than they did with 10 men this weekend if they want to have any chance of beating Inter at the San Siro. That is your first and initial hard-hitting analysis of Juve’s nest game. Thank you very much.
